View Full Version : Question about submerged lot boundaries

Okay, so I made a cargo vessel, since it playes an important role in the world of which my own world is based upon. I made an island in CAW and made the edges of it well beneath the surface, so that when I placed the 64x64 lot in EIG, it's edges where also beneath the water. Then I just leveled the whole lot so that it's completely beneath the water. The depth is about half of a one storey column.

Now I've started to wonder if that was a good idea, that whether or not submerged lot edges will cause problems later in game or some odd glitches. I would really hate to delete the lot but i don't want to damage my world, either. I tried googling and searching but didn't end up any wiser. So, could somebody please tell me if I did a really big no-no or if it's safe to leave the lot as it is? Thanks.

If you have World Adventures, I've found it best to make lots you don't want Sims spawning in to be Hidden Tombs. I think the best alternative otherwise is a "No Visitors Allowed". I don't know if that will prevent animal spawns on the lot, though.. haven't tested no visitors with Pets.

So far as I know, it doesn't cause any serious glitches, either way.

Also if I recall right, and you DO want SIms to be able to acces via a subway with late night, you need to leave a little routeable trail, but with subway Sims won't run over across it. Not sure if such a trail is needed for dive wells. (am hoping not)

No, no subway. The Elizabeth Dane is meant to accessed only through teleportation. I could leave the lot as "No visitors allowed" but I was kinda hoping the sims being able to sleep at the deck in a sleeping bag and walk around the ship. I was, too, worried about animals spawning under water or something odd like that. I don't know if that little garden gnome would prevent the animals from appearing.

No Visitors Allowed or Hidden Tomb would still let Sims who can teleport teleport to it, if under the control of the player. Just means no EA/Randomized Sims will wind up there or spend hours doing stompy graphics trying to get to the lot.

Am pretty sure Hidden Tomb won't let anything, even animals to actually spawn there, it's "No Visitors" I'm more unsure about. The gnomes may make it extra sure, although I haven't yet actually tried to see how to change them from "Critters welcome" to "not welcome"

About the subway issue: I have successfully placed subway stations (well the substitute jynx rug) on islands and other spots, not accessible in other ways - and they work fine. Maybe they changed something.

I think that depends upon whether you have your subways NPC routable or not.

I think the hidden tomb would be a good choice and I think I'll use that. When it comes to subways - and even though they might work - it would look kinda odd on board a ship, I think.

I'm still wondering if it's safe/ok to use submerged lot boundaries or not? I do have three beach lots also slighty under water from one side.

It won't break your beach lots, just Sims might go into the water, since it's not recognized as real water. I have sometimes used the invisible/nearly invisible fencing to just keep them out of it.

And yes, subway would look odd if not hidden using moveobjects on in bit of ship =) and I hope I'm not coming off as saying I think that's needed or anything, just that's how I've snuck them into secret locations, and it might be a useful trick for someone who reads this thread at some point.

That or using Jynx's custom rabbithole rug. The downside is they still SOUND like subways, though on a ship could be passed off ans ship-motor-noise maybe.

I think that depends upon whether you have your subways NPC routable or not.

I have no such mods installed. I will check when I am play testing in larger scale. The played sims can at least go to these places without problems.

I think my big fear would be having sims spawn somewhere on this island, then getting stuck and causing lag. You probably should watch for this in testing.

@Ingeli- I thought you meant you had non-playables using the subway autonomously, as that would depend upon whether you had modded the XML. But subways will work on non-accessible islands, just as dive wells do. The point about the routable path is that if you don't have that, your NPCs could get stuck, as High Plains Gamer and bakafox have pointed out.

I do still think it'll be ok from the spawning worry part if the lot is flagged as hidden tomb, (or even no visitors allowed) because AFAIK that means nothing will spawn there or feel a need to go there- at least, not human-Sims, only thing I am unsure of there is whether wild animals will try spawning and get stuck =/

Yes, it'll be okay because in this case there is no terrain exposed above sea level that is not part of the lot. The only problem you may find is horses, as they seem to obey no laws of routing. But they get stuck around lamp posts, rose bushes and motes of dust too, so I don't think it's anything to worry about!
