:new: For all people having issues with getting CAW to run, please download the latest version from EA here. (http://llnw.thesims3.com/content/global/downloads/caw/worldtool.exe) You will notice that the latest version is 1.18.5, for me it is running well and I can export, save, EIG etc. The 1.18.4 patch works for 1.18.5 too, and I have put a compiled exe in the developer's thread (http://www.den.simlogical.com/denforum/index.php?topic=860.0) for those who wish to test it.

It has been discovered that the Sims 3 Create-a-World Tool Beta has many hidden developer tools that are not included in the consumer version.

I have written a tutorial to explain how to patch your copy of CAW to unlock these hidden features.

Downloaded today, CAW lists in its default.ini as being 1.13.7\

However, in tortoise merge leads to patch version error messages:
http://www.modyourpanties.com/hosting/34282_120206102721tortoise%20error.jpg

Am using WinXP, am the administrator of it, so not sure what's happening.

Same things are red to me as to Querin below me's screencap, too.

Hi,

I have a problem with patching CAW with this method (My CAW is version: WBVersion = 1.13.7.014037).

I've saved code with ILSpy without problems, but when I try to apply Simsample patch with TortoiseMerge, I got this:
http://img542.imageshack.us/img542/9997/problem3.jpg
Those red objects in File patch window are causing troubles.
First I've got error mesage that file could not be found. Then the second error message (shown on screenshot).

After clicking all error messages (two for each of red objects), I have a project that cannot be debugged by Microsoft Visual C# 2010 Express.

Am I doing something wrong or is there a problem with my system ?

(Sorry for broken english.)

Hi!

I followed the tut and it's working fine for me!
Ok, I have to get used to this tool, because there are so many new objects and effects and the tools are still a bit unusual, but the Water Plane Tool is great!
Thx for posting.

Ok Armiel may have found problem!

We have to run tortoise as admin. my XP just isn't believing me when I say I am admin.

armiel
6th Feb 2012, 05:43 PM
Thank you, got it installed.

Few notes for others that are planning to do this:
Make sure you're the admin on your PC, AND launch every program by right clicking on the executable, and select run as admin. This will make sure that the programs can write over the necessary files. I learned this the hard way, as I assumed I could, being an admin, just install and it would be done, but no, had to "run as admin" on every program needed for this. So, are notified :)

Then a shock feature. My CAW is now in ENGLISH, lol. Have to learn the locations and tools all over again :) I don't mind it really, but I have absolutely NO IDEA what everything IS :D
The same will probably happen to anyone who are not English (as language). So again, are notified.

Thank you for testing, guys! :)

Ha, of course I don't have my copy of CAW installed to the default location, and so UAC is not interfering. But for those people who do have CAW installed to the default location (Program Files), full administrator access WILL be required, which means running as an administrator, as you have all found out. I'll add that to the tutorial now, thank you for all solving this for me! :)

Armiel- Do not panic, as of course you can choose whether to run the new patched version of CAW, or the original version. The original executable will still be in your native language as you have not changed that at all; all that you have done is to create an additional exe. Test it to see if it works! Then you can just use the modded CAW for when you want something specific (water planes, extra effects etc.,) and the original when you want to work at speed. ;)

Oh cool, it does :)

Will have to plunge myself in to all of this once I have my set out of my hands, I just installed it now to see if I had same issues as Baka.

I'm on 64bit W7, CAW installed to default, if that helps any.

Thanks Armiel, that helps a lot- I've added a note about the language to the tutorial, too.

Thank you everyone for testing, please keep the reports coming! It's good to know what works and what does not, as then I can edit the tutorial to make it easier to understand. :)

I still can't patch/upgrade CAW. Running as administrator or reinstalling CAW hasn't helped a bit. I've even installed it to default location, hoping it will help, but no - still the same errors.

And I wanted to have lighthouse fx in my world... sigh

Ok, well I uninstalled CAW, and tried reinstalling it both first just in a new folder in C drive, then into a folder in My Documents.

Am still unable to get the merge to work, some files remain in red and are 'not found' and I still get patch error messages. So even without it in default, can't get it to work without running as admin =/ Which unfortunately my XP won't let me do, as it says I need a password that I don't know and didn't even think existed. Bleh.

@Querin and Baka- to clarify, if you are using Vista or Win 7 then installing to the default location will mean that you DO need to run as an administrator. Also, your install of CAW must be installed to the same location as The Sims 3 game. So if you have CAW installed in C:\Program Files\ Electronic Arts you must have CAW installed to C:\Program Files\ Electronic Arts as well.

Both of you, try starting completely over again. By this I mean to restore the backup of your Sims 3 CAW folder. Then open ILSpy (run it as an administrator!) and select anything that appears on the list underneath CAW:
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/5/2/8/4/8/MTS_simsample-1271101-Bluefunk_0106-Feb-1218.44.jpg
Right click once they are all selected, and choose 'remove'.

Then, close ILSPy and start the tutorial over again, making sure that you run ILSpy, Tortoise Merge and Visual Studio Express as administrator each time.

Unfortunately I'm running XP, and can't run as admin =/ so guess I am out of luck til desktop comes back from the shop.

(I tried to run as admin, but it demands a password that I don't have/know... I've always just done everything as my own user account on this XP laptop, never have had some seperate admin account, and it doesn't accept me or my password to run as admin >_>)

If you're on XP, Baka, 'run as admin' doesn't apply (as long as you are on an administrator account), as there is no UAC.

Try once more with a fresh start, first removing the entries from ILSpy as in my image.

Can I please translate your tutorial into Spanish and use your pics for a Spanish speaking CAW forum?

Thanks for trying to help me Simsample, but it's still not working.

Just to be clear: I'm running Win7 64-bit as administrator and, just to be on a safe side, each progam I 'run as administrator'.

Both CAW, Sims 3 and Late Night are on the same partition (not system partition).

I've tried every solution from this thread ans still have the same errors. I'm starting to think that some libraries in my system are preventing ILSpy from extracting source code properly.

Nope, still getting the 'file not found' and 'patch numbers different' error messages with tortoise merge and then cannot open/work with the C#2010

Have reinstalled/unistalled CAW several times and deleted all those things from the ILSpy twice.

I had been using the framework and the link for CAW CC, but I am thinking those must have been destroyed when I uninstalled everything with CAW including all user data? Or might something about how I'd had the virtual link in be causing this problem?

Nilxis- I'm glad you got it working, well done!

Yes, I would be glad for you to translate it, although I have a few things to request:
-Please remember that this tutorial is likely to be updated (as I am making adjustments as people test and find glitches in my explanations), so be prepared to update your Spanish version too.
-Please don't re-host the patch- give people the link to my download. That way, I can update it should the need arise.
-Please make it clear that this patch is for the current version of CAW, and that it will likely not work should EA update.
-Please make it clear that people should backup their files first!
-Please ask your readers to post problems/ glitches to this forum (they can use Google translate) as this will help me to improve the tutorial.
-Please make it clear that all credit is due to atavera, who devised the patch and discovered the hidden features in the first place. All I did was to write atavera's instructions into a tutorial.
-And lastly, please send me a link, and that way I can link to it in my tutorial for our Spanish speaking friends to see. :)

Bakafox- I can't see that this is a problem with XP, so there must be some way that your install is varying from mine. Could you give me the following information please?
-Game install location
-CAW install location
-Game version for each EP and SP that you have installed
Not sure how much of this is relevant, but it will help me to gain a better understanding, anyway!

Querin- Sorry, missed your reply! Could you supply the same info as I asked Baka for too please?

Querin- Is your version of CAW running without glitches? I have a feeling that your problem may be related to a version mismatch- according to what we know, it seems that if you are only running Late Night, you should not be able to run a newer version of CAW than 1.11.9.
Could you please confirm for me what your compatibility versions are in your basegame and LN Default.ini files, as outlined here?
http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?p=3661479&posted=1#post3661479
If I'm guessing right then it means that this may not work for your game.

Ok also just so it's down too, the thing that happens if I try the debug in the C#:
"There were build errors, would you like to continue and run the last successful build?"

If I click 'yes', then get:
http://www.modyourpanties.com/hosting/34290_120206162451debug%20errors.jpg

Game Install:
C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 (all expansions are same program files\electronic arts\epname)
CAW install is
C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 Create A World Tool

Versions (got these from the default.INI files, let me know if this is wrong place to get them):
TS3 GameVersion = 1.29.55.014001
WA = GameVersion = 2.0.86.002017
AMB = GameVersion = 4.0.87.006001
LN = GameVersion = 6.0.81.009001
GEN = GameVersion = 8.0.152.011017
PETS Ltd = GameVersion = 10.0.96.013017

And just in case:
HEL Stuff Pack = GameVersion = 3.0.38.004017
Outdoor Living SP = GameVersion = 7.0.55.010017

CAW is running fine for me though I haven't set back up CC framework stuff so am not seeing any of that.

simsample
6th Feb 2012, 09:45 PM
Baka- as with Querin, I suspect a version problem. Your WA, Ambitions and Late Night games are unpatched, as are HELS and OLS.
http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Patch_Table
For the game (and choosing mods) this is irrelevant as the game runs from the basegame executable, so the only thing that matters is the basegame version. However, we have found that people are having problems such as EIG crashes and general instability which is improved by having all EPs/SPs patched.

If you have time, could you possibly test that theory for me? You would need to backup ALL of your CAW and Sims 3 userdata (copy Documents\ Electronic Arts\ The Sims 3 and Documents\ Electronic Arts\ The Sims 3 Create A World Tool to a safe place) and then download and install the latest patches for each of those EPs.
http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:TS3_Patching:Before_You_Begin
That should guide you thorough it, the patches are linked here:
http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Patch_Table
For the ones ending in 7, you need the digital download patch.

More detail about the problems people sometimes see with a version mismatch here:
http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=441595
And here:
http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?p=3661479

It seems likely that your CAW version effectively does not match the version that atavera's patch is intended for.

Querin
6th Feb 2012, 09:45 PM
As strange as it sounds, this version of CAW runs perfectly with my Sims. Furthermore - it's the only version that shows 'Effects' in metadate window.

My version numbers are taken from Default.ini files.

Edit: I have the same C# error as Bakafox.

simsample
6th Feb 2012, 09:49 PM
Querin- what does the 'WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion' say in your basegame and LN? I'm betting that they do not match, which may be why this is failing for you. Not sure what you mean by the effects in metadata?

Querin
6th Feb 2012, 10:01 PM
Base game, taken from Default.ini :

GameVersion = 1.29.55.014002
CompatVersion = 14
WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = 11

LN:

GameVersion = 6.5.1.011031
CompatVersion = 11
WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = 8

CAW:

GameVersion = 1.13.7.014037
CompatVersion = 14
WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = 11

I don't know how can I further update LN.

And by 'Effects' in metadate I mean :
http://img839.imageshack.us/img839/1870/effectsy.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/839/effectsy.jpg/)

With older CAW versions 'Efekty' doesn't have '+' next to them and I can't use them.

simsample
6th Feb 2012, 10:34 PM
Base game, taken from Default.ini :

GameVersion = 1.29.55.014002
CompatVersion = 14
WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = 11

LN:

GameVersion = 6.5.1.011031
CompatVersion = :here: 11
WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = :here: 8

CAW:

GameVersion = 1.13.7.014037
CompatVersion = 14
WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = 11

I don't know how can I further update LN.
The figures I've highlighted with an arrow are the relevant ones- your LN version does not match the CAW and Basegame version. So it could be why the patch is failing.

You cannot update LN any further- the limitation is that EA have not released versions of CAW for people who do not have all of the latest EPs.

To try to get around this you could edit the LN default.ini manually, so that the versions read as follows:
CompatVersion = 14
WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = 11
Not sure if that would work, but it's worth a try since some people have had success with making CAW work that way. Of course I could be completely wrong, but it's the only anomaly I can see between your game and mine, so it's worth a try!

I'm running into the same errors as mentioned earlier. I went through and found all my version numbers and compat numbers. Seems I have been running my CAW with completely mismatched version numbers. I figured it was running slow and being stupid was because of my computer, which only has 1GB of RAM. It might have been version mismatch instead. You learn so much by reading. I am currently going through patching all the games I have. I'm only missing Pets, Town Life, and Master Suite. I'll post my findings when I have completed the process

Ok I got the latest patches for all the EP's and my two SP's

However, I still do not have matching World Tool Compatability versions across the board, and thus still get the same errors. But there are no more patches/updates....

Basegame: GameVersion = 1.29.55.014001
CompatVersion = 14
WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = 11

AMB: GameVersion = 4.10.1.011031
CompatVersion = 11

GEN: GameVersion = 8.0.152.011017
CompatVersion = 11
WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = 8

LN: GameVersion = 6.5.1.011031
CompatVersion = 11
WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = 8

PETS: GameVersion = 10.0.96.013017
CompatVersion = 13
WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = 10

WA: GameVersion = 2.17.2.011037
CompatVersion = 11
WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = 8

HEL: GameVersion = 3.13.1.011037
CompatVersion = 11
WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = 8

OL: GameVersion = 7.3.2.011037
CompatVersion = 11
WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = 8

I can't find any newer patches listed at http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Patch_Table and am at this point even more confused than ever- am I overlooking something else now?

Edit:
Tried renaming/editing the .INI files for everything. Didn't work, still several files red and can't merge/compile/whatnot.

Baka , your numbers are the top ones while mine are the bottom ones . You might be a little over updated or I 'm really out of date. I was able to get the special caw patch to work without a single problem. My computers is running a 64 bit version of windows 7.

armiel
7th Feb 2012, 07:03 PM
I can poke here as much, as I can say I have same patch versions as Baka - so I'm suggesting that on her case it might be something else than a patching issue. Ouer seems to have few EP's that are not patched to latest that they have, but he has the "super" caw working.

bakafox
7th Feb 2012, 07:03 PM
It's really really looking like the patches for EP's aren't the problem then- unless there IS some middle ground in patching that needs to be reached, not the latest... all in all though I'd guess that if other people are making it run without everything at same compatibility, that isn't the problem at all.

Has anyone gotten it working with something other than Win7 64bit as OS?

I couldn't get it to work on Vista, 32 bit either. Might be because I do not have Pets but who knows. Guess I'll stick to the other methods of getting water planes and objects from other worlds. Maybe when I get my new laptop I can try again. Anyways, thanks for the tutorial. I'll be back eventually.

Thank you all for the information!

Can I please ask you all a favour, in order to make it easier for atavera to collect information, could you please list the following information (I would like this from people who can make this work as well as from those who cannot make it work, for comparison). :)

Eps and Sps installed, with the SKUversions and regions. You can copy this figure from the game install default.ini for each EP/SP- for example C:\Program Files(x86) \Electronic Arts \The Sims 3 \Game \Bin\ Defailt.ini.
So for me, this is:
Basegame: GameVersion = 1.29.55.014002
WA: GameVersion = 2.17.2.011032
HELS: GameVersion = 3.13.1.011031
Amb: GameVersion = 4.10.1.011031
FLS: GameVersion = 5.8.1.011031
LN: GameVersion = 6.5.1.011031
OLS: GameVersion = 7.3.2.011031
Gen: GameVersion = 8.0.152.011001
TLS: GameVersion = 9.0.73.012001
Pets: GameVersion = 10.0.96.013001
MSS: GameVersion = 11.0.84.014001

CAW SKUVersion. You can copy this from the Default.ini in the CAW Game install files- for example, C:\Program Files(x86) \Electronic Arts \The Sims 3 Create a World Tool\ Default.ini.
So for me, this is:
CAW: GameVersion = 1.13.7.014037

CAW version from About>Version in CAW.
So for me, this is:
Version: 0.430.0.696

Operating System (you can get this info from right clicking on 'Computer' or 'My Computer' and selecting 'Properties'):
So for me, this is:
Windows 7 Ultimate, 64bit. Service Pack 1.

Also (for those people who cannot make this patch work), it may be useful if you could attach a screenshot of the error you are getting to the post.

Please also state whether the patch does or does not work for you! Thank you Inge!

I know many of you have posted all of this information before, but if you could please collate it onto one post it would be a lot easier to interpret. If you think the post looks too long, you can hide the information inside an infobutton:
Enclose the text in {infobutton]Infobutton tags{/infobutton}- replace the { symbols for [] brackets.

Thank you all in advance, and thanks for testing!

I have the Spanish tutorial written, you can find it here: http://createaworld.foroactivo.net/t285-herramientas-ocultas-modificar-el-caw-para-que-aparezcan

Thank you for all :)

Thank you very much, Nilxis!

I will add a link in the first post, and in the Wiki article. Much appreciated! :)

Can I just suggest something - if people would include in their stats whether they are one of the people for whom it is working, or is not working, ( ie - "works with these stats" or "doesn't work with these stats") would save going back up the thread to see whether they said so in another post.

The modification process for CAW is NOT working for me.

Here's everything in the one post:

Microsoft Windows XP Professional, ver 2002, service pack 3

CAW:
GameVersion = 1.13.7.014037
CompatVersion = 14
WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = 11

Basegame: GameVersion = 1.29.55.014001
CompatVersion = 14

OL: GameVersion = 7.3.2.011037

The screenshot of my error from TortoiseMerge- this error with diff file names comes up, they are all files that are in red behind my box- Querin's screenshot shows the same files as faulty:
http://www.modyourpanties.com/hosting/34282_120206102721tortoise%20error.jpg

The error that this leads to when trying to debug with C#
http://www.modyourpanties.com/hosting/34290_120206162451debug%20errors.jpg

Because it does not even debug, I have not actually tried opening CAW with it actually, since I would assume that the programs saying nothing could be changed/merged/debugged/patched would make that kind of pointless...

Alrighty. Here goes.

This did not work for this user. I even went to the patches information on the wiki. As all I could find was the Super Patcher and the other one listed above it, I downloaded the Super Patcher and applied that to my game. It told me I was already patched to that for the Base Game but I went ahead and did it anyway. From what I have read throughout this thread, patch versions may not be the issue. Either way, I could not find any other patches for the individual SPs and EPs as it seems they are not independent anymore, at least from what I understand. Here is all my information. Error Screen caps are attached below. Simsample, please check your PMs. Thanks

It looks like ILSpy is decompiling slightly different for a few of you. Until we know why, here is a temporary fix that you can try.

- Select CAW in ILSpy and Save Code again to a new folder
- Start TortoiseMerge
- Apply ilspy_difference.patch (from the attached zip file) as a unified diff to your project folder
- Now apply the original patch linked from the tutorial and continue normally

I'll give it a shot and post my findings here when done.

*EDIT*

I tried the temporary fix offered by Atavera. SUCCESS!! It worked! After using the difference patch, I no longer had the red files in TortoiseMerge when applying the original patch linked in the tutorial. The rest of the tutorial went through without a hitch. I got all the features in the Super CAW. Time to go play with my new toy.

Thanks to Simsample, Atavera, and all the others out there who have furthered the understanding of CAW. Now I can put in water planes and other effects much quicker!

Thanks bradyseitz, Querin for confirming it for me. And huge thanks to bakafox for being a guinea pig during the testing :)

I'm still not sure why some setups decompile caw slightly differently. It may help to know which versions of the .NET framework are installed on the ones that need the second patch. I cannot get the same decompile results on my machine, so I'm stumped. If someone that has this problem is willing to try the beta version of ILSpy to see if it does the same thing for them, that could be helpful.

http://build.sharpdevelop.net/BuildArtefacts/#ILSpyMaster
ILSpy_Master_2.0.0.1546_Binaries.zip

I tried the beta and got the same results, but it is possible that they fixed something to make it more consistent.

simsample

I think those are required, so unless there is an option to deselect them you're out of luck. The download is only 143MB though; the 2.2GB is the disc space required.

So I've installed this without a hitch, although CAW still eats all my prepopulated worlds. What I'm curious about is if we can do something similar with the EIG features that must surely be hiding there - in particular, I'm convinced there is a tool in there for adding families.

Huge props to all involved in this discovery.

MoonsAreBlue

I'm using the new CAW right now, and so far I've had no problems and installation was a breeze. However, when you drag out the size of the lot, there is no 30x30 (as in lot size) in the lower right corner. It has moved to the lower left hand side and it says "The Lot Tool is ac..." and then "x:90.13 y:15.51 z:..." I'm assuming the first quotation says "The Lot Tool is active" and the second quotation is giving the lot coordinates and size, but since it cuts off with the "..." there is no way for me to tell the lot size as I am dragging it out. Does anyone have a clue how to extend the information? Or is this only happening to me? I'm finding it impossible to place the correct lot sizes that I need.

Thanks for your time! (This tool is great!)

Edit: Here's a picture of what I'm talking about.

I have to admit I didn't open the super CAW before my last post. :/

The situation is the same for me too, so I suppose I need to repatch. I'm sorry if this has been answered already, but are there any spacial steps for deleting the older patched supercaw? Can it be just ripped off the install locations, or how? :)

And also, to add to my horror earlier about the game language changing in caw interface - the supercaw also makes it's own userfiles? I was looking for my worlds today, and could not find them, until I realized it had made English CAW folder under my documents. Opened my world from there and went to build. :)
If it doesn't do that for the people whose caw is already in english, but does it for all the non-english caw users, it might be worth to mention in the tut too :)

When re-patching, if you are inclined to use the same subfolder(for example I'm using C:\TS3\CAW\src where C:\TS3\CAW is my CAW installation folder) for your ILSpy extraction, it is probably good practise to delete everything in your supercaw folder before re-extracting and re-patching. The actual WorldBuilderCS.exe will get overwritten when you re-compile so you don't have to worry about deleting the olde one(but there is no harm in it).

As far as the language thing goes, I'm a bit confused. I sort of assumed if you decompiled your own CAW with another language, that would be preserved when you recompiled. The patch doesn't do any locale specific changes to force you into English mode, but it is possible ILSpy isn't taking that into account when exporting localised resources. I can look into this as I imagine it must be bad trying to use a familiar tool in an unfamiliar language. I can try changing my windoze language to achieve those outcomes for testing :)

Thanks all for testing and for the detailed reports of the issues.

Thank you all for your feedback and testing! I updated the tutorial with atavera's new patch, so please go there for the download link. :)

kiwi_tea- you saw the additional link in the first post to the packaging routines?

armiel- I added a note about the English folders to the tutorial too. :)

Jawusa- Please don't share the executable! Patching to fix your own exe is easy enough. The reason that we chose to share a patch rather than to share a modified executable is one of legality- we cannot share EA executables as that amounts to piracy. Please remove that tutorial and instead translate my tutorial directly if you wish to have a German version. Please also follow my instructions to Nilixis here:
http://www.modthesims.info/showpost.php?p=3774733&postcount=18
I would prefer that you link to our files rather than to re-host them, as this allows us to update the patch as needed (as has already been necessary). Thank you, I would be very glad to see a German version, but we must be careful not to violate EA copyright.

atavera- Thanks for all your work on this, as you can see there are many people here who are very thankful for this! :)

I'm not sure if I brought this up already, and there is so many posts in this thread already that I'm not sure if i could spot the reply even if it existed... sorry

So, in supercaw, you -should-have these asterixes in front of any debug name, like this picture in your tutorial:
http://simswiki.info/images/thumb/2/2a/CAW_Extra_35.jpg/200px-CAW_Extra_35.jpg

Mine doesn't... *tiny look under brows* So, I'll have no idea what are debug objects and what not, except for the obvious ones like "sim"

I'm sorry to have so many weird issues with this, lol, I suppose this too may be related to the language locale.

I too wanna thank both Atavera for making the discovery, research and tools/ways, and simsample for making the tut and keeping an eye on this thread and helping us troubled ones :D

I have noticed that setting worlds to "Downtown" does not seem to designate them as "Downtown" worlds. Anyone else?

MoonsAreBlue
15th Feb 2012, 01:01 AM
I've noticed that when I go to paint the terrain, the red and yellow routable/non-routable terrain paint does not go away. I had to switch my world to the old CAW to be able to see where I was painting when I was painting a lake surrounded by mountain (since around it, the area is red sims non-routable). Not sure if that makes a whole lot of sense, but basically when using the terrain paint, the routable terrain paint also shows.

armiel
15th Feb 2012, 04:15 AM
MoonsAreBlue - have you set routing paint visibility to zero under the paints selection? If that setting is left to full visibility, at least the unroutable areas that are too steep show as red when using terrainpaints, so it probably also shows routing paints.

simsample
15th Feb 2012, 06:58 PM
armiel- Oh no! That will make it difficult to tell which objects are safe to use. Just to clarify, your modified CAW is in English but your regular CAW is in Finnish?

kiwi_tea- yes, it's working fine for me:
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/5/2/8/4/8/MTS_simsample-1273350-Bluefunk_0114-Feb-1223.27.jpg
Are you not seeing that byte 06 modified?

MoonsAreBlue- Further to what armiel says, I think it's called 'routing opacity' and the slider is on the terrain paint tab. That occurs in the unmodded CAW also.

armiel
15th Feb 2012, 07:16 PM

I noticed something with the Super CAW a while back and just decided to post about it. I was happily sculpting and painting with no problems. It was when I was going to add some trees and plants when I noticed "Trees" was not listed in the Metadata. I see from simsample's tut that "Trees" weren't listed their either. I know the trees and plants also show up in the "Game Objects" section as well. It was easier for me to find the trees and plants in the other section. I never remember their names. Am I just going to have to filter for trees, plants, or their names? It's not a huge deal as I seem to favor the Black Gum Tree and some of the other plants. I also noticed the lot size not showing but I see that has been fixed. Have to try the new patch my next day off, which isn't until Tuesday. I attached a couple pics. The first is with the Regular CAW and the second is with the Super CAW. Also, I had to use the special patch on page 3, post 54 to get mine working as mine decided to be "special."

In future, when you want to run your patched version of the CAW tool, you should go to [Install Location]\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 Create a World Tool and run WorldBuilderCS.exe.
You may want to create a shortcut to that executable on your desktop or start menu, so that you don't have to keep browsing to find it.
I hope that helps!

Hey simsample - just thought I'd drop in and say it worked for me. ( :D :D :D )

Anyway, I'm running windows XP and was having literally, word for word, the exact same errors as bakafox was. However, I realised the silly error I was making and the rest of the installation was a cakewalk.

I had to use the temporary fix provided by atavera. However, when I got to the stage of putting the fix over the patch, I forgot to select 'patch all' and then 'save' on the fix and naturally, I was having the same error as before.

Sorry for being so inarticulate, it's late where I live, hehe.

Anyway, thanks a bunch to everybody involved in this upgrade! I'm off to bed now and will have some new fun thing to waste my time on tomorrow. ;)

I am getting the exact same errors as bradyseitz on Page 2 and I tried atavera's fix on Page 3 but I still get the same, exact errors. I'm running CAW Version 1.13.7 because I have every Sims 3 game up to and including Master Suite Stuff on Windows 7, Ultimate. I am also running this on an Admin Account and right clicking and choosing the Run as Admin option before launching any of these programs. I looked at the default.ini in...

C://Program Files/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3 Create A World Tool/Default.ini

It saids

[Version]
GameVersion = 1.13.7.014037
CompatVersion = 14

This does not match the default.ini in C://Program Files/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3 Master Suite Stuff/Game/Bin/default.ini

[Version]
GameVersion = 11.0.84.014001
CompatVersion = 14

I then looked at the default.ini in C://Program Files/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Game/Bin/Default.ini even though I'm not sure if I needed to and it saids

[Version]
GameVersion = 1.29.55.014017
CompatVersion = 14
WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = 11

I also looked into all my other games default.ini

When I open CAW to look at the version of CAW it saids

The Sims 3 Create a World Tool – Beta

Version: 0.430.0.696

So I don't know what is wrong, I've removed and reinstalled CAW several times but I still get the same errors as bradyseitz on Page 2 any help would be apperciated.This is a lot of info for me to take in so I may of missed something I apologize for that or if I'm asking the same questions that were asked earlier on in the post.

for some reason when i go to download the visual C# 2010 Express it goes to 404 - File or directory not found, so after i'd fixed the problems of the tortoisemerge file problem now this happens :cry:

Illyianna
17th Feb 2012, 03:36 PM
So after reinstalling CAW and opening it I checked the default.ini in CAW, The Sims 3 base game and the most recent Stuff Pack Master Suite Stuff all are reading

GameVersion = 1.13.7.014037
CompatVersion = 14
WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = 11

So they all match, so I ran the ILSpye.exe and saved the info required then launched the tortsiemerge.exe and tried to patch everything and it saids http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q75/Sarrah_Album/Img1.jpg Then I have to click cancel and I get http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q75/Sarrah_Album/Img3.jpg

So I have to Cancel, so after I restored the CAW folder again and went back into ILSpye.exe and Saved the data to the new Project folder in C://Program Files/Electronic Arts/Sims 3 Create A World Tool/Project and then launched tortsie again and tried to patch with the ilspy_differance.patch and it saids "The System Can not fild the File Specified" C://Program Files/Electronic Arts/ Sims 3 Create A World Tool/lot.cs " The Patch Seems Outdated! The File Line and Patch Line Using WorldbuilderCS;do not match!"

Hope this gives a bit more info about what may be going on.

Illyianna- Could you post a screenshot of the errors, please? Also, just to check- you are applying atavera's extra patch from here:
http://modthesims.info/showpost.php?p=3776797&postcount=54
Before you apply the other patch? Try starting over again, so delete this:
http://modthesims.info/showpost.php?p=3774606&postcount=12
Then redownload the patches and try again. If it doesn't work, I'll probably ask you for some files so that atavera can check this. :)

simsdetoi- Thank you very much, but can I please ask you to NOT re-host the patch? Instead please put the same patch link as in my tutorial, as then if we need to update it we can do so without you having to change yours. Also, please check that you have done everything asked here:
http://modthesims.info/showpost.php?p=3774733&postcount=18
In my reply to Nilixis. It makes things much easier if we can support everyone on this forum, as this patch is still in testing and will need to be updated often. Thanks!

It just keeps not finding any of the files it needs as if it can't see the required files in the subfolders of the Project folder. I'm just not going to bother with it, I've been at it all day, done it so many times I have the Tutorial memorized. I used the patch from here http://modthesims.info/showpost.php...97&postcount=54 and I did the steps your posted here http://modthesims.info/showpost.php...06&postcount=12 and still nothing. I checked my versions over and over and the two error boxes you see above just come up again and again listing seperate files.

It's as if tortsiemerge.exe does not reconize any of the files placed in the Project folder by ILSpye.exe and then because it doesn't see the files when I try to patch it with tortsiemerge.exe it gives errors like you see above, however when I go into the Project folder and it's subfolders I can see all the files it's claiming it can not find, so I have no idea how to make it realize the files it needs an is giving errors about are right there. However thankyou for your quick reply and for trying to help me, I'll just stick with CAW as it is for now, I don't use it that much anyway.

Some minutes ago I was trying to export a world which has been modified with the new CAW tools, but everytime I try to export it, it says: Exporting world failed!
But if I export a world that has not been opened and edited with the new tools, CAW exports it succesfully.
Do any of you know why does this happen?

simsample
17th Feb 2012, 09:02 PM
rulespotter- Ah, that would be a problem if you have your firewall blocking it! :lol:

Illyianna- If you could post a screenshot of the errors you are getting so that we can see exactly what is happening, it would be useful. I'm sure there's a way we can get this working for you, don't give up!

Nilxis- Are you trying to export the world in the same version of CAW as you edited in? For example, can you edit the world and export it in SuperCAW?

armiel
17th Feb 2012, 09:22 PM
I have had no issue exporting a world modified with supercaw (added water planes, rest is done in normal caw). I have not however tested exporting FROM supercaw.

Nilxis
17th Feb 2012, 09:44 PM
I tried to export the world with normal CAW and with Supercaw, both versions gave me error. I created a new world with Supercaw, added a pond, and tried to export. It exported successfully, so maybe the problem was coming from the world itself. But I don't mind it because I wasn't going to finish that world.

Anyway, thanks Simsample and Armiel for answering ;)

armiel: You don't see asterisks because EA didn't localise debug object strings in your language. So if you see something that isn't translated then it is not a good idea to use it. BTW a neat trick that works even in original CAW is to pass the command line "-l:fi-FI" where fi-FI is Finnish locale code(that is how I tried it). You could do the same with en-US and see the asterisks(although then object names would all be English).

bradyseitz: The original list of objects and plants were completely predefined and sorted that way. When I changed it to bring all objects in, I didn't have any sorting data. There is probably a way to get the categories, then I could group everything in its own list(even hide debug items), but until I do, there is just the search filter.

Illyianna: A screenshot would help, one where TortoiseMerge asks you for the patch/folder(and what you put for those), then one of the error message that it gives. If it can't find the files, then maybe you are giving it your "CAW" folder instead of your "CAW/Project" folder?

Well I got it all patched and everything worked without a problem so I then opened CAW-Microsoft Visual C#2010 Express (Adminstrator)

I clicked on Debug --> Start Debugging

It begins to launch CAW like it should then I get this error

The Sims 3 Create a World Tool -Beta has experienced a Failure!

Exception information:

Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.

I click OK because that is all I can do and it saids

The Sims 3 Create a World Tool- Beta has failed to shutdown properly. Please end The Sims 3 Create a World Tool-Beta task using the Windows Task Manager.

I know all my default.ini match I checked, I also tried LAA to tell it to run with 2GB and then tried again and same error, any ideas?

Also when I try to launch World BuilderCS.EXE from the Desktop I get the same error but when I try to launch my normal CAW.EXE it opens and runs fine.

Update Feb 18, 2012

I got up this morning and removed everything related to CAW, I then reinstalled CAW and did everything from scratch I tried to do the above steps and still get the error. However once I closed out of Visual 2010 I went and made a shortcut for World BuilderCS.EXE and enabled LAA with it. I then launched it, it launched and has the Pond tool and other extra CAW features. I'm not sure what this means and will mess with it some more today and see how it runs but it seems to be working somewhat. :beer:

What I found weird weird was when I shut the debugger, it said debugging mode hasn't finished. I thought it had since caw loaded up? And what caw.exe do i use if it works, the one in projects or the one ea gave us? :) sorry I'm so vague!!

felix1248- Glad it's working! :)

alext369- Do you mean it deleted Program Files/ Electronic Arts or Documents/ Electronic arts? For this process we aren't touching the userdata, and I can't see why Visual C# would delete all files in Program Files/ Electronic Arts, although I could understand it deleting files it created if you shut it down before it finishes. Did you make a backup of the CAW folder first? See my reply in post #122 about the exe; this is stated in the tutorial but for some reason people keep missing it!

Just an fyi: On the ILSpy download page, there are two versions. I first downloaded the newer version and could not get the patch to complete, no matter how I tried with compatibilty, run as admin, etc. I went back and got the older version and it worked flawlessly. Not sure it affected anything, I am running Win 7 x64, I set all .exes to copy yours=set to compatibilty Win XP SP 3 and run as admin.

I understand I'm an idiot.... I am not familiar with CAW at all and I only want it for one thing (so far) which is I want different vacation spots! (Stupid of EA to limit these! Now my question :): I can't find the World Desription box at all. A finger pointing the way, please?

I saw an interesting Twitter exchange with SimGuruGraham about these tools that I think needs sharing in this thread:

.@martys_15 I won't claim that I know specific reasons why all those were left out of the public version of the software; I wasn't involved in its release. I do know that at least some of those features are essentially abandoned pieces of the tool that we've identified issues with and don't use internally. For example, the world pond tool is something we will not use when creating worlds, it has known problems internally. Others I would assume are locked for stability or performance reasons, and are values that we tend to not alter when we create worlds either. I can definitely say that we don't have plans to update CAW with additional features though; and I'd caution use of any unlocked features through fan-made patches as a "use at your own risk" type situation. RT @martys_15 @SimGuruGraham New link: http://t.co/g1khC6gd to make these hidden Features of CAW software has been unlocked in the next version of CAW.

So basically, we should watch carefully for issues with the Pond Tool, and perhaps those of you who were making custom water planes should investigate. He did not give any information about *what* was wrong with the water planes from the Pond Tool. MTS should probably also, for the time being, require a disclaimer on uploaded worlds made with the unlocked tools.

Arisuka
25th Feb 2012, 09:38 PM
He may be referring either to the fact that the pond tool isn't very easy to use (it requires certain kind of terrain sculpt and careful placement, you can't just place it anywhere) OR that there are some issues resulting from ponds created with the tool. And from his answer, it's hard to determine which one he meant, it's quite an vague answer...

I have hard time believing that the ponds themselves would cause issues, considering that EA worlds have ponds. I don't see how the method through which they are made would cause issues... but I don't know technical stuff at all, so I'll leave this to somebody who does!

kiwi_tea
25th Feb 2012, 09:40 PM
That's how I feel as well. It's his use of the word "internally" that bothers me - "problems internally" is a very ominous pairing of words.

Thanks for the info, ChildLike! On my tutorial I do specify to download the 1.0 version of ILSpy, so hopefully people will download the right one. Thanks for letting us know! :)

kiwi_tea- Perhaps the water planes generated by the pond tool are slightly different to the EA world planes? I think Zaide_Chris or SandrineD would have to look at that for us! The EA planes, such as those in Twinbrook and Bridgeport, are of a specific size as are the ones generated by our water plane tools. The planes made with the pond tool however, will go to the extent of the buildable world unless intersected by terrain, so possibly they are formulated differently.

hello

i got a lil question i saw when i wanna export my world using this modified CAW that i can label it VACATION. so i thought i just try it out..and made a small caribian island..labelt it VACATION and then exported it. i could install it. so now i dont see this town in the main options so i went to sunset valley and checked there if i can se eit as Vacation spot..but i cant find it..not in edit town (where i see the normal 3 vacation spots)..and also not when i try to travel with my sim..still only have the normal 3 choices. does this mean i still have to use the traveler mod if i want my island as a vacation spot? i thought this CAW modified would help me so i would not need this mod anymore.

has someone else tested this??

Sinfonia- see here for the implications of flagging your world as a vacation destination:
http://modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=424374
You are correct that it will not show up in the list of available worlds, it will not show up as a vacation world either unless you make a default replacement for the EA destinations! You need to undo that to have a usable world.

It is possible to make a default override for the EA vacation destinations, but a better way to have many more vacation worlds is to install Traveler Mod:
http://nraas.wikispaces.com/Traveler

You can 'unflag' your world either by manually editing the UNKN 0x296A6258 resource, or editing it in CAW again and removing the vacation flag.

kiwi_tea
29th Feb 2012, 07:22 AM
Yes, NRaas Traveller mod makes custom vacation worlds appear, but *only* in the travel window and not in the new neighbourhood drop-down which is nifty in its way if your world is built to be a "somewhere else".

sigh....No Worky! I'm getting the same error already mentioned several times in this thread.

However I did realize my Sims 3 is installed under Origin Games folder, and CAW is under Electronic Arts folder. I'm going to try reinstalling it to the the same folder as my Sims games. Will be back to edit with more info / updates later (hopefully sooner).

:new: EDIT 1: Ok, I am now safely past that step! Aside from not having CAW in the same folder as my Sims installs, I realized I'd also downloaded a version of ILSpy other than what was specified in the tutorial. I did NOT need to use the ILSpy Difference patch. The two corrections I made were to install CAW into the same folder as my Sims 3, which was in an Origins Download folder, and to use the earlier version of ILSpy. On to the next step...

:new: :new: EDIT 2: holy crap, look at all these effects!! :beer:

P.S. You may want to move the part about how to make the desktop executable shortcut, from the end of the features section to the end of the tutorial section. I didn't read that far at first, and was silly enough to ask my husband the electronics engineer how to do it, which almost put me to sleep :D

Thanks for the tip about changing the article, were you people never taught to read ALL of the instructions? :lol:

Didn't you ever have to do that exam at school, the one where the first thing says 'Step 1: Read ALL instructions through carefully before beginning!', proceeds with things like, 'Step 2: Shout 'I am a DONKEY'', 'Step 3: Write your name down and hold the paper up above your head for 10 seconds,' and ends with, 'Step 45: Now you have read this through, do nothing'? :giggler:

If EA have released a new version of CAW today to match the game patch, then this will not work.

You need CAW varsion 1.13.7 for this to function.

:lol: I put the bit about the shortcut in a separate section, so it's listed in the index. I wanted to keep it in that order as of course, when you debug it opens SuperCAW immediately, so most people would be busy playing with that before thinking about making a shortcut. Do you think it reads better now?
Yes :)

Sweet! I was tempted to install the game update when I saw the social features, but, I'm allllllllmost done with my world and I just knew something would go wrong and don't want any interruptions at this point. Game updates have a tendency to wreak havoc :rofl:

You're probably on the 1.16 version then, which this patch probably won't work for. You need to look in your worldbuilder.ini file as mentioned here:
http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:TS3_Patching_Find_Gameversion#How_to_find_your_Create-A-World_version
This patch is only for version 1.13.7 of the CAW tool; atavera has not yet updated it for the new version.

Ok so I've read through the whole thread and tried everything but I still get the file not found in Tortoise even though I run it as administrator. I tried the ilspy difference patch but it didn't work either. I have all the EPs and my game's fully patched to the latest version, so is CAW.

I do have a theory though! Wich is that I've only installed the base game traditionally but all the EPs through Origin wich makes the base game and CAW installed in the Program Files (x86)/Electronic Arts and the EPs installed through origin in the Program Files (x86)/Origin Games folder. Do you think this could be the problem?

Thankful for replys!
Happy Simming!

snuddelhund, the wiki article has just been updated to include the patch for the latest version of CAW. You need to be clear on which version of CAW you have and then use the corresponding patch (and the new patch requires a later version of ILSpy, too). Please start over and read the tutorial again, as it shows you how to find your CAW version and how to download the right version of ILSpy.

It's possible you missed this information, as I only updated it a couple of days ago. :)

If that doesn't work then we will consider the install of your game.

So I'm having the tortoise merger problem which says the line Index: was not found. Either this is not a diff file or the diff is empty. So I'm thinking it's because for some reason the supercaw zip is empty but when I use the torrent it's alright I'm not exactly sure how to use torrents. Also my game is GameVersion = 10.0.96.013001
CompatVersion = 13
WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = 10
while CAW is GameVersion = 1.13.7.014037
CompatVersion = 14
WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = 11
not sure if it matters CAW opens just fine.
I should be able to figure this out just brain dead after finals, but would like to work on my world over the break. Thanks

@snuddelhund and anyone else who is having errors in Tortoise Merge with the 1.16 patch:

(Shamelessly paraphrased from atavera!)
As before, It looks like ILSpy is decompiling slightly differently for some. Here is a fix that you can try.

- Extract and save in ILSpy as in the tutorial.
- Start TortoiseMerge
- Apply Ilspy_difference-1.1.patch (from the link at the bottom of this post) as a unified diff to your project folder.
- Now apply the original patch linked from the tutorial and continue normally.

My CAW version is 1.16, and my game version is 12.0.273 I did all the steps in the tutorial, first using ILSpy( 2.0.0.1564). Open->CAW, and with CAW selected, SAVE CODE in the "Project" folder. Then I open TortoiseMerge, Apply unified Diff, and I put the Clark Kent purchase in "diff file" and Project in "directory". And after that, It appears this. I read about an fix for this, using the ilspy_difference patch... but I dont understand how to use it. Sorry for my bad english.... I expect you understand me!!!

viiik001

Thats what appears in TortoiseMerge

simsample
26th Mar 2012, 10:14 PM
Thank you, viiik001- I understand now!

What you need to do is to follow the tutorial up to the part where it says 'Save it to the same folder as the other files. Double click on TortoiseMerge.exe to run it.'

Then, download the 'ilspy_difference-1.1' patch from the link in post #179. (http://www.modthesims.info/showpost.php?p=3816167&postcount=179) Apply that patch in Tortoise Merge as a difference file, in just the same way as you would for the 'Clark Kent' file. Then, do the right click>Patch all bit and close Tortoise Merge.

Then, open Tortoise Merge again, and continue from where it says 'In the window that appears, click 'Apply Unified Diff'.' This time, apply the 'Clark Kent' file (supercaw-1.1 patch) as normal. Continue with the tutorial to the end.

What you are doing is applying two patches to your projects folder.

I hope this is clear, please let me know if you have any problems! :)

viiik001
26th Mar 2012, 10:34 PM

lmills2

Hi SimSample,

Maybe I can help clear up what's happening with viiik001 since I'm having the same problem.

With CAW version 1.13.7, I was able to successfully complete the process by first using the ilspy_difference patch, and then using the SuperCAW patch since it would not work by itself. TortoiseMerge would give me a box with several items to patch. All text was black, and no red items were in the list.

However, with the CAW version 1.16.2, the SuperCAW patch 1.1 will not work by itself again, nor this time will applying the ilspy_difference patch first. The difference patch is causing TortoiseMerge to display a box with way more items (red and black text) than using patch 1.1 alone, like in the image that viiik001 posted above.

Did I explain things so they make any sense?

I'm still fiddling with it but no luck as of yet.

Thanks for trying to help us out.

I just tried this today, and I only followed the instructions from the Wiki page (mainly because I was unaware there are extra files to get! :) ) and thus only downloaded the stuff linked from there, and I'm happy to report I didn't encounter any issues.

I already have Visual Studio 2010 and TortoiseSVN installed prior to this, in case that matters. But the TortoiseMerge is new.
For those having difficulties, have you run Windows updates recently, especially if this is the first time running VS2010? There are Service Pack 1 updates for VS2010 and .Net 4.0 have had some updates, too.

lmills2
27th Mar 2012, 11:11 PM
Yeah, I've been using VS2010 with Net4 for quite a while now, and I make sure to keep it up to date.

I didn't have any problem the last time using both patches together, but this time it just wants to be a stubborn puppy. I've done everything exactly the same. I guess it wants to make me think harder, and I will figure something out eventually!

So just follow the tutorial from the beginning and apply that alternate patch instead of the usual one.

Hi SimSample,

Just tried again with your newest alternate 1.1 patch. I figured it may be easier to show you via an image what I'm getting on my end. I did a comparison of the TurtoiseMerge boxes using all three methods we've tried so far, and then took an Excel snapshot that shows where the differences occur between the 3 methods. I don't know if this will help or confuse more, but thought it may be easier to see where the problem may be?

As another option, could it be possible to manually edit each file that TortoiseMerge is supposed to be fixing for us?

Please let me know if I can provide anything else that could be helpful!

Okay, I'm getting confused now! Let's start again.

If I'm understanding you correctly, you have followed the tutorial to make CAW into 'SuperCAW', correct?

If so then you have created a new executable, which is called WorldBuilderCS.exe (read the bit 'Running Super CAW' in the tutorial).

If you have done that then please make that exeutable Large Adress Aware as described in the tutorial.

Does it run now? If not, does your original version of CAW run okay?

If I've misunderstood, then please explain to me exactly what steps you have done and what you are doing when you get the crash.

I have all the unpopulated packed EA worlds and with normal CAW, you can't export packed worlds but with SuperCAW, I exported Starlight Shores fine, but don't have Showtime and I will test if any problems occur.

EDIT: When loading, the world loading screen is black, due the .ini not put in. Then a weird background appears with trees and the loading loop stops playing but it still loads. There is no flyover and the world appears, there are blue lots, because I don't have Showtime. There are households but the address names, descriptions of lots are addresses like e.g, EP06/World/EP06_broadpass/LotAddress:or LotDesc: C (Community) or R (Residental)**( Lot Number)_(Starter_03 or ArtMuseum. Other than the blue lots and the black stadium. I will play a family and do further testing. I played a family, the world runs, as there are no shells and reduced number of rabbitholes. I cannot save, maybe I have to try save as, like in CAW. At night time the moon is pitch black so it hides in the night time. I have taken some screenshots which I will upload.

simsample
16th Apr 2012, 05:29 PM
Yes, Starlight Shores is built with objects and trees that only come with Showtime, so it will look pretty bad without those things. You would probably be better off downloading the heightmap from our resources section, and building a fresh world from scratch on that. Although the terrain will look odd without the distant terrain object.

There is probably untold corruption in that world without Showtime (broken references) and anyway, it is technically piracy for someone to share the Starlight Shores.world file with you when you don't have Showtime.

Interesting experiment, though!

I patched my game, and wanted to update Super CAW to work with it. But I hit two problems trying to download some of the files required in the tutorial... I can't run ILSpy as it gives me just a notification that I must register it to use it. Also when I try to download the patches from 4shared it says that 'You should Sign Up or Login to download this file'. :/
I just wanted to ask if somebody else has these show up for them? Sure I'd register but I'd rather not if there's a way around it...

Hey Arisuka, I can download and run ILSpy without registration, can you show a screenshot of the error? Which version are you downloading- are you downloading the binaries or something else?

For the 4Shared link, yes- 4Shared keep changing their registration policies. Originally any file up to 1GB could be downloaded without registration, then they changed that to 100Mb... now it seems that every file requires registration. You could try one of the logins from Bugmenot for that so that you don't have to login just to download:
http://www.bugmenot.com/view/4shared.com
Alternatively, you could try this logon:
Login: [email protected]
Password: modthesims
That was just registered using a temporary email address, so should work okay. :)

http://sourceforge.net/projects/sharpdevelop/files/ILSpy/2.0/ILSpy_Master_2.0.0.1564_Beta_Binaries.zip/download

It works! Thank you so much! :D The version of ILSpy I was using that caused errors was 2.0.0.1595 RTW Binaries.

Hey guys,
can anyone help me? The patch and the Totoise Merge work fine with no errors (I use the 1.16.2 version and the ILspy version 2.0.0.1564.). But when I use Microsoft Visual I get a lot of errors.
"error while constructing"
There is a window below which lists 1097 errors. It shows files which the program doesn't seem to find ("blabla could not be found").
And it is notifying that some Assembly files could not be found.

Can somebody help me please??? :cry:

My game versions:

Sims 3 1.31.118.015002
Adventures 2.17.2.011032
Ambitions 4.10.1.011031
Late Night 6.5.1.011031

Pets10.0.96.013001

Not sure why that's happening, CrazyDragon004. Try the pre-compiled exe in this thread:

One more question: how do I make the pond look smoother? I tried everything but there are always those ugly edges. When I start Edit-in-Game those edges don't disappear.

Looks like you probably want to make it deeper- but ask that question in the main CAW forum, since this thread is just for problems with SuperCAW.

Hey people!

I got a big problem.

I just bought showtime... 2 months ago. After installing it, I downloaded CAW again and it works, so now 2-3 days ago I download this patch, and the other files i need.
I tried the older patch, I tried the newest, linked patch, today i download the new CAW file and updated my game and it still doesnt work.

Now i got a LOT of warnings caused by missing lines in patch and file.

This is only one example for the problem itself :(

can you help me? I hooope so! I haven't tried out the new CAW tools until now, so it never worked, cause I never installed it, but NOW i want, want, want to use the pond tool :D

This is the error message.
I hope you can help me, guys :)

Does this work with the 1.34 patch too? somehow i cant get it to work with that even so the caw version still seems to be the same as for 1.33 game patch.

9 pages later ....
*Link snipped*
this worked for current CAW version Version: 0.430.0.811 which I just downloaded and installed tonight June 24 2012, the rest of this and I tried it all step by step did not work, Fully updated game all expansion Window 7 64, frankly I think it would be better for everyone involved if you just skip the patching mess and move onto the releasing the ready made working version, but really thanks for this not only did it solve my caw problem it put a smile on my face thinking of what we used to use debuggers for back in the day...

Also think the overlooked comment a few pages back that debugging/decompiling could be use to unlock EIG might not be to far off, CAS and sim inporting not working is likely just a lock, we know they can work from porter and master controller...

Anyway thanks again

Kiritra, thank you for that, however a decision was made when this was first posted to NOT link to an executable on this site, since posting an executable could possibly be viewed as piracy by EA. Instead, we decided to host/ support the patches instead.

The developer of the patch does host an executable on an external site, however:
http://www.den.simlogical.com/denforum/index.php?PHPSESSID=ac56u20h3dbfmthm41v5npbdh4&topic=860.0
Perhaps you could post there, as this update could be useful to many. I have not had much time for Simming recently so have not updated my own game, so cannot comment on whether a new patch is needed- but perhaps if you ask the developer he may find time to release one. :)

@JazUnknown and Vany89- I haven't had time to test this myself, but it looks as though a new patch may be needed, even though the patch table reports that no new version of CAW has been issued.
http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Patch_Table
So you may have to wait, or follow Kiritra's link if he reposts it on another forum.

Where did you install your copy of CAW to? The path will be [Install Location]\ Electronic Arts\ The Sims 3 Create a World Tool \ CAW.exe.

Hello. I went through all the steps as shown on the tutorial, ran every program as admin, my versions are up to date and it still doesn't work... I get the "The system cannot find the file specified." and after clicking ok I get " The patch seems outdated! ... ; do not match!" I also noticed that when I merge with Tortoise to the 'project' folder I have a file that nobody seems to have. Sims3WorldPackagerCmd.cs . I don't know if that is of any importance. (See images below)

OS: Windows 7 64bit
Base Game = v1.36
Caw = v1.18

Also, if of any help I have the following expansions:

Ambitions/ Late Night/ Town Life Stuff/ Pets/ Showtime

I took off the files as you mentioned in IlSpy and redid the process and still no change. :help:

It seems that the patch does not need updating for the 1.19.3 version of CAW; although a new compiled exe is available. Please see the wiki article for details! :)

I am having some problems with this. I followed the instructions exactly and am having issues. I will attach pictures of me error messages. I saw the link about the pre-compiled executable...and forgive me for asking, but can someone possibly run through the steps using that instead of the original patch? I hope that will work, but I'd like to be walked through it so I don't make any errors. Please help!!!

Edit: Just attempted with precompiled version by myself and now all file patches in that left window are read instead of just two being red as before. PLEASE help! lol I really want this to work! Added image of this also!

Edit(added link)
http://www.4shared.com/file/KvK-ilAH/ilspy_difference.html?refurl=d1url

I tried this as well...posted pic...everything is in red. I don't know where I'm going wrong, but it's not finding any of these files. :( I've been trying this for days now...

A quick question- what version of the game would be best to update to for CAW and the SuperCAW to work?

My base game is currently at 1.26.

I got this to work! Thank you simsample and atavera for the awesome work and your patient and thorough explanation surrounding the challenges. I am running Windows 7, fully patched 1.39 all ep and sp as well. My CAW version 1.19.3.018037. I did end up using the pre-compiled patch. Now to build Eggy's World!!!

Did you make a folder for ilspy and then unzip ILSpy_Master_2.1.0.1603_RTW_Binaries.zip inside that folder? If so you should have a collection of files, one is called ILSpy.exe Just double click on it to run it. It does not want to open with an application, because it is an application itself.

I think you must have misunderstood some step of the instruction. Windows will never ask you what program to open an executable program with. What was the whole name of the file you double-clicked? Tell me the whole name including the bit after the dot. Can you actually see the bits of filenames after the dot, or do you have that turned off? Some people don't have the ends (file extensions) showing.

What happens when you double click on other .exe files?

I hate to interject my problems when someone else is still trying to find solutions. But, EA has updated their version of CAW to 0.2.0.165. I don't know if this is what AlexBrooooooklyn273 is dealing with. But I was wondering if there was an updated version of ILSpy? or if ILSpy_Master_2.1.0.1603 will do?
