View Full Version : Ruined disk installation issues :/

I've recently wiped my computer clean and installed Windows 7. I backed up my entire hard drive before doing so, and I've got all of my sims files on an external hard drive. I figured I'd just re-install the games and then transfer my user files, which worked out fine until I got to Open for Business. It would appear the disk's been ruined, and I can't install the game. (I've already been halfway through this (http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Install) guide, but I don't want to buy a disk repair kit if I don't have to.)
My question is this: If I've got all of the necessary program files already on my external hard drive, can I just stick them into the proper place in my computer, or will that ruin everything? Is an actual install necessary to keep all of the expansion packs integrated?

Any help would be very much appreciated, thank you!

Sadly, you can't just copy the Program Files over - there are registry entries which are nearly impossible to properly reconstruct, especially if you're not experienced in mucking about with the registry. You'll need to install from the/a disk - or, you may be able to get a free digital download from EA, if you still have your CD key.
