View Full Version : How exactly does the game "rate" a pregnancy?

Since I've been playing the "nothing is free" challenge, I've gotten to see specifically what causes the game to decide that the child had a bad upbringing so the traits are random. It's mostly straightforward.

Toddler to Kid - You must learn most (or all?) of the toddler achievements. I don't know if you actually need to learn all of them, but i know one isn't enough.

Kid to Teen and Teen to YA - You must get decent grades in school. My town has no schools so they are failing this one every time

But I still don't get baby traits - I know its this kind of general nebulous "how good mom feels" thing. I seem to not be able to get more than one baby trait pickable and I don't know what I did to cause the game to select both. I try to keep mom in the green as much as possible, but I've had moms accidentally go into red hunger or woke up with bad night's sleep moodlet many times and they got to pick a trait. At the same time I had a mom who pretty much stayed in bed and was pampered and bright green all the time didn't get to pick any traits.

There is no hospital in town and am starting to wonder if a hospital is required to get both baby traits selectable. I can't remember if I ever had a sim not give birth at the hospital before I did the challenge.

I've tried looking up wikis. They are just vague about what happens with babies during pregnancy. Where all I could glean was what I already knew.. if mom gets on fire, almost starves to death and electrocuted a few times during pregnancy, its not likely you'll get to pick any traits. But aside from that.. who knows?

Hey, Kewpie, as you know, I'm doing the same challenge. I've had five pregnancies in my controllable household with no hospital and was able to pick both traits for all but one of the babies, where I could only choose one trait. So, I don't know what exactly is required, but I do know you don't need a hospital.

Im doing the same challenge and it increasingly looks random to me. I have had five births from the same mother, nothing in neighbourhood yet so no reading pregnancy books, dayspa, etc and three babies she could decide traits for the others couldn't.

I know from toddler to child they just have to learn potty, walking and talking

I would guess it's the average mood for the length of the pregnancy.

I think van Dorn has it nailed. I don't think it's totally random, because I have always been someone who pretty much pampered my sims during pregnancy before (reading baby books, going to the spa as much as possible.. etc) and they ALWAYS got two traits to pick. I didn't even realize that picking out the two traits at birth wasn't always an option until this challenge. That's one thing I like about it. I'm learning stuff about the game that is more than "grind skills, get rich, get spoiled"

No, I didnt mean it was completely random. That obviously isn't the case. I do think though that when you are unable to pamper them during pregnancy that is when it turns a bit random. All of mine have had high mood in pregnancy but not all have been able to pick two or even one trait.

In my experience, good mood + pregnancy book + hospital = two traits, every time. I get so much control over traits, I actually wish the game would force one once in a while.
