View Full Version : Removing CAW trees under lots

Hi all. The owner of Longview II was nice enough to post the CAW file for the world. The file came without the lots and over the past several days I added in the lots how I wanted them. After a day of trouble I managed to export and get the world in my game. Yesterday I started the process of placing lots and sims into the world and ran into a small problem. There are atleast two lots that have CAW placed foilage (a tree and some brush) on them. Anyone know how I can get rid of them? I tried to grab them with the games world editior but keep grabbing the lots instead. I can't go into edit the lot and delete them that way, because as far as the world is concerned they aren't on the lots. I've tried removing/moving the lots so I can get rid of the trouble spots. Problem with that is, when I try to replace the lots, the game says they can't be placed on a lot. It's thinking that there's still a lot there! I'd hate to have to go back into CAW, make those tiny changes, re-export, and start placing the lots again all over. Anyone have an idea of what I can do?

This should probably be in the create>sims3>create a world forum, but oh well.
The trees and plants in that world are probably bundled together to make it run faster.
At the top of caw under the heading "roads and trees" there are two buttons with trees on them, one doing this >TREES< one doing this <TREES>. The one with with the outward <> is the one you want to click, and then select the folder with all the foliage and stuff in it. That will separate the trees so you can select them individually.
If you still can't grab them, you will have to go into the folder they are in and search for them. They might be named gameobject, so you could have to scroll down for a while finding them.
Alternatively, you could remove the lots or move them, delete the trees and then put the lot back in place. Make sure the trees are still separated though, otherwise in the folders it will show the bundled-together files. When you save the game, the trees will rebundle to make your game faster.

Sorry about the wrong folder. I'll be honest, it's hard to find some of the help me folders. I looked and couldn't find it. My problem isn't removing them in CAW, the problem is that I'm in the game with the world and not CAW. The only way the game will let me pick them up and delete them is if I move the lots first, but then the game won't let me put the lots back where they were.

Did the lots come with the world, or was it empty and you added the lots? If it was empty you could save the lot to your bin, delete the lot and then the trees, place the lot again (this would help: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=471164) and place your building on top. Sometimes when I'm in the lot I can select the things I placed in CAW that are on that lot, although I'm sure you've tried selecting it in the lot before. x3
If you can't do these, then I think the only way to do it would be to download create a world and open the file (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=469942) and delete the trees that way. You could possibility also petition the original creator to get rid of the trees for you in that place though, especially if they originally placed the lots with the trees there.

Can you not shift-click object> Delete it in live mode on the trees?

I realize I'm committing necromancy, but this thread turned up on a search for exactly the same problem. I added lots to Bakafox's lovely Avalon. In fact, Simsample helped me fix the world from some kind of file corruption that I never did track down.

Now I've discovered that I have some very inconvenient scrubbrush from the world poking up through some of my houses. I can't select the plants in build mode because they're part of the world. I can't delete them in Edit Town because they're part of a lot.

The plants don't seem to be selectable by shift-click either.

I was just curious to know if there was anything in the collected wisdom here for this problem.

Sorry for resurrecting the old thread :-p.
