Messed Up Game, Can I save my sim?

It's a question, because I had one of my sims talk to a ghost and it lagged to the point it was almost unplayable so I had her stop. Then her relationship with said ghost disappeared and the game lags (worse at night) but it's like her friendship with the ghost vanished. I noticed that someone had his sim talk to a ghost only for his sim to be completely unretreivable... I'm running the latest patch, as well
So...
What do I do to fix the lag?
And do ghosts mess up your game?/Why did the ghost disappear from the relationship panel completely?
So far I've only had 1 crash and 2 times I needed to reset a sim. I hope it stays that way.

Well. All the foreigners now have no portrait. One of the sims in the neighborhood lost her hair when she's a high schooler. I KNOW this is a common problem but how do I save my two original sims in the house? (even IF I think one of my original sims is causing it :| ) She has maxed out pretty much every skill (AND the challenge books), so I'd hate to lose her. I'm sending her in a death trap currently. :rolleyes: I'll say what happens then. I HAVE NO idea what is going wrong either, there's not much I can do with a base game and one expansion. I only have two modscripts for same sex pregnancy (haven't used it. At all.) and some clothes...
SECOND edit: All right, sending her to Shang Simla has fixed the disappeared portraits...

I don't know what's going on with the lag or the ghosts, although I suspect that if it was a random ghost the relationship vanished when the ghost did and now the game is trying to see if the ghost is coming out and needs to restore the relationship.

If you move your sims into the sim bin you can keep them to use in another game. They keep skills, money, and inventory items. In fact, if you like the house you can move that. Unlike Sims 2, it is considered safe to move an occupied lot in Sims 3. And I was recently running an experiment where a sim completed all the charisma challenges by being in the ghost hunter career and only interacting with the ghosts she was banishing. Her reward was to try for baby with one before sending him on. So she has 20 best friends, and the only relationship she is showing is her baby. This suggests that even if you move them to an empty neighborhood you will keep your charisma challenges. (Although it would be harder to complete any of them that you've missed. lol)
