View Full Version : There are so many things you can do in each EP that I've never, ever tried.

I had no idea until today that you can store fish in self-made ponds. I had no idea that there are hidden fish you have to unlock the ability to catch. I had no idea you could even use BAIT! I had no idea there were super secret plants you could get from gardening, or that a sim who reaches level 10 of the Science career can give special effects (enchantments, basically) to ANY furniture in their house, or that sims who have a kid with a service NPC produce a child with a special trait (pyromaniacs, kids who can clean the house if their parent is a maid, kids that love pizza if their parent is a pizza delivery person!)...and that's just the BASE GAME! :o There's so much possibility for stuff to do...to try and get one of every plant, one of every fish, one of every gemstone, one of every bug...
Now that I think about it, the sheer scope of things you can collect that you can't buy (unless you cheat) is astounding! For example, there's 22 different gems and 13 different cuts of gem (plus tiberium which can be cut into two cuts), making for a total of 288 gems to collect, or 312 if you include uncut versions! And then there's large and small versions of each one, making that FIVE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY SIX DIFFERENT COMBINATIONS OF GEMSTONES! That's an RPG-fan's collecting dream :) Then there's every fish, every bug, every career object, every relic, every type of ghost, every type of sim ghost...
I guess it's a side effect of only playing small families...I always make two dudes and have them do something I'm interested in (usually involving gemstones or ghosts or something), eventually have them get a kid, and the kid basically repeats the process :P But if you play a bigger family you have more people to take care of and less time to spend on the things they each like to do...so it's hard.
How do you decide what to do with your sims? I want to try to do all these great things! I've never even had a celebrity past level 2, or a vampire, or a mummy, or a sculptor, or investigator, or TONS OF THINGS! D:
I think I'll start slow and seduce the pizza man so we can have a pizza-obsessed kid. Maybe seduce the fireman, then divorce him, and have the fireman seduce the pizza man so they can have a pizza-obssed pyromaniac kid... :mod:

I know there is a lot in the game that I haven't done yet, either, and I'm hoping to "discover" more while I play my legacy. But as far as the collecting goes... Whether its pets, bugs, fish, gems, relics, WHATEVER, I find it boring and repetitive reeeeeally quickly :/

Why would you release the fish? Your sim just spent an hour of his limited lifespan to catch that 100 gr. minnow that he could use to feed his whole family and now you want him to go through all that again? :wtf:

No, not release! If you make a pond on your lot, you can put the fish in there, and it creates a spawner! So if you catch one super rare fish and stick it in your pond, you can catch as many as you want! :D I think you have to have multiples to do it to begin with (presumably you're creating a breeding pond). So you can go to france and get some crocodiles and then stick them in your back yard and have them whenever you want!

Ok, now that one I didn't know either!
I'm kinda with you on a lot of the little things in the game. As far as EP stuff, like Ambitions, I haven't played over 1/2 the careers yet. I've done only a few of the tombs in Egypt and that's about it. I've only created one SimBot ever, and moved onto a different game shortly after, so never really played with that either. So much left to do!

I see what you mean. But don't we get the spawner in buydebug? Anyway, too much trouble to populate the pond in the first place. Had an opportunity once to provide 3 fish legs to the restaurant. Went to France to catch the frogs, got distracted by the scenery and came back without the frogs. Actually brought 1 back and since there was nothing else to do with it, I put it in a aquarium.

You can buy the spawner, but that's cheating and not as satisfying. Catching a deathfish after getting all the other fish and having a permanent monument to it in a backyard graveyard you built yourself to house one of each type of ghost via killing all your neighbors is probably a lot more satisfying than just spawning all those things with cheats :D

I knew about all the things you mentioned but some only in theory. There is still a lot of features I didn't really try. Only things I played through to the full extent without any cheats are probably gardening and tomb exploration. Most of the time I go only so far. I didn't make a single simbot yet, though I played inventor sims. ;) But I'm surprised that you haven't played a celebrity past level 2. Before having a mod, I had sims reach level 4 without even trying.

I have never had a birthday party. So I've never had my sim blow out the candles on the cake. I have generations but I've never held a wedding. I've also never held any party for that matter. Other things I haven't done is create a simbot, play as a ghost, or create gemstones. I'm pretty sure there is a ton I haven't tried but those are the things I can think of on top of my head.

When I started playing again last year, one of the coolest things I learned was how to get rich transfiguring low grade gems with Carter's Display Case XL...
These days I only get to play 2-3 hours a week...I haven't even seen a unicorn yet.

I once created a mod which made weddings last 72 hours. What should have been a wonderful day (and was, kinda; they had a beautiful view, over 40 guests, lavish settings, everyone dressed really nice, etc...) turned into a nightmare by the end of it. I'd still do it again though, if I make that party mod again...
Weddings can be a lot of fun if you can manage all your guests...

I stopped having birthday parties after my last one. The father was aging to adult, blew out the candles, set himself on fire, and burned to death in front of his whole family and invited friends. I've avoided birthday parties since.

Interesting find with the pond. I was thinking of reinstalling the game as I have a new computer now, so I'll have to remember to check that out. Also, like lexylu was saying, I'm surprised you haven't got a Sim past two celebrity stars yet; I thought everyone had the problem where stars were gained quickly, and sometimes for no reason, or whatever. I swear, all my Sim needs to do is take a virtual poop and all of a sudden he's a four star celebrity with some bitch spreading stuff about him.

Unfortunately the game runs kinda poorly for me so a house with more than 3 sims in a world with more than, like, 50 lots...is lame. :( I can't really do ANYTHING without playing a small town. But I don't know of any small towns that still have lots of features. :( I suppose you could do fine with one type of bar and one small park venue. Your sim won't ever get to play in a huge stadium, but...

Nah, I said people shouldn't criticize the way the game is made when they don't understand how games are made. Totally different. Feel free to ruin everyone's good vibes, though! :O
I thought of more things I've never done. I've never owned a vacation home. I've never played a sim on a life length longer than Normal. I've never had a sim in a band. I've never gone to a bar where you need to be important to get in. I've never caught *a single butterfly!* And I've never had a ghost baby. I've never even owned a CAT.

As soon as EA introduces electric guitars and electric basses, I will be forming bands like there is no tomorrow. Why did EA give us the ability to have country/jazz/other acoustic bands but not ROCK BANDS, which are the best bands ever??

AdamantEve, I know what you mean. My recent "I never knew" was about bake sales. A few days ago, I saw a table set up in a park and found out that children can do those.
I used to only have the base TS3 game but jumped on a buy-one-get-one-free sale this past holiday season and got all of the EPs and SPs. So, basically, I never had the chance to play one EP at a time and fully explore one EP while waiting for the next one to come out.
It's a nice surprise to find those "new" things that are part of each EP. It's a game refresher for me and something new for my sims to try.

I've never explored the Klepto trait, even though I've given it to several sims ha. I've never played with an alternative lifestate, although i just got my first ghost a couple days ago, and I've had the game since release too. I've tried bands here and there but they never seem to be all together in one place, I never get gigs and they always kind of seem to fall apart. Heh but i usually use that as part of their storyline so it never really bothered me I guess.
Yeah still haven't done a bake sale either.... how do you do that?

My current active family only has a toddler, so I haven't tried to do a bake sale yet. After seeing the bake sale stand setup in the park, I did find this link for more info about it though...

I don't have a crappy computer! Sims 3 is just crappy-running in general. I could use a better processor, but this computer hasn't stopped me from running any modern game that has come out on the past few years, so...
Sims 3 is just so processing-heavy that it tends to be cruddy when it comes to moving around town or running at anything other than 1x speed and stuff like that. So I work better with small worlds, which like I said I can't find any of!

Adamant, try My Sim Realty:

They have some small worlds. There's a recent one, Winchester Farming Community, that includes EP lots up to Pets, so there's LN bars, AMB lots, etc, all on a small map.

Yeah, if you aren't up to making your own worlds in CAW (I know I'm not), then you are stuck trying to find worlds that best fit your criteria. None of them will be the perfect fit, but you can adjust them to suit.
My Sim Realty does have lots of worlds in varying sizes.
I like Redwood Harbor for a small map. It isn't farm country, but it's not urban either. It's up to LN, so it doesn't include Pets lots (or SHT lots), but it does have some empty community lots to add your own venues.

I like redwood too :D
I used redwood when I had a more bad pc to play on, I just made the world more my own by making clubs and bars, even added some skyskrapers or what ever they are called :O So it was like tiny city

How do you decide what to do with your sims? I decide what to do with the sim depending on the traits they get. I always hit random if I have managed to grow my kids well enough to be allowed to choose the trait.
That's why I have not yet even tried all the traits. Haven't been able to try all the jobs/interactions. Never had a band, a vampire, or a daycare or even ridden a horse.
I have currently 21 households that I play in 1week rotation. So with all of them I can do different things. Like one guy wants to be a famous director so he is working towards that, but I'm also going to have him start a video rental store and when he does become a director I'll have him start a having premier partis for his new movies. Before this guy started practising his movie making skills, I never used the video camera before.
I'm really looking forward playing my generation 7 Hurst legacy heir, her LTW is to have 50 000 in stolen goods (or something like that), she's a klepto, and I really want to finish her LTW. I think it's going to a lot of fun. Unfortunately I still have 5 households before this rotation ends and her household is number 14 on the list.

There is so much I havent done either, never had a mummy, a scientist, had no idear about the transfiguration thingie ...what IS that about btw? & top scientists can modify items in there home? how, like what? Never had a sim-bot. Never owned a vacation home, never gotten to 3 star fame.... how dull I suddnly feel! lol

Transfiguration or whatever is when you put stuff on the huge display case from WA. If you have a gemstone/ingot in each slot, you can pay 500 and the panels drop into the machine, come back up empty, the machine does its thing, and then a panel pops up with something new on it. You can use it to get something special if you know the "recipe" to do so, or to get giant versions of gemstones.
Scientists can "Perform Experiment" on stuff, which makes them bring out a raygun and shoot it with...math? And then it gets a special effect, like creating a moodlet or making a noise or having a visual effect on it. If you do it enough you could eventually just make every single item in your house make your sims happy.
kristie91
19th Mar 2012, 04:22 PM
Wow there is a some stuff that I didn't know your sims could do like the scientists performing experiment. I'll have to try that when I get back home. I wonder if there is a ton of other stuff that I haven't know about before.
Other stuff I haven't done is..
Jump on the trampoline (came with high end loft stuff)
Ride a horse
Catch higher end fish like the death fish
Visit France
Make higher end recipes like lobster
Do the salon profession or whatever its called
Do the interior design profession
Use the time machine
and there is probably some others that I haven't done
