furnishing for NPC in apartments?

I have recently started to build aparments, and this question bugged me through the night. Do I really have to put furniture in the apartments? I hated all the work! Would the NPC´s just reject moving in (I don´t mind if the flats surrounding my sims are empty), or would they move in and sleep on the floor (I dont mind that since they´re not playable anyway) Im not uploading my stuff, Im just curious if anyone knows if it affects the gameplay or the conversion to apartment-lot.

In a vanilla game, you don't need furniture in apartments. Townies in apartments don't actually use anything in the apartment, they just stand behind the door and have their motives altered by the game mechanics.

There are mods from Pescado and Inge Jones which change the vanilla behavior.
