I know there's been a few forums on this already, but most were dated last year so I wanted to see if anyone found anything else out?

I had got my macbook replaced 2 days ago, because there were many internal errors on Apple's part, thinking that that was the problem with my sims game getting the

"Exception Raised
Unhandled page fault on write access at 00000 x (random numbers and letters)
Do you wish to debug it ?"

messages. I have Pets, Late night, World Adventures, Ambitions, and Generations. I'm really hoping to get the new expansion but I'm worried it's going to be a waste of money if I keep getting these error messages.

It was running fantastically up until last night where I got the same error in the CAS screen.

I tried to follow Ellacharm's ( i hope that's the right name) directions for solving the problem, but all the places she provided where not in my system, for some really odd reason.

I have no more graphic or speed problems, I just get this message randomly.

I have custom hair, clothes, skin, eyes, sims, furniture and neighborhoods, but not much of each thing. I reaaaaalllllllyyyyyy don't want a vanilla game, especially since my custom sims are so beautiful and i'm working on a story ;~;

Does anyone have any updates on how to fix this? :c

OH and I forgot to mention, in my DCCaches file, I have a [missingdeps.idx] file in there, is that supposed to be in there with a few other files? Something about it's name just doesn't feel right.

Pet idle errors keep showing up on the floor and blocking my sims' way, and my pets can't do anything by themselves, they glitch and it just cancels. What's the problem here and how do I fix it? D:

What happens when you go through the Game Problem FAQ (http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Sims_3_Game_Problem)?

I find nothing on the subject about the pet idles, and i've tried everything and still get the errors.

Ya know, all the while you've posted all the various and sundry issues you have with the game, when someone posted a suggestion, either it gets ignored, or you come back later saying that "Nvm, I fixed it!". Perverse nature that I have - I'm just waiting for you to fix it yourself again and save me some time posting, 'cos otherwise my rant turns into an essay. See?

I'm kinda wary in suggesting things for you to try if you're not gonna follow through. Such a waste of my time, I mean, if you're gonna do the troubleshooting after you start a new thread.. and then found the solution in one of the FAQs.
So, before you start yet another thread:
keep all issues in one thread. I'm not gonna be chasing down all your open threads to see if you have replied to the last suggestion to see what the status is. Or to see if the issues can all be placed on one root cause - the crap tonne of CC you have. And especially, if all the things are related. Keeping it in one thread means we see the backstory - what's been done, what's been suggested but ignored, what needs to be repeated since information is not included or ignored, etc etc.
do the Game Problem FAQ before you post in here, and then lets us know what the status of doing those steps are.
same with the 3 delete/repair of Permissions / Preferences / Cache stuff on the Mac
include patch version - and no current or latest crap. State the version number explicitly. The current or latest terms means nothing if EA release more than one patch in a week or every other week...
since I get tired Archiving all your other threads, next NEW thread without the above info gets locked/archived automatically. Capisce?

Now, if you've done the above (2) and (3)...tell us what the outcome is on a vanilla game? I'm not insisting that you play the game vanilla! This is just to troubleshoot and pinpoint where the root cause is.

If you can play and load a brand new game 100% cc-free without all the issues you've been having, then either the CC is at fault or the Saves.
If you can load the game, but cannot play a 100% cc-free, brand new game, without all the issues you've been having, then the root cause is either the Application data has gotten corrupted or the Cider coding itself is borking the game on top of all the PC issues.

If we want to rule out the Application Data, only alternative is an uninstall. But since you've been writing about new HDD and lost codes, I gather this is a brand new install? But you're still using all that CC, aren't you?

So, then you need to weed out the bad CC - Game Help:TS3 Finding Problem Custom Content.
And if it is a bad Save, then you need Twallan's Porter to transplant the Households to another Save.

Thank you so much for everything you've given me and putting up with my annoying self :c,
but the exception raised thing doesn't happen as much as it used to, and i've become used to just saving the game a lot in case of the errors, and i'm not really worrying about it too much anymore since I see that the majority of apple users get these errors and it's EA's doing, and I'm fine with waiting until they come up with a fix, or until I get my gaming pc in a few months. I am, however really concerned about how pets can't use free will, they just glitch then leave behind an either visible black shiny ball idle error, or just make the floor un-walkable on and it's making me have to move every couple hours because i can't get out of my room/into my kitchen/ etc. I've looked all over online already before posting this to save both time and energy, but do you happen to know how to get rid of the idles showing up and make my pets not glitch anymore?

Again, I really appreciate your time, i'm just a dummy when it comes to macs, and just for the record, getting this mac wasn't my idea. D:

:wtf: I don't know how many times or how many ways to say this.
Did you not do the FAQ? That black ball thing is still showing up in a new game with no cc whatsoever?
In searching for similar threads - the culprit always point to outdated cc. And that was eons ago. No new threads on this black ball/sphere has resurfaced, other than yours. And Pets idles is not a recurring theme on bugs reported for 1.3x versions, which I noticed you still have not supplied your game version.
And I don't have issues with Pets idles, FYI. With CC or no CC.

The same troubleshooting still applies on a PC, just so you know. So, in a few months when you play on a PC, the same requirements still apply when in comes to information to supply in Help.

Are you interested in troubleshooting or be given the solution on a silver platter? There's no such solution anyways, other than the above FAQ that can quickly point us to start investigating somewhere.
If not interested in troubleshooting and working it out, I don't see why others need to help. And all threads from you can be straightaway locked/archived now and forever.

As I stated when I began this thread, I followed the FAQ troubleshoot instructions and your instructions, and got not results.

• Removed all CC - still had the problem.

• I can't uninstall because I don't have all the CDs and codes.

•Didn't bother to test the CC because I still had the problem without the CC.

•Tried to do your instructions by deleting caches and what not but I was unable to find the cache file through the way you provided, through the library, as if it was never there.

My game version is 10.0.96.015001 and says I'm up to date.

Also, every time I get an "Exception Raised", it adds a document to my Sims folder, I'm not sure if you all are familiar with coding, but this is what it says.

I bolded that because that's identical to the error message I get in the game, then this shows up in my sims folder, along with the same document but in a different form. I'll attach a photo of my sims folder, and maybe you see a problem?

& I saw a thread that showed that Custom furniture was showing as shiny black balls on the floor, however my custom furniture is fine, but every time my pet glitches when it tries to do something itself, it leaves either a black ball behind (when i pick it up with moveobjects it says "generic pet idle jig" and I delete them, but now they're not showing up at all and my people can't get out of their rooms/into the kitchen/ etc.

I'm trying to provide as much info as I can, I apologize.

Only delete the caches listed in the FAQ, no others. :)

ohayitstiffanay

okay thank you, and as for the black balls showing up everywhere, they're still invisible and all my sims are stuck in their house and I keep having to move them into new houses just for the same problem to happen again. The pets always glitch when free will turns on and they try to do something themselves, then the space becomes occupied.

----
i also noticed that since the first error on my new macbook happened, that all the screenshots aren't in the screenshots folder.

You know what I see? I see a lot of excuses.
And what don't I see? This -> load a brand new game 100% cc-free still showing up in a new game with no cc whatsoever? Maybe 5th time's the charm. Have you tested on a new game, on Sunset Valley with NO CC, with clean user files?
I bolded that part, because the sentiments is identical to what I've been repeating time and again. :)
[eta, this bit just pop with a Loud eureka exclamation DING! inside my head] I followed the FAQ troubleshoot instructions and your instructions, and got not results. What does that mean, exactly? Got no results when you load a new cc-free game? Meaning, the pets idles still leave behind the black balls? Or new cc-free game cannot even load? Or new cc-free game loads and runs fine?

Thought you found the codes? And what's wrong with searching using Google or your favorite Search Engine? Lookie what I found - http://bluebellflora.com/ts3-on-a-mac/finding-your-serial-key-using-terminal - BluebellFlora's posts on this topic are everywhere once you search for mac, keys, codes, registry.

That is Pet's version, and as Pets is not the game that gets updated, that info is not the one needed. I need the version for Base Game. The Windows report does show you're on 1.33, but does the Mac recognize it as such?

Why is there an "-f" in the commandline? How are you starting the game, anyway?
Are you using a Bootcamp partition to play the game? If not, the Windows Exception report is as useful as WinXP on an iPad.

ohayitstiffanay
25th Mar 2012, 02:09 AM
Yes yes, I have started a new game with no CC and I still get the error and the black balls.

& Remind me, what do you mean by clean user files? Removed caches, etc.?

And I'm not sure where to find the base game's version, I just looked at the launcher.

And I was actually going to ask you why there was so many Windows things in the error launches, if I'm running on Mac without bootcamp? Could that be causing issues?

Mordant17
25th Mar 2012, 03:42 AM
For a clean set of user files, follow the third (http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Sims_3_Game_Problem#Step_3:_Remove_User_Files) step of the Game Problem FAQ (let the game generate a brand new Sims 3 folder for you).

To find the base game version, hover over the base game icon in the launcher.

I'm guessing the reason you're see Windows references in the error log is because the game was ported from Windows to Mac.

To access the Library folder in OS X lion, in Finder go to the Go menu and hold the option key. You'll see the Library as an option.

delete preferences
/Users/<Username>/Library/Preferences/The Sims 3 Preferences folder
delete caches:
<diskname>/Library/Caches/<anything with Sims 3 in it>
/Users/<Username>/Library/Caches/<anything with Sims 3 in it>
repair permissions
/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility, "Repair Permissions"
If repairing permissions mention some error or of files being locked, reboot the system and try that step again.

Going to test it out. Renamed the file and moved the mods, saves, and saved sims file into the new file as instructed and i'll post back later.

Renamed the file and moved the mods, saves, and saved sims file into the new file as instructed.
*sigh* No!

Clean user files means clean user files - no cc, no saves, no saved sims, and no mods!

And I thought that "yes, yes, I've done all this, but oh golly gosh! Issue is still there!". So now, no? Hmm, I wonder why? ;) And why was that so hard to write? Have to be repeated (*looks at post count*) so many times?
*Double-sigh with double faceplam.*

And I see now you're like a nail, eh? So, I'll just put this here again. Why is there an "-f" in the commandline? How are you starting the game, anyway?

ohayitstiffanay
25th Mar 2012, 06:38 AM
everything went pretty well, i'll have to see how it goes tomorrow, i might've just got a lucky launch.

& i'm launching the game through the launcher, i don't do anything special.

ellacharmed
25th Mar 2012, 05:32 PM
Aha! So, now we can move on!
If new game on clean user files, with no cc can run with no "black ball Pets glitch", means the corruption is not in the Applications data files.

Ready to proceed to the next step, after you've clocked in more gameplay to confirm the above is not just a fluke?
Yes, I've decided not to throw everything in one post, as it would save me repeating myself 5 times. So we'll go at a snail's pace...one mini-step at a time, until I get the response before we move along.

We might even try bypassing Launcher next. ;)

ohayitstiffanay
25th Mar 2012, 09:10 PM
That might've actually done the trick! All my CC is working now, (furniture), the dog is still glitching but I haven't seen any black balls and the game is faster. I think it really was something in my user file. I'll test it one more time and I'll let you know. Thank you so much.

Edit: Welp, I just got the Exception raised error. Before we make anymore changes, do you know what causes these errors?

ohayitstiffanay
26th Mar 2012, 05:56 AM
Still getting the blockades, as of right now my dog can't get into my house and we can't leave.

Also just got an error in CAS.

Ahem! the Windows Exception report is as useful as WinXP on an iPad.No one knows how to correct these Exception Raised errors permanently as yet. Have you done a reinstall with all the Preferences and caches cleared (if they exist)? If we're still hung up on the "lost discs" excuse, I don't think we can properly troubleshoot if we cannot rule out the Program Data being corrupted. As we need to strike it out as "things we've ruled out" by doing a clean install and a clean re-patch.

And let's try to bypass Launcher - you see that sticky on Page #1 with the title "[Tip] Bypassing the launcher under OS X"? Why don't you do that?

I think we need to see what you mean by this "blockades", "Pet idle errors keep showing up on the floor" and "black balls"? Pictures would help.
Is this still a new game you just started yesterday, not one of your prior Saves and still CC-free aka vanilla? In Sunset Valley or Appaloosa Plains? What default EA Household are you playing? And what Sim day did this start occurring on so I can try to replicate this in my game. ie how many Sim weeks is this new, vanilla Save at this point?

OK, forget this next bit, I forgot my resolve on taking mini-steps for a minute. Let's see how you answer the above questions first.
Does this affect only Pet Dogs? Cats and Horses are fine? Is the dog owned or adopted? Adopted from the Pet Center or a stray? And this black balls of doom also do not occur for the minor pets like raccoon, etc?

The missing disc thing is a problem, I don't have most of them.

I have Generations (Disc and code), Base game code only, world adventures code, ambitions code, Pets Disc, and all of Late Night.

There was an unfortunate mixup at my house when I moved and a few of my boxes got misplaced and even thrown away and i'm almost positive it where the majority of my games where.

My friend has a lot of my games in her origin because she has a PC and origin doesn't work on macs though.

As for the blockades, I am not playing on a vanilla game, as I was going to rule out if it was the problem with the new Sims 3 backup in place. Now that it could possibly be the case, I'll start a new game, CC free. Do I have to delete the one I'm in right now? I have so much progress. >__< I am playing in Bridgeport, and I was living in a Custom house from mysims3blog.blogspot.com.

& All animals make the blockades happen, especially strays. My dog seems to be fine now, but she's still leaving behind idles for some reason, but at least she's not glitching.

I will start a Vanilla game, and let everyone know. Even though I ruled out in an older game that CC wasn't the problem cause I still got the exception message. But I have one question first, what would CC have to do with these pet idles or error codes?

So far, everything's been okay with the vanilla game, it's so............. vanilla. >__<

It's very slow and choppy though, with moments and whatnot.

However, I removed my mods folder from the file, and uninstalled all the sim3pack files, and removed saved sims, and there's still one custom hair and skin tone. o-o

So what do we do to get my CC back into the game, assuming I have some bad CC. Do i just download everything back, but read everything super carefully about interfering cores and all that? Or are we going to do something else?

going to slowly add some cc right now, none through the launcher to see if that's maybe the problem.

edit: random crash. I only added 3 hairs and 3 outfits. No error messages or idles though.

OMFG! Are you freaking kidding me?
What's with post#23's "I will start a Vanilla game"?
What do post#18's "everything went pretty well, i'll have to see how it goes tomorrow" and post#20's "That might've actually done the trick!" mean then? They are not on clean user files?

For the Discs issue - that is something only you can hash out with EA, nothing we can do for you here. If you do not want to mess with EA's customer support and submit prove of purchase and get replacement discs for a fee, then, like Pescado would say - "That sounds like a personal problem, soldier!" Don't want to ask EA? Stop whining about it, go out and get replacement disks yourself and be done with it. Case CLOSED! Jeez!

And we are not doing anything!
