View Full Version : CC not loading no matter what

I did everything on this page (http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Installing_Sims_3_Package_Files/Setup_and_Files) to the letter and even the example files aren't working.

Base game only, updated to version 1.33.2.015001, says I'm up to date on everything.

I seem to remember having this problem when I installed the game the first time! But I can't remember what fixed it.

See, I had to uninstall/reinstall because it started refusing to load, telling me that I'd deleted an expansion pack. But I never had any expansion packs, so it made no sense. I saved my CC last night and uninstalled/reinstalled, but putting the CC back in didn't do anything--it's still gone from my sims. Yet I have things like custom houses and worlds!

A big issue here is that my sims will show normally in the preview pictures under "pre-made sims", but when I click on them to bring them up, their custom hair will turn into something else (always brown for some reason). Yet their preview picture remains the same, displaying the custom hair!

How in the world is this going on? Why won't my content load? Or rather why does some load and not others?

Should I eschew the whole "mods" folder and just put everything under "downloads"?

Right now, even though I only just reloaded and have only added the "frameworksetup" file from this site, now my folder is full of...odd things. I'll list them

Collections (folder)
ContentPatch (folder)
CurrentGame.sims3 (folder)
CustomMusic (folder)
DCBackup (folder)
DCCache (folder)
Downloads (folder)
FeaturedItems (folder)
IGACache (folder)
SavedOutfits (folder)
Saves (folder)
SigsCache (folder)
Thumbnails (folder)
CASPartCache.package
compositorCache.package
DeviceConfig (text document)
Options (configuration settings)
scriptCache.package
simCompositorCache.package
Sims3LauncherLogFile (text document)
Sims3Logs (XML document)
socialCache.package
tslus (VLC media file/.bin)
Version.tag
FrameworkSetup (folder)
Exports (folder)
InstalledWorlds (folder)
Recorded Videos (folder)
Screenshots (folder)
FrameworkSetup.zip

And I swear most of those just...popped into being because when I reloaded to begin with there were only about five or six folders.

All this, following the instructions to the letter, and all it says is "if it doesn't work you must have done something wrong"!

Sims 3 - Installing Custom Content
You appear to not have read our great guides to downloading and installing custom content for Sims 3.

Game_Help:TS3_Custom_Content This link contains everything you've ever wanted to know about installing .package and sims3packs.

You probably need to re-read all the CC installation FAQs. What are you trying to install exactly? If .package CC, they won't work without a "Mods" folder. And they won't work in "Downloads" folder either. I don't see a Mods folder in your list. Didn't you compare your folder setup to the photos on the "Setup" FAQ page? The very one you linked to above.

Here's another FAQ: Game_Help:GCCTSU3_Start and this one explains all those folders and files that pop-up Game Help:TS3 User Folders Explained.

Yes, of course I did. And I read all of those and followed them--as I said a couple of times in the post. Mods is under FrameworkSetup, as it is in the link I got it from and cited in the post. Should I make it a top-level folder? Because it doesn't come as one from this very site.

Cut and paste the Mods folder from the FrameworkSetup.zip into the My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\ folder, so you have Mods alongside that list you gave. Perhaps when you extracted it, you chose "Extract to \FrameworkSetup" as many extractor programs have as an option (vs. "extract here") or maybe your extractor program has some settings that automatically extract to a folder named for the file. In any case, if you have our FrameworkSetup files, a simple copy-pasta should fix it. :)

Ah! Thank you! And...yeah, it just said "extract here" and that's what it gave me. It didn't say anything about Mods having to be top-level, just asked if those two folders were there. It should probably mention something on the page about that, because I followed the directions that were there.

Well, it does actually kinda say that here (http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Installing_Sims_3_Package_Files/Setup_and_Files) in the step 3 - it says a new folder called Mods should appear, and shows a screenshot of it, and also mentions the folder path in step 4. Those paths and screenshots are there so you can double-check them against what you have, and if anything is different, you'll know something went wonky. :)

Yeah, that folder did appear...as a subfolder of the other one. And I was following everything. It didn't say anything about having to make it a top level one to make it work.

Uuuuugh I've been at this for about 18 hours JUST trying to make that ONE THING work!

It does have a very clear image:

Do you have it working now?
