Well I was hoping I'd figure this out myself but I could really use some help.

I have a problem turning this new outfit Showtime came with into a top, I've done it before with Master Suite Stuff's Romantic boyfriend shirt, but that only required erasing the shorts part and recategorising...
I tried this (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=397088) tutorial but I'd add the new mesh, edit the dds and save as package [using CTU : p] but every time I do so an error would occur saying if I click continue the program will try to ignore it or quit to close the program and after I click continue the package will still be saved but would be empty
I think I'm doing something wrong because the 3D preview in CTU would have the shorts removed but will still have the texture or what ever its called...

SO. I tried what I did with the MSS shirt, just edited the dds's to remove the shorts, well that worked, sort of.. but I don't like that the shorts texture still show through pants.

I'm just here because I am hoping someone has done this successfully before and would like to point out what I could have done wrong or have not done/skipped.
I just don't want to drop this like I do with everything else. Any kind of help would be much appreciated.

Looks to me like the bump map from the shorts is showing. The bump map has to be replaced when you import the mesh - if you don't have a blank one I can upload one later.

No idea what's causing the CTU error, though. Is this only happening when you import the mesh? Can you post a screenshot of the mesh import screen?

And if the bumpmap of the fullbody shows it means you recategorized the fullbody as top.
Always start with a basegame top when creating a top to avoid problems, then import mesh and textures.
Besides the bumpmap the outfit also still uses the fullbody part mask.

ah, okay well I started over, it worked. I forgot about the morphs though so i'll have to learn that later..

what causes this though?

That looks like part of the top mesh is mapped to a part of the texture used by the trousers - the game combines all the textures for top, trousers, shoes etc. into one, so if the textures overlap, one of them (in this case the top) will end up hidden beneath the other.

As white says, it happens alot when trying to convert fullbody to top.
You have to pull up the uvcoordinates of the lower part on the uvmap and do the same with the textures.
Or find a way/setting so tops overrule bottoms but you could end up with top textures on bottoms then.....
