How can I change the camera resolution?

I have all my graphics settings set to high-quality. Setting the video quality to high will only record in 640x480. My computer's resolution is 1920x1080, so I want to find out how to record Sims videos in 1280x720. Is there a way to do this? I want to record TS2 videos in widescreen, not 4:3 like it is on High quality. (And yes, my Sims resolution is set to 1280x720.)
The limit on the camera settings for TS2 are just not good enough for me, so I'm trying to find a way to record 16:9 resolutions. Is it at all possible to record in higher resolutions than 640x480?

You need to use an external program - I know a few which do screenshots, but I've forgotten all the good video ones. Googling "desktop recorder" or something like that should send you in the right direction. :)

Fraps is a good choice. Works very well for recording games.
