View Full Version : Create A World - Routing Issues

So..... I've been working on a world for the last few months, and the only thing that is keeping this thing from being playable, are some routing issues I am having.

-I painted the entire world (except for roads, lots, and a few other select areas) as "Sim Unroutable".

-I made sure all of my roads/intersections were properly connected.

-I checked the slope of all of my roads.

-I rebuilt the routing data.

This seemed to fix 90% of my problems...
There are a few parts in the town where sims wont drive. They will drive almost completely to a destination, and then skip ahead/teleport to the destination at the very end.

I have one neighborhood up on a hill where your sim will get into their car, but it will skip to the bottom of the hill and continue driving.
This is so annoying.

Help!!!

This should help you:

For the places with the road problems, what does the routing look like? Perhaps you could show a screenshot with the routing visible, like this one:

It shouldn't be necessary to paint the entire world as unroutable; surely you want your sims to be able to go hunting for collectables? Make sure that you don't have anything your sims can interact with, such as a spawner or a bench, on an unroutable area.

Would you be willing to download the world?
I think that would be the best way to show you what is going on with it.

The world is empty, and will have some missing CC for you, but that shouldn't make any difference.

Take any sim > buy a lot and move in > place a car on the lot > now try to drive around the town, to the different ends of the island.

Sometimes the car will drive perfectly on the way there, and do the teleport thing on the way back, or visa versa..

Thank you so much for the help!
I really just want this to work, so I can start building, and upload to MTS :)

Downloading the world itself is a really inefficient way for me to diagnose the problem with the world. I cannot view the routing data in-game. Better would be to see the CAW files, or better still- for you to post the images I asked for on the forum, so that I (and others) can take a look.

OK, after a little break from this project (much needed), and a beer (also needed), I've opened up this CAW file and am back to the drawing board.

Out of curiosity, I tried: Deleting the problem roads, rebuilt them, made sure the grade was nice and smooth, and rerouted the world.
Still did not fix the issue.

I'll post the pics shortly.

I REALLY appreciate your help with this!
I have spent so much time on this world, I really dont want to trash it and start over.
AND, I've read all of your posts to others about routing, so I really cant figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks again,
Simoleon

After looking at the routing data further, I think I've located a few of the issues:

Photo 1 - This area is a windy road going uphill - the sims wont drive on this at all. They drive up to it, and teleport the rest of the way to their destination.. Going to, or from.

Photo 2 - This area is similar, as you can see from the routing info, however the sims seem to drive around this one perfectly... ? So, I'm unsure as to why this area works, but the others dont.

Photo 3 - This area below is a downtown area, and the area above is where the wealthy sims would live. You have to drive around the mountain to get to this neighborhood. Sims will drive to these homes perfectly, but will teleport on their way back. I'm totally boggled as to why it works going one way, but never works going the other way...?

Photo 4 - This is a zoomed in area of the rich neighborhood mentioned above, should you want to see the routing data closer.

Have you tried fixing those empty routable patches? I see one on the road where it bends (not the corner).

Hey, I appreciate the suggestion!

How exactly do I go about "fixing" this routing information?

In an attempt to fix this, I did the following:

I deleted the road.
Erased all of the routing data.
Rebuilt the routing data.
Added a new road.
Repainted the routing data.
Rebuilt the routing data.

Still gives me the same results as before.

So, what steps should I take to fix those problem areas?

Also, does the game really care about the road grade at all?
I noticed that the majority of this is happening in areas where the road grade changes frequently (I love hilly roads!).

There are a few parts of the town that are far more steep, but they work perfectly....

(is there an emoticon for putting a finger-gun to your head?)

In the 1st pic, it looks like the bend in the upper portion of the pic is not connected, it is not showing blue or green. As for the rest, they look okay to me. I have only had the teleport thing happen when I don't connect a bridge properly. Are there any bridges right below??

Have you determined where your sims are getting stuck.? One of Twallan's tools is ideal for finding areas where sims get stuck. That would seem to be a good starting point.

Have you got any further with this, Simoleon Real Estate?

Still stuck -

Honestly, I gave up on this town for a minute - I just got so frustrated.
I think what I'm going to do is just get rid of those neighborhoods, and move on.

Will keep you posted.

I haven't seen you doing anything with the terrain tools? I have very steep pathways too. I had to work a lot with up and down clicking, even out terrain and even out road surface. Lots of fiddly work, but I got there in the end.

If you want to upload the CAW files, I could take a look to see if I can see anything obvious. PM me a link, if you don't want to post it publicly.

Im going to pm you a link to the download.
I just want to clean up a few things before I send it to you.

I greatly appreciate you offering to help!

Simsample - I'm going to send you the file still.
Just did an update, and now my game is quite glitchy.
I have to wait until the next patch to clean things up and send it to you.
It may be a few weeks, but I'll send it - would love your help.

If your roads work going one way, but not the other, have you tried removing objects on the not working side of the road? For example maybe there is a tree to close to the road.
