What is the antecedent of "it" here? Are you talking about her mood indicator, or her class progress bar?

If this is your first time in University, the operation of the class progress bar may not be intuitively obvious. See that little line not quite midway up? The performance bar will be empty till you do something to fill it. The fill color will be red until she has enough work under her belt - going to class, writing the term paper, doing assignments, etc. - to pass that little line, at which point it will turn platinum. If the bar is red when finals come up, she will fail; if it's platinum, she'll pass, with different grades depending on how full the bar got. If you don't have all the skills indicated for that semester you can't get the A+.

Now, normally the term paper takes you to platinum; but there's two exceptions to this. One is, that you don't have enough of the requisite skills, in which case there was no point doing the term paper. You can't progress further than the closed segment of the bar until you've fulfilled at least one of the skill requirements.

The second is, that Amy is infected with a modest and non-fatal glitch that causes the progress bar to stick at the lowest level despite all you do. The upper levels don't unlock with the acquisition of the requisite skills and no amount of studying will change that. The good news is, this is only cosmetic - the game recognizes the student's level of progress, it just won't give you accurate information on this. As long as you get all the requisite skills (which are still accurately indicated) and do at least one assignment or attend at least one class, Amy will pass. If you want to dean's list, get her the requisite skills, send her to class, and have her write a term paper, and you've got it locked. If you want her to have the possibility of having a lower grade, or goof off all semester and cram just enough to pass on the last night, or whatever, it's a problem.

Almost everybody I've ever had with this glitch was cured by moving into a different residence. My Bright Household's original residence appeared to be infested with it, as almost everybody who ever lived there got it; ditto my big dorm. A few people retained the bug after they moved, but they didn't infect anybody else with it, and I haven't had it since closing those residences.

I've heard it's a graphics thing. Try moving her to another lot, that often works for me.
