:here: Concept:
The idea here is to make a Sim Scrapbook. Contestants will create a family within the guidelines and then take photos of them at 5 specific Life Events and scrapbook it all together as their entries.

:here: Qualifications to Host:
Judged the MTS TS2 Calendar Contest (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=462106). Winner of wgroome’s Foundation Challenge Contest (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=469141).

:here: Rules:
This is a TS2 only contest.
There will be no eliminations, but only proficient applications will be accepted.
CC is allowed as long as it is good and the feel of the photo is still maxis/cartoon opposed to realistic. Examples: obviously photoskinned clothes will lose you points, as will poorly made/textured/blocky objects.
Photoshopping is very much required. This contest is about how well you can digitally scrapbook.
For our contest, a ‘page’ is a 954px square of color or pattern. An ‘image’ is the actual picture file. All pages must be 954px square. Posted images may be 954px square or 1024px square with an even border of white space. (This allows for a 35 pixel width border all around the image.) If you have trouble with the sizes, I've created templates (http://www.modthesims.info/showpost.php?p=3851334&postcount=68) you can work from. DO NOT change the size of the template.
Please attach your images to your post instead of using an image hosting site like tinypic or photobucket. Judges please attach your images as well, but do not include inline versions.
Please attach all your scrapbook pages in your application post. That will make it easy for everyone to view your entire 'book' all in one go. :)
Please remember to take your time and not submit anything till next Friday if you want bonus points. You are allowed to edit your entry as much as you want, but when scoring bonuses we will base on the time stamp of your last edit, not the original post.

:here: Timeline
Each round will be 2 weeks long.
This is a long but fast paced contest. Please consider if you will have time for it. For each round, you will likely need 1 afternoon to take photos (2 to 6) and another 1 or 2 afternoons to compose your 2 pages. I personally can do this all in one very long afternoon/evening, but I'm a Design student who uses Photoshop like its her job (cuz it kinda is), so your mileage may vary.
Entries are due by Sundays at Midnight EST (http://www.timeanddate.com/counters/customcounter.html?msg=Wedding+Round+and+Applications+are+Due&month=05&day=28&year=2012&hour=00&min=00&sec=00&p0=414) (You have all day Sunday)

:here: Application Round Requirements:
Judge a Book by its Cover: For the application stage, you need to prove you can take a decent photo and do some basic image manipulation. You will be submitting a ‘scrapbook cover’.
Tell me what image editing program you use and how comfortable you are with it (just downloaded it today / can do some cool stuff / use it professional / etc.). I also need to know your family's last name. It should consist of a bright (but not blinding) background color with a book binding down the left hand side. Choose carefully, because you will need to continue using the book binding for the rest of your pages. For the cover only you may disregard the maximum widths to include extra space for your book binding. (See how mine is wider than it is tall?) It can not be smaller than the required sizes, we still need to be able to see your photo! You still must attach your photo fullsized like mine. Place a photo of your two starter sims, and some words along the lines of ‘Our Family Memories’. Make it look nice, as it will be setting the tone for the rest of your pages. Keep in mind things like image borders, word plaques, and nice fonts. You will not receive a score for this page, but it will be judged on whether you are qualified for this contest based on the same things as the rest of the pages.
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/1/0/5/2/6/7/5/MTS_Phaenoh-1290063-ScrapbookCover.jpg

:here: Round Requirements:
For each round, each contestant will provide 2 sims scrapbook pages based on that round’s theme. At the announcement of each rounds theme, I will provide my own ‘entry’, for you to see as an example. Do not forget to include your binding on the inside edges of each page. Use the same background color/pattern for both pages. It is recommended to use no more than 3 images per page, but there must be at least 1 image on each page. Include words (journaling), and lots of other bits and bobs that fit with your photos and the theme. Get creative!

Contestants should start with 2 unmarried sweetheart sims. This contest will create for them a scrapbook of their future family. They will, in the course of the contest, have at least one child. You must use the same family the entire time, but not every family member needs to be in every photo or page spread. Grandparents might be handy to have, but are not required. You may use one of your preexisting families that you’ve been taking hundreds of photos for your legacys or whatnots. This is actually recommended because of the fast pace of this contest. However, if you don’t have photos for one of the themes you will be in a pretty tricky spot and need to think of a way to fake them if the family is no longer available or at those life stages. My examples will be from one of my own preexisting families, and I don’t have nearly all the photos I’ll be requiring either, yet. I don’t have baby photos of all those kids (shocking, I know!) There are no extra points awarded for being clever with the family makeup. Two gay sims having a kid is just as fine as a traditional nuclear family. Now, if one of them gets abducted for the baby photos, that might earn points just for being an interesting photo. Likewise aliens/supernaturals will not have favoritism, and on the contrary, will actually make your color palette harder to work with. I’m going to have a tough time with my colors because half of my family members have green skin. Red will just look like Christmas :/ A few Life Events may sound like they require an EP, but this is just a photo contest, so get a little creative and you will find you do not need the EP after all. This contest can be done with only a BaseGame setup.

:here: Round 1 *Wedding*:
Start planning your weddings! Hire a GOOD wedding photographer. Officially you need at least 2 photos, but you may have up to 6 to put on 2 pages. Be creative with it! Everyone will likely have that nice shot of the first kiss, but what about other wedding traditions, like the cake, throwing the bouquet, best man's toast, the flowergirl and ring boy. The mini theme for this round is their Honeymoon. Take them someplace exciting before kids ruin everything! ;)
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa210/Phaenoh/Sims/ScrapbookWedding.jpg

:here: Round 2 *Baby*:
And the next theme is..... BABY! Officially "And Baby Makes Three (or More)". I need two pages showcasing your family becoming a family. Some interesting ideas for shots include mom being pregnant and belly rubs, actually giving birth (faked to look like a hospital, I don't want to see any of the typical birth animations plz), dad being proud, grandparents looking on, whatevs, make it cute! Here are two hospitals that have birthing suites: sunni's Mercy Hospital and my Apox Hood Hospital. The mini theme for this round (optional to complete) is "Firsts". This should be pictures of baby's first words, first steps, first time sitting up, rolling over, whatever you can think of. Photos can range from this child being an infant up to a toddler. Don't age them up to kids in these spreads.
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa210/Phaenoh/Sims/ScrapbookBabies.jpg

:here: Round 3 *Vacation*:
Round three will be a Vacation spread. Send your family out to have some fun in a strange new place! Your kids should be child-aged at this point. If you don't have BV, then send find a cool community lot to have a grill-out, or go to a really cool looking pool/water park place. You don't need to go all the way to Takemizu for this. The bonus spread for this week is Holiday. I'm American and I'm using the American versions of these words, a Vacation is when you go someplace, a Holiday is a date on the calendar that you celebrate. Any holidays are acceptable, but there needs to be a change of weather between the two. If you go to the beach for vaca, then it needs to be a snowy winter holiday. Or, going skiing for vacation, and celebrating the Fourth of July.
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa210/Phaenoh/Sims/ScrapbookVacation.jpg

:here: Round 4 *Birthday*:
Kids just grow up so fast don't they? This round I need you to throw one of your kids a birthday party! This should be their Child/Teen birthday, so invite lots of kids over and have lots of child-friendly activities going on. I don't actually want to see many teenagers at the party cuz it's kinda weird how they suddenly grow 3 feet taller and are now 'so much cooler'. We are pretending that it's their 12th-ish birthday, they are still kids - give them a bouncy house and hire a clown to do balloon animals before they are suddenly too embarrassed to be seen with you. The bonus round for this one comes a little out of order, you'd have to do it before the main spread. It's the first day of school. There should be lots of nice September scenery and cute back-to-school outfits. As long as you have one spread in on that Friday/Saturday/Sunday that I award extra points for, it doesn't matter which spread you have up - you still get the points for it. After you are done with this round, get your kids about half way though their teen years.

http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa210/Phaenoh/Sims/ScrapbookPagesBirthday.jpg

:here: Round 5 *Graduation*:
Our final round is the kids' graduation! Like the round before, the mini-theme comes first. You can't graduate high school without going to Prom! Well, technically you can, but it isn't any fun. You can choose whether your kids are graduating high school or university/college. I wanted my teens to graduate high school because I wasn't ready to breeze them through college. And that's why this is late, I spent most of my day doing age conversions from the Uni grad wear to teens - and I'll be uploading that soon for you all to use as well. Anyways, find your teen a sweetheart, buy her a dress or rent him a tux, and send them to the dance! Usually these dances take place in a decorated gym or cafeteria, but my senior prom was at a University Ballroom that my class rented. Now, it's not just a dance. Most Proms have an 'after-prom' and an 'after-party'. My after-prom was Casino Royale themed, we had fun pretending to be James Bonds and secret agents all dressed up fancy playing Texas Hold'em. Our after-party was a three hour bus ride to an amusement park, beginning at 6am after a completely sleepless night for all of us. Sleep deprived roller coasters are an interesting experience to be sure. I'll have my pages up some time tomorrow, as well as the teen hats and gowns for you. It's 5am - frack.

:here: Judges:
Judges will need to submit at least 2 examples of their own scrapbooking pages, either digital scrapbooking as we are doing here, or photos of real albums. This will provide everyone with good examples to start with and faith in our judges’ competency on the topic. They do not need to be sim scrapbooks for judges’ applications.
We will have 3 judges and an EJ. I will be one of the judges. Judges and their qualifications:

There will be 5 rounds and the contest winner will be the contestant with the score closest to 100 at the end of all five rounds.
Each round will have a main theme that all contestants much submit to. Each round will have a secondary theme as well that is completely optional to complete. Any contestant who submits to both themes may choose between their two spreads to be judged on.
Bonus Points! If a contestant submits a spread (to either theme) before the start of the second week, he or she will receive bonus points to be added back to that week’s score based on when their entries were submitted. No additional points will be given to anyone submitting before Friday of the first week, 1pt to Friday submitters, 2pts to Saturday submitters, and 1pt to Sunday submitters. This is to encourage everyone to take some time to work on their entries, but not to dawdle.
Late Submissions: Because this is a long contest and there isn't much time between rounds, if you miss a round, you are not disqualified. You may still submit pages for the round you missed, but late entries will be judged -1 for every day it is overdue, not to exceed -10. However, if you miss 2 rounds in a row, you will be disqualified. If you wish to drop out of the contest permanently, please let me know here or via PM. :)

:here: Contestant Links and Scores:
It's a requirement of the forum to have at least 10 contestants. Anyone wanting to contest their disqualifications need only to fix what is wrong and then post (or PM me) to let me know to check it. Otherwise, you can take it as a graceful way out of what will be a very long competition. No hard feelings. :)

All right everybody! Let's get too it! I need 2 more judges and an EJ, and 10 contestants. Step right up! I'd like this to be a fun and fast paced contest with a goal of having fun, who's with me?

As promised, here are 2 spreads from my own scrapbooks. The blue book is for a trip to the Bahamas with a (now ex) boyfriend, and the other is my high school senior year memory book.

Can I judge this? And if I need to apply scrapbooks, can they be sims 3 scrapbooks? I love the concept and the idea!

Are we allowed to use Maxis-made or kids of Maxis sims for our family, as long as they start out unmarried?

Phaenoh

Totally. You may use any family you want. They can even already be married as long as you have wedding photos or can fake up some ;) I was hoping you might join. I've really liked your past competition photos.

I would love to judge this contest! I love scrapbooking and I love the Sims! lol Here are a few of my digi-pages. I have non digi ones too, but as these were already on the computer, they were easiest ;)

Hope I pass the "test"! I really wanna be a judge on this one!

And we have our first judge!

If anyone out there is on the fence about joining because they are concerned they wont pass the application round, give it a shot anyways. I'm only looking for a very low level of image editing skill, just a tad more than it takes to make a photo collage. ;)

Hi, so this is the first contest im entering(ever)ive read over the rules and everything, but im still not clear on how to enter the contest or submit my entries. I know you are probably busy but could you please elaborate on those two things for me please :)

Sorry Phaenon, I thought I'd be able to join as a judge, but unfortunately I'm not going to due to some complications. I will surely follow this contest and hopefully it will have a great success =)

waterjay, sorry to hear that. Hope things get less complicated for you soon!

aUserName, please edit your post to attach your photo (click Go Advanced when posting), and at the full size mentioned above. From what I can see from squinting at your image ;) , we have our first contestant! Also, what is your family's last name?

Olynicole1234, make a picture like aUserName and I did and post the image here. That's all it is!

also, Jones, and anyone else applying as judges, can you please only attach the images in your post but not put them inline? It makes it easier to load the page and scroll. :)

Sorry, I didn’t realize that the image size requirements applied to the application round. The attached family picture is slightly different from the one shown in my post, since the one in my post was too blurry at this size. It’s almost identical though.

My family is named Andson.

And we have our second contestant! aUserName and OlyNicole, please fix your image sizes and reattach them (using attach images). Contestants should do inline images and have them nice and big! The purpose of the application round is to prove you can follow the rules and provide a crisp image at that size. Please figure that stuff out now before the first round where points WILL be taken off for it. I want everyone to do well in this contest! :)

Ok, I think the image meets the requirements now. I had to reduce the quality of the image to attach it, but I think it still looks clear.

aUserName, good job. The image is the right size now, you've got some time to figure out how to 'Save for Web' so you can have large lightweight images. Its interesting how your family photo stayed crisp while everything else went really blurry. It is possible (mine is proof) you just need to play around with it a bit till you figure out all your settings.

Come on you lurkers, I know you are there. ;) We need more contestants! Take that leap!

I believe Phae was just using "photoshop" as a general term. I don't have it either, there are plenty of decent free photo editing programs out there.

The Burns Family
Hi!!! My name is Lilly Burns (formerly Blue). Me and my sister Lucie moved to Pleasant view when we were 17 years old (we are twins b.t.w) anyway this is our scrapbook and watch how the story unfolds
http://i49.tinypic.com/z50sl.jpg

When i was 19 years old attending Sim State University i accidently fell into a fountain and was soaked. Everyone laughed at me excepted one person. He came over and helped me up. He introduced himself and said his name was Shane Burns. I came close friends with him and one night at a college party we both were drunk and we ended up kissing. After that we started dating and then he proposed. And this was our wedding.

I looked at your post and you already have attached the image.

I resized my image with a photo editing software. I’m not sure, but I think you have to use an external software to get it exactly the right size.

Phaenoh
6th May 2012, 2:56 AM
You can't resize your image through MTS, you must use an image editing software (photoshop, gimp, paintshop pro) to do that, but its preferable to just create the image at the right size to begin with. The Image Upload button is what you need to do. :) btw, what's your family's last name?

It doesn't matter what program you are using, a pixel is still a pixel. ;) The page needs to be 954 pixels tall and at least that wide. Try to find a 'Save for Web' option when you are saving your images so they can be nice and big and crisp while still having a small file size.

Come one everyone, we only have 1 week left to get another 7 applications in or we can't hold the contest! Join today! :)

For some reason I can't get the image to attach to the post - I've tried 4 different file sizes (from 227KB down to 181KB) and keep getting "Server (IO) Error".

This has happened before and is driving me insane; I can manage an inline image no problem, but if I can't attach the image as well then I might as well give up now...

Keep trying Selly, post an inline from another hosting site for now till you get it straightened out. MTS has both pixel size and image size restrictions so you have to be very careful you are following my guidelines perfectly. Sometimes there are just site gremlins, so try again later. I wouldn't dock you for something not in your control if you were trying to comply. ;) I can't wait to see your entry. :)

((Please note that I'm using the British terms when talking as Cherry - we don't use the words "diaper" or "vacation"))

Hi there! I'm Cherry Appleby, grand-daughter of neighbourhood founder Acacia. I've always been creative, faffing about as a kid with Mum's easel (think it was Gran's as well, but she died long before I was born), so making a scrapbook seemed to come naturally. Course, being the heiress to the family legacy I'm pretty busy anyway, but I find this type of stuff therapeutic.

After playing with ribbons, fabric and pics I found in magazines (okay, I didn't cut the cherry out very carefully), I got a cover I was happy with:
http://thumbs2.modthesims.info/img/3/6/0/7/7/9/4/MTS_Selly_2009-1294938-Scrapbook1aEdit.jpg

Mum found my new husband for me while working at her shop - I was too shy to talk to most guys and flirting was the last thing on my mind! Aubrey Pratt caught her eye, and it wasn't long before she brought him back with her to meet me. I found him enchanting, and was overjoyed when he eventually popped the question. It was inevitable that I'd document it this way:

http://i365.photobucket.com/albums/oo92/Weaselly2009/ScrapbookWeddingPagesInline3.jpg

I'm not sure who was the most excited when we discovered I was pregnant. Aubrey loved to feel the baby kick, while Dad went all gooey, chatting in baby-talk to my bump as often as I'd let him! Mum felt certain we were having a girl; Dad reckoned "that's a lil footballer you've got there!" (his words, not mine!). As for me, I didn't mind as long as the child was healthy.
Baby Daisy was in no hurry to be born - I had to wait a week past my due date before she finally arrived! Course, once labour started I expected it to take hours, but no - Mum told me that this baby wasn't going to wait for us to get to the hospital and that I should be prepared for a home birth...
While I recovered from the birth itself, Aubrey got busy with the same Polaroid camera Mum had used to document the "bump months" as she'd referred to them, taking snaps of Daisy left, right and centre!
Anyway, in between feeds, nappy changes and the discovery that we're expecting another (yes, I'm pregnant again!), I somehow managed to find time to document our first-born's first moments of life in our arms:

http://i365.photobucket.com/albums/oo92/Weaselly2009/ScrapbookBabyPagesInline2.jpg

Having twins only a year after Daisy was born meant a lot of hard work, and I was glad that my parents were still around and able to help out. Or so I thought. Dad died when Daisy was just two, leaving us feeling the strain. When his will was read, we learnt that not only were we inheriting some money, Dad had decreed we should spend a chunk of it on a well-earned holiday when the kids were old enough - he knew we'd need one!
When the twins (Dawn and Declan) turned five, we booked the plane for an autumnal camping trip high in the mountains. Daisy was super-excited - she'd heard rumours that Bigfoots (Bigfeet?) lived in remote places like that, and was hoping to meet one. The twins caught her enthusiasm, and Aubrey managed to find a map that might just lead us to the right place...
It worked - we did meet this Bigfoot fellow, a gentle giant if ever there was one, but he was a shy type and refused to pose for the camera! Still, with plenty of other holiday snaps and a large pile of autumn leaves Daisy and I put together our next scrapbook pages. She begged to be allowed to write the captions for the pictures, so while I did the one for the campfire shot, I let her do the second page:

http://oi50.tinypic.com/21ce62v.jpg

Daisy's first day at school was actually before our holiday, but with various other commitments we didn't get round to making our scrapbook pages until a good while afterwards. She was enrolled at Orchard Primary, a single-storey red-brick building in the heart of the neighbourhood. In the new burgundy blazer, crimson jumper and tartan skirt that constituted the uniform, she looked extremely grown-up. However, I'm not sure who was the more nervous when we got to the school gates!

http://oi48.tinypic.com/28cesnq.jpg

Seven years have passed since that awkward first school day, and it's now time for Daisy's 13th birthday! She wanted to go bowling for her party, so I rang ahead and booked the alley for it. The staff did us proud: balloons in her favourite colours down the alley and attached to the party chairs, a superb buffet tea and a beautiful cake with 13 pink candles. I would've liked to have taken better photographs, but we got the important bits.
I let Daisy do the pages on her own; she's old enough now to know her own style and what colours she wants to use. Luckily we're pretty similar with certain aspects!

http://oi46.tinypic.com/2usa2zb.jpg

Where did the time go?! Another five years has whipped by, and Daisy turned 18 two months ago! She's just completed her A-Level courses, which means cue the Sixth Form Prom! The evening knees-up took place at Pine Lake Hotel, and by all accounts was "supremely awesome" - I'm guessing that a good time was had by all. I did hear on the school grapevine that Daisy's date Ganymede came home with lipstick on his collar, so I was looking forward to seeing the Prom photos... when I saw Daisy's finished scrapbook page all became clear:

http://oi46.tinypic.com/dpgx8g.jpg

The results are in! Daisy did extremely well, gaining 2 As and 2 Bs in her A-Levels. Needless to say, Aubrey and I are super-proud of her! Time for her formal Graduation ceremony, along with the rest of her class:

http://oi48.tinypic.com/348j0rd.jpg

N.B. For Round 5, please judge the GRADUATION pages. Although I like the photos used for the Prom pages more, I'm happier with the overall design of the Graduation ones.

The Server (IO) message is a connection error, e.g. you got disconnected from the server while your pic was uploading. As such, it's pretty hard to fix yourself, except by waiting until the connection between you and the server is a bit more reliable. :)

I like it when my judges help answer questions and participate in the thread. Makes me seem less like a control-freak. Keep helping me out jones, it's very much appreciated! :)

Olynicole, no sorry, its still very small. See how big my image is? Your's needs to be that big too. Please keep trying under your first post instead of making a new post for it, cuz then I have to change my table >.<

Selly, keep trying. I put the attachment requirement up there because I hate looking through old contests and seeing nothing but 'Image No Longer Available' because they were hosted somewhere else. If it came down between the image size or the attachment requirement, I'd rather have correct sized images. Small ones are just too hard to see!

leah, thank you for fixing your image size. You are good to go now!

Wow, this looks exciting! Just a quick Q for ya ;) Would it be appropriate to create a wedding style scrapbook, that my newlywed Sims could have been given as a gift to fill with memories of married life? I just have this idea in mind, but I don't want to do anything I will regret later in the competition! So I'm just wondering if that style is the way to approach this? Thanks! :D

It depends on how far into the future a wedding style scrapbook would go normally. This contest is going to span about 10 to 20 years for a family, watching at least one child grow up. I don't think it would be something that wouldn't work, but we aren't just focusing on the two starting sims. Your call. ;) Can't wait to see your entry!

leah, I don't actually know. I would say yes, as long as they are different families and your two scrapbooks are very different. But will you be able to do twice the amount of work as everyone else and keep it up to quality? Would you be able to do them all within the first week, I don't think the other contestants would appreciate missing out on their bonus points because you opted to have double the work. I'm going to let Heaven or beeps rule in on this one. I'm not sure if your second entry would count toward the 10 we need. If they say that it would count, and you think you can pull it off, I'd say yes.

Yes, you don't actually need to resize your image, you just need to set it up correctly in the first place. There should be some sort of 'Image Size' adjustment setting. Or, usually when you create a new file it asks you for the size you'd like it to be. Tell it that. If that doesn't work, let me know and I'll post a colored square that is already the right size and you can add your stuff on top of it. We'll figure it out, I don't want you to quit because your software is fighting you.

I'm a total n00b at this. Where do you get the template for the scrapbook layouts? Or do we have to make it ourselves? You are supposed to make it yourself. This contest is about design and image editing, but there is nothing that says you can't use a template. I do highly recommend you look at scrapbook pages and come up with an idea based off what you see. You can start with using a template and evolve your skills over the rounds if you don't feel ready to do it by yourself first. I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Olynicole, try to start with the right size image opposed to resizing it afterwards. That way you will keep your image quality.

Would everyone else considering putting a link to the contest into their signatures? We really need more people to join.

vhanster, I've placed no restrictions on the size limits of the photos themselves. I have made the page large enough though that most people's sim camera settings will take a photo that will fill a good bit of the middle, or your could place two images on a page (not for the cover though, one looks better here). The scrapbook page needs to be at least 954 square. You may go wider to add binding, and you can make the image file as large as 1024 by 1024 if you want to add white space around it so as to not cut off 3D elements (like I did with my bow). 1024 is the largest we can attach and upload at MTS, so thats where that came from.

Kisses, that is beautiful! We have our fifth contestant, the Pree Family. It's a little too small though, and it needs to be attached here. I'm going to add your name to the list, can you fix up your post for me? :)

We are officially half way there now! Keep them coming!

It's up to Phae if she will allow multiple entries for contestants. As she mentioned, you would need to be able to complete all the work without needing extensions or otherwise being unable to finish without extra accommodations.

However, I do not think counting second entries as part of the ten would be best. The contest will need to have ten different contestants and then, if allowed by Phaenoh, contestants could enter multiple times.

Phaenoh
9th May 2012, 4:50 PM
Thank you heaven, beeps also PMed me.
A contestant cannot enter twice into a contest to be considered two entries... if you allow them to post more than one entry/application, they would still only count as one contestant. It sounds like a double entries won't help us, and they will really only hurt the contestants, so I'm going to say no. No one is locked into their application until they submit for Round 1 though, so if you want to change or edit or completely switch gears, go ahead. I think that's actually what leah was asking about. :)

Would everyone else considering putting a link to the contest into their signatures? We really need more people to join.
Use this: http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=475093

I can, but I'm really not active in the forums, so...probably wouldn't do any good. I posted about it on FB, but I don't have any friends that are MTS members, and I think most play 3 only now. (I still go back and forth, but my 2 is a bit unstable, that's why I opted to judge)

*EDIT* I added it to my signature, I was forgetting that my signature is on uploads too.

Phae, I dunno if you saw this in chat; I would be absolutely honoured to judge, but I've not done scrapbooking since I was a kid, so I haven't got anything to submit as a "judge application", and I can't guarantee that I'll have enough time to make something up before the applications round is over. So, it's up to you whether you want to go for more qualified judges, or drop me in as EJ, or whatever. :)

white, we'd be honored to have you. *I* know you are qualified to judge, you've been judging my work for years! :P If you get us some reference photos by Sunday that would be nice, but don't worry about it if you can't. Do them when you can. Contests shouldn't be stressful things, I really don't want this to be like that. :)

Thank you to everyone sticking the link in their signatures and facebooks and twitters and whatnots; it would be a shame not to see this contest take off. I'm betting you are all looking forward to it as much as I am.

One of the things about the image size, once you have one that works (your application) you can easily work from that image to create the rest of your pages and you know they will be right. That's kinda why I'm pushing for people to fix stuff now, so we don't have to go through this each round. :)

porkypine, that's not cheating. Photoshop is what I'm using and its kinda the point of the contest. Cheating is when you find an online scrapbook automatic thingy and just submit what it spits out for you. Points won't be taken off for that specifically, but we could totally nail you for not having a design that relates well, or just isn't suck. :P Can't wait to see what you come up with!

ahahaha.. 'sweetheart sims'.. ol. Reminded me of 4th grade. Me and Jose - 4th grade 'love'. He'd grin, slug me on the arm and run away. I'd chase him and slug him back and laugh and run away, He'd chase me again and slug my arm. That happened all spring semester during recess. (Thank gooodness that stopped after 4th grade. It isn't a good romance model for adulthood! lol) and, after, 4th grade all the excitement went out of that romance and we never progressed to more adult versions of romance. or else, we just were exhausted from chasing each other all that spring.

Now, you KNOW I'll have to make a scrapbook using this idea! That 4th grade 'love' picture will be the image on the Sim family scrapbook. I don't know what the family name will be as of yet, I have to disguise the names to protect the guilty. :Pint: Ah! Title logo - Spring Fever!...... not sure of the family's name yet.

p.s. I finally got a new computer and all my software and games installed so I better not have any hardware problems like I was plagued with in the last few years on the old machine.

P.S. I have a question on the binding for every the inside pages. Normally you would not see the binding on the inside pages. Why are we including it in our scrapbook pages? For continuity? confuzeled...

porky, it really depends on the kind of binding you use. My book will just show binding shadows on the inside pages, but a spiral bound book will show the spirals on each page. Some ribbon binding shows on each page as well. It just depends on what you choose to use. See my photos of my actual scrapbooks, you can see the binding on the second one. ;)

leah, sounds fine to me, I think its pretty already. You do have a BUNCH of family members though, it seemed a bit intimidating. :faceslap:

Does anyone want me to create a blank page template so they get the image sizes right to start off with? I'll go ahead and do that.

Edit: I've attached your two different image sizes. Your scrapbook page is the blue area, and if you have 3D elements that are partially off the page, you can use the 3D version. Please don't submit a page with this exact color if you are using my template. You should use a color that works for your book. Your application page should be a little wider though, to include binding area.

And we have our 6th contestant, porkypine! Cute photo! If you are using Photoshop, there is a Save for Web option that seriously shrinks the file size. And when you are clicking Save As, a dialog box pops up asking for the quality and it tells you how many kbs each option is, go for the highest one under 250kb. I've uploaded images under as low as Medium-5 and its still be decent enough. Please attach the image to the post when you get it shrunk down. MYP deletes things periodically ;)

As far as the fasteners and stuff goes, usually finding a good quality photo taken from the top down on google isn't that hard to come by and it doesn't take much tweaking to get it to look right. And OMG those stars, pass the eye bleach please? :P Kiding, they aren't quite that bright. ;) Anyone else who feels rather shaky with their image programs, this contest will give you the chance to get better and explore them. I personally learned how to Photoshop by making stuff for MTS. Later my classmates eventually caught up with me and we've since surpassed those levels (hand painted shadows!!) But I owe my start to MTS. That's kinda one of the reasons for me hosting this contest, pay it forward? Anyways, keep the coming everyone! We've passed the halfway mark. We need 4 more in 3 days - can we do it!?

I realize you're very anti-3, Phae, but maybe you should have made it for either game. Might have been easier to get more entries. Oh, well. Here's hoping we get enough. I kinda feel bad I got called out as being anti-3, but I technically can't refute that. I'd rather see myself as pro-2. The social groups I'm in are about how awesome ts2 is rather than some of the groups that just hate on ts3, I'm not in those by choice. I had a reason for making it only ts2 though, the photos that come out of ts3 are freakin' fantastic, and this is basically a photo contest, so all ts3 people would get more points just because their photos have bloom, but their lighting sucks and that isn't there fault. The other reason is that since I don't play ts3, I don't want to set a round up that they just aren't able to do without a ton of CC. I'm totally 'playing along' as well, thats the majority of the reason I'll be providing 'sample' images for each round. ;) If you think you'd rather be a contestant feel free to switch, I don't DQ for missing a round, so if your game does get wonky you'll have time to fix it.

Yea! I got my cousin Ines interested in this contest. She likes to scrapbook for real and likes all that fru-fru stuff. :) She won't tell me what she's working on - she told me it was top secret. Trouble is she has dialup so she'll have to come over to upload her images at my house.. Yes, we live on the rez and our internet choices are dialup or satellite and satellite is too expensive for most people because they use their phones for facebook. I had to remind her that we don't have cell service in our district.

Since I am mostly incompetant at digital fingerpainting, can we get a head start on round 1? :P

... She better get over to my house tonight to upload. :luff:

Hey Croutinian... Wait to see if my cousin gets here and you might get to be # 8 :king:

Our Life Together

Mi familia wondered if I would ever find someone who appealed to me. The problem was that I am from Flores in the Azores. It is an island on the far west of the Nove Ilhas and all the young men my age who live close enough on the island are all my cousins one way or another. So there were no eligible men to marry. But my relatives always kept an eye out for eligible bachelors in hopes one might be acceptable to me. It is sometimes difficult when all your aunties and uncles and cousins are trying to match you up - they watch you like a hawk to see who you like so I am careful not to look too much at young men who I am not interested in. They have learned to just watch me to see who interests me, then they start their detective work to see if he is of good character.

One time my family took all of us by boat to a festival on Terciera, a bigger island. At the feast, I saw Rodrigo for the first time. We were both very shy and kept peeking at each other and turning away, only to take quick glances again. Of course, our relatives noticed that we liked each other so the families talked to make sure we weren't related one way or another. Rodrigo was from Santa Maria, a very tiny island several hundred miles to the east of my island but he had been living in the states with one of his uncles while attending university and had come home for the summer. Rodrigo's family hoped he would marry someone from the islands, someone who understood our culture and the importance of family. They were afraid that he might find some american girl while away at university and they'd never see him again.

After many discussions between our families, our families made arrangements for us meet and get to know each other to see if we liked each other. Rodrigo stayed with another family on Flores for the few days we met and got to know each other. We got along very well. However, Rodrigo had to go back to his family to help them with the family business. It takes a lot of work to arrange meetings like this because of the distances involved. We travel by boat to get from one island to the next. So we did not get to visit in person very often that summer. But we were able to speak by phone between visits. After that summer, Rodrigo went back to the states to finish his degree in Business Management. His family had hopes to set up an import/export business with Rodrigo holding the US office.

We missed each other so much! We spoke by phone but the long distance was so expensive that we could only speak once a week for a short while. Rodrigo came back after graduation and we were so happy to see each other again! Rodrigo proposed! We were engaged for a year while Rodrigo went back and forth between the Islands and the states setting up the business. It was off to a good start. The next spring, we had our lovely wedding. It even rained but the outdoor reception had a large covered awning to keep everyone dry. We had to retake some photos between showers.

http://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/t442/InesMarie2/Ines-wedding.jpg

I am a little scared yet excited to go on our Honeymoon! We are going to the states to live and that is even scarier! But we will be fine. Rodrigo is a good man.

We went to San Francisco. Our Honeymoon was so much fun! I was worried about his back when Rodrigo carried me all the way down the hall to our room. He said he was accustomed to carrying 100 lb sacks so I wasn't any problem. We had a wonderful dinner at a fine restaurant our first night.

We did so many things. I am not accustomed to large cities. Seeing so many people when I did not know any single person was new to me and a bit scary! Rodrigo took me dancing at the clubs and roller skating! My first time on skates! All they had was the old key type that you attach to your shoes. They did NOT work well with heels at all. I was so wobbly. We decided to do something else and come back some other time. We found a theater with live musicians. During the break, they invited people who could play to come on up. Rodrigo dragged me up to the stage. We had so much fun and were very popular (and made a lot of tips!) We ended our Honeymoon with a very nice tea ceremony at the trade center.

We moved into our new house just in time for the baby's arrival.

http://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/t442/InesMarie2/Ines-baby.jpg

We took an early winter vacation to the mountains, hoping to have snow for the children. We found a large cabin at a reasonable rate for 2 weeks. It was cold but didn't snow until the last day of our vacation.

Application: Greenman

The couple I chose consist of two of my Riverblossom Hills residents - Morley Greenman, son of a plant (Daisy) and wolf (Morty Roth) and Bithiah Gavigan, daughter of, uh...Nathan and Mary...!
Morley is into arts & crafts, so making a scrapbook is very much his kinda thang, so I present to you the Greenman family scrapbook, as from his POV.
Editing to add: Morley actually has no interest at all in gardening or nature...but he loves his plantsim heritage hence the strong theme of the book! If he knew his dad better he may have gone for a wolfy theme instead :P

Round 1: Wedding

I'd like to thank Cleo Martin [Shikibu], David Ottomas, Sanjay Ramaswami and twins Lennox and Lewis Bradshaw for their appearance as The Plumbbob Faeries - 'Howling For Love' and 'Growing On You' are great songs, guys!; uh...Christopher Platz for his 'catering' - less said the better here...; Florence Delarosa for providing the flowers for Bithiah's hair; Sarah Scott and Daniel Gibson for the photography; and the Plant People of the Enchanted Forest (http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=436064) for being such great hosts!

A big thank you also to all our family and friends who attended and witnessed our very special celebration. Nan and Grandad, Mum, [step]Dad, and Dad, my brothers and sister, nieces and cousins...Jasmine, Gabby and Justin...the Gavigans for giving me my beautiful wife...I love you all - now let's eat some cake!

Round 2: Baby

We were told to expect a bundle of one,
In late spring, one fine day in April.
Your nursery was not quite done...
But in March you arrived for us to enjoy,
Our healthy bouncy baby boy...
But also a beautiful little girl -
I welcome you both to the world.
My precious babies, my pride and joy,
With eyes of green and of blue -
I promise to love and protect and guide
To always be there for you
With arms held open wide. :lovestruc

Round 3: Vacation (feels so wrong saying that as a Brit!)

Auntie Jasmine back in 'da Hills' received some post:
http://s19.postimage.org/t4qzvsk8j/Postcard.jpg

Holiday from hell...the plan was for me, Biffy and the kids to go with mum, [step]dad & lil bros to visit Takemizu Village where dad's grandparent's grew up. He's never been before and wanted to all his life - and really wanted to make sure Martin saw it.
Well...he nearly didn't get to go! The airline had double booked his seat - fools! So the long journey became even longer as we argued our case for getting him on the same flight.
After many hours, we finally arrived at our gorgeous destination to find most of our luggage had been put on a different flight (me, Abe and Martin had ours though!). Not only that, but the room prices were higher than had been advertised...and there was rain forecast for our entire stay! Typical.
We got settled and ordered some food from room service as we were all hungry, but the incompetent staff only brought the one serving! Useless.

Later on we spoke to some of the locals who were such lovely, friendly sims - they tried to teach us some of their customs, but none of us quite managed to get it right!
Their tea was a big hit with us though, especially Martin and Abe who stayed up half the first night just chatting and drinking cup after mini cup of the stuff! :p
We decided we'd go on some of the available tours to see some of the sights. We, uh...may have been one short on our first trip out...someone got a little bit too engrossed in catching fish half their size... :faceslap:

Our next trip was in a helicopter and we had stunning views of the whole village and beautiful island. Abe started feeling a bit queasy about it though so we had a relaxed evening. During that night, however, Martin and dad also started feeling very ill - we worked out that they'd all eaten the same thing...food poisoning just to top it all off! Thank god the kids weren't ill though. Our moods were all rather dampened like the weather by now. We hardly did anything else, just fished and looked after the sick :(
To sum up, it was an amazing and incredibly beautiful location, with wonderful sims and culture - but I think I've been put off travelling for life...give me the 'Hills anyday!

http://s19.postimage.org/6rj98zjar/Greenman_Vacation_Spread.jpg

Round 4: Birthday(obviously judge the birthday...I'm still angry about the school one!)

Happy birthday to you...
Happy birthday to you...
Happy birthday dear L and J...
Happy birthday to you!

As a lil extra birthday treat, I let the kids help pick the papers and elements - but, as much as I love them, I wasn't going to trust them to put it together! However, Luna may have kept sliding another lil element onto the page enough times that I gave in...I must be going soft...
About halfway through I left the desk while I sorted their lil brother out...and when I returned 10 minutes later I found out it wasn't safe to leave the book unfinished - take a wild guess at who's going to bed a bit early tonight...!

http://s19.postimage.org/9pkeklbw3/Greenman_Birthday_Spread2.jpg
(unfortunately saving for here has messed the image quality up again...comparison pics here: http://postimage.org/image/a4vodlxtb/ http://postimage.org/image/svxlnrsdr/ - really not anything I can do about it to get them under 250 though...)

Oh wow, I wake up and suddenly we are almost there! We have three more entries. jones has jumped the judging ship so we have a that position available still. Warm MTS welcome to InesMarie, and Croutonian, I bumped jones to number 9 so you could have 8. Not that it matters at all, but everyone has favorite/lucky numbers and you seemed to be the only one who wanted a specific number in my list. ;)

We need just 1 more contestant, and now 1 more judge. And jones, you didn't really make me feel bad, it was more like just a puppy bite; surprising and a tinsy bit hurty, but nothing serious. It's fine. One more person (and a judge, both are equally important for forum rules I believe) and I can release Round 1 on you all! I'm getting really excited about this!

Everyone else, I've gone through and clicked 'Helpful' to each of your posts if you are compliant with image sizing, attachments, and inline photos. If you don't have that 'Helpful (1)' yet, please work on what's still wrong so we won't dock you point for your Round 1 being the same. Looks like Olynicole (image too small), Kisses (not attached), and Croutonian (no inline) still need a few fixes. :) And please, no one else click the Helpful button to confuse the contestants.

I started it last night and stayed up later than I planned cause I couldn't stop. My husband fell asleep on the couch waiting for me ;)

Applying to be a judge! I don't specifically do scrapbooking, but my design experience includes photography and design for print. (see attachments)

If my stuff looks okay, I'd love to be on board. :)

You guys all do such gorgeous work. I am pleased to learn something here. I hope to improve my painting skills during this contest. It gives me incentive. Textures are what slow me down when making meshes. I always bog down on the textures.

Other than hand painting, how do you make a shadow on those emblems and decals and things? (Photoshop help generally sucks for quick answers... kinda like trying to use the Joy of Cooking - It fails for a quick dinner because the dishes depend on all kinds of other premade sauces to make them. lol)

Usually, the down and dirty method is to add a drop shadow. There is a little box down in the bottom of the right hand panel, and if you right click on it, a list of effects will pop up, including drop shadows, inner shadows, and embossing/beveling. I'll explain more later, its lunch time!

Hi, I'm new to this site, but I'm an old hat at simming and scrapbooking so jones was able to convince me to join :) Everyone has submitted lovely entries so far. Hope you like mine. The family's name is Harrod

It was a small, beach wedding on the beautiful island of Twikkii. Ben's brother, Abe and his wife, Laura were there to witness.

Kewl Jones! Can't wait for your friend to join.

Phae, since we've all been advertizing and begging our friends to join, is there a limit on how many people can sign up for this contest? You never know, we may go from famine to feast by Sunday. :)

Hey! She's here! YEA PIXEL! :call: We have 10! It's a go! (Good thing too. I'll need all weekend to do round 1. I have some tough competition! :jest:

Thanks for the tips Phae! I really need them. lol (You guys have nothing to fear form me. I'll be last place. :)

I don't think round one ends Sunday, that was just the deadline to get 10. As to shadows, some of my stuff I added manually, but there are loads of digi scrapbook elements online that you can download for free and a lot of them already have a shadow. I usually tweak those too (for continuity's sake) but it's a place to start. One of my favorite sites for such things is ShabbyPrincess :)

Was just thinking how odd the two sim "projects" I have going on are in comparison, lol. In 2 I have this contest and in 3 I'm trying to make a dog into a sheep, haha! (So far the mods like the idea and the body, but I need to work on the head) So it's going to be back and forth for me till I get this darn "sheep" figured out :P

Ok everyone! We have 10 and 3 judges. Welcome and thank you to PixelDollyLover! WE ARE OFFICIALLY ON! I will have round 1 examples up sometime later today (I need time to make my pages! lol!) And then you can all start running. Applications will remain open all through Round 1, which will either close end of Sunday May 20 for bonus points, or end of Sunday May 28.

Since I know you are all chomping at the bit, I'll let you know now, plus I'm sure you all could guess this round anyways.

:alarm: Here's another thing a tad different from usual contests. Please edit your application post and attach all your scrapbook pages there. That will make it easy for everyone to view your entire 'book' all in one go. Please remember to take your time and not submit anything till next Friday if you want bonus points. You are allowed to edit your entry as much as you want, but when scoring bonuses we will base on the time stamp of your last edit, not the original post.

I've updated the main post with lots of new-ish information, so please reread it. :)

Phae and Jones! thank you so much for this contest and the shabby digital downloads suggestion! Phae for the contest so I can learn and practice digital textures and scrapbook and Jones because I have been struggling with producing our real life extensive family tree using the formats that come with family tree maker - their templates don't do what I want. I know about scrapbooking, of course, buyt have never tried my hand at the modern version. We just used to scribble on paper and make headlines for pictures in those old photo books and not much else. so Yea! Porky will join the 21st century digital scrapbooking design cadre! The digital scrapbooking resource will make that a fun project. I have too many books to produce so digital is the way to go. Like I've said previously, I have no talent at drawing so using pre made textures really help. :0) YIPPEE! I can't wait to start playing!

Because of the way the subscriptions work for the thread and that I'm asking you all to edit your original post instead of posting new, feel free to write up a little 'bump' post for when you update so we all get a notification. You are recommended to 'clean up' your application post text and tell a story along with the photos, and your "I've updated!" post should be where you tell me how horrible photoshop was being to you and how adorably silly the toddler was with her mush. Keep the scrapbooking post as 'professional and in-character' as possible. :)

I'm about halfway done with my example pages for you guys. I got side-tracked by my mom visiting for a few days.

Applications are still open and we'd love to have anyone else who thinks they might just want to join! (Let's keep the link in our siggys until at least then, shall we?)

I finished finished my pages! Time to get inspired and come up with some great shots and themes for your own wedding. Please tell me everyone saw this round coming. The next round is likely almost as predictable, but then it gets interesting... ;) Yay for our 10 contestants making us official!

Thank you InesMarie! My family is from one of my uploads (http://www.modthesims.info/d/275300), the Dad already had a little alien girl, and I was dying to use those pretty fairy wings (http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=348111) I'd downloaded forever and a half ago, so I decided the little girl would be a butterfly alien. It was just too cute not to have Mom spawn a little daisy boy right then and there. Flowers and butterflys are natural best friends. They had gotten married only a few minutes before.

Everyone, you are welcome to post earlier than Friday if you need help/feedback/advice/constructive criticism. Your bonus points get tallied based on your last edit time so you could totally cheat my system by uploading on Tuesday and then editing some text in your post on Friday. Though, I might notice that the picture is the still the same. ;) This contest is very much about learning and honing skills, so if you feel something is off and you just can't tell what, post and ask. We'd love to help. :)

Those wings are now in my download folder! They are so cute!

Thanks for letting us post earlier. I need all the help I can get! :faceslap: I was thinking I should change my terrible scrapbook cover but I decided to let it be so I can see how much my artwork improves (hopefully) Had to go on a download binge for wedding dresses and digital scrapbook stuff - Well actually, I was busy so Inez did the work and I made her share it with me. :P

Now to get busy for awhile anyway My hubby is off at a swap meet but he's supposed to take me to see Dark Shadows tonight! I just have to see that campy movie mainly because we used to RACE home after school to get to see it when we were kids. We all glued ourselves to the tv waiting for Barnabas to bite someone. The potential was always there but I don't think we ever saw him bite anyone! :wtf: The funny thing is my mom wondered why we all raced home to glue ourselves to the tv precisely at 4. One day, she poked her head around the corner into the front room just in time to see Barnabas with full fang face ready to bite someone and went "EEK! What are you children watching! Turn that off! Go outside!" "NoOooOOoOOooo Mom!! We want to see Barnabas bite someone!" I HATE soap operas to this day! They make you wait and wait and wait for the 'scene'. My hubby missed out on Barnabas because he was on a school bus and didn't get home in time. He will probably want to see the Avengers too.

It depends a little bit on which graphics program you use. If you use Photoshop, go File -> Save for Web (or Ctrl-Shift-Alt-S), and fiddle with the quality slider until it's just under 250kb.
I know GIMP has a similar feature, but I don't know how to use it. If you're using another image editor, go go Google. ;)

I don't have The Sims 2 installed on my current laptop, and have managed to lose the base game so can't reinstall it, otherwise I'd definitely enter! I am vaguely considering ordering the base game so I can enter, but it depends when the application round is going to end - I'd be ordering it off Amazon so it's likely to take a week or so to get here, especially as I can't spare the extra £5 for faster postage. I could manage to get something in for the 28th, but maybe not the 21st... I've kind of been looking for an excuse to buy The Sims 2 again, I miss it! I still have all the EP's on disk, it's just the base game I've somehow managed to lose. I'm such a muppet sometimes...

If you still require an emergency judge I am happy to put my name forward :-) I do a bit of Sims 3 scrapbooking, so I can provide pictures as required, just let me know if you do still need an EJ or not :-) It looks like it's shaping up to be an awesome contest Phae! :-D

Awesome! Thanks Phae :-) I am forced to confess to something: I just ordered The Sims 2 basegame off Amazon, and didn't pay extra for faster postage. Great, now I will have two sims games to be addicted to.....

I am making an official executive decision here about this round's deadline. We are going to use the full 2 weeks for Round 1. You may still submit early for the bonus points, but this will allow for more people to join, and because Wednesday May 23 is a very big presentation for me in school and I won't have time to spend during the weekend before to make up examples for Round 2. I *might* be able to start Round 2 sooner than the next Monday, like that Friday or Saturday, but no promises. Please spend the time learning how to use your image programs to the best of their scrapbooking abilities so you can go super fast in the later rounds. And lets see how many more best-friend's cousins we can pull into our little contest. ;)

I've posted my "rough" first wedding page. I don't like the group photo...any suggestions. Not sure my "binding shadow" looks right either... Any other critiques are welcome as well!

Also, do you want us to post our in-line's like yours? As one "spread"? And then post as separate 954x954 attachments?

Phaenoh
14th May 2012, 9:26 PM
As long as you have the separate pages attached, I don't mind if you do your inlines either as two separate pages or as a full spread through another picture site, your call on that one. (I'd recommend doing them as a spread because that's how you'd read a book and they look nicer that way, but I don't want to put too many restrictions on people.) :)

I like where you are going with that page and I can't wait to see the second! The binding shadow could be a little darker, and the drop shadows on everything else should be less fuzzy and smaller. They are so spread out I can barely tell they are there. As for the group photo, I would just move_objects them all closer to each other, and maybe catch the bride and groom in the middle of a dip kiss? The rest of them could be clapping or cheering or shocked even. Catching action makes for a good photo. :)

Thanks, Phae. I will have to "cheat" and take the group photo at home, as the wedding is at a community lot, or am I forgetting a cheat to enable build/buy on community lots....I think maybe I am forgetting. This is the first time I've ever really played around with shadows, thanks so much for the tips :) And I think the in-lines as a spread is better too. Guess I'll have to sign up for some photo hosting site, lol. Any suggestions for photo hosting?

*EDIT* Apparently I forgot I had a photobucket account O.o (I have signed up for so many things over the years, I can't tell you how many times I've gone to sign up for something and them found out I already did years ago, lol) So I'll just use tinypic :)

*EDIT2* Fiddled with the shadows a bit. Any better?

Phaenoh
15th May 2012, 4:34 AM
It is a bit better, don't forget to keep your lighting/shadow angle the same throughout your pages. Both of yours are lit from the bottom, but one is from the bottom right and the other bottom left. ;) Pay a lot of attention to how you would go about constructing this in real life. Are you printing the words via a printer, or are you hand drawing them, or stenciling, or using stickers? The more things you think about process-wise, the more realistic it looks.

Anyone looking at this and thinking "geez! Phae is being really harsh, I don't think I'm good enough for this" please don't think that. There is a BIG difference for me between the constructive criticism phase and the judging phase. I will nitpick until the deadline because this is about improving skills, and when it comes to judging, I'm grading based on an average line. Is this stuff as good or better than the stuff I see everyday on MTS? From what I can see of jones' stuff she is earning a good most of her points already and she still has 2 weeks. :)

Who's next?

I use stickers and hand written for text in my scrapping (both sim and non-sim, lol). So they will be mixed. The "Forever and Always" is my "hand written" font I use in my digi pages. The "two hearts" words are a sticker. I hadn't even noticed about the conflicting lighting directions, I'll have to pay more attention. Like I said this is the most I've ever played around with shadows. Thanks for the feedback :)

Shadows are tricky, and they are the number one thing that can make or break a texture or image. It took me very long time to get good at them. I am very impressed at how well everyone has been able to do them so far. These are great. :)

So the deal with the sizing, I'm still a little confused on how big the images have to be? I've made a page, similar to yours in shape and size with two pages open like a book (1000x500 pixels) but the image including white space above and beside it, is 1024x1024 pixels. Is this okay?? Or should I chop the whole thing so the image is just the pages themselves without the white space? Sorry if this is stupid I'm just a bit unsure on the rules!!

Thanks,

justJones
16th May 2012, 2:55 AM
Kisses , I'm pretty sure Phae wants each individual page at 954x954 (or1024x1024 with the white border) as attachments, and then if you want to have a spread (like her's) in-line you can. If you notice, she has her's individual as attachments.

Phaenoh
16th May 2012, 8:16 AM
Kisses, jones is correct. You need to have 2 pages that have colored paper squares of 954px that could have white space around it bringing the image size up to 1024x1024. A two pages spread is too large to attach here, which is why I have attached my two pages separately, and then created a third image that I uploaded to my photobucket to use as an inline. While it would be awesome to have the images all be exactly the same perfect size (handy to put into online book makers), I'm only going to dock points for image size if the images are substantially smaller than they should be; I'm not getting out my pixel calipers. ;)

Just a little update from me: I still very much hope to get an application in before you close the application round, especially given that this contest persuaded me to repurchase the basegame so that I could reinstall The Sims 2 and all the EP's and SP's (which I already have). However, in an annoying setback, the Amazon Marketplace seller sent me the wrong thing - Double Deluxe instead of the normal basegame. I am currently discussing with them what we're going to do now - I'm hoping they'll either send me the right thing asap or give me a partial refund as Double Deluxe is actually cheaper than just the basegame, but we shall see. Very annoying!

I have pretty much done my application now; I just need a sims photo to put in it! Is it ok if I upload the cover without the photo for now and then add the photo when I get The Sims 2 installed?

Phaenoh
17th May 2012, 12:18 AM
What's wrong with Double Deluxe? That will work for you just as well, and you get an extra EP out of too, which is always nice. Yes, go ahead and upload your cover so we can get you 'registered'. :)

I had to take a break from 2 today to take some more pics of my "sheep" (which is now available for download, it's for 3 though, but you should all still check it out :D ) But this contest has really gotten me back into playing 2! I have SOOOOOOOOOOOO missed OFB! It's by far my favorite EP. I think the Wears family is going to open a music store.

Oh, there's nothing wrong with it except that I could've got it for £3 less on Amazon! And I already had the EP and SP. The company that sent it have agreed to refund the £3 though, so I'm keeping it and I'm happy :-)

Luckily I don't have to worry about the time zone difference since I'm only about a 3 hour drive north of you :) I better get back to work on my pages, I got distracted by building ;) Man, I've missed 2, lol. I think my next upload may be for 2...

Updated page one again, I like this group photo much better :) Thanks for the tips Phae!

I'm going to do a quick rule change on you all again. Instead of requiring all the contestants to post early for anyone to get bonus points, it will be done on an individual basis. Posting/updating today, tomorrow, and Sunday will earn you bonus points no matter what anyone else does. You still have until May 28 to submit if you can't get it in this weekend, so don't feel rushed. :)

Phaenoh
18th May 2012, 8:45 PM
Kisses, your submission looks great!

If you want to go back and tweak a few things on it, I noticed that your first little paragraph thing could be shortened to "Finishing Touches: 10:30am", for a could different reasons. The first one I noticed was because it was small and hard to read, and the spacing wasn't equal from top to bottom. Second, I was confused as to whether you were telling me that you'd be tweaking your submission before midnight, opposed to actually using that as your caption. The third reason you should fix it is because you are using the time 11:55 for tweaks and 11 for the wedding. It generally takes more than 5 minutes for final primping before a wedding, and usually that part happens before the actual ceremony. ;)

While I like the cardboard/burlap texture for the page, its a very similar color to your photos, which makes them blend in maybe more than they should. The little flowers seem like stickers because the shadows and the shading aren't enough to make it 3D. It's fine if you intended them to be stickers though, maybe add a thin white line around the edges to show us that there is some material thickens to it if its a sticker.

Take from this what you will, and if you update your images tomorrow, you will earn yourself an extra bonus point because it will be Saturday. This is very lovely already. :)

jones, when I opened your page back up and scrolled to them, the first thing I said was just 'wow'. Then I said it a second time. The only thing I really noticed that could be improved was the group photo again. I think part of the problem is that the angle of the photos is so high up. We are used to seeing that because thats the angle we tend to play the game from, but your wedding photographer probably had to be on a ladder to get that. Lowering the camera angle lets you see more of the dresses and faces and hair, and less of the grass. You have a very elegant pretty page. :)

As a general suggestion, since most of you have the link to the contest in your sigs right now, you could add another link right next to it that links to your post specifically, like so:
Scrapbooking Contest - The Stargazer's Book
or
TS2 Scrapbooking Contest! Join today! - View my entry!

This lets you have a bit more of a spotlight on your own work, and it makes it super easy for me to find your post again without having to go back to the front page and my links table. To get the link to just your post, click on the '#' on the right hand side. This will open up a new tab with only yours, use that page's url for the link. :)

I met Cody on a crisp spring day, walking home after school. My family and I had just moved in to the neighborhood, and he was in the group of teenagers walking my way. He was sweet, kind, and all the things I was looking for in a boyfriend... Three weeks after we'd started dating I'd discovered I was pregnant, I always wanted a family but this was not what I was expecting.

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/5/9/7/8/4/4/MTS_kateisl33t-1294995-MarleyCOVER.jpg

My parents were very angry about my situation; infact I hadn't even introduced Cody to them yet. Cody's mother and step father took it a little easier though, as Cody's mother was a teen mom aswell. Many people urged me to keep the baby, or set up an adoption. I decided Cody and I would make great parents and so I kept the baby. One month into the pregnancy Cody proposed to me, and then two months later we shared out vows for one another in holy matrimony.

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/5/9/7/8/4/4/MTS_kateisl33t-1295176-wedd1.jpghttp://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/5/9/7/8/4/4/MTS_kateisl33t-1295177-wedd2.jpg

The Bahamas were great, we met locals and played in the sand all day. I was afraid of giving premature birth, but Cody assured me it would be alright. The trip was very short, as it was being paid for by Cody's side of the family. One night we had dinner outside of our hotel room, and Cody and I thought of baby names for our bundle of joy, we decided with "Telia" if it was a girl, or "Devon" if it happend to be a boy.

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/5/9/7/8/4/4/MTS_kateisl33t-1296929-honeymoon1.jpghttp://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/5/9/7/8/4/4/MTS_kateisl33t-1296930-Honeymoon2.jpg

We ended up having a girl, which we named Telia Ann. She's the most beautiful girl I've ever seen. I plan on putting her into pageants, and modeling when she gets older. It was a ncie relaxing home birth, because ofcourse we couldn't dare try and pay the hospital bills. I soon dropped out of highschool, and started taking GED classes online, and Cody was on his last year, and so he decided to graduate.

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/5/9/7/8/4/4/MTS_kateisl33t-1297857-Baby1.jpghttp://thumbs.modthesims.info/getimage.php?file=1297856

It's been a couple years since I've scrapbooked, but I was definately busy with the baby and my job working as an employee at McDonalds. We've managed to do alright for ourselves, and I even got Telia into pageants, which she's been doing excellent at. I know it's horrible, but I've been using her earnings to help pay the bills, instead of saving them for her college fund.

http://thumbs.modthesims.info/getimage.php?file=1299458http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/5/9/7/8/4/4/MTS_kateisl33t-1299457-first2.jpg

A couple weeks into the summer when Telia was 15, we decided that we should take a family vacation to a Simland Amusement Park, because Cody and I haven't gone on a vacation since our honeymoon. Cody took most of the pictures, since he now has a career as Telia's modeling coach, he manages her portfolio and helps get her jobs modeling. Telia thoroughly enjoyed herself, and we were glad we took the time off of our busy schedules to have this wonderful family vacation.

Updated again! I changed some of my stoopid typos and added a few more elements to the pages just because I could! ;) Just wondering if it's too late to change the album cover, if you don't think everything looks like it goes together? If so then I'll do that tonight and upload it tomorrow for the final day of bonus points! Sorry I wasn't clear on that before, but I would love all of your feedback before it's too late :) Thank you!

Selly, looks nice! I think the binding shadow is fine, but the light purple text is very hard to read, and the top note on the right hand side could be condensed to be larger. I had to squint at it to read it. Please also attach single page images as well. It will help me from having to squint at words. ;)

jones, I really like it. +2 to Saturday!

kisses, I like the album cover. I think your background color for the wedding is still off, now the pretty flowers blend in with it. Maybe a nice cream color would help stuff stand out? If you can get that updated within the next 5 and a half hours you get to keep the +2 Saturday points, opposed to +1 Sunday. ;)

Yes, those links work Ines. To put them into your signature, you need to go to the top right corner of the page. Click on 'User Tools', then 'Edit Signature'. Anything you put in there will show up at the bottom of all your posts.

Your entry is *very* glittery and pretty busy. I know its a wedding and all weddings should be over the top, but maybe removing one of your elements will help the photos stand out a little more. The background paper is patterned, you have lots of pretty flowers on top, and then there is all that shiny glitter bedazzel. I think the glitter stuff could be toned down, it's the least convincing to begin with, so that will help as well.

You main image on the first page is also taken from a very high angle, you will get a much better shot from it if you zoom in lower for more of an eye level photo. :)

Thank you Phaenoh for checking on the signatures. I changed my entry. I faded the background and removed some tinsel. I also reduced the drop shadow on the main lace circles so they don't stand out as much. I saw that others had written some 'biographies' from the perspective of the sim. I wrote one too from Lydia's view point. I hope that is ok.

Your church is very nice. If I had know about it I would have used it and saved a lot of time building mine for the scrapbook. :)

Porky, you have some very nice photos there. Very unique. I very much like that you took the time to see what behind them was going to look like and made sure to fill it in with trees. Good job there. My only critique for you, and this one can't lose you points, is you managed to find one of the few colors I really don't care for. Salmon? ick. I hope your next page is a different color scheme. Oh, wait, I found something real I can say. All of your papers have patterns on them. Sometimes that can get busy and its usually a good idea to pair a pattern with a co-coordinating plain page, or two patterns and one plain. Your three patterns don't look busy with each other because the stripes one is pretty subtle so it works, but as a general suggestion as something to watch out for in the future. :)

Kisses, that cream antiquey paper looks really formal and fancy on the page. I love it. I just noticed you are missing your binding shadow on the single pages. Since you have it in your inline spread I won't dock points, but its always best to try to make the attachments as close to the rules as possible. Those are what we are using for 'grading'. ;)

Ines, I asked about your signature issue and after having trouble finding anything that says newbies can't have signatures, Delphy discovered it was because your "show signature box" is not ticked on your posts. Its in your Edit Options tab. I also noticed that the formating on your links isn't correct (they do show up on your profile page). They need to read like this:
[ url= web address ] Words Appear Here [ /ur ] but without the spaces. I looked at your revised entry as well, and it's darn pretty now. Good job!

kateisl33t, I just noticed that you also uploaded your wedding pages. They look nice. Please attach your two pages as separate pages that way they can meet the size requirements. Try saving your image using a 'Save for Web' to keep the file size under 250kb and MTS won't have any problems with it. You can use the spread as your inline, but the attached versions need to be the separate pages so it can be nice and big. I've having a lot of trouble reading your fancy cursive text because its on top of a busy background. I'd suggest you put the text on top of their own plain little boxes so its easy to read. :)

Sorry about not plugging my church sooner. This isn't a building contest by any means, so *please* take advantage of MTS extensive downloads. Anything you need, we probably have. ;)

Porky, the honeymoon didn't make it into its own round, so if you want you can add it into your wedding spread. Or, since you are done and have another week left, you can make a honeymoon spread. That's an interesting idea, add 'mini' bonus rounds for the second week. I'll think on it and let everyone know Monday.

justJones
21st May 2012, 1:31 AM
I was going to ask Phae, if we could do a couple other pages, like honeymoon, and just attach them and not do in-line, just for fun, but bonus mini round would be good too :D

Phaenoh
21st May 2012, 2:24 AM
Well, I can tell you right now that doing Honeymoon pages would be fine, and I'd suggest to do inlines and not attachments for them rather. I'm not sure how bonus points would work *if at all* for them, but doing more image editing practice will help you on your later pages no matter what, so anyone itching for something to do this week since they've already done their wedding pages may do a set of honeymoon pages. I'll help critique them just as I would the 'real' pages, but I'm not going to create 'example' pages for them (I have no time! I'm sewing a baby stroller seat right now. >.< ) I'll keep thinking on how I might be able to handle bonus points for them, but please don't be upset if I can't figure out a way of fitting it in, I can't penalize the people who choose not to do them. It's in the forum rules.

Ok, I've got a system figured out for y'all now. In each round we will have our main theme (for this round, Wedding) that everyone must complete, and we will have a bonus theme (Honeymoon), that you may choose to do as well. After you've completed both spreads, you can decided which you'd rather us to judge you on. At the beginning of each round I will announce both themes because a few of them should come before the main theme pages in your books. This lets me sneak in all the other events I wanted to use but had to cut back on to keep the contest short enough. How's that suit all of you?

How does everyone else feel about this? I don't want to go changing the rules on anybody without them being cool with it. I think I found a fair way of doing it though, since I really can't offer that many extra bonus points. This will give you a couple shots to get something you are really happy to be judged with. And you can still edit either of them as much as you want until the rounds close. This will mean that all rounds will be 2 weeks by default. To get your bonus points you will need to submit one spread by the middle weekend, but it won't matter which one, main or bonus theme. I like this plan. Sound good?

Lolipop, jones is mostly right this time. You just need to get your application page (a scrapbook cover) in by Sunday. You also need to have 2 wedding pages done as soon as you can, but if they are after Sunday, they will be counted as late and will lose 1 point per day they are late. We'd love to have you join us though!

PixelDolly, your wedding and honeymoon can definitely look similar, they are both part of the same round. Glad to hear you are still with us. I'm a little concerned about some of our earlier joiners, aUserName, OlyNicole, leah10006 have gone silent. Are you guys still with us? :call:

Then of course, I had to landscape the garden for the garden wedding..... (I've always loved building and gardening the best anyway - mainly because in real life, my garden SUCKS! lol ) What I really like is that I finally got a new computer and the game runs so well and my new computer never reboots on me like the old one did. (It has a hardware flaw) SO I spent way too much time getting my wedding shots, then I pasted up the scrapbook page and was actually done with it, then I went and overwrote it! (dummy! I KNOW better!) but I was able to recover the parts because I had not closed photoshop. All the elements windows were already resized and ready to go so I plastered them back on as fast s I could but I MISSED Phae's midnight by 21 minutes! lol Now THAT takes time! lol

I'm having a blast with this. I am learning a lot - I still have blinding decorative taste - but I hope to learn more about texturing. I like to make meshes but my textures SUCK. I hope to learn something here. It gives me incentive. And Phae might still need sunglasses. ;)

Hi lolipop. When you edit a text box, click on the attachment tab and upload your images. This contest requires that each page be 954 by 954 pixels. You have to save your large images as web ready or 'medium' to make sure they are smaller than 250 KB. We can all help you with that if you have problems. I had to learn about the web save sizing myself. :)

Once you upload your pictures, in the attachment section, you will see the name above the image.
Click on that and it will open a new tab.
Go to that tab and copy the address of the image
Back in your text box click the picture icon and when the little pop up opens, paste your image link in there. It will code the image for you, OR you can manually do the code [ IMG ] link of image [ / IMG ] (There are no spaces in the IMG code brackets)

I too like the sound of the extra "bonus" rounds Phae! :)

I might not do extra pages for all (drawing a blank at the moment regarding Honeymoon) but if the creative juices start flowing then I'll definitely see what I can pull together. At least now I know how to construct the scrapbook interior; it was a bit of "Use original page construction, double the size and fiddle with layers to get something halfway decent" the first time out

Lolipop, porky did a good job explaining how to save an post an image, follow her advice. ;)

Croutonian and Selly, don't worry about not making a Honeymoon spread. It is completely optional. (I'm not even doing one! Well, my sims didn't go on a Honeymoon after their wedding so, eh.)

Psst, Porky, since I'm a green hat and all, I'm supposed to enforce forum rules, do you think you could work on double posting a little less? :P

Sounds like everyone is more or less cool with the added themes, I'll add that to the rules and see how that makes everything else all shake out a little later this evening. :)

I like the bonus idea, but adding a new slide (The honeymoon) would take my extra point away from submitting my wedding scene early, so I'll probably make one, I just wont submit it.

:deal: Although, on another side note.. I wouldn't mind if you gave us all of the life stages we'll be presenting, because some of us are more busy than others, but I do understand you don't want rushed submissions... Maybe not accepting the submissions till the week its due? I know you feel compelled to show examples, but I wouldn't mind knowing what the life stages are so I could think of how to present them the best way possible..

Kate, I don't think the "bonus" round will change your bonus point. Phae said the bonus theme was for the second week, so I think she will still give the bonus points based on when you submitted your wedding pages. I could be wrong, but I think that's what she means.

PixelDolly, they look pretty cool. It looks like a fun destination wedding. Your drop shadows are a bit off. They imply that the photos are floating because they are so far away from what is casting them, and your light source is from the bottom left. Usually lighting is done from the top side. There is barely any lighting on your cover page, so its hard to tell if you are being constant or not. Your text is a bit hard to read because of the font, the size of it, and the background color, and you aren't being very consistent on the use of capitalization either. I really like your tropical beach color scheme.

kate, the bonus points for this round and for any other round are for getting your required pages (Wedding) done and submitted during the middle Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. The Honeymoon thing is just an extra spread you may make if you want, and after having made both, you can choose between your Wedding or Honeymoon pages to be judged on. Basically, it just extra practice. You don't need to create Honeymoon pages, and even if you do, it will not earn you bonus points. Hope that clears it up! :)

PixelDollyLover
22nd May 2012, 5:31 PM
I'll try to fix the shadows and make the text easier to read. The inconsistency with the capitalization drives me nuts too, but the program I'm using automatically does it every new line :( Please don't penalize me for it.

Phaenoh
22nd May 2012, 5:49 PM
Sometimes you can get around that by backspacing as soon as it auto-capitalizes, otherwise, just keep typing and it should wrap your text within the box without capitalizing it because it isn't technically a new line. What program are you using?

PixelDollyLover
22nd May 2012, 6:38 PM
I'm a combination of Craft Artist and Gimp. The text is in CA. It probably wouldn't do it if I didn't have it centered. I'll see what I can do.

I'm a little concerned about some of our earlier joiners, aUserName, OlyNicole, leah10006 have gone silent. Are you guys still with us? :call:

I’m still here. I've been following the thread and everyone’s pictures look great! Good job everyone.

I can’t believe how long it took me just to set up the wedding. My couple actually got married a long time ago, so I had to resurrect and de-age a ton of sims to recreate their wedding. Plus, the church they really got married in needed to be redecorated. By the time I finished I didn’t actually have time to take pictures. :P

I might finish my entry today, but if not, it will be a few days before I can finish it. Also, I’m fine with the bonus idea either way.

Here’s a roughly done preview picture.

aUserName your photo is pretty dark, be sure to add lights to your church and to set your graphics correctly so you get the highest quality images you can.

Everyone who is spending forever making the lots, please don't! Save yourself a lot of time and download a church/park that will work. This will ensure that your backdrop is a lovely one (because it had to pass MTS moderation) and you can spend your time getting your photos just right.

Lolipop, you need to make a scrapbook cover with a photo of your family on it first. After that you need to make a wedding page. :)

MAB, yes, and thank you! We'll need to see 2 examples of your work, it can be either scrapbooking or graphic design, and the subject matter can be anything.

Lolipop, these are nice, but its not quite right. First we need your application cover page, without it, you aren't technically in the contest yet. You haven't attached one. Secondly, your wedding scrapbook pages are limited to 2 pages (right and left), and you need to include things like the binding shadow down the middle and shadows under the photos themselves. Also, your images are much too small. Please look at my examples and everyone else's entries for how the pages are supposed to look (you can use my templates to make sure they are big enough) and how to compose the pages. You can use these sim photos because they are so small and you can place a few of them on the same page. Please try it again. :)

Lolipop, its ok that you messed up. :) Almost no one here got it right the first time, but that was the point of the application round - to work out the troubles with the image sizes. Please go back to your post and edit it till you get it right. Delete all of your attachments and just attach the scrapbook cover first. Its currently missing. ("Image is not available or does not exist" is appearing where I think you've tried to include it.) It doesn't matter how many EPs you have, its more about the time you take to add in the extra things like lace and buttons and flowers and trimming around the photos like the other contestants have.

MAB, sure. Try to figure out your attachment issues. MTS has both pixel size and file size restrictions that you need to be under to attach something, so look into that. :)

kate, you get to keep your bonus points. You got your required submission in by the weekend. The week afterwards is supposed to be for the extra spreads so you may attach them anytime before Monday, just be sure to let us know which one you want judged (the bonus points get applied in either case), so pick the one you think you did better on. :)

So, finally, I can now be officially qualified to judge! Since all my old paper scrapbooks are safe and happy in another country, you guys get to enjoy my first dodgy foray into digital scrapbooking. I know it's not perfect, I was planning to add the edges of other pages for one thing, and that binding makes me cringe - but I've really, really run out of time, have exams coming up soon, and would kinda like to post this before applications close. So here it is, albeit not totally finished :p .

white, cats are awesome and full of win. I see no reason why this shouldn't have been the first choice in the first place. ;)

porky, I just saw your Honeymoon spread and I'm guessing you just found the embossing tool. :P You went a little over the top with it. Right now everything kinda looks like those 3D bubble stickers. It works on a few of your elements, like the rainbow, but it makes your photos look fake. The trees are a bit overkill with the bubble effect as well. Right now I'd say your wedding spread is better, but if you fixed this one issue, your Honeymoon page stands a good shot at being better. I love all the different elements you've added in. Try to use the same shadow method you used on your Wedding photos, it looks really good there. Do remember to tell us which one you want judged. :)

Olynicole and Lolipop, we still need your scrapbook covers to be resized/attached or you will not be allowed to continue with the contest. You have 24 hours left.

aUserName, leah1006, and Croutonian, we need your Wedding spreads by this time tomorrow or they will be counted as late!

I'm likewise under a time crunch myself, so while I'll be announcing the next round at midnight tomorrow, if I don't have my example page up right away, I won't dock anyone else's late spreads until I get mine up. This might give you a few hours reprieve, or a few days, so don't plan for on it.

Thanks for the tips Phae I'll work on it after Ines is done downloading a bunch of hairstyles. I'll keep the wedding pictures for the contest. The honeymoon is just for practice. :)

Croutonian - Turn off your computer and take the cover off your computer. You may find a thick layer of dust on your processor fan. You can use a slightly damp (Well squeezed out - no drips) q-tip to remove the dust from the fan and cooling heat-sink. The dirt sticks to the damp q-tip rather than blowing it all over the place with dust off. Just make sure you touch the power supply first to discharge any static before working on your processor. (I do this at least every few months.) If your video card has a fan (most do) remove the dirt from that also.

How frustrating! Is the wedding on a larger lot than you usually play on?

I can't believe how many glitches I had while I was trying to take pictures. Not only were my sims glitching, but the game control screen was glitching too. The image kept breaking up. I've never had that before.

Eeeeeep! I spent the whole day, which I had intended to spend finishing up my cover page and doing my wedding spread, asleep with a migraine. For me it's gone midnight, but your timer tells me I still have 4 hours so I'll make sure I get the cover page in by then so I'm in the contest. The wedding spread may be a bit late, but I can live with losing points for that as long as I get to participate.

I know it serves me right for leaving things 'til the last minutes, but still, what a rotten time to have a migraine.... :-( Ok, no more self-pity, I have a scrapbook cover to make!

Phaenoh
28th May 2012, 2:31 AM
aUserName, your pages look very nice, but you've completely forgotten about your shadows! You don't have a binding shadow nor drop shadows behind any of your photos.

lauratje, I completely understand about the migraine issue, its one that plagues me occasionally too. Don't forget, the cover isn't scored, so just make sure its the right size, has a family photo and the family name on it, and that you've attached it. (MTS has both pixel and file size restrictions, so pay attention to that or you're going to have trouble!)

People who are worried about being late, I'm prolly not going to dock points for at least a day anyways. I'm so swamped with my own projects right now, so you get a little reprieve. :) Please, if you wouldn't mind, go vote for my senior capstone project (the transit stroller in my sig), it's what's keeping me away from you all right now. :(

Family Name: The Smiths - Johnny & Ophelia Smith (née Nigmos)

Congrats lauratje, you are in! You have a slight transparency issue around the edge and the binding. It looks like its from using a PNG or not having some setting right, so please look into it sometime later this week when you are feeling better. As for shadows, I mostly just use the default 'drop shadow' effect and change it to 50% instead of 75%. More complicated objects need custom hand painted shadows, but most of flat shapes we are doing for this project do not. :)

Lolipop, your cover is still missing, please try to get that straightened out ASAP, or you can't continue with the competition.

Here are two hospitals that have birthing suites: sunni's Mercy Hospital (http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=326248) and my Apox Hood Hospital (http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=454459).

The mini theme for this round (optional to complete) is "Firsts". This should be pictures of baby's first words, first steps, first time sitting up, rolling over, whatever you can think of. Photos can range from this child being an infant up to a toddler. Don't age them up to kids in these spreads.

My spread would show my twin set being born, which is why the theme isn't limited to single births. Since my family already had toddlers when the pair got married, its the only kids I've got left to work with. As long as you get your wedding spreads in before I get my new baby spread in, I won't take off points. After that, its -1 per day. ;)

kate, I was expecting everyone to use different background paper for each spread, its ok! Please, keep switching it up, its better that the paper color relates to the current theme than it is to match. If anything, your cover shouldn't use a background that you also use for your pages, cuz one is a book cover and the other is page paper.

laura, I fixed it. Can you add that link to your signature as well? It makes it much easier for me to click your sig than going back to the first post, and..., all the cool kids are doing it. ;)

Of course I had not backed up my game before I mucked with it. And I KNOW BETTER - :!: brain dead is all I can say - I backed up the broken game to see if I could extract my families. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game and it worked for apartments but died when I copied the broken game in when I upgraded to M * G. Uninstalled again. made sure apartments worked and then spent all night trying to recover all my families.... Had to do some neighborhood surgery and a partial copy and paste of the neighborhood - no CC and it JUST LOADED the neighborhood and I can see the Machado house! YIPPEE!.. Closing game and BACKING IT UP before I go and break my game again! :mod: :wtf:

Flashing blue. replacing missing cc.. AND porting my fmailes into Sims2 packs... Poor bald babies... They needed some hair on their little noggins... Oh Well... I'm not messing with that until I have the time to make new CC for baby hair.

leah, thank you for attaching them to your application post. You do know your pages are supposed to be square right? Your pictures are VERY small and VERY blurry. Please try to take more care with following the guidelines for this round.

Sorry to hear all that porky. And the hair on my babies heads is totally a custom job I'll be releasing for my creator anniversary set. My babies hair is GENETIC. /me wriggles with pride. Sadly, the rest of everything for that set isn't ready yet, otherwise I could share, but there is some MTS baby hair you can download (http://www.modthesims.info/browse.php?tag=baby+hair&go=Go&gs=1&f=38&gs=1) instead of making it - must go faster!
