View Full Version : Materializing Materials after installing patterns through the Launcher

I couldn't find an exact issue like this, so I apologise if this is a repeat.

I downloaded a collection of patterns this morning, and as they were all .Sims3Pack files I installed them through the launcher. I also installed some Store packs through the 3viewer as they weren't behaving through the Launcher, a custom world and some hairs that were .package files.

However, whenever I try and go into CAS I get the Materializing Materials loop regardless. As I've not ran any .Sims3Packs through Delphy's Multi-installer I was wondering if there was anything else at all that could be causing it? I've since removed the store files but afaik there were no patterns in them (they were Regal Living and Storybook in case that helps)

Does it work if you uninstall the patterns you last installed? These patterns were installed via Launcher?
It may not be limited to just "pure patterns" Sims3Packs made with EA's CAP tool. The broken patterns could also be packaged inside any Sims3Packs you installed.

Where exactly did you search? :)
These are only some results, I stopped collecting them after that 4th similar issue, it's listed from newest (relative to the others) to oldest.

Quick test: do Game Help:Sims 3 Game Problem FAQ. It should clear up after step#2 when you rename/move the DCCache folder, but after step#3 for sure.

I've removed all CC from my game, deleted the cache files, am running a totally vanilla game and am still getting the Materializing Materials loop. There was no problem with the CC not showing up at all before I removed it, it all loaded and was selectable - it's just when trying to open CAS it happens. I've scanned everything through Delphy's Dashboard and nothing is coming up as corrupt.

Running totally vanilla game by renaming the user folder or just by removing CC? ie done step#3 or just up to #2?
What world? Still occurs on all EA worlds, in this vanilla game?

Did you ever have CC placed in the "old way" in Program Files?
Don't use CC Magic, right?

Dashboard won't recognize this sort of corruption of not using Launcher to install CAP patterns, I don't think.

Wait, I just reread post#1 - on using 3Viewer to install worlds...I don't think this works. Well, maybe it might have but with some consequences. It's been a loong time since I used that utility.

I took out all the packages, the .dbc file, cleaned out DCBackup and deleted all the caches, and it's happening in all the EA made worlds.

I'm not using CC Magic, I install and merge all packages using the Custom Launcher, and all Sims3Packs using the EA Launcher, I assume it's something gone wrong from using the 3Viewer.

I'm uninstalling right now and will try again using the 50% method after I've reinstalled.

Does deleting 4 caches includes the Thumbnails folder?

Custom Launcher is generation 1.
CC Magic is generation 2, ie CC Magic is a newer version with updated features and bug fixes, to replace Custom Launcher. CC Magic can handle almost all (user-created) Sim3Packs except for CAP patterns, Store items and worlds.
If were already using Custom Launcher, why still used 3Viewer?

The installed Sims3Packs are scattered into the Library, DCCache, DCBackup, InstalledWorlds and SavedSims folders. And after running the Saved games, bits of stuff gets copied into WorldCaches, Thumbnails and Exports folders. That's why the FAQ states to rename The Sims 3 folder. Until you do that step#3, you're not really starting a totally 100% vanilla game. Unless you also renamed those 10-or-so folders manually, one by one, to make sure they are 100% empty.

I know this thread hasn't had a reply in 18 days, but I experienced this problem as well. It happened after I installed a bunch of patterns. I removed all of my CC and used Delphy's Dashboard to clear the caches (I told it to clear everything) but I still kept having the issue. I finally just looked in Dashboard to see what was still in the list and saw a bunch of Collection files. I selected each and every one of them and chose to disable them. I tested it in game and no longer had the materializing materials issue. I'm going to slowly re-install my CC soon. I'm a bit out of the loop as I haven't played in awhile, but is there a program that can check all of my CC to see if any of it will cause this materializing materials thing? I think I read somewhere that it had to do with something in a pattern that wasn't right and I wanted to be able to scan all of the patterns I download to make sure they don't have something wrong.
I hope that the information on the collections thing is useful. I think I read something about merged files and such. Its all confusing to me. It seems more complicated than the Sims 2 system.
