View Full Version : So, why are worlds so picky about what expansion packs are installed?

This is mostly for my curiosity than anything else --
Awesims (http://awesims.sixty-ten.net/2012/04/30/st-claire-a-new-world-for-the-sims-3/) just released a new world that looks FANTASTIC, but includes dire warnings that you must have all expansion packs in order to use it. I'll never have all the expansion packs (I'm just not interested in a couple of them), so, bummer.
That got me wondering why you need them all in the first place. What is it about custom worlds that breaks them if you don't have the right eps? I understand missing objects, like bridges, making worlds unplayable. Or certain lots not working because you don't have the right rabbithole or lot type. But what is it beyond that would break these worlds?

It is mostly the "missing objects" that you mentioned.
The other data stored in the world file should be fully compatible with any installation, provided you are fully patched.

Because the creator used them whilst making their world, therefore it won't work without them..

That makes sense, twallan. I've used worlds that didn't use any of these ep-specific objects before with no problem even though the creator said they had the eps installed. (Empty worlds.) So this warning I'm seeing around that they just plain don't work unless you have the same eps installed confused me a bit.
I like building my own lots so if I have to replace lots it really doesn't matter. And I have the EPs with the popular bridges. Although, I vaguely remember not being able to delete campgrounds without crashing my game--though that could have been the specific world.

I love Sarah's new world but she buys all the EP's and creates her world with all the EP's. I don't have Pets and SHT (and I have no intention of buying them) so I won't be able to download the world but I can drool over it. I have her Redcliffs and Queenstown - LateNight version and I have loads of fun with those worlds.
