View Full Version : Comparing laptops-Which one is more suitable for The Sims 3?
1st May 2012, 2:12 PM
I would like some help as to which laptop would run a cc-heavy Sims 3 better.
I am currently using a Fujitsu Siemens AMILO Pi 3540.
Here's the dxdiag:
It lags and takes its time loading but the performance is satisfying...
Would a Packard Bell Easy Note TK85 be better?
I am thinking of switching the former for the latter.
Thanks for taking the time to read this. :king:

I'm sorry, but I'm not going to be downloading files just to read DxDiag reports.
Please post them between [spoiler] or [infobutton] tags
Or you could simply provide the URL to their retail pages.
Urm, plugging in those models in web searches return pages from 2008 and 2010? Is the age of these laptops you want to purchase correct?
Or, not purchase but to use for Sims 3? I misread, then...

I am sorry... I wouldn't either. That was stupid. :|
Is that what you mean?
Yes they are old. :D But I can't afford buying a new laptop so I'm thinking of exchanging the one I'm using right now for the Packard Bell one.

No, I mean like this.
- The Fujitsu-Siemens has a better processor than the Packard Bell but an unsupported graphics (GeForce 9300M GS). But the CPU (Core2Duo 2.4GHz) is also the bare minimum, and may run you well for unpatched base game only, not so much when you add more packs.
- The Packard has a weaker processor (Core2Duo 2.0GHz) but a better graphics(ATI Mobility HD 5470). Still, again the graphics and CPU combo may work well for just the unpatched base game, but not when there are more addons and patched to the levels each addon require.
If you must play, I'd do so on the Packard Bell with the supported graphics. But ultimately, you're wearing down the laptops at a faster rate. And they would worsen over time much faster than if you use them for just wordprocessing and surfing on websites alone (or other light tasks that don't involve resource-hungry gaming).
It is not recommended to continue playing Sims 3 on these if you don't have a replacement. Especially, if you use these laptops for school or work stuff and have no other PCs, I wouldn't play on either at all. Save money for a desktop. :) I know it is not an easy task to go cold turkey, I did it for a whole year. I took my fix by reading forums and answering threads. But when I finally get my gaming PC (WEI score of 7.5 out of 7.9), I'm now content.

I see. I think I am going to keep the laptop I am using right now (Amilo Pi 3540) as I'm satisfied with the expansion packs and the cc I have in it. It is patched (not with the latest patch though) and I've got used to the lag. It's just for personal use so I don't mind if I wear it down. I use a netbook for school work and, considering that in the country I live in (Greece) we still haven't managed to incorporate technology in the education system efficiently, I do not need a very strong computer.
Desk top is not really a choice for the time being seeing as there is no space for it in my house... I'll start saving money though... I think.
Thanks for everything.
