Hey!

I'm having a question:

I want to build a restaurant and a café for my city. When I choose "restaurant" as lot-type, the it's a "no visitors allowed" lot ingame, not a restaurant lot. But when I choose "Bistro" than it's a lot my sims can visit. I want to make as much lots visitable as possible. I also have this problem with the hospital, the wellness center, the theatre, the stadium and the town hall. I want to build all these building by myself, no premade buildings...

When I choose "restaurant" in CAW, but "no visitors allowed" shows up ingame? Do the sims recognize this lot as restaurant and go there? Or do I have to use rabbithole mods?

I hope you understand my question and thanks for advices,
dapr51

PS: Excuse my bad english, I'm from Austria.

You cannot build your own rabbitholes without a mod, the only one I know of is Jinx's Rabbitholes. If you do not want to use a mod, you can build something on street level, build a basement and stick the rabbithole building in the basement using moveObjects on if too high, but your sim will still need to go to the basement to use the rabbithole location properly. And you must make sure the basement is big enough to cause no routing issues. I have heard that the basement method does eventually have routing problems though.

The only lots that you can build yourself are those listed when you click on the "Community Lot Type" button. As stated above, other lots - like the hospital - have to either be placed in a basement (with at least a couple of tiles all around the rabbit hole) or you have to use custom objects - like the rabbit hole rugs - which allow you to build you own lots. You can't use the generic "No Visitors Allowed" or "Visitors Allowed" lots to make your own city hall, etc. I prefer the basement method and have had no problems as long as I leave some room all around the rabbit hole. Of course, you must put a staircase and/or elevator so that the sims can get to the basement. Good luck!

There are a lot of lot types available in CAW that are not used in-game. Not sure why this is- for testing purposes, perhaps?

Anyway, the upshot of it is that you should use rabbitholes for the following:
City Hall
Spa
Theatre
Grocery
Bookstore
Bistro
Diner
Stadium
Police
Movie Backlot
Science
Business
Criminal
Hospital
School
Military
Equestrian Center

These are only for use in vacation worlds, and have no effect in a base world:
Market (Small/ Large)
Restaurant
Shop (Small/ Large)

If you place a rabbithole (for example, a bistro) then you can zone the lot however you like according to what you want to happen there.

If you want sims to visit and hang out, choose 'visitors allowed'.
If you want sims to use the rabbithole but not hang out at the lot, choose 'No Visitors allowed'.
If you want a dual purpose lot, you can choose another zone type- for example, your bistro can be sited on a park, or a beach, or a laundrette, or a club.
