Okay, so if I put this in the wrong place, I'm sorry. Been awhile since I navigated Modthesims2 for forum purposes.

My problem is with my samsung monitor. I was trying to run my launcher so I could test my mods/packages thing since I was working on getting my CC to work. A message popped up asking me if I wanted to install the latest patch for my sims store items, but when I tried to click "yes", it made a ding noise and nothing happened. It made the same ding noise when I tried clicking "no" and "later" and nothing happened. The box wouldn't go away either and when I tried closing the program nothing happened, so I shut down my computer.

When I tried turning on my computer a minute or so later, something wrong entirely began happening. My computer was running fine and even sounded like it had gotten to the desktop (because it made the happy turning on noise) but my monitor was all black ecept for a moving message that said:

Not Optimum Mode
Mode recommended:
1280x1024 60hz

I checked and everything was plugged in right, I tried restarting the computer again (pressing power button directly, duh), pressing the buttons on the monitor, pressing buttons on the keyboard, unplugging the monitor from power outlet, re plugging it in and restarting the computer, holding down F8 when restarting the computer/repeatedly pressing it to go into VGA mode or run on safe mode.
I tried reading help forums but everyone says to run it on VGA/Safe mode and change resolution to the recommended: 1280x1024 60hz. HOW??? NOTHING WORKS!
If someone could please explain this to me in english and not in tech talk, that would be awesome. I'm starting to go into rage fits which I'm sure isn't good for my blood pressure!
I have Windows Vista/7

My grandpa says that he thinks it's something wrong with my video card.

If you have a grandpa there can't be any problem with your blood pressure. I would just recommend serving your computer a big beef burger and a take a coffie for yourself.

Then if I was you I would start googling for your monitor's brand on the internet to get some answers from them. Not sure if this is the right place to ask :)

Restart in safe mode, then right click on the desktop, choose screen resolution. In the window that opens choose the resolution 1280x1024 (Recommended). Then click the okay button. Restart windows. Does this fix the issue?

Just in case you don't know how to start in safe mode, you press F8 as it is starting up.

Try HugeLunatic's suggestion first.

How are you connecting the Monitor?
HDMI or DVI? If HDMI, try DVI and vice versa?

If connection is not an issue (ie same outcome), do you have a spare monitor to rule out either the monitor or the graphics card is causing all this trouble?
What is the video card, by the way? What driver version? Post Game Help:System Specs, please.

What has changed on the PC before all this started? Moved the PC, upgrade something, install new programs, drivers, new updates, etc?
