View Full Version : Dark inside home

I've decided to start playing sims again and installed my new expansion pack sims 3 pets. Everything works fine, but something is bothering. It's really dark inside the houses! I don't think I've had this before...

Here a picture of a dark home:

Here a picture of a home I build before I had the pets expansion pack

I hope someone can shed some light on this weird situation? I tried adding lots of lamps and windows, but it didn't help much. I even reinstalled the whole game including the expansion packs (pets, ambitions, generations) and that didn't help either.

Check your game's options. Make sure the lighting setting is turned up.

All game options are the highest possible. I also did every update there is (I first didn't because updates can mess up the game so bad...)

Your images look fine to me- if you have no light fittings in a room with no windows (or small windows), it is intentionally dark.

Do you also think the first image is alright? It's so incredibly dark compared to the first... I mean, there is a door with a window and a lamp in the corridor and it is still dark. I've never experienced that before.

Doesn't it depend on the part of the day? I mean where the sun is.

both images look fine....that corridor looks fine too....i dont know what time of day it is in your game....but lighting changes
throughout the day in the game...depending on windows used...and lamps :)

I haven't played with sims in the house of the first image yet, so it's the standard time when you enter a house through build mode from the neighborhood. I used to play a lot of sims 3, but ALL the houses in the neighborhood are incredibly dark on the inside :/

It looks pretty typical on my end as well. Maybe your monitor settings are different than mine, though.

I don't think it's a monitor (or monitor setting) problem. Only inside it looks dark. Outside looks fine.... I'm clueless here!

I found a similar thread, but no solutions for me alas.... http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=344452

If you still want more lighting, you can always use the invisible lights in buydebug; they produce about the most light possible.

Lights won't be on unless a sim is in a dark room, or else you have switched the lights on.

The amount of light let into a room by a window varies according to the window- some of the EA windows let a lot of light in, some not so much.

When I placed the lamps the room became brighter, so I guess it did turn on because the room is so dark? I also tried lots of different windows, I even filled all the walls with windows, nothing helped. It looks like some kind of glitch to me

Emotedlama, I tried that too, but they aren't invisible. The square lamps stay visible on the ceiling and they do provide light, but the room doesn't become as bright as in the second photo I posted in my first post. Only the floors become remotely bright, the walls stay very dark :(

But did you then make them brighter...normally when lights are first placed there set at normal....brightness....

No I didn't, but then again, I never had to do that before. It's day... I'm not even supposed to have the lights on! *scratches head* Before I installed Pets, the light was very normal when I was building a house. I sometimes even forgot to add lamps because it was clear day.

I am going to try the lamp thing, but I don't think it's what I am searching for...

They're invisible in play mode, it's only in build/buy mode you can see them otherwise one wouldn't be able place or move them.
It takes awhile for game to fully light up thoose, how long it takes depends on how your computer can handle game.

Your pictures look fine to me, too but I think I know what you're talking about because I have the same problem.

If you turn all your lights off and then on again (while in playing mode) then the lights will work again. I have a problem with some homes that lose their lighting after a game has been saved and then replayed with the house. Buying new lights didn't fix the problem for me, but turning them off and then on again did fix it.

If you are building and its morning the the game...the lighting will be different than if your building say at 6pm or later...and it will be different if your building and its 3 am in your game....

Don't know, but it seems to me that the first looks dark or cold because does'nt have walls and floors warm colored as the second image and this is a thing that weight much on interiors lighthing.
