View Full Version : Alexander Goth going to college ...

His *going to college scene* featured Bella Goth sending him to college which kind of shocked me ... she could come back to send him to college but she's not present in his everyday life?

When I sent Beau Broke to college of course Brandy was there to give him a hug ... but that was normal he was still living with her and she was alive and playable.

Now what if the Sim going to college has no parents? Does anyone show up in the scene or are these pre-determined if that makes sense.

I don't normally take much notice of Bella stuff, but taking Alexander to college, that's interesting. I know unseen parents such as the genie can turn up in the take to college movie but I think an orphan would arrive at college alone.

Nobody shows up in the scene. It is just a slightly different scene.

I always add a little bit more time to Mortimer's lifespan and send Alexander to College the minute he hits teen. Moritmer does the college cut scene. I then move Alexander back into the house to take over the Goth Mansion when Mortimer dies.

For true orphans, they do it without the parents. For example both of Romeo and Mercutio Monty whose parents died before the game started, it shows them growing up on their own, and just them laughing at the streaker/cow.

Unfortunately Mortimor died awhile back ... so he didnt see Alexander go off to college.
I just thought it was odd that Bella was there ... I know she is *in* the game just not visible in Pleasantview unless you go through the method to find her and I dont really want to.

What seems to be the case is that, when running the cut scene, the program will select a parent if one is available and otherwise send the kid alone. Since, as you say, Bella is "in" the game she's a legitimate call as far as the program is concerned.

When sending multiple teens to college as one household, BTW, the scene is only run for one of them. I'm not sure what this is based on. I've only seen it happen twice, since the majority of my teens are sent into an existing household and/or go one at a time. When I first set up Alma Mater House, I got the cut scene for Sage Ann Onions and her father Red, with whom she shares an aspiration; at the end of the scene, I got a second taxi with the other five getting out and growing up one at a time. When I set up Scholarship House, Jovita Casa ran the scene with, I believe, her father Esteban. (Obviously the first one of these I saw made a deeper impression on me, since I'm not sure.) Jovita was also a Knowledge sim; her father is Fortune. I have no idea which parent either girl had a higher relationship with, and from a sample of two couldn't guess whether the selection is random among living parents or if preference is given to opposite-sex parents, parents living in the same household, or what.

I find it's typically the father that sees them off to college. At least when I play. If Dad's gone, then it's Mom.

Peni thats cool that you saw those other sims grow up! For me it only does it to the first person moving in the lot then the rest are already YA when I go into the lot.

No, my fugly Landgraab child had Malcolm when he went to college even though they met only once. Unfortunatley it was soon after a bad make-over and Malcolm had dreads and the smeared OFB make-up. Quite a heartwarming moment.

I dunno. My Sim's parents are usually both home. And this last time when I sent the Forsythe kids to College. Ursula took them all, and oddly enough. Ursula gave birth to Spencer and Aria. Were as Coraline gave birth to Toby and Jenna. So, I am not sure. Because both had very high relationship with both parents. My Sims must be picky, one thing for sure, one parent is constantly calling their kids -.-" Or showing up (I know its coincidence) downtown, when the kids are there. The parents are SO stalkers -.-"

I'm not sure how the game selects which parent sends them off - it might be a die-roll type thing. I remember being surprised to see Phoebe Vaughan taking Randolph Goth Jnr to college when he'd run away from home some time before and gone to live with his father (Randolph himself) with whom he got on much, much better - definitely a higher level relationship and by quite a long way.

I've posted this before but I'll post it again as a suggestion if you want to see the cut scene consistently. When I move teens to college, I move them first into a lot I call the Accommodation Office. This is, in fact, a mini-dorm with ONE student door in it though the lot is dressed up to look like a university administration building. It also contains that coat hook where you can buy any clothes on a home lot and a mirror. I move them in and always, then, see the cut scene. After that, I use the mirror and coat hook to get them re-dressed in something suitable for their characters and redo their hair/make up. Then they move out again and get moved into their regular dorm with the merge households option. This way, I get to see the scene (which is one I like) and change their appearance without cluttering up the regular dorm wardrobes with unwanted EAxis clothing. I should say also I always move sims to college individually.

After installing Inteen, the scene doesn't play in my game anymore, instead, the taxi will drop them off, and they still be teens, unless I ask them to grow up.

I did not even know the scene was possible until I got my current computer. I guess it depends on your video card.

No, your option for enabling special event cameras must have been disabled before on your older computer, all you need to do is go to options>camera>enabled special events camera.

I've found that with Inteen, dropping them off at a private residence makes it so they don't grow into YAs. Dropping them off at a dorm, you don't have that issue. At least that's if *I* have it installed.

I once "investigated" this which-parent-sees-the-kid-off-to-college thing 'cause I was curious, and the only common denominator for all my "test subjects" was that the parent who came was always the "senior", I mean the sim who was created earlier. Just like the sim with the smallest instance number is always the one who gets spied upon with the telescope. Could be a coincidence, but worked for me, 100 %.

I always move my teens into dorms one by one, so that I'll get the cut scene for everyone and can take pictures, and then move them back into the student bin, and then to a big dorm together. Takes more time and effort, but I want to see all of them arriving with their mom or dad, not just one.

maxon -- I love your idea of the administration office! I don't see the cut scenes often because i usually am just merging households when they go to college. I am definitely going to try that idea!

I just sent Alexander off to college. It was Mortimer, not Bella, that sent him off and gave him the tearful goodbye *sigh* I wish it had been Bella...
