I've been debating putting this thread in the Sims Discussion, even though it doesn't relate to direct gameplay, or the General Discussion, even though it does involve the Sims. In the end I decided to put it here.

So, what made you start playing Sims 3?

My story is that I was at a friend's Birthday Sleepover, and we basically played the Sims 2 on her PS2 for the entire duration of it. It was my first time every playing anything sim related. When I got home, I made the decision to buy it because I really liked it, so when I looked it up on amazon, the first thing that came up was Sims 3, and I thought "Ooh, an updated version would probably be better." So... I bought it! And even though it was COMPLETELY different from the game I originally wanted, I liked it a little bit better. And ever since then I've been obsessed with it. I eventually bought the Sims 2 also, and I like it a lot too.

The sleepover was about 2 years ago...

What's YOUR story?

I remembered playing Sims 2 a lot with my friend in primary school. And I saved up all my money to buy Sims 3 when it came out. And... yeah. I like it.

I played The Sims as a kid. Been playing the series for about... Almost ten years now, I think. I take breaks every now and then, but I think I'll always be a fan.

When I heard about The Sims 3 through TS2 Apartment Life, and I found out you could have a seamless neighborhood, shoes, and Create-a-Sim. I waited several months for it to come out, and then a month or two after it came out, I got it, and was hooked ever since.

I'm a games reviewer, and I got a special deal where I could get it early and stuff, so I got it that way. However, I didn't end up getting it until a little bit after launch, a couple days I believe, because we needed gas for our car first.

Scholastic book club in elementary school back in 2000, I saw The Sims; and because I played Sim City back then I went zomg I get to play the actual people and control their lives! Have been hooked ever since, and I'm never gonna leave. I like playing with virtual dolls

It was the next in the series. I'd played Sim City, TS1 and TS2, so there were no doubts that I'd be buying Sims 3.

I bought the console version of The Sims 2 when I was in 7th or 8th grade (2007) and loved that; I got the Pets version, too. I stopped playing for a while but then in 2010 I started playing again and found I really enjoyed building. I built a bunch of random houses (with the super-ugly stuff, no CC!) and then I heard about the computer version. I bought The Sims 2 (PC version) in September of 2010 (I'm always late to the party!) and then got all the EPs and SPs, and I was hooked! I played a lot and built a lot--everything from igloos to gingerbread houses to beach shacks. And I found CC and downloaded over 8,000 things! But then last summer (2011) I saw The Sims 3 and thought, that looks nice...look at the graphics and create-a-style! So I researched it a bit, saved up my $50, and bought a copy of The Sims 3: Deluxe at Wal-Mart. At first I hated it, and swore I'd give it up. But after playing for about 2 weeks I found I liked it even better than The Sims 2 and I've been hooked ever since. :) (Building mostly, though, because I enjoyed the playing style of TS2 more.)

I started playing TS1 back in 2001 because it was so different from all the other games I love building/designing homes. Then on top of that creating virtual people was awesome just couldn't pass that up,been playing every since. Also I think TS1 has the best music out of all the franchises it cheesy yet catchy at the same time.

A cousin showed me (The Sims 3) back in 2009. Back them, I considered it a "girly game" for its dollhouse-kind of gimmick. But, after going hands on the game, looking at how much could be done at the (albeit limited) options of CAS, and the fact I could create some of my favourite characters on it, and what kinds of weird shenanigans I could do with them, I got hooked on it like if it was some kind of drug.

I played Sims 1 back when I was in middle school. My grandmother would actually play with me and we even occasionally, jokingly, talked to each other in Simlish.

When I was in college I played The Sims 2 a lot and that was when I first became a frequent, yet unsubscribed member, of MTS. I thoroughly enjoyed it. When I heard about TS3, I tried the online version before the launch and hated it! To be fair, whatever that thing was they called a trial is nothing like the actual game. It mostly just reading and clicking things without watching the interactions. Because of that, I swore I wouldn't get the new version. Then, new downloads started popping up on MTS and, having become a full-fledged (addicted daily) member, I started to feel torn.

Long story short, my husband finally surprised me with the game for my birthday. I played it for approximately half an hour. I hated it. I went back to TS2 and had no desire to go back. Then MTS hosted the official foundation contest and I decided to enter since I enjoyed building and like a challenge. It didn't hook me per se but I did like building because of the infinite possibilities with CAST. Then I read a legacy and the rest is history, as they say!

I start playing The Sims seriously since The Sims Bustin' Out was released for PS2, then..

- The Urbz (PS2)
- The Sims 2 (PC)
- The Sims 2 (PS2)
- The Sims 2 Pets (PS2)
- The Sims castaway (PS2)

So of course I have to play The Sims 3, lol  not to mention it's an awesome game:P

I remember the first time I watch a review about The Sims 3 on TV I was like "OMG OMG SO AWESOMEEEEH!"

I started playing TS3 because I played the TS2 and before that I had played TS1 when I was in sixth grade. I don't remember asking for it but I do remember first seeing it as product placement for an episode of TRL that wasn't in its regular New York studio but outside and I remember being excited to see Aaliyah perform.

I first started with The Sims 1 on PS2, I was about 8 or 9. The first time I played The Sims 1 on a PC was at a sleepover, and my friend was like "Oh I think we have the Spanish Version" she didn't know that they spoke Simlish. :faceslap:

I became addicted, I then got Bustin' out for Gamecube. Then Urbz came out, and in the game case was an advertisement for The Sims 2. I bought it when it came out, played all the way up to the The Sims 3 release, and uninstalled everything involving TS2(big mistake). My friends and I just couldn't wait for TS3, but I was very disappointed because it was too demanding for my laptop at the time, so I couldn't really enjoy it.
Now I play both games.
It's crazy to think that I've been playing the sims for half of my life(10/11 years).

I first watched my mom play The Sims one when I was around 5
She would play it for hours, and I would just sit there and watch her for hours because it was so fun LOL
But she wouldn't let me play because I was too young :/

Then, one day I sneaked on it and I was hooked on the game forever! :D

Then The Sims 2 came out, and I played that throughout middle school

I first heard of The Sims 3's open neighborhood and THAT'S what got me super excited for the game for some reason >.>
I was so excited to actually go to the hospital and have the mom's baby! Couldn't wait to actually walk your sim over to a neighbor's house and watch them go to work :)
And the universal aging!!!!!

That's almost exactly how I got started too! From PS2 to PC through a friends sleepover. Oh except I was 11 and my friend did not think the Sims native tongue was spanish haha...

I had a PS2 for Christmas when I was about 12/13. My parents bought me "The Sims" game for it, I loved it. I then decided to buy The Sims for PC and got addicted :') I was also addicted to The Sims 2. I just bought The Sims 3 because I loved the series.

I think I liked it because I had never played a game like it before. I mostly played RPG's and shizz.

They came for me in the middle of the night. I don't know how many of them there were, but they put a hood over my head, tied my hands behind my back, and tossed me in the trunk of their car. It seemed like they drove all night. When they took the hood off my head I was in a windowless room with only a bare lighbulb in a small fixture in the ceiling and a computer with Sims 3 installed. There is a man with a gun in the room with me to make sure I continue to play Sims 3. I'm allowed five minutes once a day for a meal of stale bread and smelly water. I sleep on a pile of dirty rags in the corner. I am so jealous of the sims who live in the beautiful homes created by EA.

Help me!

Sims 2 was really cheap on Amazon so I gave it a go. Loved it and six months later tried out Sims 3.

I started playing simulated games with the original SimCity back in 1989. I loved that game, I got all the add ons to go with it and of course every SimCity game since. On one of my SimCity games, I think it was SimCity 3000. I saw a card for The Sims game. I thought... oh looks kinda interesting and just promptly forgot about it. Then I got SimCity 4, in the box I saw an ad for The Sims Online and I'm like.. ok that's going TOO FAR. I'm never ever going to play The Sims. By this time, my husband and I were heavily into MMORPG's.

Fast forward to summer 2007 and my husband who's was impatiently waiting for his Madden NFL game to be released was looking for a new game to play on his PS2. He came home with The Sims 2 and I'm like... are you kidding me? But he started playing and was having a great time. I watched. I don't play console games so I just watched. Then around Thanksgiving, one of his co-workers told him about The Sims 2 PC version. His wife had been looking for a standalone game to play that wasn't intimidating as a full blown MMORPG - something to do while her husband was online. The selling point for my husband was you could make babies in the PC version. So, in December, I got my Christmas present early. My computer was dying a slow and painful death and we'd already talked about getting a new computer for me (he got a new one in the summer). So I got my computer and he got his Sims 2 Double Deluxe with Night Life and BonVoyage. He was so happy with his new shiny. I watched and just shook my head. I wasn't going to touch this game with a 10 foot pole.

Then that fateful day when he got a call to come to work for a few hours because one of the guys had an emergency at home. He was in the middle of something... so he asked if I could save the game after and just shut down the game. Off to work he went and I saved his game. But instead of shutting down, I thought, ok, I'll go make me a female sim and just give it a go. So that's what I did. When he walked back in the house 4 hours later, I was busted :D I got my own Sims 2 Double Deluxe with Night Life and BonVoyage for Christmas all wrapped up under the tree. Haven't looked back since. Sims 3 was just the next logical progression and on launch day June 2009, we had 2 shiny new copies of The Sims 3 in the house :)

I was hooked on playing second life (because I love the idea of virtual dolls!), while in my first year of college. When I moved back home for the summer, we had no internet access. I went to the library and looked online for offline versions of the game, but couldn't find any. That's when I came across the Sims 3. I watched a few trailers for it on youtube, and a couple of gameplays, and was instantly hooked! I saved up some money, sold some books, and went to Amazon and bought it!

I started when my friend Wes played the Sims at her house, and then we later played Sims 2. All of my friends love the sims. A lot of them have accounts on here too (I showed them this site) :)

I heard it announced, preordered it, and then agonized over the wait with the folks over at the EA UK Sims forum...all while hoping that they never found out that I wasn't actually from the UK. (My son wants us to relocate there, but we still have to figure out what to do with his father. It's a sticking point.)

Then one-by-one, we all loaded up the base game and experienced various forms of hell. My first sim baby was kidnapped by a neighbor, never to be seen again, and a birthday cake burned the whole house down. It was one WTF moment after the other. And just when I began to question my purchase, the modding community came to the rescue. For that, I am truly thankful.

A friend of mine was really into The Sims. He created a Kristy (me) sim and she was married to a Seth Green sim! I couldn't resist and bought the game to try it. I remember being in baby hell for awhile until I got the hang of taking care of them. I didn't buy Sims 2 when it came out, I said to myself "I'll never play it." The one day I got it and didn't stop playing it. Discovered custom content and I was hooked! When Sims 3 came out, I had pre ordered it and bought the guide. Looooove it.

I was bored with my usual games, so my boyfriend decided to surprise me with the Sims 2. (none of us knew anything about it to be honest, just that it was a popular game). I hated it from the second I tried it. Unfortunately I didn't want to hurt my boyfriends feelings, so I forced myself to play it from time to time, telling him that I enjoyed the game.
One day I got home he told me he had a surprise for me. It turned out to be the Sims 3. At this point I should have told him how much I hated Sims 2, but instead I said; Oh thanks, how great!
It was a big surprise to me that I not only liked it, I loved it. Usually not the best way, but lying actually got me playing the Sims 3.

I gave it a shot since I'm a hardcore sims 2 fan. Stayed for the open world and customization options, got bored with the actual gameplay itself and went back to 2 for a few years. I recently decided to give the sims 3 another chance but with an assload of custom content and I am legitimately enjoying it. I can't play it for hours on end like I can with the sims 2 but I make it work.

I've been playing the Sims series since I was about 12 and my nanny (or grandma to americans) bought me the first Sims 1 game for my birthday. Since then I'd been collecting all the Sims 1 and 2 games, but when Sims 3 came out and I saw people's reviews and screenshots I decided I didn't want to play it since the Sims looked like pudding and I was far too attached to my Sims 2 families. But then my brother bought Sims 3 and a few expansions and after watching him play for a couple of months, I decided to give it a go. And it was SO much better than I expected! I still miss Sims 2 though, it doesn't work on my new computer. But at least I have Sims 3 to keep me company. :)

I was at a friends and she told me all about the Sims Life Stories. I thought it sounded crappy till I played it. When I went home I got the Sims Life Stories got bored when I finished the stories and filled up all the towns bought Sims 2, Sims 3 wasn't out. I kept making excuses to buy nearly all the EPs and not The Sims 3 and only looked at bad comments so I wouldn't want it. I made the mistake of looking at some pictures of The SIms 3 and saw the graphics looked great compared to what the graphics on the Sims 2 were (my computers not the best) so I caved in abought it :) I tried to go back to Sims 2 but everything felt so cramped :(

My story's pretty simple: I've been an avid Simmer since S1. I bought S3 partly because of the updated graphics and the new sandbox worlds, but mostly because of story progression and the ability to fully customize your Sims with their own unique personality. The CAS traits, especially, have spoiled me and, as much as I loved S2, I can't see myself ever going back to it because my Sims would be automatons in comparison. lol.

The open world and Story Progression. Man, what a delusion.

I liked the idea of a life simulation, but the previous two chapters seemed limited with the isolated lots and the rest of the world kinda frozen while your household changes and grows.

The living world. Gone are the Sims 2 days of trying to keep a family in three separate houses aging together. I remember one time I lost track of my house playing order and one of my sims died of old age before his father

I got the Sims for my birthday when I was 11, and when TS2 came out, I got that, along with my best friend. When Sims 3 came out, my mom bought it for me. As soon as it was annouced, I asked my mom for it, so she agreed if I waited a few weeks after getting it to play.

My mom had sims 2. my computer then wasn't able to handle some of the high end graphics of some of the games I like to play at the time. Bought just about all the sp and eps for the sims2.. It became my secret addiction. When sims 3 came out just had to try. Bad economy and unable to build a gaming rig.

It's my sick twisted addiction now.. Must play to see how twisted and sick I can make a sim. Though I think the sims return the favor at times. How can a sim run dead smack into a fire with the genius trait.. And why does Judy Bunch go after every male sim I play??

The wife plays her FB games. Farmville? And I am the sick one for playing with virtual dolls and virtual doll houses? Really?? I do not talk about sims 3. The last time I did I got weird looks.. So I keep my addiction to myself.

I started playing The Sims on the Gamecube, then my brother gave me his copy of TS2 when he moved to Milwaukee for college, and I played it almost nonstop. When I heard that TS3 was coming out, I had to get it. I played it a lot more a year ago, though. I want to get the expansion packs, but I'm currently living on a budget and don't have an extra $300 to spend on TS3 stuff.

I Started out playing Sims 2 on ps2, I enjoyed it but after hearing how much better it was on pc, I got that and played for years until I got bored of it, so I stopped playing (and it was crashing a lot). I'm a one household at a time player, and the Sims 2 didn't fit that play style, so after the Sims 3 came out, I wanted it but we couldn't afford it at the time. Then one day on vacation on lake Tahoe, my brother wouldn't get in the water because it was too cold, and wanted someone to get in before him. After hearing him whine for awhile, my mom got tired of it and told me she would buy Sims 3 for me if I got in the water first. I've been playing ever since. I never got to enjoy any sims 2 mods or very much CC, as all I knew about was the exchange, so I'm sure my experience could have been way better.

I started playing Sims 1 in 2008 and, on the first night it was installed, I stayed up ALL NIGHT. I didn't sleep. I created the cast of Cloverfield and put them in a house together. Everyone was so unhappy and they got robbed so often!

I started playing Sims 1 because my friend would talk about how fun it was to play her sim game. I didn't know there was a Sims 2, so I ended up picking up the Sims 1 base game. It was fun, but it sounded so much different than the game that she was describing. I didn't know that she was actually talking about Sims 2. So I hunted down Sims 2 and a few expansions. My first family was Romeo and Juliet, who were so very much in love with each other, and they ended up having twins. Shortly after the birth of her children, Juliet was abducted by aliens! I was freaking out and didn't know what to do so I made Romeo call the police and report a crime... then they fined me for a false report! Romeo was trying to balance taking care of twin babies while Juliet's status bars kept bouncing around all over the place! Then, suddenly, she was dropped out of the sky into their backyard!

It was SO MUCH fun! I was addicted after that. I bought all the Sims 2 EPs and SPs and even got into some custom content of my own. When I heard that Sims 3 was coming out, I was super excited and followed all the news. I bought it shortly before Christmas of the year it was released and, while I had a hard time adjusting to the comparatively stripped gameplay from Sims 2 and all the packs PLUS all the CC that I had downloaded, it soon became pretty fun.

oh, the shinies.
all of the shinies.

the game looked so much better than sims2. faces werent so blocky and unnaturally angular, the sky is a SKY and it CHANGES omgar, the open neighborhood looked amazing, the colors were so vivid yet so natural-looking...

just how SHINY everything was. im a very visual person, so this crap matters to me.
now i just cant go back to sims2. sims3 is way shinier. also, i cant handle not being able to pick out and customize my outfits/body shapes. /spoiled!
