MTS Modding Beginner Help!

I'm new to the whole modding thing and I was wondering about the MTS link: http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Installing_Sims_3_Package_Files/Setup_and_Files
I've done everything like what the steps say but the "nointro" and "nosparkles" .package files aren't seeming to work for me. Is there anything at all that I could possibly be doing wrong? And also, my Sims 3 game is the 3.0.38.004001 version (should it be updated?) if that has anything at all to do with this?
