View Full Version : A question about story progression in self-created neighborhood

Hmm... I've thought of something lately.
I've downloaded a couple of empty neighborhoods (Riverview, Twinbrook, Appaloosa etc. just empty) and of course i began to create homes and families to populate my new neighborhoods... :lovestruc
But there's just something I don't understand? I heard a lot of people talking about story progression and how it just deletes people and age them too fast and stuff..
So, when I create a home for my Sim couple and their toddler-daughter, what happens when she grows older? How does she get a bed, does the toddler crib get replaced...? What about the furniture?! What about when the couple get one more baby?
(I mean... if i play another family than this one ^, and the toddler grows older and they get a new baby or something)
What happens?! I don't want them to move out from the house I created specifically for them....
Argh... So confusing... I really tried to find answers to my questions but I just don't think anything about this makes any sense. :(

EA's story progression doesn't replace beds with cribs and it doesn't add cribs whenever new babies join the family, but I'm pretty sure one of Twallan's (http://nraas.wikispaces.com/) mods (probably his version of SP) has a home checker to see if there's enough beds/cribs for the members of the family, and if there's not, it'll move them to another home with the needed furnishings. I'm not totally sure though, I haven't checked out all of SP's features.
If I were you, I'd download a Story Progression replacement cause EA's kind of sucks. :)

I rely on an EA bin house from the base game as my go-to house for non-played families. I think it's called 'Ever'. It has three bedrooms plus a nursery, two and a half baths, etc. Basically, everything a non-played home needs. It's not pretty, and pales in comparison to the beautiful homes created by players, but I've taken to using it as the basis for housing developments so I don't have a problem with my town not having enough space to handle the population.

The game AI will not purchase new furniture or cribs or anything for the inactive households. But I have never observed the EA story progression moving out families or moving them to some other house because of a lack of beds or cribs or whatever.
All the inactives don't actually need the furniture stuff anyway, because what happens is that when they are at home, their motives are simply updated, renewed. They get their hunger, sleep etc. replenished without having to do the actual actions. This is why when you pan the camera past some of the houses, you can see the inactives standing inside the front door, getting their needs replenished, they don't actually do anything.
It's different if you take your sim visiting them, then your sim is on the lot and the AI takes them over and starts doing stuff with them, because you, the player, are there now on that lot.
So I don't even worry about the situation you are concerned with, it's irrelevant; the inactives won't get hurt by not having cribs or beds enough or whatever. As a practical matter, what I do is take my sim visiting and check out the house; I use the shift+click and Buy On This Lot, to get into Buy Mode on their lot and buy the crib or bed, the cat toys, a guitar, easel, whatever; so my sim fixes up the house for them while visiting, you might say.
