View Full Version : Should I give up and sell my Sims games?

I hope this is a decently appropriate place to post this.

Okay, so I have The Sims 3, plus World Adventures, Ambitions, Late Night, Generations, Pets, Showtime, Fast Lane Stuff (currently not installed), Outdoor Living Stuff, and High-End Loft Stuff. I also have over 100 mods, about 200 .package files, and probably about 200 .sims3pack files. My computer now has 2 GB of RAM and a Radeon X1650 Series video card.

My game runs kind of (okay, painfully) slow. So slow, in fact, that it is a burden to play and I never bother actually playing because from the kitchen to the grocery store, there is a huge amount of lag and I have to wait just about forever for all the objects to "snap back" into place (from their grey, mesh-like state, that is.) It only takes about 2 minutes to do the first loading screen, but to load a fully populated/decorated world (Sunset Valley, Riverview, etc.) it takes about 10 minutes. I do build because that's bearable, but it still takes a long time just for the catalogs and patterns to load.

What I want to know is: are my computer's requirements decent enough that a few changes would make the game playable again? (Deleting CC or using CC Magic, cutting down on .sims3pack files, lowering graphics settings, etc.) [When I have played with no CC it loads somewhat faster, but I don't really want to play with no CC at all.] I have another computer that I could possibly use that has 4 GB of RAM but also a very crappy graphics card (one of the attached ones), so I'd have to buy a new one I guess. If anyone could help, I'd just like an honest opinion on whether I should make a few changes, try and switch to the new computer, or give up completely.

Thank you for your time!

The first step is to give us your system specs:

My computer now has 2 GB of RAM and a Radeon X1650 Series video card.

With EPs Pets and later (and the equivalent patches) you really need 4 gb of ram. Also, that graphics card only has a "Yes" for the base game on the system requirements (http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:TS3_System_Requirements).

Both of those parts are easily upgradeable on a desktop, however.

Do post your full specs, though. Also, is this a desktop or laptop?

That's the basic stuff, and I also attached the detailed summary (it said on the Wiki that I might need that when talking about upgrading.) Also, my computer is a desktop, as is the other one. Thanks for your help!

ETA: Also, my computer that I'm playing on now has already been upgraded once. And we've had it since 2006 or 2007 I think.
