I have enjoyed participating as a contestant and judge so much that I thought I would try hosting a contest. So here goes...

Qualifications to Host:
I have been a contestant in Jones’ Pleasantview (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=487463), Veronaville (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=498452), and Build a Business (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=505488), and a contestant and judge in Loaf's It Takes a Village (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=510458&c=1&ht=&page=1&pp=25#startcomment)

Concept:
To build a university campus, from the dorm to the library. For some rounds you will be given the outside walls, others just the empty lot. You will need to choose what subjects your university specialises in for example Arts, Science or Sport and build your campus to reflect the specialism. There will be six rounds. University is required for this contest.

Requirements:
Game:
The University EP is required.

Simmers
Simmers with any skill level are more than welcome to come and join in the fun. Although some experience of building, decorating and taking good quality screenshots would be an advantage.

Judges
I would like two judges please (I will be the third) and one emergency judge. Please post an image of a building that you have built and decorated yourself in this thread. Judges will be expected to have their round scores in within a week of the round closing.

Judge 1, Judge 2, Judge 3, Emergency Judge
Catherine TCJD, Joandsarah77, Karen Lorraine, Klaartje68

Rules:

The only defaults allowed are roofs, and floor and wall edgers in both CC and no CC rounds
All images must meet MTS Screenshot (http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=MTS2:Creator_Guidelines/Lots_and_Houses) guidelines.
All but the first image must be placed under [ SPOILER ] tags. You are allowed a maximum of 10 images per round, to include a front image and floor plan of each floor.
Each round will last for two weeks.
And finally, have fun!

Refectory (with at least 2 tables and 4 chairs)
Study room (with at least 1 bookcase and 2 computers)
Socialising/fun area (with at least 2 fun activities and 1 sofa)
2 items that reflect your chosen specialism.

You may add:
Up to 12 pieces of extra foundation (any style) (Please make it clear where these have been added.)
Up to 12 pieces of extra outside wall (Please make it clear where these have been added.)

Round 2
Choose a venue from the available list and create it. Don’t forget to ensure it goes with your chosen theme and all the required elements are included. This round is a no CC round except for floors and walls and the allowed defaults. You may build an extra floor above the tower and you may add another 20 pieces of wall to your lot.

Round 3
Choose something to build from the list of Campus Venues It must be something that you have not built before. Do not forget to follow the theme that you chose in your first round. And do not forget to include the requirements for the lot that you have chosen to build. Remember there are 5 bonus points up for grabs if you build without CC and 5 bonus points if you manage to use the Random Object.

You may:
Use whatever CC you wish
Add whatever other buildings you wish as well
Add whatever steps you need
Add a roof
Remove one of the archways
Replace the arches with doors or a different 2 tile arch.

You must:
Incorporate the building already built on the lot into your build, either joined up or separated.
Not remove or replace the tree.

Have fun!

Round 4
Choose something to build from the list of Campus Venues. It must be something that you have not built before. Do not forget to follow the theme that you chose in your first round. And do not forget to include the requirements for the lot that you have chosen to build. Remember there are 5 bonus points up for grabs if you build without CC and 5 bonus points if you manage to use the Random Object.

This round is a no CC round (except for floors, walls and defaults as outlined in the first post).

You may:
add up to 12 extra external walls
add up to 12 extra tiles of foundation

You may not:
add any extra floors

Round 05
For this round you have a larger lot and just a foundation. As per the other rounds there are a few rules to follow.

You must not

Use any extra foundation unless it is for deco purposes – raised flower bed, to place a statue
Use any extra walls outside of the foundation supplied

You may

Use half walls
Have up to 3 storeys and one extra picture for the third storey
Custom content may be used.

You must include

A water feature using either the pool or the pond
At least one outside terrace that is on the existing foundation

Have fun!

Round 06

Since this is the last round I thought I’d go for something completely different. So for this round you may choose your own size of lot.

Please choose two or three venues from the list supplied (you may choose venues that you have already built). Do not forget to follow the theme that you chose in your first round. And do not forget to include the requirements for the lots that you have chosen to build.

Please use CC in this round, there are no bonus points for not using it. There is no Random object to find this round either.

You may have 12 images for this final round.

Have fun!

I know what I will be doing tonight :D Karen, before I make my final decision, I have one question. If I decided to apply for emergency judge, would I still be allowed to be a contestant? (And then of course drop out when judging is needed.)

Hiya Karen - WOOT! A new contest :D I think I'd like to try my hand at judging this time around...
here is a linksie (http://www.modthesims.info/showpost.php?p=4253517&postcount=529) to a house I built and decorated from Loaf's contest (I hope it's OK to post a link instead of a picture?) I can, of course, post a picture, if need be ;)

I promise to have my scores in on time!

I'm only mobile, net wise, for today, but really wanna start this. What size is the lot, and how far away from the side does the right side start. Is it ok if I just recreate this one? Doesn't really look like anything tricky to recreate.

Can I be a judge?

Since this is a university and this is the only university building I have ever done, here is my Cubic Metre Dorm

A couple of questions...

1. Could I just play along for fun, without being judged or having deadlines? We're in the busiest part of the year at work, and I don't want to feel pressured with my relaxing fun in the evenings.
2. To clarify, what do you mean by "what subjects your university specializes in"? Do you mean general flavor, like "this is a party school," "this is an Ivy League," or "this is a community college"? Or do you mean hard-core focus like "this is MIT" or "this is the Academie des Beaux-Arte"?

trambling101
16th Jan 2014, 4:20 AM
Omg! This is so interesting and I think I am going to try to enter in this contest. I have just one question, are we supposed to pick one unit of study? Or like multiple? Or like one to match each building we make?

justJones
16th Jan 2014, 11:12 AM
Ok, another question. If we use some of the allotted extra foundation and walls to extend the building (the tiny bit it allows, lol), are we allowed to remove the original wall that has now become an interior wall? I hope that makes sense...And is stage ok? Like not counting towards the extra foundation?

Phaenoh

Oh I'm *so* in. Thank you jones for letting me know about this! It's just what I need to kickstart my uni-hood (http://www.phaenoh.blogspot.com/search/label/University%20Hood)!

Is there a special application round, or just get your dorm in before 20 other people do?

Do the areas have to be seprite rooms No Colin, they can be one big room if you want it to be.

Sorry it's taken so long to answer these questions, will try harder next time.

Or do you mean hard-core focus like "this is MIT" or "this is the Academie des Beaux-Arte"?Yes, Esme, you can play along if you would like to. Can you post your playalong after the deadline and make it clear that it is a playalong in your text please, especially for this round :) Uni specialisms are: Arts, Science and Sport, so gear your uni up to those main subjects. The uni major subjects are in brackets below the specialisms. So, for example, if you were building an Arts uni, you might ensure there was an easel or a pottery wheel or dance barre on site.

Omg! This is so interesting and I think I am going to try to enter in this contest. I have just one question, are we supposed to pick one unit of study? Or like multiple? Or like one to match each building we make?Hello trambling, welcome, it would be good to have you on board. Choose a theme eg Arts, Science or Sport, and gear your uni up to one of those main subjects.

Ok, another question. If we use some of the allotted extra foundation and walls to extend the building (the tiny bit it allows, lol), are we allowed to remove the original wall that has now become an interior wall? I hope that makes sense...And is stage ok? Like not counting towards the extra foundation?yes you can remove the external wall because it then becomes an internal wall when you use your extra bit of wall. Yes stage is ok to use.

Is there a special application round, or just get your dorm in before 20 other people do?No application round, so get your Round 1 Dorm in before everyone else does, Phae :)

I would like to be an emergency judge so I can still enjoy the contest and help out when necessary.Thank you, Klaartje :) I will add you in as an emergency judge, let's hope we don't have to use you.

Well, I think I answered all the questions, phew!

Oh and by the way Jones: Congratulations! http://www.simthing.net/tbt/smileys/rock.gifhttp://www.simthing.net/tbt/smileys/bliss.gifhttp://www.simthing.net/tbt/smileys/yay.gif

5 point bonus award for the use of no CC in CC rounds (awarded once).
10 Point bonus if you can add in the ‘random secret item’ that will be revealed after the close of each round (awarded once).

With the 'awarded once', do you mean that you can only get it for one out of 6 rounds? For instance, if I use no CC in round 1, I will not get bonus points if I again choose to use no CC in a later round. Or is it that you receive 5 points added to the final score per round and not 5 points from each judge?

Thank you Karen for such a warm welcome. I have been viewing the past few Sims 2 building contests and I finally decided to join this one, I have been working on my entry since I discovered it! And I am proud to present the groundbreaking of.....

Miliken Community College!

A little backstory is behind this including a bit about me. Hi I'm Seth! I have been playing Sims 2 for many many years, and I have come a long way to become the player that I am today. I'm 17, and I just applied to university for Engineering and Mathematics. I own an Apple computer, and I always have, so I have always been limited to the Sims 2 expansion packs. They only made up to BV for mac, so I miss out on the wonderful add-ons brought in by FT and AL. I just want the judges to know that, because I get limited to some of the CC available on mts, and miss out on a lot of other great downloads. Also, I am unable to get a lot of the great maxis items released in the two other expansions and stuff packs. As well, it was incredibly difficult to take pictures of the interior of my building, because I do not have that special option given in AL. Now the history behind MCC, Miliken is one of my neighbourhoods in desperate need of a university to call their own. I have been working on Miliken for over a year now and it is now highly populated with many powerful families. Most of these families have gone to the generic Sim State, but I never really liked it because I didn't make any of the buildings. So this contest is really the push that I need! So here it is, my first entry :
The Frant House
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/1/9/8/6/3/6/5/MTS_trambling101-1408007-1.1.jpg
The Frant House, a 5 room Dormitory apart of MCC, is named after one of the very powerful and rich families of Miliken, the Frant family. The Frants are very knowledgable sims and worked hard to get to the richness that they are now, and I am sure they would donate a whole bunch of simoleons to the construction of a university. Because of the programs I decided to pursue next year, I felt that I should make a university that matches the unit of study that I want to pursue, Sciences. So thank you very much for reading my two blurbs, and I hope you like my entry!

I added 4 pieces of foundation to the front of the building, 4 pieces to the back, and 4 to the left of the building. The 12 wall pieces have been added on top of the 4 foundation pieces placed to the left of the building. The following images include : The Kitchen, The Library, The Work Room, The TV Room, A Sample Dorm Room, and a view inside one of the Washrooms.

That's a nice dorm, Seth, and welcome to your first contest! I'm pretty sure though, that Karen and/or the judges will ask you if it's possible to turn up your graphics settings. If it causes your game to run poorly, you can always set them higher, just for the pics, then set them back to where they were.

EDIT: Or not, lol. Since Karen didn't mention it. ;)

Thank you so much and so sorry, the game won't let me do so in windowed mode, the largest the window is is 800x600 pixels. I tried to make the pictures larger but I also had to reduce the quality of them because they surpassed the 800kb limit.

You don't have a window option bigger than that? Hmmm, I've just done a little research and that seems to have been something other players have had issues with. Let me investigate some more, that is if you would be interested in having other sizes...

Ok, if you want other options and are comfortable editing game files, here is a solution (http://simonhampel.com/the-sims-2-resolution-problems-solved/). It seems to be the most used solution to this problem. If you don't want to mess with it, that's ok too. Just giving you the option :)

Yeah I know, maybe it's because I am operating on an old Macbook Pro laptop. I have a screen to plug it in to, and maybe if I try to play in windowed mode on that screen it may let me use a larger resolution and therefore better quality & larger pictures! Hopefully I'll try that and it'll work for next round

AND I WAS RIGHT! On my external screen I am able to select up to 1440x900 pixels! Perfect!

Can you tell that I'm a total newbie when it comes to contests?

Sorry, I should have spelt things out a little more exactly. For CC usage -

1. There are free, but limited availability CC (e.g. you need to be a member of a forum, and/or post a certain number of times, etc)
2. TSR - although it's now free, is it considered a free site?
3. self-made CC that is not uploaded anywhere.

1 and 3 are not issues for MTS uploading, but could be considered an issue for contests/challenges because of a level playing field. (I couldn't find a page for contest CC, only creator guidelines). (1, is a time issue, rather than a money issue).

I'm assuming that putting aside the whole ethical thing of pay/free, that the additional reason for free CC, is to make it a level playing field - hence the reason I'm asking.

Question 2:
I've had some interest at a forum I go to, to see pictures of the dorm.
I'm again assuming, that I shouldn't be posting them anywhere else until they're actually submitted here first. That way its all my own work, etc.

Once they have been submitted here, is it OK to post them up elsewhere? Or should I direct them to this thread to look at?

Question 3:
How much of a blurb can I can do? (I can get wordy). And will it affect the scores if I get too wordy?
an example of a blurb (http://simvanniawaters.blogspot.com.au/2013/05/tours-abandoned-diner.html#more)

Karen - can they edit their entries right up until the deadline? Yes, contestants can edit their pictures up to the deadline.

trambling101: I would edit and replace your images if you can because the more we can see the more points you'll get but we don't mark on image quality.

2. TSR - although it's now free, is it considered a free site?
3. self-made CC that is not uploaded anywhere. You can use all of these types of CC, Kiri, as long as you don't pay for it it's fine. We follow MTS guidelines (http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=MTS2:Creator_Guidelines/Uploads_NOT_allowed_on_MTS) in the contest.

Like which pictures? I already mentioned to Jones that I figured out how to solve my issue, because I took the original pictures on my laptop on the highest setting but those were still not-so-good quality. I figured out that by plugging my laptop into an external screen it allows me to select a much better quality to play on. I already replaced a few of the pictures that I could tell were horrible quality to me, but just let me know which other ones and I'll get too it! I just don't want to retake all of them because I don't have AL, so I don't have that fancy option to take those nice in-room pictures.

Is it lack of ceilings? If so, make sure your camera angle is low enough so that you can't see the sky. I would urge you to retake them, trambling because they were very pixellated, which makes it hard to see the detail in your rooms. :) Your uni looks good, why not make it look even better!

If you can't get your pictures clearer, can you get the overheads closer? Right now they are so far away I'm not seeing things too well. With the inside make sure to take shots that help us see the best parts of the rooms and pull back once or twice with the x key if need be. Another tick is to delete a wall, snap your shot and hit the back key which will replace the wall. This helps in those tight spaces.

The main thing is the last two shots. If you could at least go right down as close as possible to the building before snapping the picture. The grounds could be on one separate side shot. Only as it is now I'm going to have a hard time judging from those floor plan shots.

I completely understand, but what I was trying to do was to not surpass the 10 picture limit, I was trying to include the most I could in the least amount of pictures possible. I promise to fix them as soon as I can!

I read in the "How to take a Proper in-game Screenshot" thing to open the game in windowed mode and take a computer screen shot from there, which is what I do. If you read everything before about my low quality pics, I found the solution to my issue, so there is no need to worry!

Lee Thank you for noticing my beautiful bookcases! They're your creation after all, and I use them in almost every sim home I furnish. And I guess you're right..

Klaartje68 Thank you so much for your warm welcome!

I'm so torn about this contest. I want to join, but I'm having a hard time reconciling the rules and requirements with what I have planned for my uni hood. This dorm shell is so small compared to all my other dorms! I had planned on making a more 'upscale' dorm that is more apartment style, but I was really wanting to enter my 'typical' dorm decor for this contest. And then there is that Arts/Science/Sports bit. My hood has them all! How do I choose? From the list of potential venues, I have the most interest in doing an art themed set, but if all the shells are going to be this little, I'd rather skate by doing sports.

How strict are you going to be about your construction rules? Would you allow an additional third floor to this shell provided I meet all the requirements in the first and second floors, and the additional third floor is just a duplicate of the middle floor? I don't think *any* of my uni buildings only have 2 floors.
Do you actually need 4 rooms, or is the goal to have a building that can have 4 occupants? I like making double rooms, but squeezing that many things into this small space is hard.
What is a refectory? Restaurant or cafeteria/dining hall?
How do you feel about building cheats for more commercial looking roofs or things that don't add any useable space?
Would you be willing to let the cat out of the bag enough to give a general idea of the future size of shells and lots? Will this lot be typical, or can we expect a wider range in sizes?

Haven't decided yet if I'll have the time to commit for the whole thing, so don't want to download the lot as I'm running a bit low on hard drive space at the mo - but I'd like to plan it out on paper ready for if I do.
So could someone share the number of spaces from the edges of the lot? I think I have the right dimensions for the foundation/walls.

Phae,

I'm using this to create my uni hood too, and this is how I reconciled it - because I have the same issues.
1. The dorm I'm doing is my entry-midrange-dorm. There will be other dorms I'm going to make that are not part of this contest because I'm intending to have 3 dorms in the end (low, middle, high).
2. a refectory (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Refectory) is the same as a cafeteria, or dining hall. That's an English/Australian term. We tend to use cafeteria just for places where you pay.
3. I'm choosing one for the contest, but I'm going to do them all. At this point in time, I don't think it matters which one we choose because while we're going for a theme each theme has many of the same subjects so if we go for the subject, then it's going to fit with the separate themes. (So yeah, I went with Science simply because it's got the most subjects, so the most opportunity for diversity and Science is my favourite :D)

I'll be interested to hear what Karen says though, because I've made assumptions here, and now that I think about it I should find out if those assumptions are valid.

Kiri

Edited to add: Wowsers! That sports dorm is awesome!

Thank you for your answers, Kiri.

(Edited) I'm sorry, no extra floors allowed. But if you wanted to use a functioning attic space, I have no problems with you doing that.
If you don't put in 4 rooms you will lose points, sorry.
Refectory is the dorm dining hall/cafeteria (as Kiri says, more of a British word)
Yes, I will allow a dummy floor that is part of the roof only.
Nope, not saying any more about future sizes of lots/shells, sorry.

Hi Croutonian, sorry it's taken a while, needed to get time to do it but here is a pic with tile dimensions on for you. It would be good to have you on board if you've got the time.

Edit
The lot is 3x2, there are 4 empty tiles on the left and the front of the lot.

I think she was wanting to know how many tiles the foundation was from the street and the sides/edges of the lot. This picture is really helpful though, having the gridlines. If you can take the picture like this for the rest of the rounds, I know I'll at least appreciate it. :)

After hashing it out with jones, I think I have a plan now for my entry. I'm committing to it! Woo!

Kiri - What do you think? Do I need this?

The CFF explorer part - basically what it is doing is expanding the usage of RAM from 1G to 2+G that will increase the processing power for your game.
The DEP part - is stopping access violations by the graphics card or by 3rd party external threats (eg. viruses).

As long as you make sure you back up everything you do, so you can restore to the same place if it all goes to halibut, I think it's worth having a look. I'm not hugely convinced that it will make a difference, because looking at your exception dumps, they don't have the <unknown> at the address that suggests that it's the graphics card that is violating the access. However, its definitely worth a try. The CFF explorer step should make some sort of difference. After all, just because it's got an address there, doesn't mean that it's not the graphics card either. Those pages are both for Sims3 but should be just as relevant for Sims 2.

 Well we can always add him in for some eye candy somewhere. I do have him as a sim and his hair sporned on a waiter who looked like Johnny Depp had gone through a wringer and had really bad plastic surgery. :wtf:

I had lots of exceptions in note pad about the crashes although when I first looked I didn't see anything and then I stumbled on it and there was a page full, so a lot of my crashes were from that but it wasn't easy to find. The steps to adding Sims 2 to DEP was easy. Jessa has it in her post here I think, or you can also check it out over on GOS. Lots of pages of talk about it on there.

I've been present but mostly lurking on MTS for years and having watched the last few lot contests, I decided to throw my hat in the ring for this one... Thank you for the contest. It looks like a lot of fun.

Easton College

Easton College is an old world, private liberal arts university. It accepts only the most elite students (aka those whose parents can pay the hefty entrance and bribery fees). As a result, it is steeped in both snobbery and tradition. Brick buildings covered in ivy, dorms which only accept students from one major, and so on. As a result, when looking at the university's ad photos, it can be hard to believe that students actually live there. They most certainly do, but the daily shifts of maids certainly keep things tidy.

The Billings House belongs to upper class Literature students. Tucked away in the countryside, this dorm is an ivy covered wonder to behold.

http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/ag63/ScottishRach/ScreenShot343_zpsf9e2ac25.jpg (http://s1299.photobucket.com/user/ScottishRach/media/ScreenShot343_zpsf9e2ac25.jpg.html)

http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/ag63/ScottishRach/ScreenShot339_zps006263ac.jpg (http://s1299.photobucket.com/user/ScottishRach/media/ScreenShot339_zps006263ac.jpg.html)

There are only six dorm rooms, each of which of course comes with a luxurious double bed, a computer desk, and a dresser (not pictured).

http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/ag63/ScottishRach/DormContest_zpsda9cedb5.jpg (http://s1299.photobucket.com/user/ScottishRach/media/DormContest_zpsda9cedb5.jpg.html)

There are literature themed posters around the ground floor, plastered there by previous students with a love for books and a disregard for the ancient wallpaper.

http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/ag63/ScottishRach/ScreenShot349_zpsbd8a0dee.jpg (http://s1299.photobucket.com/user/ScottishRach/media/ScreenShot349_zpsbd8a0dee.jpg.html)

The refectory offers a few intimate table settings and frequently offers a delicious selection of cakes and sandwiches.

http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/ag63/ScottishRach/ScreenShot352_zps80895836.jpg (http://s1299.photobucket.com/user/ScottishRach/media/ScreenShot352_zps80895836.jpg.html)

The study room contains two computers available for anyone's use. Though all students attending Easton can afford their own, sometimes it's nice to sit down in the study for a change of pace. There are also two bookshelves in this room (a must for literature students!), though they are not shown.

http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/ag63/ScottishRach/ScreenShot354_zps991c418f.jpg (http://s1299.photobucket.com/user/ScottishRach/media/ScreenShot354_zps991c418f.jpg.html)

Further activities provided in the house include two chess tables (which are both good fun and a chance to stretch the mind), an ancient radio, a television, a mahjong table, and even a nectar bar. The bookshelves and multiple stacks of books around the dorm are meant to represent the literature focused students who live here, as well as the television - they need a large screen so they can stare at Colin Firth after all and discuss the merits of his performance as Darcy!

http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/ag63/ScottishRach/ScreenShot358_zpsb21d8205.jpg (http://s1299.photobucket.com/user/ScottishRach/media/ScreenShot358_zpsb21d8205.jpg.html)

Finally, all previous occupants of the dorm would agree that by far the best feature of Billings House is the garden (when it's not raining!). There are both a hammock and a bench to curl upon with a good book (or required reading), while a bistro set is a popular setting for cream tea in the summer. For students stressed about papers, exams, and future career prospects, this certainly is the perfect place to relax and remind themselves of their love for literature.

That's wonderful Scottish Rach - What a wonderful interpretation of the dorm! :)

I would like to take the opportunity to have a whinge. I have the brain of a sieve. Working on some stained glass for my dorm. Four hours, and working on the second glass... thought, I'd just move one of the vectors into a different layer, to put all one sort together... waiting, waiting, waiting, crashing. Lost the lot because I am a doofus and forgot to backup. Four hours and I forgot to backup!!!!! I need a new brain! stat! :D :jest:

Oh noes, Kiri! You're not the only one - I've done things like that before too. What a PITA :( On the bright side, maybe it will only take 2 hours to recreate it? 'Cuz the 'thinking' part is all done - now you just need to go through the motions again. Right? I hope ;)

Tiffany - NO! ...love you though, thanks :luff:

Welcome to Rowencraft House! This upscale dormitory caters for all your needs. It can house up to four students and includes plenty of space to do all those activities that your teachers have assigned you to raise your artistic skills! No boring Rembrandt's, van Gogh's or other ancient art, Distant Brooks University specializes in all those modern ways to express yourself. Take some classes in HipHop-lyrics, modern dance or Picassoesque painting or organize a concert or dance competition at home.

As you enter through the front doors, the first thing that will catch your eye when looking to the left is 'Bare Blush', the Distant Brooks University Mascotte. She is there to support you through those difficult moments on stage and is particularly familiar with that feeling of anxiety that makes your skin red and your breath short.
The area downstairs is all about socializing, studying and skill-building.

http://modyourpanties.com/hosting/53591_140125093119-CC_R1_Social.jpg
Rowencraft House is famous for its cutting-edge parties that are so hip that no one knows they exist yet. You will often find students jamming together, playing along with the radio, or playing some kind of *contemporary* music. Even though you might think they are playing out of tune and out of synch, chances are they will be the next Take That!
http://modyourpanties.com/hosting/53592_140125093120-CC_R1_Study.jpg
If you prefer the quieter forms of creative expression, the study area might be more geared towards your needs. Enough computers, easels, and even a toy bench to let get those juices flowing. Or to keep you from finishing of your term paper.
http://modyourpanties.com/hosting/53590_140125093104-CC_R1_Refectory.jpg
Take a quick bite in the refectory and be inspired by all the colorful artwork that you can find around the house.
http://modyourpanties.com/hosting/53593_140125093122-CC_R1_TVArea.jpg
Alright, so you finished your term paper, statue, painting, or musical masterpiece? Hang out in the lounge upstairs, enjoy a good (or bad) movie and just relax and chill out. Who knows what tomorrow will bring?!
http://modyourpanties.com/hosting/53584_140125093013-CC_R1_Backyard.jpg
More of an outdoors person? Enjoy the dripping sound of the fountain whilst you grill a couple of hotdogs.

All the dorm rooms come furnished with a bed, dresser and a desk. They are highly personalized so you can stand out from the crowd and define your identity.

Note to judges:
I have used no cc whatsoever for this round. No walls, floors, default replacements or any other kind of cc.
The extra foundation was added to create the entrance, 6 pieces at the bottom and 6 pieces on top.
Extra walls were added near the entrance (3 pieces) and on the roof to create the overhang (6 pieces).

I submitted all my photos as attachments. I DID have descriptions on all of them, but after trying three times to submit, I gave up on that.

It's an artistic dorm that draws heavily from Asian influences. It happens to be in one of my existing neighborhoods that has a lot of (unintentional, but interesting Sims twist) Japanese immigrants. The dorm is modern, and based off of the style of the dorms at my university--which made designing a dining hall difficult because my university only has one dining area on campus.

Landscaping was a very important thing in designing this dorm. I wanted to create a beautiful oasis in the desert.

Something that is unique to this dorm that many dorms lack, is that each dorm room (with exception of one) has its own bathroom. This is something like my dorm has, which is a more modern direction to go in architecture of universities.

Re:print screen failing, do you have W7? If you do, and you hit printscreen and you keep getting pictures of your desktop instead of your game, go to your game's .exe properties and under the compatibility tab, check the boxes to Disable Visual Themes and also Disable Desktop Composition.

From what I can squint out, your dorm looks lovely, but the pictures really are just too small. If that doesn't work, try a program like Fraps.

Thank you tisvana18 and welcome to the contest :D

Please can you limit your images to 10 as per the contest rules.

Rules:
All images must meet MTS Screenshot guidelines.
You are allowed a maximum of 10 images per round, to include a front image and floor plan of each floor.
Please follow the Screenshot basics (http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=MTS2:Creator_Guidelines/Screenshot_Basics) information on how to take your images. At the moment they are very small and in some instances almost impossible to see your creation, and we want to be able to see it so that we can give you as many points as possible :D

I have added you to the table :D

Thank you, Colin, I will add you to the table. You have only posted 5 images, you can have up to 10. I would take advantage of the 10 images if I was you. Please, as mentioned above, take your images without the grid lines showing, they will then look much better and clearer.

Hey Everybody! I've finally finished my dorm and just in time... :anime: HoHo!

This is my dormitory,it sits for the Science thriving students and professors.I was GREATLY inspired by SeriSims Ledesia's Lets Play, and so i thought why not make a university full of scienc-y stuffs!
and thus! The Kepler Campus was born! Yay :D..(I know, lame name...),The Kepler campus only accepts geniuses with IQ over 150 as they are limited.Being genius also means you don't have to be filthy rich as most students are commoners with scholarships. All you have to do to enter is pass the IQ test and develop a snob trait..just kidding on the last one.

Presenting the Hecate Dormitory,A fully facilitated dormitory for you and your brains convenience.Come and let me give you a private tour of the dormitory.

The living or entertainment room,Most of the geniuses here entertain themselves by playing chess, expressing yourself on a painting, playing the piano or violin, reading fictional books with dragons and or aliens and sometimes on weekend nights they would all huddle up for Documentary night!,Doesn't that sound fun!
*Note to judges the violin are angled that way for screenshot purposes only..

On the rooftop is the astronomy deck, where star-curiosed students can gaze upon the night skies endlessly(well actually until dawn),Outside,There's also a swimming pool for the students who may want to excercise on their free time,Though it maintained daily, rarely does the dorm students use it,as the mostly stay indoor and find their enjoyments by being alone or with their closed friends.

I'm being pokey with mine, but I will have it up before the deadline!

I found my CC list for tiff! Dunno why or how a tiny post-it note got tangled up in my bed blankets; my comp/tower is in the living room... I'll start at the beginning though, here goes:

trambling101, the patio umbrella and the showers (if those are maxis, i'll laugh, but your pictures are pretty crunchy, so it's hard to tell)
ekrubynaffit, the sports benches on the roof, the line of dvds, the club activities table, all the mail and package clutter, the college banners, the stacked coffee cups, the dining hall serving tray tower (with bread on it), the lane lines in the pool, the free weights in the bedrooms, the desk in the bedrooms, your washer and dryer and laundry clutter, and the bi-fold door in front of it.
ScottishRach, the desk book clutter in your 4th picture, and the literature posters.
tisvana18: the bathroom wall bricks, and the lady in grey stature recolors.
gagafanu, the dining room chairs.

My Downloads folder simultaneously hates and loves these contests because everyone always have such fantastic CC that I've never seen before. Thanks!

Or not...I can't get the print screen to work with my game. Even after using the suggestions mentioned earlier. I may just follow along when I have the time, I sure do hope you can get to 10 contestants.I use Fraps to take my images and then manipulate them in Irfanview, both of which are free.

Quick introduction: My name is April, my Sims' university is Lirpa University (my first name spelled backwards). I'm currently getting my masters right now, thus I may not have time to complete the contest, especially since I'll be going to a major conference in a couple months. However, I love the idea of this contest and I've been meaning to getting around to sprucing up Lirpa U. And I want to make sure you have the minimum number of contestants you need.

Here is the first entry, the Dorm: Olympic Hall.
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/7/3/8/3/4/1/MTS_aaries16-1410572-Dorm01.jpg
This dorm is made for the athletes of Lirpa U.
Here are the floors starting with the top floor. I usually have dorms with 8 rooms and this one wasn't going to be an exception. The top floor has 6 bedrooms for students, most of which can fit double beds. The bathroom is unisex.
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/7/3/8/3/4/1/MTS_aaries16-1410577-Dorm06.jpg
On the main floor, the kitchen/cafeteria is to the left, while the study area and 2 more rooms are to the right.
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/7/3/8/3/4/1/MTS_aaries16-1410578-Dorm07.jpg
In the basement, the students may lounge and have fun in the rec room. There's a big screen tv to watch all the big games and sports events. Hi-def stereo system. And a pool table. There's also a small fitness room with an attached bathroom. After working out you wouldn't want to be all sweaty and stanky. Within the bathroom there is also a sauna, for further relaxation of those athlete's muscles.
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/7/3/8/3/4/1/MTS_aaries16-1410579-Dorm08.jpg
Here are a couple images of the main floor:
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/7/3/8/3/4/1/MTS_aaries16-1410574-Dorm03.jpg
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/7/3/8/3/4/1/MTS_aaries16-1410573-Dorm02.jpg
The outdoor area has a lap pool and basketball hoop as well as a hot tub.
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/7/3/8/3/4/1/MTS_aaries16-1410576-Dorm05.jpg
Here is the average student's room. Each student has a desk, desk chair, a bed, and a dresser. There is space in most rooms to add a one-tiled hobby or decorative item of their choosing. The students can also customize their own room with whatever bedspread they want, as well as adding rugs and decorative things on top of their dresser or walls.
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/7/3/8/3/4/1/MTS_aaries16-1410575-Dorm04.jpg
And finally, here is a closer look at the basement rec room and fitness area.
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/7/3/8/3/4/1/MTS_aaries16-1410580-Dorm09.jpg
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/7/3/8/3/4/1/MTS_aaries16-1410581-Dorm10.jpg

Notes:
Added 5 pieces of extra foundation off of the study area to get to the outside patio/pool area.
Added no pieces of outside wall. However, I did excavate the ground under the shell of the building to make the basement. I did not see any rules that said that couldn't be done.

Yes, repurposing is back. Though not every lot will be ;)

The city has started an urban renewal project, and the ever philanthropic Evans family had been planning on opening a preforming arts college. They felt the urban renewal project was the perfect oportunity for their school. Improve the area and give young people an opportunity to advance their education. The first dorm they built is the Templeton dorm, a refurbished theater.

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/5/6/0/3/1/3/MTS_justJones-1410590-1.jpg

Many of the furnishings were bought from thrift stores to give it that boho feel. Various set pieces and such found during the remodel were kept as decoration.

The old snack bar was converted to the kitchen

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/5/6/0/3/1/3/MTS_justJones-1410595-10.jpg

Two of the bedrooms are the old box seats.

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/5/6/0/3/1/3/MTS_justJones-1410601-8.jpg

And the top downs...

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/5/6/0/3/1/3/MTS_justJones-1410591-2.jpg

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/5/6/0/3/1/3/MTS_justJones-1410592-3.jpg

As I was taking the pics, I realized I have 13 extra foundation pieces. I couldn't get rid of one at that point, so I'll have to take a hit. 10 for the kitchen, one for step from outside to the kitchen and 2 under the columns in front. 9 walls for the kitchen.

I am making a University hood template that I intend to upload, eventually. Because I'm trying to make this available to as many people as possible, I'm building inside an AnyGame. Currently, it has Base, Uni, IKEA, and FT. I added FT in after realizing that there was just way too much arts, science, and sports clutter that would really drain the color out of my hood if I didn't include it. I'm still very on the fence about adding in other EPs. AL is the one I've been missing the most so far, no apartments, no ceilings, no closets, no elevators, no wall shifting cheat. I'm also considering including OFB for stages and elevators, and NL for much of the downtown activities like bowling and the photobooth. I don't really feel like it's worth it yet to exclude everyone who doesn't have these yet, but we'll see how long that lasts. AL is *really* making me miss it. Judges, please keep in mind that I'm not working with a full game for this. (I had to fake up the closets in my entry, but the idea is that an AL user would replace them with the real ones.)

My University is a combination of the two universities that I know the best, I grew up on Purdue campus and I attended the University of Cincinnati. The red brick styling is straight from land-grant college Purdue, but many of the buildings are straight knock-offs of UC. Both are very large Universities, and as such their dorms are *huge*. This is what was causing me the most problems. I couldn't figure out how to make this round fit into my University project. All my other dorms are at least 3 floors and have upwards of 16, 32, or 48 rooms. So, *4* just won't work. Happily though, jones helped me brainstorm and I hit on the idea to make this a frat house!

Welcome to College! You've successfully pledged into a very reputable, cough-cough, fraternity! Famous alums of Urele Oresha Annya include rookie basketball star Jason Graham (http://www.modthesims.info/d/470696). This exclusive fraternal order only invites 2 men per graduating class into their house, so consider yourself exceptional! Ideally situated right next to the football field, UOA is famous for its tailgating parties, pre-game and post-game celebrations, and also for just kicking back after practice. The back parking lot is often littered with red solo cups. The upstairs deck is most often used as a stage for live music while the party rages on below.

http://thumbs2.modthesims.info/img/1/0/5/2/6/7/5/MTS_Phaenoh-1410660-Exterior.jpg

Right inside the front door is the Chapter room. This is where the Brothers hold their meetings and discuss business. When not being used officially, it also doubles as a secondary quieter hangout room.
http://thumbs2.modthesims.info/img/1/0/5/2/6/7/5/MTS_Phaenoh-1410665-Chapter.jpg
Because jocks are still required to get decent enough grades, the study room is also prominent and well used. This is more often used for collaborative work as each guy has his own laptop in his room. UOA doesn't provide computers for common use, but there is a printer and various supplies available.
http://thumbs2.modthesims.info/img/1/0/5/2/6/7/5/MTS_Phaenoh-1410666-Study.jpg
The Lounge is where all the activity happens. The guys gather to watch the game or play Madden. If the weather isn't good, they bring the party inside and have an interesting drinking game with their Foosball table.
http://thumbs2.modthesims.info/img/1/0/5/2/6/7/5/MTS_Phaenoh-1410667-Lounge.jpg
While the guys have to eat, they don't really do much cooking. Usually the counters are liberally strewn with pizza boxes and Chinese take out. Occasionally they get parties catered, and there is an espresso machine in the corner. (note to judges, while I only have 1 table, both of the brown bar stools are correctly placed to be used, so technically, two eating areas.)
http://thumbs2.modthesims.info/img/1/0/5/2/6/7/5/MTS_Phaenoh-1410668-Kitchen.jpg
There are six rooms upstairs. Seniors have priority and get the two rooms with the double beds, Freshman are required to be in the shared rooms, and Juniors have their choice of bunking in the shared rooms, or taking a tiny single room, the two sophomores get whichever rooms the Juniors don't pick. Each resident is equipped with a bed, a wall mirror, smoke detector, a desk (I made it!), a chair, a rug protector, a short dresser, most have tall dressers, alarm clock, and a trash can. Each guy has brought his own computer (except one), comforter, clothes hamper, and various other items such as desk and floor lamps, radios, books, office supplies, and TVs. (I spent the majority of my time trying to cram everything into these rooms. The one thing that I've seen that is the same with EVERY dorm room I've ever seen is that they are all overstuffed with things. I wanted to make sure I replicated that. The trashcans and much of the clutter are on Walk Through Blocks (http://www.modthesims.info/d/320185), so movement isn't hindered. Be sure to scroll to the right to see images of all the rooms.)
http://thumbs2.modthesims.info/img/1/0/5/2/6/7/5/MTS_Phaenoh-1410669-RoomsRightSide.jpg
http://thumbs2.modthesims.info/img/1/0/5/2/6/7/5/MTS_Phaenoh-1410670-RoomsLeftSide.jpg
Because I was fairly sure building a basement was against the spirit of the rules, I made sure that all requirements were achieved above ground. I've been on a realism kick with my hoods lately and that means that all my houses now have laundry and water heaters. One thing that seemed to be common with these houses-turned-college-housing was that they all have creepy dark unfinished basements, and that's where you have to venture to do your laundry. Many have uneven floors. Mine is no exception. Additionally though, the boys are using the extra space for a small gym; if you are wussed out by spiders, you are in the wrong Greek House, the cheerleader's sorority is next door.
http://thumbs2.modthesims.info/img/1/0/5/2/6/7/5/MTS_Phaenoh-1410664-Basement.jpg
And, here are my floor plans. I did cut-aways on a few of the rooms upstairs so you can see everything better.
http://thumbs2.modthesims.info/img/1/0/5/2/6/7/5/MTS_Phaenoh-1410661-FloorPlans.jpg
I'm very pleased with how this came out and I'm excited to get started on Round 2.

Choose a venue from the available list and create it. Don’t forget to ensure it goes with your chosen theme and all the required elements are included. This round is a no CC round except for floors and walls and the allowed defaults. You may build an extra floor above the tower and you may add another 20 pieces of wall to your lot.

I might be making this up, but I feel like you mentioned that one of these rounds might be just an empty lot. If so, I have plans for the park, but otherwise I want to rethink my strategy. Did you say that, or am I just going crazy again?

Edit: Question about the microphone requirement for the performing venue, the only two microphones came with NL and AL, what happens if we don't have either? Is substituting a UNI guitar acceptable?

I looked up the Lot Adjuster stuff. To get to your AnyGame hoods, you need to click the Browse button at the bottom. (This feature was added later when I asked her about it, so if you still have the old original one, redownload it). From Browse you go to (likely) your C drive > Users > your name > My Document > AnyGameStarter > EA > Sims 2 > Neighborhoods. YMMV if you have a slightly custom install of things. ;)

Oh NOES!!!! Mine is making a pathetic little baby alligator sound ever so often. :wtf: It's either the Hard drive or my CD/DVD drive... We have an extra CD/DVD drive so - after I learn how - I'll be swapping that out this weekend. Hopefully that'll do it. Can't afford a new Hard drive right now! For now though, I'm back on my little netbook.

My "scores" are done - now I just have to write out the explanations/suggestions/etc... This is one tight race, ya'll :lovestruc Great jobs so far!

Oh shoot, how can you be done Catherine, I'm still trying to figure out how we get 75 points. *Hides under a bag* because she is the worst judge ever.

... You did scores and then write up. Okay that makes more sense then on how you can be done. I'm doing one at a time with comment and score as I go.

I think it means 75 points all up, its 25 per judge, 3x25 is 75 theres also the extra points that can be scored too which is the bonus of 5 for no cc and of 10 for secret item so all up can get 90 points
Easiest way to do them Jo is write it up in word then copy and paste it in a pm to Karen.
Myself, I found it easier to comment and score one by one, then you sort of knew what you were scorin on to make a comment but everyone is different and finds ways to make it easier for them :)

That threw me for a loop too. I ended up figuring I read it wrong - each judge can contribute up to 25 points per entry. Thus 75 points are possible (plus bonuses) per round. Am I right, Karen?

I took notes as I was scoring... for the writing up part. I also want to give it a day to rest in my head, before writing my comments and double checking my rulings.
I wanna be sure I'm doing this right and fair :king:

If that's the case then the wording on the first page is wrong.

Each round will have a potential of scoring 75 points from each judge

It says each judge. But yes, 25 from us each would give 75 points which would make more sense.

One at a time is how I am doing it.
