Hey,
i don't know if this is a dumb question, but is there a program that lets me see an object without opening the game?
I want to make object recolors, but i think it's pretty dumb to open the game every time I wanna see how the object looks like.
tnx

The only way i know how to do this is to extract the .obj and the largest texture and use milkshap 3d

if you recolor using normal simpe, and not the wizard,
you can 'preview' your work in the plugin view of the Geometric Data Container
I use this a lot to see if my colours are in all the right places :)
it's not perfect though, since it doesn't show shadow and reflectivity (shiny objects tend to look lighter in the game)
you'll need a plug-in, I believe Simpe asks you if you want it, and then installs it for you! handy :)

Where is this "Geometric Data Container" located? I have the latest version of SimPe and that plugin isn't available. Also, SimPe never asks if I want any specific plugins when I do an install, so where do you get this plugin???

when you have the package opened, in the left colum you see 'geometric data container'. then in the bottom screen, you'l see a tab 'plugin view'.
there you should see a button 'preview'. if you click it for the first time, it will ask you if you want to install DirectX...
tnx for the tip Leth_s! the colors really look weird, but it's ok for now ;)

Mmm, I don't have a "preview" button in my "plugin view". I can only see a flat image of my recolor. Anyone have an idea why?
Thanks!

Euterpe, what version of Simpe are you using?
The latest one,
well, I don't know what the latest one is :) but anyway
I have 0.38 and it shows up in there. I think they added it in somewhere around 0.37?

Oh my! Mine says something like 0.35.1929.2326! Does this mean my version is very outdated? That could be my problem! Does the 35 represent the version?

yep, I'm on 0.38 now, and I think it's already outdated
there's a link to the simpe site on the homepage here on mts2
try getting the new version :) it should show up in there

0.40 is current. 0.35b was stable. 0.38 has issues - I highly suggest you upgrade to 0.40.

Hi everybody,
I'm sorry to do my stupid idiot, but I just can't find that :banghead: geometric data container.
I've downloaded the 0.40 simPE version but I don't find it at all.
I don't know if I need a plug-in or not and don't know where I could find it.
Computers technical is not for me, but if someone can explain how to do with simply words (GRRR those frenchs!lol) my kind husband will understand and help me.
Thank's

The Geometric Data Container is part of an object. You have to actually open the object, rather than just using object workshop, I believe.
When you open Workshop, it only takes out things that you need to recolor it. I have no idea, but I think if you save the recolor as a clone, you can preveiw it.
BTW, I had NO IDEA you could preveiw things, so this is helpful. ^.^

there's a pic in numenor's thread here : http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=42014
in post two, under 'Colour Options: choosing the most suitable procedure'
just take your time, calm down, have a cold drink, open simpe again and take a good look
you first click on the GMDC in the list on the left, then click again in the list on the right, then click on the plugin view tab
