I'd absolutely had it with Sims fighting over the remote, and being unable to decide whether they wanted the TV on or off. So I made some televisions of my own that fix the problem.
Includes one hacked TV of each type: 27", pancake, and wall.
1) Sims will only turn these televisions on or off, or change the channels, if you tell them to.
2) Visitors no longer get ANY control over the remote whatsoever.
EDIT: Apparently, they do get some control over it. I have yet to see this behavior myself, and I can't figure out what to do about it. At least they still won't turn your television on if you don't want it on, so your parties won't degenerate into everyone huddled in front of the TV.
3) Sims will still join others who are already watching TV.
4) These televisions will not overwrite those already in your game; if you want to use them, you will have to buy them.
I have tested these, and I don't expect anything to be wrong with them, but please keep in mind that they are BETA. Let me know how they work for you.
These work with University, but do not require it.
