View Full Version : Can still see inside dorm rooms

I have been running Sims 2 and the University expansion for some time, with no problems. Now, after installing Nightlife, I've found that I can see the inside of all of the dorm rooms occupied by NPCs (these normally disappear when the room is claimed). This wouldn't be a problem, but showing all those extra Sims and the room contents has slowed the game considerably; I'd like to get the performance back. I've got "Object Hiding" on, and I've disabled all the custom content; no difference. I've tried re-installing everything from scratch, and rolling back to an earlier save (I periodically archive saves by copying the entire directory "Documents and Settings\My Name\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2" onto a different partition); this doesn't help, either. I've run out of things to try; has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions?

Try deleting the cigen and groups.cache files from your sims2 folder. Also, check the dorm doors- are they installed correctly, and do you have any hacks that may interfere? Try moving your downloads folder- do the occupied rooms disappear then? If not, try restoring the objects.package file.

I'm not sure if disabling custom content actually disables hacks, but I know there is a hack specifically made to do exactly what you're describing: see inside dorm rooms even if your player sim isn't inside there... I'm not 100% sure, but I -think- the hack may be by Pescado. Whenever I have game problems, I move my whole Downloads folder to desktop rather than disabling; that way, you can be sure nothing in there can interfere with your test.
Dunno if that helps, but, err... good luck! :)

News flash!
If you download the 2nd Nightlife patch here (http://thesims2.ea.com/update/getpatch.php?appVersion=1.2&languageCode=), supposedly this is fixed:
Fixed an issue so that dorm rooms will be hidden again when Nightlife is installed.
Now, personally, I'm not going to patch my game as Open for Business is coming out in a few weeks. I don't want to retest all my hacks. However, if this bugs you enough, you might want to download this patch. Just be aware that if you have any hacks, they might stop working after you patch your game. Read up on my sticky here:
