I am a newbie creator, so I apologize if this question has already been asked!
I'm creating a set of items for an old-fashioned shop and would like to recolour the open/closed sign that comes with OFB. (I'm using Numenor's amazing tutorial for recolouring objects in SimPE.) When I try to use Object Workshop to recolour the sign, no textures come up for it. I assume the sign must have textures somewhere, but since I'm pretty inexperienced I don't know the first thing about where to look for them or how to go about solving this. Any suggestions? Again, sorry if this has already been asked...I did a search but got no results!

You are correct when attempting to recolour then indeed no colours come up - the original object is not design mode enabled. I will attempt to clone original but I have a bad feeling that this item is like the dorm doors, the apartment doors, the hotel doors - hardcoded. However, if you make a mesh from the original that is recolourable then I may be able to give you a workaround.
EDIT: looks like this is hard coded -
potential answer (1) is to make an INVISIBLE clone of the open closed sign, then make ANOTHER sign - can be as big or small as you like, either wall mounted or standing object and use that as a controller - like milk bottle. I am not sure what effect that might have on graphics appearance (shadows).
Potential answer (2) is make new copies of sign and create additional controller object to swap the graphics. This is preferred option, but less pretty.
I can probably adapt milk bottle controller to do the trick but would also need to make "new" controller object as will not use milkbottle mesh for something else.
Might be best to try something else as first project?

Wow, that was a very detailed explanation! Thanks for all the info! Yeah, I think this would be way too difficult for me right now. But I will keep this in mind for a future project! Thanks, Leesester!

No problem - I like your chair very much (I cannot texture) so if you were interested in a joint project I would be open to that. Project: you do the textures, I do the BHAVs, we share the mesh.

Wow, I'm really flattered! I don't think I can texture that well...thanks for the vote of confidence! I would definitely like to do a joint project with you, I love your stuff. let me know if you think of something cool we can do together.
