(Thanks to ani_ for the original thread. I'm closing it and starting a new one in Common Threads so that the first post can have a bit of guidelines as well as helpful links).

This thread is for:

Silly, quick little questions about the game that don't need their own whole threads.

Things you're wondering about gameplay that you think you should know despite having played the game quite a while.

Little things you're curious about, gameplay-wise.

That's what this thread is for. Ask all your silly stupid questions here. :)

This thread is not for:

Technical help. If you are having trouble with your game, please read the FAQs in MTS2's Game Help section (http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help) and post in the Game Help forums if you are having issues. More likely than not, any answers to technical questions you might ask here would be -wrong- and will not help you fix your issue in the best way possible.

Custom content issues. If you need help with installing custom content, getting custom content to show up, or finding problem custom content, see here: Game Help: Custom Content (http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Custom_Content).

Where can I find/does this content exist? If you are looking for certain custom content, even if you're not sure anyone's made it, please ask in our Where Can I Find? (http://forums.sims2community.com/forumdisplay.php?f=37) forum instead of here.

Questions about specific hacks/custom content. Individual creators support their own work. If you have a question about InTEENimater or InSIMenator, ask on the InTEEN or InSIM forums. If you have a question about how a particular piece of content works, ask its creator in the thread.

Creation questions. Please use MTS2's Create Section (http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?title=Sims_2_Modding) where there are extensive tutorials as well as forums where you can ask questions on all aspects of creating custom content.

Helpful Tips:

Your question may already be answered. Here's some helpful tips/links for you, so you may not need to ask.

Search! You can Search the Sims 2 Discussion forum (http://forums.sims2community.com/search.php?forumid=9) to see if someone has already answered your question.

Use Game Help. MTS2 has an extensive Game Help section (http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help) that not only covers problems, but also Cheats (http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Cheats), Gameplay Guides (http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Gameplay_Guides), and Expansion Packs. i want to ask about pets EP.
i have all EPs except pets, and alot of times, i want to download lots or objects, but oops! it requires pets !

now, i can get it, but i think there are problems in it? what kind of problems are there?

and another thing,
once, i was downloading an objects, and there was 2 links to download it, one for normal eps and one for pets ep owners.... !!!
if i get pets, should i redownload some things?

SofieAmalieN

There's nothing wroing with the Pets EP as far as I know. If you've succesfully installed BV and FT after, then Pets shouldn't be any problem as you already have the Pets patch then.

Pets is a great EP, it comes with lots of good stuff and I'm sure you'll love it, if you buy it.

I don't know if you should re-download, but I would think that you'd have to.

The downloads for Pets EP owners have Pets EP associated interractions, like sleep on bed, destroy furniture, bath dog, etc. You need to download them only if you want those interractions to be available too, otherwise they work fine.

Are townie gun-generated NPCs supposed to be listed under the "Default" household in SimPE (along with Crumplebottom, Grim, Hula Zombie, etc.)?

I would always use the wishing well, but that is because I don't like NPCs and avoid them whenever possible.

Okay, say a pregnant sim dies of hunger.

And you have the sim ressurrected.

If you make her come back as a zombie, will she still be pregnant? I've always wondered this for some reason, but have never tried it.

Lazzybum - So far as I remember I don't think so. I think NPC burglars are the only burglars that can break in a house. I'm not sure, though.

Another question: What colors of ghosts do we get again?

From the Sims2 WIki:
* Burned: Red
* Death by Flies: Purple
* Death by Satellite: Orange
* Disease: Green
* Drowned: Blue
* Electrocution: Yellow
* Hunger: Normal but transparent
* Old Age: White
* Scared to Death: Pink

And bonus deaths from the Legacy Challenge FAQ (http://www.legacychallenge.com/FAQ.htm):

Bright Green (Eaten by Cowplant)
Pink (Scissors)**

No. At least she shouldn't be. She lost the baby when she died, and zombies can't have babies.

Can men zombies still impregnate living women?

JadeEliott
25th Apr 2008, 05:28 AM
Don't think so. From Prima Guide:

Zombie sims can woohoo but cannot try for baby.

So I'll bet the try for baby does not come up whether you click on the zombie or the Sim.

Maybe someone will try it in game and let ya know. Thyme is zombie-free or I would. :-)

Why do custom black hairs, if there are two shades of the same mesh, turn to the other shade during an age transition? Aaaaand how the hell do my toddlers dislike their older siblings that they've never even interacted with yet? Is it because they seem to have like, one nice point apiece?

Ghost sdoj

My male zombie didn't have any try for baby option. (Which was another thing making his (Family) wife unhappy with him. She is also rather unhappy that he is quite happy that I also made him a vampire, and would like her to be one too. But one of my other vampires has gotten a couple of Maxis women pregnant, so it's not the vampire aspect preventing a baby.)

Family relationships are randomly generated at birth. So if you give birth to a sim, then s/he'll gain a random relationship with every household member. For older siblings the range is -10/-10 to 25/15 if I recall correctly.

I wonder...... I have heard so much about grimpregnation. I know you can make a sim pregnant with Grimmie with Simpe, Insim or boolprop but I've actually heard about someone who have had it happening naturally. I've heard stories about Grimmie coming to a sim female's house when a family member (maybe esp. husband) has died. and I've read that the Grimmie has woohooed them or impregnated them in some way.
Is it true???
Where do I have these stories from if it's 100% false?
I know it can happen with simpe, insim or boolprop but is there a 1% chance that it can happen in the game naturally? :)

Claire

uhhh... It probably can becasue EAxis, in OFB... that lady with the flower shop apprently had woo-hoo with the grim reaper in her memories. I don't think EAxis would put that memory in the game if it couldn't be possible without cheating or using a hack.

1306 - Yes, you can get multiple wishing wells, and the using it too often thing only applies per well - so you can have two wells and switch from using one to another.

princesshaichu - Likely that hair is done with family values (not like, morals, but, um, what makes it so you can put a sim in CAS in a red hair, then switch to black and have the same style in a black hair). If there's more than one black hair assigned to the same family, it might default to the wrong one. This can be fixed by having multiple family values for a single hair if you have more than one colour in a particular bin. Nouk does this, but folks like Peggy do not.

The Oceanborn - There is no chance that the grim reaper will woohoo with your sims without some serious cheating or hacks.

The Oceanborn - There is no chance that the grim reaper will woohoo with your sims without some serious cheating or hacks.

That's weird because I've heard so many stories about sims who were impregnated or woohooed by Grimmie after someone were killed or after a sim was saved from death.
Are there any hacks that makes Grimmie do that?:) Well this is not a CC question but I just wonder if you know about hacks which can cause that.
It could as well have been a normal sim dressed in Grimmies clothes but why would he/she come to a sim's house after someone were died or saved from death?
And some people could have just joked or lied as well........

HystericalParoxysm

The_Oceanborn - You can make a normal sim dressed in grimmie clothes but they won't come to a sim's house after death any more than a normal sim would, and they won't behave as grimmie. Anyone who said that was joking or lying.

I wonder if this is a myth among simmers because many people seem to believe that. Have you noticed? Many people have said this cannot happen but still I've read some simmers say it has happened. To me it seems very unlikely but maybe there could be a 0, 1000 % chance of it happen. Are you 100% sure if this myth is false? Any proofs?
Sorry for being fussy but I've wondered about this for a long time.

HystericalParoxysm
25th Apr 2008, 10:55 PM
It is 100% false. That just won't happen. There's plenty of simmers that say their sims got twins from eating cookies, or had a girl because their sims woohooed on a Thursday, but that's also not true. Grimmie's scripted to do certain things, and woohoo ain't one of them at all.

Ok. I understand. Maybe it looked like Grimmie impregnated their sim for the ones who claimed it?
I agree there. One of the most widespread myths is that sims with high logic skills are more likely to get abducted by aliens. That's nonsense.

But I wonder........ Why do romance sims have this strut walk? I didn't actually notice before a month ago when Don Lothario walked. It just seems so weird.....

HystericalParoxysm
25th Apr 2008, 11:12 PM
Maybe, but they would have had to make that happen themselves. It wouldn't have just happened randomly as woohoo is not autonomous, and they would have had to make a sim that looks like the grim reaper intentionally, and invited it over after a death, and told their sims to try for baby with it.

Romance sims have a strut walk when they're going to do a romantic interaction. Direct a romance sim to, say, flirt with another one, and they'll do that silly little strut. It's just the way they work. I think there's a hack to correct that if it bugs you.

I tried asking this in the University section a while ago and was unable to get an answer.

Do you absolutely have to attach a University subhood for your sims to go to college? Could you, in theory, rezone a residential or community lot from your base hood into a dorm and send young adults there?

I just really hate having a whole new neighborhood for a college. D:

If you go to this (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php?topic=9495.525) post, third post from top, you'll find a link to two hacks that will allow you to go to college from main hood. You'll then have to manually shift the college clock with insim becuase it won't run on it's own. you'll miss a lot of college interactions, no mascots or professors and such, but it still works and it's a nice option to have. Never understood maxsi's fixation on having subhoods, life is much simpler without them.

I'm a bit confused with sneaking out. I had one teen living on her own who had the option on the phone and she snak out with her brother, but teens living at home are not getting it. Is there a certain time you have to do it, or a certain day of week? both knew other teens, one was going out with a teen and had the want to sneak out, but never got the chance to do it.

About WhoHoo not being autonomous... This happened a while ago, but...

I had put to sims relaxing together on a bed, and the next second, they were WhoHooing! Of course, I was going to make them Try for Baby anyway, but...

as woohoo is not autonomous.

Is there a hack that makes woohoo autonomous? I have InSim, so I know it's not that. I've heard a bit about ACR, but don't know much about it. If it does make woohoo auto, I might have to get it for drama purposes.

I know making out can be autonomous. *snort* My legacy founder was on a community lot that I was visiting with another character and was feeling up Malcolm Landgraab in the garden. I was shocked, as she's a family sim with three bolts for her husband and 100/100 relationship score. That's what got me thinking about auto woohoo. It would add drama to my legacy were she to get preggers without my knowledge. LOL

I dont know if i have posted some random questions lately so here are mine.

1. I have been having problems ever since i started playing sims on how to make a porch (with pillars) and i seen everyone else's and they are soo good but mine everytime i do that, i can't put the roof on because it says that it can't handle the weight. Is there anything i can do, i have read the manual but i am still confused.

2. Cameraman mode always gives me trouble,i would TAB then i would find the picture i wanted, take the picture and then when i would exit out, it would be a pain in the butt to get back to the angle i had before i used it. Any suggestions?

3. Final question, on paintings, i do alot of self portaits and customs and they are good but then when they are completed they are kind of fuzzy, i have my graphics set correctly but i dont understand why they are always coming out fuzzy.

I bet these have already been answered but please help a girl out...thanks!

If you have a scroll wheel on your mouse, if you hold it down and kinda move your mouse about, you can angle the ingame camera back to normal.

anyone else know about the other questions i asked? mainly the pillars?

crocobaura
27th Apr 2008, 07:41 PM
For the porch you need to first build a floor roof before you can make a normal slanted roof. Also, it's easier to build a room around it first, then the roof, and you can delete the walls afterwards and replace them with pillars and fences.

And for the camera mode. I new tip I found when trying to get a certain picture. Assign the angle a shortcut by pressing CTRL+ any number 4-9 . Then move the camera around a bit, and press the number you assigned it and it should go back to exactly where it was. It will even keep the shortcuts when you leave the lot and come back.

This helps in filming as well!!

Paintings come out slightly fuzzy because they are painted. (At least I assume that is the cause.) Smooth edges also make paintings worse, even before the point where the whole game gets blurry.

For a custom painting I use my graphics program (Photobie) to over-sharpen it before saving to the paintings folder. For in-game paintings I take a picture of them on the wall, then use my graphics program to cut them out and make an over-sharpened custom painting of them. (One reason I am very happy with that new feature.)

Okay, I want to know what to do after you back up your files. I already did that, I do it quite often, and I save the Sims 2 folder to the desktop like Wiki says to. I'm about to uninstall FreeTime and if doing that deletes all my stuff in game, how do I use the folder on the desktop that I backed everything up into... to put the stuff back in my game when I'm done uninstalling...? Does that make any sense...? lol

... if you're uninstalling an EP you're going to lose all your neighborhoods (and all the lots and sims in them) and there's no way around that besides maybe exporting the sims' appearances using SimPE. New EPs change the way the game works fundamentally and you can't use files from an EP without that EP. Yes, you can copy the folder back where it belongs but you then need to delete the Neighborhoods folder... I would also delete LotCatalog as well (as you may have incompatible lots and clicking on them in the lot bin will cause your game to crash without Freetime), and if you had any downloaded objects that need FreeTime, you need to delete those from your downloads too or your game may not load.

This was asked a few days ago, but I missed it. You can absolutely have a working college in your main hood without a single subhood. I am doing it so I know.

Ani is right, you need two hacks by Squinge, College Interactions on Any Lot and Teen to Young Adult. HERE (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php?topic=9495.msg313517#msg313517).

I talk about it at my site here:

http://www.isleofthyme.net/backtalk/preview-the-academy-of-apprenticeship-arts.html

http://www.isleofthyme.net/backtalk/update-the-academy-the-pros-and-cons.html

http://www.isleofthyme.net/lore-and-legend/fa-1n-3a-marwen-tour-the-daughtry-academy-of-apprenticeship-1.html

Anyway, it is waaayyyy better than a Maxian college in my opinion.

Does the cheat maxNumberOfVisitingSims effect the number of townies/downtownies that show up on community lots or does it just effect the number of people you can invite to parties and outings?

I thought I'd read somewhere once that it did, but I have the number set to 15 in userstartup.cheat (I find that the game is always way too conservative about how many Sims your system can handle) and, while I can invite that many Sims to parties and outings, it seems like no more than 8-10 townies/downtownies at a time ever show up on community lots.

Thanks HP. I understand that. I wanted to move all of the sims in my neighborhood, including NPCs. Chessa - Well, dumping the character files in I don't think would work either. You could -try- it with a copy of the neighborhood (make a backup of everything and try it with a copy, so you can restore you originals if it doesn't work) but I really don't think it would actually work. I doubt the sims would actually show up at all.

xJOFLx - Neighborhood Browser, Sim Surgery, Export. Then you can access them in CAS or Body Shop. For a more detailed explanation search MTS2 for "export in-game sim" for a tutorial.

When switched on, the game will only render objects on the level you are current playing. So you're upstairs watching Dad teach little Sue to walk and can see all the furniture on the second floor, but through the downstairs window, you see Mom sitting on an invisible couch watching an invisible TV.

Mihura
2nd May 2008, 08:22 PM
You can try to not make them together because family meals make relations better. ;) An adult cook for all but eat alone and when he / she leave the child come to eat or take from fridge.
You can too try to make them argue (teen-adult) or since toddler age a child can annoy his younger sibling if their relations are low instead of "play" there is "tease".
I'm not a specialist of these relations usually but you can try. :)

Emmy-chan
2nd May 2008, 08:22 PM
you could probably no teach your toddler sim... once they become a child you can have your sims do things to annoy your child. Eventually your child sim will hate there parents.
Or you could cheat. There are a lot of cheats to force a sim to runaway or hate there parents.

Noogies are surprsingly effective. Toddlers are hard to get relationships down low if they're not already (read: nigh on impossible). irritate interactions and noogies and stuff will lower relationships with children though.

I think it's random, just try phoning the maid service again and it will propbably be a different NPC.

Okay, how long does it usually take for the social worker to arrive...?

I ask because I've been trying to get these two toddlers taken away; their mother had them from an affair and she's now dead, and her (now ex) boyfriend who she lived with isn't the type of guy to take care of kids that aren't his. However they've been neglected and in the red for two full Sim days now, and no social worker has shown up. They just sit there and cry all day and night.

I've never dealt with the social worker before so I have no idea if this is normal or not, but it sure seems like she'd have come by now!

I'll try the radio though and see what happens. If she STILL won't come then I'll just have to figure out a way to get everyone in the house to leave at the same time so that they're left alone. Well, the thing is, he's a vampire. He has two teen daughters who go to school every day, but he can't leave the house at the same time they do, and if I got him a night job then they'd be home while he was gone.

I ended up downloading something that lets you put toddlers and children up for adoption, and that worked, so they're FINALLY gone. It's too bad their real father couldn't have just come over and taken them...

Actually a vampire can leave the house during the day if you are careful. Put a coffin in the garage near the car, and make sure the vampire is listed as the owner of the car.

You can even take him to a community lot if he knows how to mediate and you are quick to queue it up as soon as he arrives on the lot. He will scorch a bit before he gets the idea, but if he was in good shape before that he will be ok. You can always feed him, let him shower, etc. when he gets home and it's dark.

I believe you'd have to rework/add to the mesh to allow for the extra morphs. Try checking the meshing tutorials on the wiki.

And, so I don't double post, I have a possibly stupid question of my own.... If you have an elder couple in a house by themselves, who have grown children in their own houses, what happens to the elder's house when they die? Does one of thier children inherit it? And do the objects in the house remain, or would they inherit an empty house? Or do the heirs just get a cash split of what it would have been worth had the elders moved out and gotten the cash value for it with the lot becoming simply vacant and available for purchase by someone else?

Are older adult female sims just less fertile, like real middle-aged women? My Scarlet had her third miscarriage this morning, with 12 or 13 days left to elderhood, and after five pregnancies (ten kids if you count her two CAS-made children). It's very upsetting to see her that way :c but I do want her to have a blonde child. (And no, there's no firstborn syndrome happening.)

I think that it actually gets harder to get her pregnant as she gets older, i don't know about the miscarriage but if you don't like it you could get the no miscarriage flavour pack for inteen.

That would be the same as any other occasion where the last living person in a house dies. After the pop-up about that (which varies) you have an empty lot. Grim may hang around and watch tv or use the toilet for a while, but the house remains as it was with garbage, tombstones, etc. still there.

The children's (and friends) inheritance comes from insurance money. The house has nothing to do with any of it. It's there to be moved into by anyone who can afford it.

Noogies and dining isolation from child onwards: gotcha.

Thanks all.
I know this is a bit late, but if your Sim child sees one of their parents cheating on the other one then the kid will get really mad and their relationship level should go to the minuses. The more times they see them cheat the lower the relationship level gets.

I discovered this by accident when one of my Sim-kids saw her dad kissing another woman (the parents had never lived together but were still in love).

Thank you Ghost. I asked because I've never had a situation in my game so far where all playables on a lot died. Up until now, on the (relatively few) occassions where I've actually played a household/family through the deaths of the original couple, I've always had one of their kids either remain at home to begin with, or move back in after college, usually with their soon-to-be bride/groom. So I'd just wondered if anyone would inherit the house to keep it in the family if I didn't have an heir moved in already.

Never understood maxsi's fixation on having subhoods, life is much simpler without them.

it's been a bit but in the off chance others are reading this thread for the first time,or re-reading for that matter just a note on these hacks, they appear to work fine up to BV but with FT they disable the option for adults to find jobs. as an in-hood college it works beautifully, moved a teen to a dorm lot,she graduated with honors and all that jazz...perfect. however in a completely different hood/sim i was informed repeatedly that his grades needed to improve before he could get a job...and this is an adult half-way through the life stage. sooo you may want to use it only when you have sims who need to go to uni, then remove it for regular play.....or just use a sub-hood,lol

vickster - Stuff packs, yes - you can install lots that require them with Clean Installer even if you don't have those EPs. They are not required for the house - the stuff used from the SP (if any) just won't show up. EPs, no - they are absolutely required and your game can crash if you try to install houses that require EPs you don't have.

Just remembered another dumb/random question.

I've just embarked on a Mostly Prosperity Challenge (Prosperity Challenge + essential but not mood-changing hacks) and I want to keep a pictoral record of it. Nothing too involved, I'm using the storybook feature in-game because posting to my LJ or elsewhere requires Photshop-type skills and such.

My question is; What do I take photos of? Beyond the initial introductory photos, what do I keep a record of? Age transitions seems reasonable as well as job losses but what else?

Good "stupid" question.

Take pics of what interests you, of what makes the characters more individual, of what makes a funny caption.

In my early days of blogging, I passed over a few moments that I thought, interesting but won't add up to much (like the Mayor laughing at the Editor of the Thyme Times paper) that ended up being major storylines. So now I always capture the "little moments" cause those end up being big stories sometimes!

I'm not even one cycle in and taking shots really seems to slow game-play down which I haven't decided whether it's a good or bad thing. And does everyone have a sort of soundtrack running in the back of their heads as they play? Like, Ken isn't really just talking to Richie, he's actually teaching Richie how to count "One stolen simoleon, two stolen simoleons etc."

You can get a screen capture program like Fraps or Screenshot Maker, and collect the pictures with that. It does capture stuff that the in-game camera doesn't, but if you are careful to use the tab key to get rid of the UI you can usually edit out the queue icons. Or you can go into buy mode or build mode, then use the design tool to get rid of gridlines and just edit the pause line out.

i gave this a try, since i wondered this myself after you mentioned it...my game crashed on me.....apparently (at least in my game, can't say how it'll behave for others,of course) it seems like my game refuses to even recognize the 'uni' sim is exisitant.

with the hack installed, jack can phone her at school, chat online, and email her and when she is invited over she comes as a YA and interacts properly, perfectly even.

without the hacks he can't interact with the dorm sim at all..it's as if tessy is MIA. it goes without saying the dorm lot crashes during loading w/o the hacks in place.

What are you people talking about? My sims at home can phone and invite college sims over and my college sims at dorms can invite the ones at home over too.

Here's my question:
Is Priya or Sanjay programmed to have diffuclties of getting a baby? (The Ramaswami family that came with Seasons), because when I have Sanjay and Priya as a couple I swear it's hard to get her pregnant, once in an old NH Priya didn't pregnant until she was like 5 days from becoming an elder despite having sex. In another NH where the two are still together, it seems like Priya isn't opregnant yet no matter how many times I make them do it.

Although when she whoohoo with Samantha Ottomas, she seems to get pregnant quicker then she would with Sanjay. Same with Trisha Traveller, although getting Priya pregnant with her seems a little hard too (Inteen of course). But Sanjay seems to take the longest in getting her pregnant. So is either of the two making it harder for Priya to get pregnant? (I am going to try in another neighbourhood and see what happens and if my theory is correct)

Must be luck of the draw then.

I did a test, she got pregnant to Samatha and Trisha (Yes Ottomas and Traveller) in about two hours, I kept using maxmotives to speed through it.
It took Sanjay the rest of the night and then half of the morning with maxmotives on to get her pregnant (Don't worry, I kept the other two far away from Priya when she was doing the other one), I used Inteen to make Priya have her baby right there and then.

No idea how big the Album can get. But I did discover that after taking 30 or more pictures it is important to actually "album" them instead of leaving them loose. A bad makeover can usually be fixed by going into the Face Paint on the mirror (or another makeover), putting one of them on, then taking it back off.

Yes, you can put tombstones into a community lot, but it is a good idea to make sure they got there. You can put them into your inventory, then go to the lot and click the ground to place the grave there. That is usually a better method than the one where you click the grave and move it straight to the community lot. The second method just piles them out by the phone box and sometimes loses them, so it's better for sims you don't care about as much.

willows_tara- we're talking about 'college in any hood' hacks and how they work (or don't) in FT. as i said in a previous post somewhere in this thread, these hacks disable the 'find a job' action for all sims returning a "you're grades need to improve" message when you try to get any sim (teen to elder) a job. it was a risk i knowingly took since i was well aware they hadn't been updated since BV....i was sharing the info to help others who decided to try them with FT installed.

Hello, I have a house of 7 people and I started to notice that when my sim makes a meal there is enough for 5 or 6. Is there a cheat compatible with and up to seasons and freetime (waiting for the patch therefore its sitting on my desk uninstalled) where my sim can make several food servings? I did have an old hack where my sim made the number of servings match the number of people on the lot but its not compatible with seasons.

Also, I have insimenator does that affect my sims not being able to play catch or have water balloon or snowball fights? I have the following expansion packs: Uni, Pets, nightlife, seasons and hopefully freetime in the next decade!

HOFB- Insim allows varietly of stuff, like you can summon people (Even kids that get taken away from Social Workers, hint hint), raise relationships and loads of other stuff, there's no updated verison for FT thought. Here go find it at www.insimenator.net

Inteen is well it allows teens to get pregnant and Whoohoo, they can also get married even to adults. YA adults can get married and have babies too, there's a FT verison for it but I forgot the link to it, just type in Inteeninator download in google and you should find it.

Princess- I know that's crazy, you can'[t even feed 8 and barely seven. When I a m playing sims without maxmotives, I make the cook of house cook for her family and let's say she has eight, so she and an other are left out so she has to make another batch just so they can eat (Unless they are full, then the one that's more hungry cooks on thier own). I usually go by the hungriest and who the hungriest is who gets the plate of food first.

A parent (Or grandparent or guardian) knows to make more then five plates for her or his family if there's more then 6 members in real life..

Bernz1977 - Please ask in the Where Can I Find forum. There probably is a hack for it but no cheat.

PuX- 80's - FRAPS is a screenshot and video capture program. It works similar to the game's C and V keys (camera and video) only has a lot more settings you can choose, takes larger pictures, and allows you to save them to a directory of your choice.

I think as well babies age depends on the moment of birth, my kid was born at three am (lets say sunday), on monday 18:00 he got the note that only one day left., so if I would have waited untill tuesday for her to grow up, then that's almost three days of bayism.

musiquefille_SC
14th May 2008, 09:03 PM
yeah, i wasn't very clear. all sims get the option to "grow up" at 6pm the night before they will automatically grow up. with babies, it depends on when they are born, but if you have a baby just before 6pm, then at 6pm the next day they will get the option to grow up. if they are born after 6pm, they will not get the option until the day after the next. it can take 3 days if you just wait for sims to grow the baby up autonomously, but if you use the cake or a hack (or debug mode) to tell the sim to grow the baby up you don't have to wait an entire day.

So maybe it isn't insim related - maybe it just has to do with waiting for it to happen autonomously or forcing it to happen once the option is available.

Brenz- If I read correct, that's supposed to happen, alot of things can make a sim hot and cold. Like for instant, did you know making out actually gets the sim hot? Lol I guess I see what they mean by that. Or if they are throwing water balloons around, especially in winter it's more likely to go to blue faster.

Simlogical has an air conditioner. If they can't get green by using it to warm up or cool off, you have a glitch. Otherwise, it's just that the game is stupid.

Standing outside when it is cold will get you cold. Making out will get you hot. But making out in the cold doesn't help any until you get to the point where it goes from blue to red.

(You might also want to check your roofs.)

Stupid question: Because of my play style (and because I often don't stick with a single neighborhood for long stretches of time), I'm curious about what happens to the townie (and downtownie) population when townies die or become playable Sims. Does the townie/downtownie population just decrease or do they get replaced? If they get replaced, does the game spawn the same townies again or does it randomly create them? This would be in a game without any hacks or mods to affect townie regeneration.

Not easily. You have to "give up seat", then "be seated" again and hope you get put where you wanted to be.

boolprop allow45angledegreeofrotation true, and set to false to turn it off. You rotate the furniture with the , and . keys once you've got it turned on.

thanks! sorry for the wait..i just got up from a about 9 hour nap....

i went to bed around 3pm...on an uncomfortable chair at my aunts house...

so to be in my own bed was a miracle!

ps. does that mean i have to use boolprop cheat first?

No, it's a separate boolprop cheat. :>

HP, Does FRAPs help make the pictures sharper(?)?

HystericalParoxysm
16th May 2008, 02:57 AM
PuX- 80's - They will look exactly as your screen does in-game. Same size, same sharpness. That's because it's a screen capture program. The game's camera reduces pictures to its preset sizes, and compresses them. Pictures taken in FRAPS (or any other screenshotting program, or using the Print Screen key) always look better than pics taken with the game's camera as they are not sized down and compressed to start with.

Yes, they can. Set the graphics settings to their maximum. If it is unplayably slow like that you can re-set the graphics to the lower settings after you get the picture.

The game camera automatically compresses the image and saves it as a .bmp. A screen capture gives you an image which you then need to take into an editing program and re-size. But you can then save it in a better format than .bmp. Bmp is great for saving space, but not so great at preserving detail.

Another stupid question from me, I just found out that 'boolprop dormSpecificToolsDisabled false' doesn't work anymore from my userstartup.cheat. I remember it worked fine before. Which EP broke that? Or is my game broken?

HystericalParoxysm

PuX- 80's - A lot of what they do is the aesthetic, framing, etc... plus having nice graphics cards. If you've got a crappy graphics card and no eye for aesthetics, then your pics won't look like theirs, but you can make your pics look as good as your game does, anyway, using FRAPS.

sidneydoj - Err, actually, .BMP is a lossless format. There's no compression on a .bmp, though you can lose detail on one by resizing with a poor resize algorithm. .JPG is a compressible (or lossy) format. .BMPs won't save space, but can preserve detail. .JPGs are the other way around - smaller, but can lose detail... but can be fine if you use a relatively low level of compression on them.

StupidityKills
16th May 2008, 01:44 PM
Yeesh, never use BMP unless you've got a tonne of space without being worth the good quality images. JPG's (/jpeg's) are best cos with most image editing programs (photoshop, paintshop pro, illustrator, fireworks...) you can specify how much you're willing to give up quality (1-99%) to make the file size smaller, this means you can tweak it down just enough to get the file smaller when you need to.
Also: Gadwin Print Screen is a pretty good, free, print screen grabber.

How much money does a sim need to have for a fortune sim to get the "marry rich sim" want fulfilled when marrying them?

Ghost sdoj

If you ask how much money they have and they say $$$, they are rich enough. (usually)

I had a guy who was getting Elder females as well from a full price. 3/4 of the price was enough to get someone more reasonable. Changing his turn off to grey hair also helped. (I originally had him turned off by facial hair, because I didn't want him developing a crush on his roommate when spring rolled around.)

Question:
While playing in game,When i delete an object that has recolors, do the recolors get deleted too, or should i delete the recolors then delete the object?
What about the mesh?

simsample
17th May 2008, 11:36 AM
It depends on the object. If it has a seperate mesh file and recolours you need to delete the recolours first and then the mesh, if you do it in game. But if the mesh and recolours are all bundled in one file you just delete the main object. Dincer is one of the creators who makes objects like this (DH Sims). You can tell because if you use the design tool on the object, a trashcan appears when you select a recolour. For DH's items it doesn't.

Something is causing your game to think you need more teens. Probably the same thing that is causing your gypsy to be even crazier than usual.

Under the circumstances I suspect you might be justified in ignoring the gypsy and seeing what you can find with the Find-A-Mate Crystal ball. (I don't quite remember where it was, but I suspect it was TwoJeffs who is now at simbology. Or possibly something from MTS2.)

Okay, I have one.

Is red hair dominant over blonde?

Because, I remember making a sim couple in CAS. One had red hair, one had blonde. They had 3 kiddos, and all had blonde hair.

However, in my legacy, I have a blonde and a red haired couple. So far they have had two kids with red hair. Is it possible that maybe I've been lucky and the blonde-haired guy's recessive red-hair genes are showing through?

Here's a question:
How do you mod stuff like clothes and hair? I don't mean meshes, I mean something simple. Like let's say I wanted to use the adult female tiger dress (It's red with a tiger on it) and wanted a teen to wear it, or use the maxis curly hair and make it possible for toddlers to wear it.

How would I go by making the other gender/age able to wear that type of clothing or hair? Because there's a Uni clothe I want to make avabile for teens but I don't know how.

Browse through here (http://www.modthesims2.com/wiki.php?title=MTS2:Create), you should find a starting point i'm sure.

Willow's Tara - That is a matter of meshing. Adults, young adults, and elders can share clothing without re-meshing it, as their bodies are the same size (though elders are a different shape, but if you don't mind non-saggy elders, it's fine). Converting an adult outfit to teen, or converting a hair to toddler is going to be a matter of converting the mesh.

What is the point of Sims being able to write a diary? I always come across things that I thought were just fun, little extra activities that EAxis added in and then find out that there is a point to them (e.g. meditation freezing a Sims motives, 'primp' raising their hygiene slightly etc) and have always wondered if writing a diary is one of those things? Is there ever an outcome to it, or is it just a random activity thrown in there?

Gelyn, if your Sim have had an high aspiration life (or someone else) you can try to buy an "elixir of life " with aspiration points. If she's in gold or platinum mood it will make her younger (but she will become an elder if she's not in gold :giggler: ). This is for the correct way.

With some cheat... you can use the Insimenator and it's temporal adjuster to add some days for her. But... :D

Thank you, Mihura! I never thought of using the elixir of life. I thought the elixir just delays getting old. I didn't think it really subtracts days from their age.

Thanks again. :D

Regigigabz - I think it's implied that you shouldn't be cheating to give your sims extra cash in the legacy challenge. Just because they don't -say- you can't use motherlode doesn't mean you should. I mean, sure, go ahead if you like, it's your game, but the idea is to have a -challenge-, not to just cheat your way through it.

Okay, this is from a LONG time ago but it always puzzled me.

It was... just the base game, I think. I had a CAS-made family, and the older brother decided to sneak out with his girlfriend.

Unfortunately, he was brought back in the police car.

Has this happened to anyone? I didn't think it could.

I had one of my shy sims gaining fun and social points from the diary. Not by much, but it was a better social boost than he could otherwise manage at 3 AM with no computer... (Of course this might be related to his Outgoing score of 0.)

The motive boost was one little green arrow every sim half hour or so. I wouldn't have noticed if he hadn't been the only sim on the lot.

I have had snuck out sims brought back in a police car, but never dead. Of course I've had them with all their motives in the red trying to explain to their parents why they would like to stay home from school today... If the motives fell too far before they came home it wouldn't surprise me if they came home dead.

(Another use for maxmotives?)

2 more questions:
How do you get cheesecake and how do you get grilled cheese/make them want it?

Willow's Tara
19th May 2008, 02:54 AM
Pux- Well I did the single file and then went away to play the game, I think it might have been three hours,. not sure how long it will be seperately thought, could be the same execpt you have to sit there and keep clicking the links after the other one has finished.
Regigigigabz- If a Sim has a high enough cooking point (4 I think), click on the fridge and click make many, group meals then cheesecake and they will keep makiing cheesecakes, putting it in thier inventory until you tell them to stop.
Griloled cheese is made when you habve aleast 2 cooking points and when its lunchtime. A sim can want to eat Grilled Cheese occasionally, if they have the Grilled Cheese aspiriation then they will want it all the time.
