My hoods are called Sjödalen (Seavalley) and Grönska (Greenery). I have a plan for another hood, but no name so far. I´m from Sweden, so swedish names is not really exotic for me :P

Illusion Bay (multiplayer hood)
Tundra Valley (multiplayer hood)
Rosewood Park (MTS neighbourhood)
Rockport (Main hood)
Subhoods:
University of British Simlandia
Berlinghoff University
White Island (island vacation spot)

Getting tired of switching between maxis hoods/megahood and getting nowhere, so decided to try a custom hood for the first time. The first generation will probably be the students from the Universities and those in the sim bin. Bonus points to who can figure out where these came from
Main: Shamouti Island
Downtowns: Fire Island, Ice Island, Lightning Island (these will probably be the giveaway lol)
Shopping: Valenica Island, Navel Island, Sunburst Island
University: Trovita Island University
Vacation: Mandarin Island North, Madarin Island South
All except the vacation hoods are on Isle De Segundo(the island one, name doesn't sound right) template, the Vacation hoods are twikki island templates because i wanted them to be the beach lots of the north/south of the isand but Isla doesnt have beach lots.

Yea they're some of the Orange Islands names. My megahood was always called Sunset Beach after the 90's soap opera also. Think next I want to do a custom one centered around really formal stuff. Think i'll call it either Dynasty or Dallas hehe. Though I could always just do 2 megahoods for that.

I'm very uncreative, so actually just name my custom 'hoods after their .sc4 templates... with a twist!
Here are some of my towns:
New Arbordale (from Arbordale.sc4)
Driftwood City (from Drfitwood.sc4)
Moon Island (from MoonIslands.sc4)
Sedona Beach (from Sedona.sc4)

My new hood is called Penecape. I just translated two words to latin, put them together and then changed some letters. I´m happy with that name actually.
I'm not gonna tell you why that names sounds hilariously wrong from my point of view :D
Also, I've noticed that many towns in the united states are called "Spring-something". Springvale, Springdale, Springfield... I think I'll give one of these names to my newest neighborhood. I've been playing it for weeks and it still has no name or neighborhood picture.

I think out of all the neighbourhoods I have my favourites are Lush Valley and Viper Canon. Lush Valley is where I keep to the challenges Sims and Viper Canon is where all the Sim legacies are.
Although I do enjoy doing the tours around the original neighbourhoods (which I kept) and the other hoods - Black Lakes, Hue Mountains and RedZone City. Which mind you can be awesome, keeps the mind fresh and full of thoughts like WOAH When did I do that? :D lol
I enjoy giving my neighbourhoods weird names. In fact I'm about due for a new hood, still deciding on it's back story and what I want to do with it.

I have all the main ones, and several custom. Paradise Island (with all custom additional destinations for downtown, shopping, and college, all on islands), Nostalgiaville, where many iterations of my family live (from me as a kid to present), in homes as close to the real ones as I can build. Funny thing, so many sims ladies there look alike....:D. One is named for one of the kids, for her to play in. Another is Boondocks USA, which was inspired by all of the rustic, country, western, etc. stuff that I have found online. Sims there range from the founder family in "town", to farmers, dirt poor farmers, wannabe rock stars, and even some "mountain" people, very poor, with no indoor plumbing. Oh, yeah, tons of fun!

I name all my hoods in Maltiazi, the Universal Sim Name Language I have created. Otherwise they would just sound stupid.
My current hood, which is a tribal mountaintop village surrounded by a wall, is called Kulo Seeri. Literally translated, it means "Stone Village Number 2". (see what I mean?!) It is named after the chief of the tribe, Sena Seerijata (Sena II, in other words) who prefers to go by Seeri. It has an island subhood called Kulo Kor - "Stone Village of the Dead" - which is the tribal burial ground. Nobody actually lives there.
My first ever custom hood, and I only remember this because it was the first, was Hexagonia. No idea where the name came from and I don't think I ever actually played it. :)

Hexagonia is a great name! It seems obvious to me what it's based on, or it would if you were mapping on hex paper. (It's way too hard to get hex paper these days, says the tabletop gamer...)

It was years ago... I was in my early teens, hadn't quite refined my general love of all things bizarre and random into what is now the VT Original Setting (VTOS) rule, never thought of actually planning things out, and it was before I'd heard of tabletop roleplaying...
It was an island. I had lots of random odd families in there, even without the help of CC. I think, but I'm not sure, that I might have decided it was in the middle of somewhere like the Bermuda Triangle, only I made it a SimCity Hexagon... or something... sometimes, my early ideas bamboozle even me.
And sorry, I have no idea where to find hex paper either.

I have two main neighborhoods.
- Empty Homes Town
- Neighborhood Consolidation Inc. (a.k.a NCI)
Very original, lol. The first one you can guess why it's called that. I pretty much just build the homes there first, then if desired move them to the next neighborhood...NCI. There in NCI, the families reside all together.

My non-challenge neighborhood's name is Baskerville.
I run an NPC challenge in Wonderland (plus the subhoods Caterpillar Lane and The Abyss).
I didn't pay much mind to the name of the Test of Times challenge's neighborhood's name, so it's just called Bluewater after the template.

Love how creative everyone is! If I have to start over again it's always the word -Shady- that my hoods get in some form, lol.
I use Shady Valley as my Main hood
Ocean Grove as Shopping
Downtown is called Shady Cove.
Im was huge Eminem fan and Shady just sounds peacefull to me. Usually a weird mix of happy and horrid things happen in my neighborhoods. I love this game, so happy I got a new computer to play again, never could get into ts3.

So I was thinking earlier about my penchant for ugly and cartoony sims with exagerrated features, and I thought: "If I ever do a BACC, it'll be an island full of people striking out on their own when the Eugenicists start taking over their government and requiring them to have contraceptive implants if they vary too much from a standard; and I could put it on an island, and I could call it the Island of Misfit Sims! No, no, Island Refugia! That's much better."
My life consists of coming up with ideas I won't have time to carry out because I'm still working on the old ones.

I'm terrible at naming neighborhoods and always ended up naming them after the food I happened to be eating or thinking of at the time - Hidden Valley (like the dressing), Orville (like the popcorn). But on a whim I googled "random town names" and found this site (http://k4-pacific.com/nametown.php). Now I never have to name towns after food again!

My names are totally lame... I'm Italian so my old neighbourhoods had Italian names like... Francavilla al Mare.
My current favourite neighbourhood now is named Clay View. It sucks I know, but I really can't think of anything else.

5 years ago it was something like Olivland (taken after my name obviously :P ) and Trilania.
Since February '09 I've been playing in my custom 'hood named Nieznanowo (in English it might be translated as "Unknowntown") - I had no idea how to name my new 'hood and I thought I'd change it later. "Later" never happened :P
Nienanowo has it's own vacation subhood - it's called Wyspa królowej Melanii (Queen Melanie's Island). I was also going to "furnish" my own uni subhood, but I didn't manage to finish and now I have to delete it. It's name is Mądralkowo (sopmething like "Wittyland" :D )

I name my neighborhoods based on their gaming purposes.
For example, I used to have a neighborhood specifically for a mafia challenge, so I named it New York. I know, very original, right? XD
For the TOT challenge, I currently have an island neighborhood called the Isle of Tartar. Right now, all of my sims are in the Neanderthal period.

My neighborhood is called "Kvarteret Kattrumpan". It's swedish for "The Neighborhood Kittybottom". There actually is a neighborhood near downtown Stockholm called Kattrumpan, though nobody says that. xD I thought it was funny, so I called my new neighborhood that. Almost all communitylots are called something that puns on cats or buttoms. :D

My current custom hood is called Patience Island, I'm not sure where that came from and it's not really an island, but oh well. The one before that was called Mein Ville (My Town) in German, to distinguish it from all the endless hoods my brothers kept making and deleting, because they can never stick at one for more than a few weeks. I like the name of their current hood though: Kinivah Bay, which is an combination of two of my nicknames for them (Oliver --> Ollie --> Ollie Kins --> Kins --> Kinny --> Kinivah and Jacob --> Jake --> Jay --> Jay Bay --> Bay, in case you wanted to know).

My empire city, for the longest time, was No-Name, as I wanted the name to come about naturally. Later while decorating I jammed a giant stone bridge into the hillside for no reason, and it was christened Stonebridge.

I have 2 hoods going one for Legacy and the other is just a random town.
Legacy Hood is named: Oakgrove
Random Hood is named: Pinewood Acres
Oakgrove is a very laid back country town while Pinewood Acres is a bit more modern in feel.

I have one custom hood named 'Calopsita' because I love cockatiels, and 'calopsita' is Portuguese for 'cockatiel'. It has a subhood named 'Goffin' which is a species of cockatoo. Also, I have a custom hood I'm working on, sort of building from the ground up, named 'Heresville' after the default city name from Sim City Classic. It doesn't have a Downtown yet, though I will be making a connection to the default Downtown so I can have the House of the Fallen Trees and get the Tricou bastards to resurrect their dead daddy. I will add it pretty soon, once there are enough businesses that would warrant that kind of connection. Also, once I have that many businesses, I will add the default vacation spots, since in the game, commerce does require an airport. Of course, it will function a little differently from the original Sim City type cities because it doesn't really have any 'industrial zone' function, and the business lots are sort of industry/commerce hybrids. I might plunk down a few industry-type decorations though, and of course some power plants if I can find them. Might also move out one of the servos and have her adopt some of the townie kids, just so they can grow up properly and get their aspirations rolled. I might even have them use the Sensorb once they get into the green and give them a chance to reroll their aspirations or get grilled, because I want some Grilled Cheese teens, dangit!

This may not be the place for this but how can you change the name of the Shopping District. I know you can do it when you first use it but I didn't and now I have at least 6 Bluewater Villages and would like to give them different names. Have about 15 hoods but they are all the original name used when I downloaded them.

For naming my hoods, I think of the ending name:
-City
-Station
-Hills
-Island
-Mountain
-etc.
And then I think of a beginning name, which can be anything.
-Lakeview
-Burberry
-Purewater
-Cherryblossom
-Evergreen
-etc.
My current custom hood which I just started uses my favorite neighborhood template, Belladonna Cove. And it is named Springwater Station.

I have one coming up called "Asiana" where nearly all the Sims are East Asian, Indian, Mideastern, etc. The college subhood is called "Fusang University." If you Google "Fusang" you'll find there was a Chinese writing in 499 CE of a travel East that sounds an awful lot like they reached the West coast of N America.

Nova Fields.
I started a new hood a few months ago, called it Nova, and placed six single person households based on the man character archetypes. After a few rotations decided that Fields was an appropriate nickname given all the wide open space. After a game-year I added the Nova family, who I imagined as poor farmers forced or enticed to sell their fertile homestead to developers in order to create this sub division. They were old and childless so they adopted a Objiway boy.
4-5 game years in, now 15 households, 55 sims. I've added some trees to improve the view, some windmills, a general store for necessities (food and smokes) and a nature sanctuary (which also contains the fishing hole, graveyard and hockey rink). Everything else is downtown.

I tend to steal neighbourhood names from songs.
My current custom hood is the Beatles-themed 'Strawberry Fields' complete with streets such as Abbey Road, Penny Lane, Blue Jay Way etc. There's Rigby cemetery and Mean Mr Mustard's grocery store plus the Beatles themselves wandering around. I've actually had to move the fab four Downtown because Beatlemania in SF was becoming unbearable (constant stalkers outside their homes after midnight etc.)

My favorites are: Tombstone - a desert western town, lots of farms and ranches (inspired by western and animal CC). Area51 - the only place I use all my alien skins and try to kill off all the "humans". Paradise - where a special template allowed lots of beach front lots, everyone fishes (lots of fish and flower businesses), and I allow my mods that create random coupling, babies, and no jealousy. I've tried for period hoods (Victorian, 1950's), but can never stick to it.

In Strangetown I have a downtown called Telescope Ridge. My main custom hood is called Simpleton. I think my sister chose that name. Morlia (named for their lack of moral values . . . lots of Alien babies and experiments with townie genetics here. I have a Stoneybrook hood for a Baby Sitters Club challenge.
There's no real pattern to my names other than that they sound good to me.
