View Full Version : Doing large re-structure mod on Writing, need little help with...

Howdie,
I'm doing a fairly robust restructuring of Writing, tweaking almost everything involved with it. Couple items I'm unsure of.

There are 3 "genres" (book types) that I'm unsure of what the requirements are in order to write them.

I base book value/royalties/length etc very dependent upon how hard it is to get the genre. So knowing exactly what's required, for the following, is important to me so I know where said books lay in my genre ranking scheme.

Political Memoir I've seen this, my sim was a Political career, but I cannot recall when/why this genre became available. It may have become available after I quit the career, or maybe when I hit level 10 in the career. I just can't recall.

Life Story I've yet to see this in game. Assume this might be part of the "History" type books, which requires an Elder sim. Help!

Historical Ditto, yet to see it in game. Also assume it's an Elder sim option. Help2!

Please reply with certainty, or at least good (and hopefully quick) methods I can use to test in game.

Hmm, I don't know how many people under the discussion area are going to have knowledge of modding.

Well isn't really a question about mod'n. It's about game play. I just want to know what/how/when/why these occur. Game play is the only way (that I see) to find out. So posting to here might more quickly net me a result. :)

heh I love my little avatar too, made it many moons ago and happily I haven't lost the file yet!

I'm almost positive "Historical" just requires being an elder. "Political Memoir" I know is linked to a political career, but don't know what actually grants the genre. Absolutely no clue what grants "Life Story".

I definitely have to test, but currently up to my elbows just editing the mod (and going to work, which -- UGH -- I have to do soon!) :)

Apologies! When you wrote 'tweak' I read it though you were trying to create a mod so this option was available for non-elder sims.

I have only had one writer sim so far (current), but she just got up to writing her first masterpeices. I have not done the political carrer..

I'm going to try to do a search online to help find answers for you. I'm pretty good at 'wcif' type stuff. (Sorry I know you wanted to person/s who posted to know for certain.)

Cool! What kind of changes are you working on doing? I think it was yesterday I made a post about how crapy I thought the novel writing system was. So, you has my interests! :p

Well lots of things. :)
I've just submitted the first TEST version, might be a few days before it gets through the moderation process.
However, it's available now on my forum (see my profile for a link).
The thread, on my site, is "Professional Author..."
You don't have to register on my site to read/download, but would if you wish to post.

Currently (ver 1) is very untested. I put in about 2 hours of play with it (and no other mods) without major issues, some minor ones though. Did a re-edit (which is what I've submitted and is on my site) but yet to re-test with that.

Very hard skill to toy with, as there are so many modifiers that can affect a finished book, many of which remain hidden to me still (eg: various trait combinations).
