View Full Version : building L shaped stairs (with Scriptorium)

OK, so I have been driving myself UP the wall for a long time, trying to figure this out.

I have been trying to build L and U shaped interior stairs for AGES. Like the ones in these pictures:

I was told that installing Scriptorium would make it very easy. I did, yet I STILL cannot figure out how to do it! I figured installing it would make it so that somehow, I could place an interior stage with a piece of modular stair reaching to it, and then another piece of modular stair reaching to the upper floor, and voila, L and U shaped stairs! But it seems it's not that simple, and I just CAN'T figure out what steps I am missing or what else I have to do to make it happen.

I have seen tutorials on how to make these stairs using lots of cheats and terrain height changes and so on, but I was given to understand that using Scriptorium it would be a lot simpler... so I must be missing something.

If ANYONE can please point me in the right direction and show me how I can create those types of stairs with Scriptorium installed, I would be very, eternally grateful.

All the Scriptorium does is make the installation of custom stairs a bit easier – it has no influence on what you can *do* with those stairs.

From what I can see on the screenshots, those stairs are built using the OfB stage as a landing. Since you have OfB installed (says your profile), this should be dead simple -- plunk down one tile of stage (or more), build stairs from top floor to stage, build stairs from stage to bottom floor (i.e. exactly like you describe). There are no tricks involved with this. If you run into any difficulties building that kind of stairs, please post in the Build mode forum with a screenshot of where exactly you get stuck.

ETA -- just moved this to Build mode siince you don't have a game problem anyway. So reply here (with a screenshot) for build mode help.

Thanks for the answer. Sorry it was in the wrong section :) I'm more familiar with the "social" side of the forums than the modding side, so I didn't know there was a "build" forum at all!

I do have OFB, and all the other expansions, for clarification.

I have tried that method of building the stairs, and it doesn't work. I place a landing, and then whether I try to build the stairs from the second floor down or the first floor up, it doesn't work. So I haven't got a clue what else I'm supposed to do! :(

Again, please post screenshots. Nobody knows what you mean by "doesn't work" when we don't see what you're trying to do. Thank you.

To give you an example, here's a thread with great screenshots: http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=373200 -- large, close up, and labeled where necessary. As you can see, the problem was solved very quickly.

Well like I said, I'm trying to build L and U shaped stairs using the interior stage and the modular stairs. By doesn't work, I mean that when I'm placing the stairs, I get only red footprints, and they will not place, whether I'm starting from the bottom floor or the upper floor.

I build the bottom floor and the stage:

Then I build the modular stairs up onto the stage:

Then I create the second floor, and when I try to place the stairs from the stage onto the upper floor, it says this:

Now, with the pics, I see where your problem is easily - you do not have enough room for your staircase. Although your pics are dark! Remove the auto-roof to take a clearer pic.

From the pics, depending on what your intention was:

From your 2nd floor, to place on your stage, you need to either

move your tiles back and have 4 tiles free from top of landing to stage or
place another stage down on the 1st floor, in the direction of where the stairs would go, remove the walls first if needed

From your 2nd floor, to place stairs to the ground level, you need to remove the walls.

See thumbnail to count how many tiles you need free in front of staircases.

Thank you! I had to fiddle around a bit but I finally got it! :)
