Installing then it disappears/TS3

I am installing Sims 3 and about halfway through the installation the installation page disappears. I can still hear the CD running in the drive so I don't mess with my computer. About 5 minutes later for a few seconds a white Sims 3 desktop shortcut appears then disappears. Then it quits working on the CD...it just stops. How do I get it to fully install?

I read that you could open it with just using TS3...I find it but I do not know how to open it or what to open it with.

P.S. I have Windows Vista if this helps and I have plenty of memory for I have bought a new laptop with lots of memory.

Can the computer read other CDs or DVDs using this same optical drive?
Is this the first time you're installing the game on this computer or has it been installed successfully before? Does Window Explorer recognized the DVD, ie the autorun works?

If you have another computer, have you tried installing using the same DVD on the other machine?
