I have just built the shell of my house and the staircase to the entrance is really bugging me! Please can I have an opinion on what looks best.

Personally I like the second option better if i could get the part circled to move down 3 clicks and stay down but I have played around with it for over an hour and a half now and once i take the cheat off and then undo it just goes straight back up which its not meant to do :faceslap:

I do still like the second option but that little peice is bugging the hell out of me that now I dont know what to think!! So please let me know what looks better! :help:

In my opinion this is not too tragical..I personally prefer the first option(wood is more in my tastes) but is this problem considered as a mistake?because i'm usually facing it too..

I like that one too! Personally I don't think it looks THAT bad. perhaps making the spot next to what you have pointed sloped down one more click? Or how about taking out the foundation for the last few tiles (the last part of the stairs...looks like it is 3 tiles) and just sloping the ground. You could even find ground cover that matches the brick to cover that ground?

OR the easiest way to "hide" this little flaw (which again...I dont think looks THAT bad) change your bricks to a solid colour, then it won't be so noticable. Perhaps even just on the stairs part.

You may have tried this allready..but how about clicking that one peice your trying to, down, then turning off the cfe cheat and leveling the ground infront of it? Shouldn't move back up that way.

Have been doing that but for some reason it keep popping back up once the CFE is off which has been the frustrating part! Think its bothering me so much because I know its supposed to just stay down and it wont! Will try it again when I load up the game as sometimes it suddenly works after being turned off, which will prob annoy me even more since I was trying to fix it for over an hour :deal: Now looking at the whole house again Im just not liking it all that much and wondering if I should scrap it and start again!!!

I like the second one more- the wood staircase looks odd outside and looks like it would rot.

Looking at this again, I'm kinda thinking that the slope of that part of the foundation isn't the problem, but maybe the fence. Have you tried a solid brick fence, with no grey post thingy's on them. This might flow better with the sloping...if that makes sense. Changing the brick wallpaper on the foundation to a solid colour of stucko perhaps...may hide the akwardness of that one part.

It will only go down to the equivalent of foundation height. I think it has something to do with the base level going into negative clicks... there is no way around that unless you make a dummy level underground, which is not worth the effort for this type of thing.

My only suggestion is that if you want the walls around the sides (which I think looks better), add another piece of wall so that it completely surrounds the stairs instead of putting a fence piece on the ground at the bottom. Also, I would recommend a fence similar to the one I used in my test of your design instead of the one you are currently using - the brick fence you have is too big to work as a railing.

You're absolutly right Katalina I hadnt made one of these staircases in a long time and had completely forgot about taking it to the length of the stairs :faceslap: And it does look much better in that fence you used, is that just with the basegame though, as this is all im making it with. Havnt even loaded it today will have a look tomorrow and see, bedtime now!

It should be for basegame, it is one of the "pedimentary my dear" fences. If not, then it might be from Uni :(. But one of the little brick fences that are meant for flowerbeds would probably also look good.

This is a bit off topic, but your columns are bugging me.They fit in and all, but I can't stand that little gap. I suggest one of these or these if you don't mind the suggestion. There also might be a fix floating around somewhere, but I can't seem to find it.

Thanks for that they were bugging the hell out of me too! Why is it Eaxis can never take it just a little bit further and have things 'fit'! I tend to use these alot to close up the gap, http://www.4eversimfantasy.net/other10.htm but they only have madethem in two colours so kinda limtis what you put it with!

If you want to cover up the wood of the stairs, then you should download this:

I'm not sure if you can use the fencing with it, but I hope it helps!
