If anyone wants to test my WA file for France, which is finished (I think), please go ahead.

You just need to back up the France.world file in C/Program Files/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3 World Adventures/GameData/Shared/NonPackaged/Worlds, then import the XML into the France.world file in that same location using s3pe.

It should, if it's working, give all the sims and households in France flavour texts. It will also make Adele Durand the sister of Manon Godard. Also, all the ghosts in the graveyards should now have traits and flavour text (they had no traits before). A few Sims are now celebrities, making France a useful destination for LN. The other locations won't have many/any celebrities.

It will only affect new games. Not existing ones.

You may need to clear the caches from My Documents.

Seems EA knew what they were doing. Make the game hard enough to patch that people were willing to buy the latest stuff pack because it's easier than uninstalling/reinstalling all the games...

The installation of TL has seemed to fix the issue and I'm back in my game, thank goodness! It actually seems to be running smoother even, which I won't complain about.

But you should be able to install the Sims 3 using the mac operating system... You just can't use EA's download manager so you'll need the physical CDs. Eventually, I came back over from the dark side (lol, as in I stopped using a mac), and now I have a windows desktop. So much easier! But the game definitely does work on a mac.

I use a mac. And my game works fast. And takes less then a half hour to load (From start up to playing about... five - ten minutes depending on how much stuff is in the game).

I've goatta ask, Buckley, my Adrian or the Dawson's Adrian? Cause both of them I love. Adrian Dawson has goatta a gritty but sweet vibe. My Adrian was just an ass until he found out he had a son. I should make a list of all the marriages he broke up...

Oh, I don't have a problem with Macs. My whole family is a mac family. But, I prefer windows as I have found it to be less laggy and glitchy. But that can probably be blamed on the laptop vs. desktop thing. So I guess I have a flag in both camps, lol.

Actually, I was referring to Adrian Dawson, but my simself would totally go for your Adrian without so much as blinking. She doesn't discriminate... A hot guy is a hot guy after all (or so my simself says). ;)

Kiwi Tea, can anyone download your France file? I have NO experience with s3pe or anything, but I'm going to look into getting that routing fix from ellacharm3d. If I can figure that out, I would love to download and try out your flavor text file. When I get the courage to install it, what should I be looking for? Never tried to fiddle with my game before, but I would LOVE to have the destination people actually have personalities. (By the way, how badly can I screw up my game if I mess up the install? :blink: )

Using s3pe just to import files is very very simple. ^_^ The best instructions are the ones that ellacharm3d supplies, they apply to my files as well. It's as simple as opening the world in s3pe, selecting Resource>Import from File on the menu, browsing to the files I (or ellacharm3d) supplied, and importing them. Save your changes, and you're done.

I've just this minute discovered where the WA worlds cache to. You need to clear the world caches in Program Files/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3 World Adventures/Caches before loading.

If you back up your files, you can't do any damage to your game. It would be hard for anything to go wrong, but if it does, just switch back to your original files, clear those caches again, and it'll be like nothing ever happened. ^_^

Edit: Okay, Simsample and I are having some issues with whether the changes show up *consistently*, so there will still be some delay with this.

Quick question - I found a mod that allows a sim to sell their potions and actually get some money back, I'm wondering if I rolled freelance scientist, I could sell the potions since I actually can earn money from them now?

There's a weird shine on the bottom part (for some reason it's more obvious on the right side) of my sim self's hair - it's not the hair colour's fault, but a small glitch I have with CAS (and it's normal in game) that makes some parts shine different colours, especially on the hair.

The amount of money you actually get from most of them is relatively small. Plus, I think EA should have made the potions sellable anyway. Besides, frankly hacking (also part of Freelance Scientist) can amount you a small fortune in a very small time frame. It's not unusual to get 1500-2000 Simoleans in a single session.

Actually, on that subject, I'm thinking about splitting Hacking off into it's own career. It doesn't seem very "Sciency" to me. My concern is that searching the galaxy brings home very little cash, so perhaps that could be secondary only?

Well, Collecting is a career of itself right now, but I suppose it could be integrated into Freelance Scientist. It would certainly help to make it less fricking boring! That's basically the main reason that.... what happens in my last chapter.... happens because I got bored to tears of watching Isabella using a telescope or the computer 24/7.

Also, hacking is trait dependent; you need ComputerWhiz to even be able to do it. That's fine for your heir who you can assign traits to, but for your spouse having hacking as the only career option would be a pain, as you would either have to find one with the right trait, or save up 20k points to change their traits.
I think we could roll collecting insects and space rocks into Freelance Scientists, but save the gems and metals for Collector (who could still sell insects & space rocks as well). That would keep the two careers distinct.

I have the opposite issue. I always roll a couple of some sort... I need some variety! Although I'm only in my second generation (sort of), but when I was in my fourth of my failed legacy I rolled couple three times. THREE. The fourth was mixed couple lol.

Already in hand :) Pets are (possibly) going to be incorporated into the Marital Status rolls, ie not every generation will have pets. Probably people will be allowed to choose what pets they have, I don't think I'll say "you have to have this pet this generation" and then you will roll on a "Pets Careers" table, same as you already do for your Sims :)

Option 2, is to make goals centered around pet career's like, "Have a top police dog" or "win all equestrian events." I'm sort of leaning towards that one, but haven't decided yet.

The awesome thing about already having access to alot of the Pets stuff via the STBL, is that I can go through it and already start drafting up rules. It's a little sketchy at the moment, and probably will be until Pets is released, but it is at least a start.

STBL is all of the text strings that the game uses. Loads of Pets stuff was included in the patch, this is where most of the new info has come from.

Also, that is why I am leaning towards option 2. That way you can have pets, but they can only have jobs if you roll the relevant goal.

Reya, my problem is only ever getting one child. My first abandoned legacy, my founder rolled 1 child. Now, generation 1 and 2 of my current legacy is 1 kid. I'm probably going to end up putting my foot in my mouth for complaining about it though when I roll single parent with 5 kids, perfect children goal. But right now I desperately want more babies!

Emma, your simself is quite pretty. I have never attempted a simself before. I'm afraid it would end up looking like some sort of mutant cartoon character you see on those creepy kids' channel shows. :D

And by the way, I feel your pain about children. I work at a daycare facility, and on average I deal with between 8 to 10 screaming toddlers a day (not at the same time, but over the course of a work day). I swear my job is like the best birth control ever... Once you deal with that many spoiled 2-year-olds, your desire to have children of your own vanishes. Sometimes I wish real life would imitate the Sims... how cool would it be to only have to toss a child in the air to change a stinky diaper? Lol!


EDIT: Severed, I like that idea about the pets' job being a goal. We can probably find some miscellaneous fun things for them to! (Personally, I am pumped for the new expansion pack, if you couldn't tell. :cool: )

Melissa, I completely agree. I hated giving my pets careers in TS2 so I never bothered with it myself. But it would be nice to have the opportunity to explore pets careers. That is why the goal idea would work well, in my opinion.

Maybe it could be an optional roll, like the famous heir rule, so if people want to choose their pets, they can, but they can roll it too. I mean, it's more of a personality thing for the sims, no income and stuff come from it.
There should be a roll for no pets, one pet, two, etc. Then the person can roll for a category of animals, like cat, dog, bird, reptile, furry small animal (rant/ LIKE RABBITs IF THE MORONS ON EA FREAKING ADD ONE! Seriously, chinchillas and hedgehogs are added but not RABBITS! /end rant), and misc if any don't fit into a category. Of course this is rough, but it's a good idea :)

Though it would be fun if there was an animal lady/dude misc. fun roll that you have to have at least 3 (I would say more, but that could ruin plots if there's any more) of the same breed (like the same type of cat, same type of dog, etc).

I do exactly the same thing. I begin to make a "real" version of myself and then by the time I'm finished, it's what I *wished* I looked like. Ah well. I gave up on making a sim-self a long time ago.

Oh I actually toned it down on the boob part for my character. xD I won't lie, I am attractive but I took some artistic license with my nose and muscle tone. My real nose looks like the love child of squidward from spongebob....

Well I just considered killing my legacy. Four hours of insane lag and then it crashed on me. Without the lag it would have only been about an hour's worth of play so that just SUCKED. Ah frick it. I'm just going to use mods to get relationships back to where I want them and then age up stupid Gabe and Blinky early. I'm thinking the lag is from the amount of people in the family.

Also the game suspiciously crashed just as Grim was returning to the plot. COINCIDENCE? I THINK NOT.

Oh and the sims I've put into my "Saved Sims" bin aren't showing up in my pre-made sims bin in CAS. Can someone help me with that?

This can happen if the Sims you added are from a game that has different expansions/different patches to you. Sometimes not only will they not show up, but half your other saved Sims won't show up either.

So if you've been adding from the Sims people have been uploading in this thread, that's probably it (I don't know how the exchange deals with it *shrug*).

I like the idea of the pet roll being optional. Because I intend to have pets when I want them, anyway. :P
I think we need to find out if pets count toward the total of household members before we make up Misc. Fun rules about having a set number of pets, because if they do count, you can't have a couple with 5 kids and 3 pets.

Okay, so I have a question. I'm not sure if this has been brought up before (145 pages to look through!), and I don't *think* I saw it in the rules (at least I hope not, or else I will *facepalm*).

Question: Is it cheating if we buy the "Family Inheritance" achievement with our lifetime points?

I'm really tempted since I think the Dennis's won't be able be to afford their "change of scenery" that I planned before the kids age up to teens... and the house they are in (even with expansions) warrants a serious game of sim tetris right now in order to move them around. :|

Not to mention the picture taking fiasco that is my legacy right now.

That's what I'm afraid of too Melissa. In the sims 2 though there was a separate count for pets though so I'm guessing it will stay that way... but who knows. We still have 2.5 months.

We ended up deciding that Money LTR's are allowed, so go for it :)

The only banned LTR's are moodlet/motive style ones. There are a few special conditions involving others... but generally they are allowed.

I'm having a horrible time with the Private Investigator Career. My game keeps glitching and stopping investigations mid-way through. I've had to reset the town twice to get investigations rolling normally again. He should realistically be at level 7 or 8 where I'm at in-game, but he is still stuck at level 5. *headdesk*

Yeah, ghost hunter is the best career money wise EVER! Well, one of them anyway :) I love Nathalie's weekly pay of 2970 or something like that :) She's staying alive for as long as possible (without the use of Death Flower, though I could) just for that :P

And at least you're able to do any investigating giga, my glitches with that career are so bad that I can't even report in. Poor Tyson had to reroll and settle for being in law enforcement XD

It's not a fantastic likeness... my face is longer, but the sliders wouldn't go any further without making me look like a mutant, and my hair doesn't look like that, but the game really can't accurately portray my unique hair colour =/ but the basic facial features are about right. I have a bit of a dilemma, I have a batch of screenshots from before my save games decided to go all unloadable on me, but I've only just my game back up to the end of my last update (and there are already a couple of minor changes in how it panned out so far).

The screenshots contain some stuff that's pretty significant in my planned storyline so do I repeat those bits or just go with what I have in pictures so far & get them to a similar point again?

Well, AJH, I've been in a similar boat. I think I ended up playing the same Wednesday five times because of glitches. It was an important day in my story, luckily I was able to get screenshots of it the first time I played it. Then the game crashed. When I reloaded I had to start all over again. Since I already had the pictures, I decided just to go through the day. I didn't do anything like skilling or something that would pertain to "cheating", but then it crashed again. Fast forward three more times and I basically didn't do anything with my sims except make them stand there and refilled their motives with the testingcheats as I held my breath through the trouble spot.

Never did figure out what was causing the issues, but once I got caught up, I was able to play as usual...

Damn you all! Now I felt obligated to make a selfsim. I absolutely loathe doing self-portraits of any kind. >_< Anyways, the eyes and mouth are fairly accurate. The nose is off because there just aren't enough nostril adjustment options. And the hair colour isn't right. Mine has more gold-brown in it and a little less red, but there's no way I'm was ever going to get it accurate.

Oh, and I will upload my Self-Sim when I am happy with it, at the moment it really doesn't look a huge amount like me. On another note.... EGC is updated! Woooop! I can actually play the game again! Plus, more importantly, it gives me my slider hack back, so I can actually make my Self-Sim look like me. You do all have slider hacks installed right? I'm not sure what happens if you try and put a Sim created with a slider hack in when you don't have a hack.

@Sever If you install a sim created with a slider hack, the face/body/etc will stay as they are just so long as you (ie; the person who doesn't have said sliders) don't attempt to edit the general face/body size in CAS, if so, it will all go poof and said sim will look as they did before the hacks were used.

Also, looks like i might have started a sim self trend for the legacy lol, can't wait to install all of us (dude creepy sounding). I seriously need to update before my game gets too far ahead, but i've got the brats, aka my niece and nephew, staying with me for most of August and one is as obsessed with the sims as i am and the other uses me as a jungle gym. So blogging gets a little difficult when i have a 5 year old sitting on my shoulders and an 8 year old bitching at me for her turn on the computer. Yes, my 8 year old niece plays the sims, with all my mods installed.... sim penis shouldn't scar her for life too much should it?.... Ah well, it'll be her mother's issue, not mine lol. I think the features transfer, i know when my sim self was stalking my legacy her kid ended up getting similar features, and since i used hacks to make my sim self, i'd say there's a very good chance. Lucky for that poor kid, cause her dad was ugly as sin.

Also, totally off topic but: sweet jumping jesus, i'm finally installing the TL patch, sim god save this poor sim addict from patch fail! I held off for as long as i good, since i don't have the stuff pack, but i've finally given in *hides & hopes for the best* :blink:

I think I'm going to quit this self-sim and just make a Gloria Swanson sim and say it's me.

I ended up using Arisuka's face sculpting make up and subtle wrinkles. Even then, it doesn't look like me. None of the hair looks remotely like my hair, and none of the facial hair even comes close to mine either. I shave my upper lip and cheeks obsessively, but god help me if I ever have a self-sim with THAT chin-strap they offer. And this game can't make my nose. Nor the shape of my head. And don't even get me started on the body! :P

Gah, I wanted Nathalie to go to France really badly *cries* (both plotwise and because I got an opportunity), but France HATES me! I installed that route fixing mod and it made the load time so much better, but it has so many glitches. Nathalie's picture in the portrait is blank, there are no wishes/LTW, the sim panel is unclickable, every object has no interaction, can't click up and down to see the different house levels (even when around the base camp, where I suppose invisible Nathalie is), I can click the "my home" button to send me to the base camp but can't use the "my sim" button to send me to the location of Nathalie, the bar showing how happy Nathalie is turned BLUE, and the little arrow that shows the opportunity disappears when clicked (when usually the arrow stays but not the message above, but the message above never showed). Pretty much unplayable at the moment, though I looked through France a bit with my camera and found it pretty cool :( I want Nathalie to explore it with me! *sulks*

And all rom-com's go, friends end up hooking up and her second child, Bonnie, is the result...

As she is the first born, Alyssa is the heir. She gets to have 5, yes 5, kiddlies with a (possibly) handsome foreigner, yet has to remain single, fun for her! She's gotta work 9 to 5 in the Business career and become a property mogul.

I haven't ever had any problems with WA but you guys make me so paranoid so I rarely try. xD Might go for Louna's child's generation though. (Goes with the whole "super spy" idea, no?)

So I FINALLY got Sheridan into my bin. FI-NA-LY. After hours and hours of playing around and shuffling sims in and out of my folder I finally figured out that it was one of the sims I got from Cali that was corrupting the folder. So I took out every single one except Sheridan, and that ended up working. Finally I can proceed with the game. xD So no update tomorrow (possibly) unless I can finish with Louna's epic party before tomorrow night so that I can finish the chapter. Gosh lag hurts my timing.

Oh and Grim comes back in ch. 72! -I- honestly can't wait. I've missed my little reaper boy.

Welcome to the Challenge :) For Job Hopper, all jobs are valid. Standard, Non-Standard, and Ambitions Jobs. So just roll how you would normally for a career, ie on the main careers table first, and then the secondary table once you know what sort of job it is.

Now according to MC's readings, there are no kids in town, which is bull cause i have 2 living in my legacy house, and there's like 35 teenagers. Now every time i click on my teen while she's in school or mouse over the school while it's in session, the game freezes and shuts off. *head desk*

I'm having serious aging issues in my neighborhood as well, from when I had teen pregnancy on, as well as no limit to the number of kids families could have (both have been changed now thanks to Martin's excellent advice!) but I have two generations of sims that both had offspring as teens, so a fair number of the sims in my neighborhood have had the pleasure of living long enough to see their great-grandchildren. It's making a huge mess of my family tree as well, since they all have 4 or 5 siblings. UGH. Hopefully as the older folks die out and the "one/two child per house rule" is in effect longer that will decrease, but it sure starts me off with a gigantic family tree.

I've seen a bunch of teens getting knocked up as of late in my game as well, i think i need to go limit how many kids the npc's can have, because it's getting insane. I hope i don't have to move my legacy to a new hood, because i never have any luck going from one town to another. I think i've only been able to get it to work once *grumble* I think i'll go on a killing spree in my game, get rid of a bunch of townies, see if that helps.

Could also be that my niece just installed a bunch of crap off of the exchange, the one place i stay away from more than TSR, i don't trust CC that i've not tested first. Damn her for being so smart, when i was eight i... well, didn't have a computer obviously, but i'm sure if i had, i wouldn't have figured out how to install CC for a game all on my own lol.

Well, to be honest, I've done that. I've knocked off a couple people (ie: total annihilation) just to not have to put so many people in my family tree. But to be fair, I only extincted the ones that didn't have children or spouses yet. I'm not a total ruthless 'watcher'. =)

the things not showing as installed happened to me, especially with stuff I've gotten from TSR. Also, have updated the EADM, it's now called Origin, and I think it might still be connecting to the old one I had that problem for a while too until it recognized Origin.

That is EXACTLY what happened with my sims vampire game I was working on. It only starts glitching after Stacey(Yes, Yes she was named after you ^^) aged up to teens, and then the parents both realised they were pregnant at the same time (I was playing around with pollination)

BE: My game hasn't been connecting to the download manager for quite awhile now either. Actually, it does SOMETIMES. And not others. Which is even more confusing.

Ouch, that sounds like a nasty glitch BE/Lacey, my game is starting to lag pretty bad but I'd chose that over it crashing. Off to take out personalities, hopefully that will help.

My SP settings for base number of kids must be broken or something. I set it to 2, and I can think of several families that are just popping out kids like no tomorrow. Sometimes I get rid of the kids with less interesting features, if they already have siblings to carry on their family lines.

Luckily I haven't had the glitch you guys describe. Ouch.

Maddie, that *kind* of helped my lag when I did that. Though not by too much. I've noticed that some times when I load my game it seems like it's working ok, and other times it lags terribly and/or freezes/crashes. I just chalk it up to a "bad load" and try again (though it takes about a full hour from clicking the Play button on the launcher to getting to play... sigh).

the things not showing as installed happened to me, especially with stuff I've gotten from TSR. Also, have updated the EADM, it's now called Origin, and I think it might still be connecting to the old one I had that problem for a while too until it recognized Origin.

If you are willing to do the extra work, you can always convert your sims 3 packs to packages to *hopefully* avoid that problem. Funny thing is, I had that issue before I patched so I converted a lot of sims 3 packs to package files so I wouldn't keep running into that... and then once I patched, everything was fine. *shrug*

Also, I have the same issue with Origin not connecting, but I found that if you leave it open and running in the background, it disconnects on its own. If you are able to install it... that *might* be one of the issues. You have to close it and re-open it, at least that works for me.

If you aren't able to "upgrade" to Origin (pah... upgrade), then I don't know what is going on there.

It is sad to hear so many people are having issues with this patch! I haven't run into any problem, so perhaps I'm just lucky...

Looks like EA really messed this one up.

PS... and as Redhead pointed out further up, Exchange items are no bueno. :| I had so many issues when I downloaded from there that I had to completely scrap a whole game (6th generation too) and delete all Exchange content. *shakes fist* Worst.Day.Ever.

I was having a similar problem last week after I patched. I would start up my game, and a few minutes in it would crash to desktop with an error message saying something along the lines of the Sims 3 has stopped working and what do I want to do? It was odd because after a crash my speakers would emit a constant buzzing, and I'd have to reboot. (However, I later discovered that the buzzing was irrelevant.)

So, I followed the instructions I found here at MTS, trying to rule out basic problems. When those suggestions didn't work, I posted on the help page.

Well, for whatever reason my game stopped crashing at that point, although it has been lagging much more than it used to. Someone recommended I check my custom content with Delphy's Dashboard, trying to rule out the possibility of corrupt cc. It turns out I had 2 versions of master controller installed, 1 old and 1 current. Also, my sound card was *slightly* out dated, so I updated it.

I never imagined my crashes might have something to do with the patch, but after your post I am wondering. The timing does seem peculiar, as they started after I patched.

But back to your problem. Have you tried the MTS instructions for crashes and lags? The can be found here:

Lol, I'm sure you have, but these problems are the most common and it is good to rule them out. Also, (again, I'm guessing you thought of this but I just want to be sure) make sure your graphics card and sound card are updated.

Finally, I noticed you mentioned that you were having issues with the launcher. What does your error message state? I always get an error message saying that the launcher "can't connect to the EA Download Manager." For the most part, this error is caused by your antivirus software not letting the launcher connect to the internet. When I need to use the download manager, I just temporarily shut off my firewall, and *poof* it works again. It's worth a try if you haven't thought of that already.

I hope you can fix your problem! If it keeps happening, you can always try posting on the official help forums and wait for someone more knowledgeable than myself to reply. Good luck! :)

There's a windows setting that causes that sometimes when you've installed a new EP or SP (happened to me with OLS) where you need to add the relevant version of Sims to an allowed list but I can't for the life of me remember what it was.
