So, my computer is officially broken. :( I had a computer techie come out to take a look at it, and apparently my new nVidia GeForce GTX 570 graphics card has decided it doesn't want to work. Which bums me out. I had my machine custom built in June of this year, and it was supposed to "top-of-the-line"... whatever that means. *Sighs* The guy who looked at it said that graphics cards break a lot and it's not unusual, but still. I won't be able to play until I get it replaced, which could be a while (best case scenario is Monday, worst case I'm w/o a computer for a month). I just hope it's still under warranty, else I'm out $300-$350 big ones.

I think I need a hug.

(Hmm, I wonder if my MacBook will explode if I try to play on it... It's like a year old now, and I'm sure the graphics card is integrated. That would probably be a horrible idea to try though, right?)

Don't know what your MacBook's like, but my laptop is over two years old and manages Sims 3 without exploding or anything like that

Also, *finally* fixed my issue with build/buy. It turns out it was some corrupted CC that the dashboard didn't pick up. I'm not sure why that would only affect Harper's apartment and not NPC houses, but at least it's fixed. I'm eagerly awaiting my next glitch now. :|

Moryrie: I have no clue. I don't have a frame rate limiter, but maybe I should get one? To show my total lack of computer knowledge, is it possible to be getting too many fps? I mean could that have caused my graphics card to die? How many fps is considered "normal" or "safe" for the Sims? Thanks for your help/advice! :)

@Buckley, 30-60 is good/safe. TS3 often does a much higher rate than that, especially on a good card, which causes the card to overheat and die. There's a limiter at MATY. You have to launch it using their 3booter shortcut though instead of ts3.exe, or the launcher, or it won't activate.

Yeah. 30 is the recommended and default setting that comes with the one on MATY. That's the frame rate all our movies have as well. I mess with the settings to set mine to 40, so if there's a slight drop I won't notice, but I once heard someone on that forum claiming 60 was the best default setting, but I'm wayyy too lazy to check that. :) I was trying to fix my town and happened across Faith (I renamed all of your sims so in the future it wouldn't be all "this heir falls in love with the heir from [insert legacy here]") and had to figure out who the last name belonged to. No babies yet... however Ella has a child son already!

I'm having some issues with my sims standing around doing nothing since they moved. I decided to age up all the NPC toddlers except the ones in my household and it's still happening. No lag, just them not doing ANYTHING. They'll pick up toddlers and walk around but not carry out any actions except for idles. Having four toddlers is kind of a nuisance but I don't want to mess up their ages. :/

My favorite town is Riverview. I just love looking at it. So peaceful. You might have to add spawners from the expansion packs if you care about that stuff. Also watch out for some of the ugly residents, who might breed and take over your town, haha. But honestly that goes for every town. I tend to just edit the really freak-show people. *shrug*

I also love Barnacle Bay, if you can get over its pay-for status. I grew up in a coastal area, so it feels very homey to me.

I hate Twinbrook. Looking at it depresses me.

I hate Sunset Valley, because it's unpolished and tends to look pretty crappy compared to later towns.

Bridgeport... ooh... it looks so fantastic. But every time I play it, horrible glitches happened. So I've sworn myself away from it. Also not the best place for legacies, because there's not much space for a breeding populace. You'd have to go in and edit all of the apartments to be family-capable.

I have Hidden Springs and looked around, though haven't played in it really. I really like the look of it. I think my next legacy will be set there.

Other people use custom towns... ...I've heard great things about Riverblossom Hills.

I do love the detail they put into Twinbrook. Someone really worked hard on it. But it's too gritty and real-life for me to want to put my sims there.

I loved Riverblossom Hills, it was beautiful and had great premade families. The drawback was a lot of the houses were built specifically for their residents. Which is great until they die off, and you're left with a bunch of one bedroom houses no one will move into. I ended up spending a lot of time redoing houses after gen 1 died off. But despite the extra work, I was able to play the town for 10 generations pretty happily.

Brooklyn Heights is also lovely, but it has some of the same issues as Bridgeport. I'm only on gen 3 and I'm already having issues of not enough housing. The neighborhood has a lot of starter homes (one or two bedrooms) that can't accommodate most families, so I'm having to redo them all, too. And there are a lot of high rises that aren't finished (they're nothing but the shell). The idea there was to leave room for things needed in future EPs, but right now it's just wasted space. I haven't felt like actually building apartments in those high rises. I could bulldoze and replace with ones in the bin, but there are lot size issues, and also the shells are integrated into the landscape, which the binned lots aren't. The only empty lot spaces I have left are 50x50 size, and I haven't felt like building any mansions lately, either. (Well, I will drop the house I built for Colleen in one of those spaces sooner or later, lol)
So, I'm not recommending it for legacies, personally. I'm currently worried that I will have to move.
Also, there are routing issues in a couple of areas. There are a couple of spots on a steep hill where Sims get stuck, I have to go there every other day and reset a bunch of them.

I had a similar problem with Rio's first apartment. It was a single, just one room with bed, kitchen and living area, and a bathroom. He moved out immediately and no one would move in. I eventually edited it to create a separate bedroom, and after that Sims would use it.
I thought SP only required the right number of bed slots, but maybe it requires separate bedrooms? Really, though, I have no clue.

I think I'll love Apaloosa.. I have seen so many wonderful screenshots and I'm really impatient.. I love the fact that my sims will be able to meet wild horses, deers or raccons in their neighborood.. So I'm waiting impatiently S3 Pets to be released in order to start a new random legacy (in France we have to wait until thursday :wtf: )

That is the main issue with custom neighborood..there are always something missing, or something which doesn't work well.. Creators also use cheats to build houses or community lots in their neighborood, and some of these cheats are not good for the game (constrainfloor, testingcheats...). They can cause issue when you start playing the neighborood.. And one of the main issues is also that creators don't take count of computer memories. So they tend to build things which are too huge and not suitable with computer RAMS.. Even if some of them are really great, I don't use custom neighboroods anymore. And I think we have choices now with EA neighboroods (Sunset, Riverview, Barnacle, Hidden Springs, Twinbrook, Bridgeport, and next Apaloosa Plains...)

The problem I have with EA neighborhoods is you have to do so much work to add EP lots. They make each neighborhood for the base game only (or if the town comes with an ep, for base game + that one ep only). So you need to find spots for bars and clubs and other ep venues. And their houses are even worse than CC town houses in terms of having to redo them to be suitable for families to move in. EA is the king of useless one bedroom mansions.
Custom neighborhoods tend to include lots from every EP, so there is less work setting it up.
The custom neighborhoods I've used haven't used CFE on any houses, luckily for me.

Yeah, I can't stand EA worlds due to the lack of EP lots. I have to add them myself, and they never mesh architectually. And the architecture itself is ugly and nonsensical 70% of the time, as well as slightly difficult to play. BUT they tend to have less routing issues and the houses are easier to alter. Plus, they come with fully populated 3 dimensional characters, which is rare with custom worlds. Overall, I feel the best world, CC or not, is Riverblossom Hills by Kiwitea, but unfortunately it never worked for me, as it had issues with story progresson :cry:
And Melissa, I don't have those issues with Anne Arbor, thank god, due to having a rather solid suburbia on the other side of the hills. The main problem is that its difficult to get from one side of the town to another.

I won't be buying pets until i have my new laptop. I'm trying to save up at the moment, hopefully i will get one just after xmas. My mum is giving me £200 towards it for xmas, i have just over £100 atm and get £50 a month so if i add all that together it will be £400 plus anything else i get for xmas

I never finished legacies in TS2, mostly because you had to play the families of spares in rotation if you wanted their ages to keep up. I'm doing much better with the random legacies, I've done two through gen 10 and I'm on my third.

I've been test playing Neverglade so far for my prologue and the only problem I've seen so far is that many of the really beautiful (and cheap) homes are soooo far from the main town. Like, my heir took just under 2 hours to bike to school, and the house s/he lives in is only halfway ascross town. I now send him/her at 6 in order to be to school on time...

I love Anne Arbor, but I'm experiencing some odd glitches, which I guess are routing related. The non-active Sims have a tendency to walk everywhere, instead of spawning a bicycle or car. And as Anne Arbor is huge, it can take them all day to get anywhere. Whenever I look at the main road that leads from suburbia to downtown, there are always a ton of them just walking along the side of the road. It's quite peculiar. Also, I keep having to reset Sims and such, although I'm pretty sure I haven't found everyone whose stuck. I try to do a reset everything once in a while, but I tend to forget.

I think Barnacle Bay is beautiful. Before I started this challenge, I completely remodeled it to my liking. I bulldozed every single house and community lot and reworked the layout to flow better. It bothered me that the library and museum were stuck out in the "suburbs". Also, I added late night and ambitions lots, and placed my favorite houses (the ones with lots of beds, lol). I made an "urban" district near downtown, a "working" district on the other side of downtown (starter homes, etc.), and a more affluent "suburban" district around that little beach on the other side of the island. And in those random middle-of-nowhere lots I added the "rural" houses. I may move my family there some day, if Anne Arbor becomes unplayable.

That's something I quite like about Hidden Springs, although it only has the base game lot types, there are community lots which appear to have been designed to be tweaked into EP lots which doesn't take nearly so much effort as creating new EP lots from scratch.

Jo isn't supposed to even notice Joshua's grades let alone care about them but as soon as his grades went to a D, she autonomously refused to go to work until she'd scolded him for it & put him in time-out! Which meant that she was late to work as well <grr>

I downloaded the 40x40 version on here and switched one of the empty residential lots to community for it.

I've turned the ski lodge into a luxurious exclusive lounge and altered various other lots to a greater or lesser degree, although I did have to add some lots completely

I've heard Hidden Springs have little islands off the coasts that are unfortunatelt routable, which means NPCs will spawn on them and get stuck. So keep your eyes out for that, you may need to reset stuck Sims fairly often.

I once had an NPC spawn in the park in Sunset Valley in a small area that was completely enclosed with a fence and hedge. She couldn't get out. She stood there for days, stomping her feet because she was trapped, peeing herself and complaining of exhaustion and hunger. I waited to see how long it would take for her to die, but she didn't die even after a week.
Funny thing was, she was my Sim's boss, and I was using one of the suck up to boss type work tones, and my Sim's rel score with her improved every day, as though the boss was actually at work. While I'm watching her pee herself in the park.

So, I'm thinking about moving my legacy family to Barnacle Bay now. I went and looked at it again, and I love that world. I just don't know how I could work it into the story. I need to decide though, because once I move into the house Melissa built I'm not going to want to move again. And I was planning on moving them the next time I boot up my game.

You know, I'd typically agree, but it's the fact that it's basically a repeat of Rhiannon's gen that makes me sad. xD

At the same time I have to remember that when you grow up with a crappy floozy of a parent, there's always a chance that you're going to BECOME them, in a way, if you've never seen any healthy relationships to guide you when you're growing up. So I suppose it could be a way to see how things like that can affect someone psychologically.

...and since the career roll is a Rock Star, it's just too easy to make the individual promiscuous anyway. xD I suppose I'll go with it and see if I can make it interesting.

And mods of course always have to be updated with every patch/ep. So, Emma, if you don't patch eventually, you'll end up not being able to use new mods & CC.
But personally, I'm not patching until stuff is updated,and I'm not installing Pets right away, not until Twallan's mods are updated at the least.

Twallan said that the changes with the new EP were extensive but minor, so updates would come very quickly.

The things that is really annoying is that I've to say "goodbye" to all my CC. the new format for EA objects doesn't allow us to use CC items anymore. I had created lots with tons of cc from many sites in order to install them in Apaloosa.. And now, I don't know if they will be updated before the EP released (thursday in france).. :faceslap:

Cece, you use Twallan's woohooer? That mod doesn't allow Sims to make out/woohoo with Sims opposite their sexual preference. You can use master controller to change their sexual preference so they can nake out.

Hysterical Paroxysm says that Delphy is working on something that might allow CC creators to fix all their old objects in batches, so there is hope that most CC will be fixed sooner or later. At least stuff by active creators.

ETA: So I was just catching up on patch news and it seems the CC fix will be more involved than previously hoped, so it might be some time before CC creators can fix the old, broken CC.

So, for anyone stuck in a Living Green generation (as I currently am) if after you install Pets/patch, if you have to sell off broken CC, you can break the buy mode restrictions to replace anything that the EP/patch broke.

Yeah, it does suck. But the change in slot resources was to pet enable things, so it's not like some random breakage on EA's part.
I won't patch until I istall Pets, and I'm not in a huge hurry to install that, either. Not until Twallan's mods are fully updated at least.

What modders have said about deco CC like statues is they are *mostly* unaffected since Sims don't use the slots on them, but there *might* be issues if the Sims attempt to view them.

The limited edition is for both pre orders and release day sales. I would guess that shops that are carrying the limited edition will continue to sell them until they run out.
My pre-ordered copy has shipped and should be here tomorrow, but I know I won't install before the weekend.

With a lot more happening visually, your graphics card is going to work harder. If the drivers aren't up to date, then it won't be able to fully render the objects/pets/sims in your game. I would suggest going to the website of your card's manufacturer and checking to see if the driver is the same version as the one you currently run. If it changed between the last EP/SP and Pets then that just might be your problem. :)

Emma, I'm not a computer expert by any means, but I don't know if you can upgrade an integrated graphics card. If it's even possible, I *think* you'd have to replace the whole motherboard as well. Also, the part you get has to be the right size to fit in your laptop case, and you'll need to look into the power supply as well. A higher end graphics card will require more power. It may be better to save your money now and buy a nicer machine down the road. It's just something to think about.

Whatever you decide, just make sure you do your research first. Good luck! :)

Well, that should definitely make upgrading easier. You may not need to buy a whole new computer. I just think you should consider all your options before you sink any serious money into upgrades. Sometimes older computers aren't always worth it. If I were in your position, I would post here on the MTS help page asking for advice. They can give you far better advice than I can.

Integrated graphics cards are almost always in laptops, not in desktops. That's where the confusion came from. Your other problem is RAM, as you only have 1 gigabyte, where my game uses 2+ most often. Upgrading should be quick and painless. Desktops are fun and easy to take apart

I guess it depends on what you mean by mythical creature...but I've always been partial trickster gods & spirits. Coyote, a Native American trickster, is one of my favorites.
Also, dragons! I'm more partial to Asian dragons (wiser, less violent than the European dragon).

I love upgrading my computer myself, if you know what you're doing and are confident it's so much cheaper than getting a new one. I'm even happy to upgrade my laptop (have recently replaced the DVD drive after the existing one broke and am investigating the possibility of upgrading the processor at some point. I'm actually planning on building my own desktop from scratch at some point (not yet as I only need one computer and while I live the other end of the country from my boyfriend I need a laptop for portability)

I guess my favorite "mythical creatures" are elves. They tend to have magic, protect the environment, be awesome stuck up, and have effortless grace and such.

(In another RPG one of my many elf characters is an angry, Dr. House-like cripple. A running joke is that he makes crutches look graceful.)

Beauty is optional for them, but adorableness almost never is. Don't forget the pointy ears. Bonus points if the ears move, like a cat's or something, and better portray the elf's expression.

If I could have any superpower, it would be telepathy. Non-passive telepathy (where the telepath has to focus a little bit to read minds; they don't just walk around and hear others' thoughts without being able to turn the sense off; that would be a nightmare). I think a lot of my social anxiety would evaporate, if I could understand what people wanted me to do.

It's still in testing (obviously), but I used it for quite a few CC furniture and it has worked so far. The only exception being one bed that I kept getting an error message for. *shrug* Didn't really use it anyway.

I'm excited to actually get started playing around in Pets, but I'm so afraid of messing something up in my legacy that I haven't yet. Harper best not be glitchin' on me, I say!

Mwa-ha-ha, his evil plan is to infiltrate all your legacies with his clone army.
He is wearing a Store hair from the new Men's bohemian set, everything else is from the game or EP.
I forgot to change his birth name when I cloned him in CAS, so you'll find his actual name is Siddhartha Landgraab. While I thought that was hilarious on some levels (for anyone who doesn't know, Siddhartha is the Buddha's name), I decided to change his name to Harris before including him as a character in my story. Because it just seemed unlikely that Landgraabs who hadn't become Buddhists would name their son Siddhartha.
So, you'll probably want to change that if you use him in game. Or not, it's up to you, lol.

I used the granthes fix and it worked great. I haven't heard anything negative about the TSR one yet though.
And Twallan has updated all of his mods except for Dresser, I believe. I have all of them right now (well Woohooer, MC, SP, and Porter anyhow) and they all work.

My news: I've got Pets installed and messed around in vanilla Appaloosa Plains for awhile. (playing the crazy cat lady; her cats are little monsters, lol.I spent the whole time scolding each one of them in turn for scratching shit up)
Now I'm DLing updated mods and stuff.
The only stuff I use that hasn't been updated by the creators are shelving things and other objects that use custom slots, so I'm a little concerned that granthe's updater thing won't fix them. But I'll try.
