View Full Version : Downloads now available to guests, and return of 'My Downloads'

Hi All,

Today I have re-enabled the ability for Guests to download files, as well as re-introducing a feature long time members here will recognise - My Downloads. Accessible from the User Links dropdown (next to your name in the top right), this page lists everything you have downloaded from the site, and shows if those items have been updated, in addition to whether or not you have thanked the item in question.

Feedback and comments are appreciated :)

That's great! Especially 'My Downloads' list, cause if you were making a project, and suddenly your game breaks, and you lose al your cc, you can come here and see what you have downloaded :)
Also, it's very nice for guests to be able to download from MTS ;)

Sounds like more downloads and thanks for all--what's not to love about that? Thank you for all of the improvements to the site lately. :) The caution-yellow banner on the thanks percentages could be a more friendly color, though. I thought I did something wrong when I first saw it.

Ok I'll be the first newb, where is this My Downloads?
The only user tools menu I know of are under the drop down menu next to my login name, User Links - User Tools.

I must be looking in the wrong place as usual. :/

That's a fantastic idea, no more searching for CC to redownload! Plus more convenience in not having to remember my password to download stuff!

Wow, I don't even remember downloading some of these things. But it is nice to be able to find them again.

Just curious...is the limit the last 75 threads? Or is that just how many the system has records for my downloads?

I feel really bad that I've only thanked 4% of my 316 downloads 0.0

I usually only thank a download after I've tested it in game, so the My Downloads feature had been a useful reminder back in the day. Now that you've built that function in, it is an awesome head bop reminder. Thanks, Delphy, for making it easier for me to say thank you.

Fantastic addition! - Helps member keep track of their downloads and reminds them to say thanks if they overlooked someone. Love it! I try to always leave a comment or hit the thank you button when downloading. I may occassionally miss an opportunity to show my appreciation of the modder's creation (like in the midst of a download feeding frenzy 1 or 2 could slip by) so having the download list indicate when that happens is really nice. I'm very consious of thanking people for sharing their work (I think it piggish not to) so when I saw my list I was shocked at how many were marked as not thanked. I know I've left thanks on many of these downloads marked as unthanked and in some instances even left comments --so I'm wondering why they are showing up as not thanked? If you re-downlaod something without thanking again will that indicate the download as not thanked? IF the item is updated but you downloaded the original will that show up as being not thanked? For example -- I left a comment for Whiterider's hat hider --(great mod BTW!) http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=407349&c=1&ht=0&page=2&pp=25 but since then Whiterider updated the mod. My list is showing this as being not thanked even though I did say thanks.

*double bop Robodl95 on the head*

I only missed thanking 5% of my downloads and I promptly took care of that! :)

There was only one I swear I didn't DL but who knows, I could have.

Now all I need is one of those handy - click on the word and it brings up spelling options - for those times my brain suddenly goes totally blank!

This is sooo much better than searching the site for updates!!! :gjob:

Went from 97% thanked to 100% thanked :D

It would be nice if you could thank the download from that page, rather then having to load each thread, though.

Oh, okay that explains some of what I'm seeing. But I also got a not thanked on http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=425334&c=1 which was a recent upload that I left a comment on when I downloaded.

Is there a way to delete a download from our list? Helper Monkey is there as unmarked (I'm certain I thanked on the thread). That page no longer exists so I can't rectrify this and it'll drive me nuts.

Maybe I'm blind, but under User Links, I see My Favourites in the Download category, but no My Downloads. Is it accessible some other way?

I have greatly missed this feature. Way back when it was available I didn't download much at all, but I've been wishing for its return for several years now. Too bad it only goes back to April, though, since I recently reinstalled Sims 2 and am now trying to track down all my downloads without having to pull out and dig through my backups.

EDIT: Just had a hunch, tested it, and it proved right. The reason I can't see My Downloads is because it's not there in Moddeth Thine Sims. A temporary switchover gets me the link, though, so I can explore to my heart's content. 'Twould be nice if it gets fixed for Moddeth though.

Yes, I found it when I switched the style I was using. But it's not there when I'm using Moddeth Thine Sims.

Thanks Delphy I like this feature, maybe I need to go on a downloads diet, for it truly show me that I am very "addicted" to what MTS have to offer it's members. I am also proud to say yes I have always thank the creators for their work. :)

Thanks Delphy! I try to thank all the creators because I know how much work is involved in making stuff. I saw that I had missed one - probably due to me changing off the page before it had completed. I appreciate being able to see these stats. :0)

Good thing this doesn't go back too many years or I'd be still looking through all the pages. :jest:

I am totally happy about the return of 'My Downloads'! And showing updates is like icing on the cake.

:bunny: Also, I think it will be good for creators and the site to have downloads available to guests. Soooo much more traffic.

Thanks Delphy!!

Aww, I was checking to see how many I had forgot to thank, thanked them.. and noticed one download that I can't do anything with. One of the install helpers. Now I'm stuck on 99 % :(
Well.. at least now someone will now I've downloaded it and that it's a nice program :)

Yay! Thanks for re-enabling the My Downloads; been a long time since that's been around! Having quit TS2 ~2 years back & gotten a new PC in the meantime, I lost most of my old downloads and so am slowly rebuilding my DL folder from the ground up (just can't stay away lol, but dear god, no 15GB again x__x; *shudder*). This will certainly help make things easier for my oldfart brain to keep organized! Plus, to make it even better, now we even can see if we've got updates to do? Y'all are awesome. Thanks so much! :D

(:turtle: Quick question, though -- how do you access the page when the navbar links at the top don't work? I've tried checking the site archive/map & checked my profile's options > edit panel already & can't seem to find My Downloads directly; perhaps I'm just old/blind :turtle: and missed it somewhere? x3)

What about threads deleted by their creators? (There's one that says I didn't thank, but clicking on it says it's been deleted. :|) Should they be allowed to show up in the list?

I have the same issue as MSB... I have Lee's Medieval Door Centred on 2 Tiles on my list, yet I can't do anything with it. So I'm stuck at %99. :/

Thank you kindly for the quick reply & link; for whatever reason my dingdong brain didn't think of that ^^;

As for the links not working, hell if I know. None of them work at all for me; just to get into this thread here took me about an hour and a half of manual url-guessing/playing link-tag; took me about two hours to find/get to the forums last night to look around for anyone else with the problem (only one I could find had their problem miraculously fix itself when they defragged. :/).

I'm not sure it's a Java issue, seeing as my Java and everything else on this pc is up-to-date & functioning. I've cleared my cache, rebooted, deleted cookies, logged in and logged off and relogged in, closed/removed/reinstalled/restarted NoScript/ABP, everything that the only [archived] thread (Dec '09?) suggested; thus far no dice whatsoever. Ultimately, the best I can conclude is just that technology hates me lol (& I've pretty much resigned myself to the fact it'll never work for me like it should). XD;;

Thanks for wanting to thank Rik :)

Sadly, I got a report that that door is causing game crashes - the same way windows do - so I "tagged" it for fixing.

I did this so people would not download it and break their game. If this is NOT causing a game crash I would like to know so I can untag it - and not have to bother fixing it.

Yours lazily, Leefish :turtle:

Nice, really nice! Especially this:

and shows if those items have been updated, in addition to whether or not you have thanked the item in question.
When I update my uploads I always worry that those who've downloaded them won't be aware of it, so this will hopefully help, if that's the case.
And also, at the feature showing if you've thanked your downloads =. Apparently I've only thanked 38% of mine... Well, I'm off to increase that number to 100 now.

Is there a way to remove entry in My Downloads? Thank you. I like this feature very much. In the past, I used to use subscribed threads to keep my downloaded stuff stay updated. Now I can use this. Thanks again.

Delphy
19th Jan 2011, 08:00 AM
anak_ponti: No, there is no way to remove an entry, yet. It's meant to be a history of everything you download. If more people want a delete or clear history option, I could probably add one.

Not to be naggy, but is the issue with the link being nonexistent in Moddeth Thine Sims going to be fixed? It's really annoying to have to switch styles (or remember the link...I keep having to look it up) just to get to My Downloads.

I noticed something: When I click on "Last Modified" I expect that my downloads are sorted by Update time. It does put them in a new order, but it's not chronological. First entry ist updated on Sep 22, 2010, the second one on Oct 30, 2009, the third entry on Oct 27, 2010.

It would be great if my downloads could be sorted by update time, so I can easily see if anything has beed updated.

Delphy
26th Jan 2011, 08:04 PM
Killc*a: Thanks for the heads up. It worked fine on my page but I think that's becuase of the date of the downloads I had gotten. Turned out it was sorting in standard text sort, becuase it couldn't parse the dates properly.

Anyway thats now fixed, and I've added another column that marks whether or not you have update for a download after it's, well, been updated.

I'm not sure about a clear history option, but an option to remove certain downloads from the list would be awesome. I know on my DL list, I've got some decorative washers and dryers from last April that I know I will never redownload now that I've got Ambitions. It would also be good for those who DL one version of a mod from one person and then download a similar one from another person when the next patch hits and the original modder doesn't update.

He hee, this is good.
I hope the guests are happy. Can they still post things like comments? Because I always see a 'guest' posted something but it's always been deleted. Maybe it's just slow me... -_-

bbee99: Guests have never been allowed to post. The only one you would see would be ancient threads from like 2005.

It's also handy when my husband downloads using my account without telling me. (He has a good reason. When he's downloading and I'm around, I look over his shoulder and say "I like that! Can we get it" "AND that?" "Oh, and THAT!" until he sends me away after the one thing he wanted to get has been forgotten.) But the first 3 time he clicked thanks buttons it crashed the computer (back when he first joined) so he never clicks them anymore, even though he's been told that they have been fixed for a long time now. So I've got a lot of clicking to do. At least now I know where this stuff came from!

(Amazingly enough, even though I never downloaded anything, just thanked things that looked cool, I had managed to thank 12% of my husband's downloads)

I would like to say thank you to all the creaters I have downloaded their creations/ mods & hacks over the years.I have not thanked them when downloading as I tend to download a lot in one go. Now that you can check how many things you have downloaded I would imagine that mine are quite a lot,as I do not have the confidence to mod myself but love other peoples creations so a Big Thanks Again
