View Full Version : Sims 3 shuts down - and I have tried EVERYTHING to fix the problem.

I'm so annoyed right now.
As I've experienced thousands of times with both Sims 2 and now Sims 3, the game abruptly close when I'm playing.
It loads just fine and I get into the family I last played in. I then move on to another family - and BAM - "Sims 3 has stopped working", as my computer notifies me.
There is no problem when loading another family, but when I want to move down to base level in the house, it just shuts down, without further explanation than the above.
I've tried everything: Uninstalled custom content, installing it again, uninstalled all games and then installing them again, gotten rid of corrupted files with Sims3Dashboard (downloaded from this site), cleaned for files in DCBackup, cleared cache and whatnot.
I've read numerous guides about the problem here on MTS, but nothing works.
I feel that I have tried everything mentioned on various sites about the problem and I'm close to just quitting the game for good.
This is certainly not a new problem and I just can figure why it keeps happening for so many people, including me. Corrupted files could be the problem, but I have checked everything, all files, spent so much time on uninstalling and installing, cleaning up and so on - and it still happens.

If anyone has some new suggestions to what could help with this annoying problem, I would really appreciate it :-)
My game is updated and my computer has the specs for playing the game. So that can't be the problem.
I run Windows 7.

is it the first time this happens to you?

because if its not you will need to check your computer system requirements

It's not clear from your post whether this happens to all families, or just one - or whether it happens in all towns/saves, or just one.

Borhan: It's not the first time, no - but it has been a long time since it last happened and back then, I am pretty sure that some bad content was the issue. Now that I have gone through anything, I simply can't pinpoint what seems to be the issue :/
My computer has the specs for playing Sims 3, as mentioned above.

Whiterider: So far, it doesn't happen when the game loads and goes into the first family that I last played in. It happens when I go to one specific other family., I haven't tried all the other families yet, because it crashes a few minutes after I enter the second family. :/

Try other families, and other towns - we need to figure out if this is a problem with your game, or with that specific family. :)

Whiterider: Will do in a minute and then report back :-)
I have a strange feeling that there is a problem with the family/lot, but that doesn't make sense, since the lot and the house isn't custom content. It's just a base house from the game :)

I succesfully played the game yesterday, when I loaded Bridgeport instead of Sunset Vally, where the family, that cause the crashes, is in.
So it seems that the problem is related to the family.
Maybe it will help to move the family out? Either way, it is a strange bug.

Some EA lots are weird. (Try putting a different house on the Wolfe lot, for example.) If it works with all other families, and all other lots, you can try moving the family and see what happens. Back up the current game just in case you make things worse.

I had a similar experience, with an EA household in Twinbrook. I killed them off, and didn't bothered with them again. Luckily the problem wasn't with one of my families.
