Can the game clock be slowed down?

Can the game clock be slowed down so that a day last longer and the sims can accomplish more work? I would guess this would be a mod. I'm new to Sims 3 and frustrated by just beginning to get a chore done and it's time for bed. I have the base game and ambitions.

Thank you. I have the wrong patch level, but there is some indication that it may still run on Base/Ambitions. I'll give it a try now before I have to much invested in the game.
