Can anyone tell me what to do to get it working?

Use a released operating system?

Are you sure your drive will actually run CDs? Because it might not be software issue at all. A drive has moving parts, and they wear out.

We've seen multiple people who have problems with Sims 2 on Windows 8. In fact, I've never seen anyone who said that it will actually work on Windows 8.

That said, it wouldn't hurt to give us any error messages and to tell us exactly how far the installation gets before it fails.

One more thing: the purpose of a beta is to find problems. If you have problems with Windows 8, you should be reporting them to Microsoft. That's your responsibility when participating in a beta.

1: I got this from Microsoft. 2: Where you install it to. 3: Okay, thanks for that but where do I do that since in gives up to error messages!

From the Windows 8 site: The best way to provide feedback is to participate in the Windows 8 Release Preview forum. On this dedicated forum, you'll find thousands of other Windows enthusiasts who are testing our product, posting their experiences, and participating in the Windows 8 Release Preview online community. In particular, if you think you've encountered a problem that you'd like to have addressed in future releases of Windows 8, post a “Bug Report” about your issue on the Windows 8 Release Preview forum. In your post, describe what you encountered, any text or messages that were displayed, and other information that would help us reproduce your issue in our own testing environments. We're monitoring the Windows 8 Release Preview forum and might ask you to post additional information to help us improve the experience. http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=238545

So you would post on their forum with a Bug Report, saying that you are trying to install The Sims 2; you insert the disc in the drive and begin the installation; it gets to the point where_____ (You choose where to install it to? If I'm misunderstanding you, fill in the blank with details about where it stops working) and then ______ (Fill in the blank with details about how the installation stops. Crash to desktop; BSOD, locks up and needs to be exited with the task manager, etc.) and you can't find any error reports.

(That information that I was suggesting for the bug report is also what Mootilda was asking for here.)

It got up to where you install it to and went no more.

What path did it use as the default? Did you accept the default or specify your own path?

Out of curiosity, have you tried making a shortcut to the setup file on the disc and trying compatibility mode for Windows 7,Vista, or XP?

I have tried that

I believe that your best option is to tell Microsoft that there's a problem. There's really nothing that we can do to help you.
