View Full Version : Does a teen with failing grades get expelled?

So, I was playing a challenge(broken for those interested) and the teenager was failing school. Poor thing, he was working a job and taking care of younger siblings and trying to go to school when there was only one bed on the lot.

Anyway, so he starts failing school. When he reached "F" the schoolbus stopped picking him up. His siblings could go to school, and I even tried clicking the bus to manually send him to school. What's more, his job changed from teen level to adult level. Very odd.

I'll be doing more searching on this, but I couldn't find anything at first look and thought I'd ask. :)

There's no expulsion, no. They simply go to school or they don't.

Something's off in your game if the bus isn't showing up, and the teen's job should not have shifted to the adult job track.

What should happen is that the bus still shows, whether the teen gets on it or not, and I think the teen should get fired once his/her grade drops to F. (I know for certain they can't get a job with an F, but am not 100% sure what happens if they already have a job. It definitely should not become an adult job, though. That much I'm confident of.)

Is there anything else weird happening in your game? Have you done any neighborhood-corrupting things? http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Avoiding_Hood_Corruption

You may need to go through the Game Problem FAQ, at some point.

Maybe a dumb question, but are you sure he didn't age into adult?

They do not get expelled; they get fired. My first attempt to run the Newsons, Gavin had a job and was fired when he hit the "F" grade. The bus kept coming for him and Ginger (and Gallagher and Gabriella, who'd grown up by them) long after Ginger stopped trying to keep up with her homework at all.

I have no idea what happens to a teen job when you age to adult, as the only two sims I haven't sent to college had no teen jobs.

They usually get promoted.

The fact that he can't get on the bus and has an adult job makes me really think he is now an adult. That's the simplest explanation, of course there could be as pointed out incompatable CC, or a hack you got unknowingly (if you downloaded a lot on the exchange) or a bug.

I know there are hacks that will do that to a teen. If you picked up Inteen, he could have gotten old enough for Inteen to have had him finish school. And it does piggyback.

I'm probably going to have to go back up through my CC. It seems that when my teens get close to aging up(6 days off is the furthest I've seen). Whether the sim is failing or not, the bus continues to come for whatever children are present and teens that aren't close to aging up, when the teen gets back from their teen job that day they are promoted to the adult version of the job.

This is a fresh install, as I just got a new computer, but I did migrate all my downloads over to my new computer, so I'm sure there is something in there which is conflicting. :P I'll just have to decide if it's worth it or not. LOL.

Edit: I just reread your post Ghost and I think inteen might be it. I was trying to fix a bug and had to redownload inteen so it's possible that it just aged them up early, since the game treats them as adults. I'm not sure how much I care about it though. They get a head start on their adult lives lol.

Are they set as 'independent teen' I'm not exactly sure what that is, only I've seen that option on the sim blender on the age up menu.

I suppose they may already be set as independent teens. I didn't do it intentionally, but I kind of find it interesting that they can be independent teens. I took the opportunity to move those two out so that there is more space in the household. I'll probably need to tinker with some of the inteen settings as well to see if I can fix it. :)

If you have InTeen, you will need the 'No Adult Teens' flavourpak to stop the game treating them as adults for the last few days of their teen lifespan.

Thank you sushi! I'll get that now.
