Picked Upload! This is a picked upload! It showcases some of the best talent and creativity available on MTS and in the community.

ConvertiWall Version 1.2:

The ConvertiWall program will change all walls, within a specified area on a lot, from one type of wall (Wall ID) to another.

It can be used to create "foundation roofs", which will reduce the price of modern homes with interesting roof lines. I used an earlier version of this program to keep the price of several of my Fledgling Flat starter lots under $20,000. See the following link for more details:
http://www.modthesims2.com/download.php?t=294652

It can also be used to change brick foundation walls to normal walls, to allow windows and doors to be placed into "daylight" basement walls.

As well, it can be used to change a custom wall, such as Numenor's "Unleveled wall", to a standard TS2 wall. This is helpful for downloaders who do not want to install custom walls when downloading lots. It is also helpful for lot creators who want the convenience of custom walls while building, but do not want to require the end user to install custom walls. For more information about custom walls, see the "Custom Walls Repository & Index":
http://www.modthesims2.com/download.php?t=59793
and the Scriptorium:
http://www.modthesims2.com/download.php?t=192613

Version 1.2 adds the ability to modify lots in neighborhoods with non-standard prefixes.

Installation:
To install, just download ConvertiWall.zip and unzip it. Run the EXE from the unzipped location.

This is "alpha" software and is still in development; it is not guaranteed to work and may corrupt your neighborhoods. Be sure to backup your game before using this tool.

I have included the source code for version 1.2 in ConvertiWallSource.zip. There is no need to download this file unless you are a C# programmer who wishes to look at or modify the code.

I left the previous version 1.1 (PreviousConvertiWall.zip) available, in case there are any unforseen problems. There is no need to download this file.

Requirements:
- The program uses some DLLs from SimPE; they are included in the zip file.
- ConvertiWall is released under the GNU General Public License.
- You need the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 to run ConvertiWall:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down...s.aspx?id=20137

Running under OS/X:
Please read this thread for information about running ConvertiWall under OS/X:
http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=366580

Instructions:

1) Backup your game files.

2) Run ConvertiWall.EXE and select the neighborhood and lot, or choose a lot from the LotCatalog. If your neighborhood is not in the standard location, use the Browse button to select the neighborhood. See the first comment by Numenor for instructions on accessing AnyGameStarter neighborhoods.

3) Choose the type of wall that you want to convert. All standard Maxis walls are listed. Any custom walls used on your lot will appear at the end of the list.

4) Choose the new type of wall to convert to. If you don't see the Wall ID that you want, you can type in the Wall ID as a number.

5) Choose the range of walls that you want changed. Note that level -1 is the underground level used by the pool; level 0 is the ground.

6) Click on the Finish button.

Known Issues:
A) ConvertiWall has been tested with all EPs and SPs up to and including Mansion and Garden Stuff. It may not work with later EPs and SPs.

B) ConvertiWall just changes the Wall ID of the specified walls; this does not mean that the game will accept the new Wall ID.

The following conversions are known to work:
1: Maxis normal walls to 23: Maxis foundation walls
23: Maxis foundation walls to 1: Maxis normal walls
90: Numenor Unleveled wall to 1: Maxis normal walls
90: Numenor Unleveled wall to 23: Maxis foundation walls

Other conversions may crash the game, depending upon how different the original and new walls are. If you have chosen a conversion which does not work, restore from backup.

If you find other conversions which work, please report them on this thread.

C) ConvertiWall will not update anything on the lot except for the Wall IDs. This means that it will not update the price of the lot, the lot imposter, etc. To update these things, you must run the game and make a build change to the lot, then save.

D) ConvertiWall updates only the Wall ID. This means that it does not update the current wall covering. To see the default wall covering, just remove the current one.

E) I recommend the "Versioned backups" option for anyone who uses the "Restart" button. This will ensure that all intermediate backups are kept until you are certain that your changes are working as expected.

What an interesting tool! Thank you Mootilda for another great contribution

If I may, I'd like to give directions for the AnyGameStarter users.
This tool definitely CAN be used with the AnyGameStarter (I know that many lot builder create lots in "clean" AnyGames...). You just have to start the tool and select "Browse..." on the second page; then select the file:
"(Documents)\AnyGameStarter\AnyGameX\EA Games\The Sims 2\Neighborhoods\NNNN\NNNN_Neighborhood.package"
(where "AnyGameX" is one of the installed AnyGames, and "NNNN" is the code of the chosen neighborhood: in a clean mini-game, there is only the neighborhood N009).

Remember to select the NNNN_Neighborhood.package file: you can't just select the folder containing the chosen neighborhood.

I've finally started my Journal. Information only, no questions.

My latest activity: CEP 9.2.0! - AnyGameStarter 2.1.1 (UPD) - Scriptorium v.2.2f - Photo & Plaques hide with walls - Magazine Rack (UPD) - Animated Windows Hack (UPD) - Custom Instrument Hack (UPD) - Drivable Cars Without Nightlife (UPD) - Courtesy Lights (FIX) - Custom Fence-Arches - Painting-TV - Smarter Lights (UPD)

This may be a dumb question but...

Whenever I build lots with basements, I find it hard to actually use the space, because the foundation "walls" are solid and don't come down in viewing.

Could one use this conversion tool to build a basement, then replace the foundation walls with actuall walls, thus allowing you to fully view the downstairs as you would the above-ground portions of the house? If you did replace foundation walls in this manner, would you then still have terrain which wasn't levelled? (As you know, walls require level terrain but foundations adjust to whatever your terrain height might be.)

Anyway, I like that you're always creating things like the Lot Adjustor (which I use a great deal of the time! *grin*), so thank you for all your efforts in improving our games! :-)

writerchick,

yes, that's exactly where the usefulness of this comes in. Current (now outdated) workaround would be (have been) to recreate the foundation from normal walls, so that they go down in walls-down view, but now you can just change the wall type without having to rebuild anything.

This is freaking awesome on a stick! :-D

Now if we could get the same kind of thing working for the Mansion and Gardens sloped roof pieces to make them see-through for interior viewing, but "solid" for exterior appearances...

Okay, a girl can dream, right? ;-)

I know what you mean. I just can't believe that EA provided these roof pieces, then destroyed their ability to be used for "real" attics. After all, the whole reason that Mansard roofs came into being was to provide the largest possible livable attic space:

I don't want Numenor's AnyGame instructions to get overlooked once you get a lot of comments in this thread. Could you please add a small note in the Overview saying there are instructions for using this sweet tool with AnyGame in the first Comments post? Thanks.

Yay for usable basements! :D

This may turn out to be one of the most useful tools yet! I'm impressed. Actually, I think I may be developing a crush. Terms like fangirl, glomping and such are being tempted to be used from an otherwise unglomping, unfannish sort. I think I may just squee!

I must say, at first I wondered how this tool could be useful to me, and now with all these comments new ideas come to mind. But the most awesome was rescuing a corrupted lot that TS2 has refused to load since the early days of the original game (Oct '04) which repeatedly crashed the game during load. For a long time I suspected that the problem with the lot was a structural error generated during the gamesave. After all this years now I'm able to play it again thanks to this program, I don't know how but Convertiwall fixed it. Mootilda, what is the 8-digit hex number at the end of the top list for? It's different for every lot.

I don't know. The location that stores the Wall IDs in the lot package also sometimes contains GUIDs, which I don't understand at this time. In version 1.1, I have removed those GUIDs from the list. The top list now contains *only* the Wall IDs which are actually on your lot.

I've actually been surprised at the response to this program. While I wrote it for my own use, I didn't think that there would be many other people who would be interested. So, I'm glad that people are finding it helpful.
