Finally, a lot/neighborhood that doesn't require Glamour Life, the only stuff/expansion pack i don't have for TS2.

Is there a way to turn this into a vacation destination? This island is wonderful

Youcrazy, I'm currently working on the following versions of the island:
  • Neighborhood (w/ townies)
  • Neighborhood (w/ townies & castaways
  • Neighborhood (w/ townies & natives)
  • Neighborhood (w/ townies & natives & castaways)
  • Neighborhood (w/ natives & castaways)
  • Neighborhood (w/ natives)
  • Vacation Destination - Tropical (w/ townies as tropical locals)

If you can't wait for me to finish this, you can follow this tutorial. The code you need to use in step 6 is:
Code:
changeNeighborhoodType tropics
However, you'd also want to create some locals who will teach your Sims greetings and dances before you turn a neighborhood into a vacation destination; for creating those, refer to this guide.

A side note: the tropics version is going to end up having roads. After all, if the nation of SimCity is able to fly to the island, then the place is not inhabited only by the tribesmen without the knowledge of paving roads, right? (Besides that, the vacation shuttles and a few edits I'll be doing to certain lots, such as creating a museum out of the Temple or building five-star resorts on the beach lots fit into the theme of having roads after all.)

It's so gorgeous! And the ocean.... *sigh*

A little confusing to find out which lots are empty with deco huts and which have actual houses on them. Maybe you could put a note in the name of the lot?

Thanks, SciBirg. The vacation destination version I'm working on does allow me to input lot description for residential lots, so those will have notes about whether they're empty or not. Regular neighborhoods and other subhoods don't display lot descriptions for residential lots, unfortunately.

I made a quick list of all empty lots in the neighborhood (empty here means that they're either blank with nothing on them, blank with neighborhood deco huts over them, or with small things on them but no actual house, i.e. terrain paint, trees, a bridge). Hope you find it useful.

Sorry about that. This has been fixed; majority of the files is now included in a bundle (130 MB). There are several files I had to leave out because they require special handling when installing (modular stairs), or they are not allowed to be included with the upload because of the original creators' policies.

I also snuck some new stuff through and added them to the recommended list.

Some feedback:

On the lot of Sunny Residence, the waves float in the air in my game for some reason?

On Barren Banks, sims spawn on the bottom of the ocean (still on the lot) and are unable to move away from there

Thanks for reporting this. I've added this information to the main post, and I'll see what I can do about it. Hopefully the fixed version of the island will be up by the end of July.

This looks very nice but I somehow can't get it to install? Maybe I am a total noob but I just can't seem to fix it.
I did everything according to the steps and I am pretty sure I put everything in the right folder. Could it be I am missing a required terrain? That's the one thing I am unable to find in the downloads. I play the sims 2 ultimate edition I got from Origin, should that info help. I hope someone know how to fix this :<

The file you downloaded from ModTheSims, "FI40.rar," should be unpacked. Try searching for some free programs online, such as WinRAR. Right-click on the file, and select "Extract," and then you should get a plain folder named FI40. Put the folder, not the .rar file, to Documents\The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection\Neighborhoods.

The Castaway Stories CC Bundle should also be unpacked the same way, and its contents should be put in Documents\The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection\Downloads. The same goes for other CC.

Try deleting the Accessory and Groups files from Documents\The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection. They're cache files, and will regenerate upon next game start.

Try deleting the NeighborhoodManager.package file from ...\Neighborhoods folder. That file will also regenerate.

If you still can't resolve the problem, try referring to this guide. That should get you covered.

FI40 - Minor update 2016/07/29
  • Felicity Island (neighborhood view): changed: fixed positions of some of the wave effects
  • Barren Banks, The Outlands: when visiting this community lot, Sims would spawn at the bottom of the ocean (reported by ZenGarden)
Changed: moved the pedestrian portal to a more appropriate location
  • Barren Banks, The Outlands: changed: removed the wave effect placeholder
  • Sunny Hangout, The South Village: changed: fixed elevation of a portion of the lot terrain to reduce steepness
  • Sunny Residence, The South Village: the ocean waves appeared to float in midair, instead of on water (reported by ZenGarden)
Changed: removed the wave effect placeholder
  • Sunny Residence, The South Village: changed: outside lights are now a different model
  • Village Harbor, The South Village: changed: fixed elevation of a portion of the lot terrain to reduce steepness

I just want to say thank you for this. I recently replayed castaway stories and have been obsessed with it and have desperately wanted a version for TS2. I never thought I'd find one though considering how the TS2 fandom has died a bit over the years. I'm not going to download it this second, because I want to purge my downloads folder amongst other things before doing so, but just the thought of how exciting it will be to download has me going crazy

This is me as well!!

I've adored Castaway Stories for almost a decade now, I believe I first bought it in 2008, maybe 2010? I can't remember, only that it took forever to find & I had to settle for ebay.

Love, love, love this!!! You have no idea how happy this makes me to see a for-real, legit TS2 version of this island. I'd hoped for a long time that someone would share the vision I had, but lost faith slowly over the years as TS3 moved along, & TS4 even came out.

Yet, here it is, the holy grail of all TS2 prizes, I can't wait to re-play Castaway after getting this hood all set up & ready to play the characters! <'3

I mean, seriously near tears here. Been saying 'oh my God....' mentally for almost 2 - 5 minutes now. ^-^

Thank you so much! You are a very talented, & dedicated builder! <3

Do I really need the default trash cans and mailbox??
As much as I love this neighborhood the rest of my game is current era, I'm just wondering if this is truly required for the lots to function

I'd recommend you made a separate environment (a separate Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2 folder) for Felicity Island gameplay. There's a lot more default replacements included in the bundle, such as accessories.

By making a different The Sims 2 folder in your Documents, you'll be able to keep the contemporary mailboxes and accessories for your contemporary neighborhoods, and separate that from the rustic/tiki Felicity feel. The bad side to that is that you won't be able to switch between 'hoods in-game, but you'll have to rename your folders accordingly.

However, sure, no default replacements are needed for Felicity Island to work; they're just cosmetic. You can have the standard accessories, trashcan and mailbox.
