Picked Upload! This is a picked upload! It showcases some of the best talent and creativity available on MTS and in the community.
Title - Buyable Aspiration & Career Rewards for Lot Builders

Apartment Life & FreeTime Bugfix, January 11, 2010

For users who have Apartment Life or FreeTime as well as Seasons, this bugfix restores proper operation to the "Books First for Learning: A Bookshelf of Education". Please install the contents of either SDpatchSims2_Rewards.zip or SDpatchNoUni_Rewards.zip as described under the Install Instructions tab.

Those who already use my Rewards patch under Seasons without either FreeTime or Apartment Life do not need this upgrade. From now on, new users of my Rewards patch under Seasons without either FT or AL will need to install either SDpatchSeasons_Rewards.zip or SDpatchSeasonsNoUni_Rewards.zip as described under the Install Instructions tab.

Apartment Life Upgrade & Non-University Bugfix, November 10, 2009

1) If you have Apartment Life installed, this upgrade enables the Journalism and Tiki Rewards to be height adjustable using the square brackets, as if they were wall mounted objects. In combination with "boolProp snapObjectsToGrid false", this allows these decorative objects to be "placed" on surfaces that are already occupied, as shown above. The Sim animations associated with these objects will track their height adjusted position properly.

2) If you use one or more EPs but do not have University, please install the contents of SDpatchNoUni_Rewards.zip in your Bins folder as described under the "Install Instructions" tab. This will prevent the presence of invisible and unavailable University objects from showing up in the catalogue. If you had previously installed the standard patch files, please remove SDsims2_AspirationRewards.package and SDsims2_CareerRewards.package from the Bins folder.

Purpose

With the introduction of Bon Voyage, players were no longer able to use custom collections to access non-buyable objects for placement in community or unoccupied residential lots. These files allow lot builders to once again include objects from the entire Sims 2 aspiration and career reward sets in their creations.

This project supports all configurations of The Sims 2 as well as the three Stories games. But note that these files do not add any objects that were not already included in the installed game. For example, players of the base game by itself will not see the career rewards from FreeTime, nor will Sims 2 users suddenly have access to objects unique to Castaway Stories - or vica versa.

Description

Like the previously used collection method, these object patches are made so that lots containing rewards objects may be created and uploaded without the use of any custom content. In other words, once these objects are placed in a lot they will stay there unless you choose to remove them, whether or not you still have these patches installed in the game.

These files do not alter or interfere with normal gameplay: aspiration rewards may still be bought with aspiration points and career rewards may still be earned in the usual way. In order to make the patches completely compatible, the career rewards show up in the catalogue with a price of zero, whereas the aspiration rewards appear to cost an amount in Simoleans equal to their cost in aspiration points. However, this Simolean amount is not actually deducted when the reward is bought: all the rewards are free.

All reward objects are made available in both community and residential lots. The aspiration rewards are categorized as Miscellaneous/Miscellaneous and the career rewards as Hobbies/Miscellaneous. Most objects also appear in logical secondary placements within the catalogue, such as in Decorative, Electronics, or Plumbing. Where appropriate, these objects are tagged for placement on OFB shelves. Lastly, I made the "Look At Score" consistent throughout the sets.

For convenience, collection files are also included in this upload. With the use of the patch files, these objects are now usable from their collections as well as from the object catalogue, even in the case of Bon Voyage and later EPs.

Notes for Castaway Stories Only

While the aspiration reward portion of the project works identically to that for The Sims 2, I was unable to configure the three Castaway Stories career rewards as buyable objects without disturbing their normal function. Therefore the career rewards included in the patch refer to the six normally hidden Seasons objects that were included in the Castaway game release. I have categorized three of them as requiring electricity to make their operation more realistic within the game environment.

The Castaway Stories rewards are located in the Fun section of the catalogue.

Installation of Patch Files

Please DO NOT install the patch files in the Download directory! Please refer to the Install Instructions tab for complete directions.

Terms of Use

Because the patch files must be installed in the Bin folder, I do not recommend including them in uploaded lots. It would be better to simply include the buyable objects placed during the lot creation process, but package the lot without the patch files themselves. Please include a credit and link to this page. It be would nice if you sent me a PM with a link to your uploaded creation, but this is not required.

Don't forget to Thank the creator after downloading! Use the Thanks button located above the screenshots above.
Basic Download and Install Instructions:

1. Download: Click the download link to save the .rar or .zip file(s) to your computer.

2. Extract: Use WinRAR (Windows) or Stuffit (Mac) to extract the .package file(s) from the .rar or .zip file(s).

3. Installation of Patch Files

Please DO NOT install the patch files in the Download directory. Doing so would make them vulnerable to deletion, and possibly cause corruption of your game.

Select the correct archive file to extract, according to which game configuration you have:

The Sims 2 base game by itself, or The Sims Life Stories or The Sims Pet Stories - SDpatchBasegame_Rewards.zip

The Sims Castaway Stories - SDpatchCastaway_Rewards.zip

Seasons, without University and without either FreeTime or Apartment Life - SDpatchSeasonsNoUni_Rewards.zip

Seasons, with University and without either FreeTime or Apartment Life - SDpatchSeasons_Rewards.zip

Any other Sims 2 configuration, but without University - SDpatchNoUni_Rewards.zip

Any other Sims 2 configuration, if University is installed - SDpatchSims2_Rewards.zip

Install the contents of the correct archive selected above into one of the following paths:

The Sims 2 in any configuration -
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\Catalog\Bins

The Sims 2 Deluxe in any configuration -
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Deluxe\Base\TSData\Res\Catalog\Bins

The Sims 2 Double Deluxe in any configuration -
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Double Deluxe\Base\TSData\Res\Catalog\Bins

The Sims Life Stories:
- C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims Life Stories\TSData\Res\Catalog\Bins

The Sims Pet Stories
- C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims Pet Stories\TSData\Res\Catalog\Bins

The Sims Castaway Stories - C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims Castaway Stories\TSData\Res\Catalog\Bins

If you are using Windows 7, install to C:\Program Files (x86) rather than C:\Program Files. The drive letter may also need to be adjusted to suit your actual installation path.

Installation of Collection Files

The installation of the collection files is completely optional. If you are not using Bon Voyage or later EPs you could simply use the collection files to access the rewards, although personally I find it easier to work directly out of the catalogue. If you do wish to use these collections, please do the following:

For The Sims 2 Deluxe, The Sims 2 Double Deluxe or The Sims 2 base game by itself, or with any combination of expansion packs prior to Pets:
Install the contents of SDcollectionPrePets_Rewards.zip in
My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Collections

For The Sims 2 Deluxe, The Sims 2 Double Deluxe or The Sims 2 with Pets or any of the succeeding expansion packs:
Install the contents of SDcollectionPetsAndLater_Rewards.zip in
My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Collections

For The Sims Life Stories:
Install the contents of SDcollectionPrePets_Rewards.zip in
My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims™ Life Stories\Collections

For The Sims Pet Stories:
Install the contents of SDcollectionPetsAndLater_Rewards.zip in
My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims™ Pet Stories\Collections

For The Sims Castaway Stories:
Do not install any collection files, they are not used in this game.

I've been dabbling in the Sims 2 again since EA made the Sims 2 Ultimate Collection available. I'd like to get these back into my game, but the paths are a little different with U.C. than they were for the original installations. I know how to get to my Bin files, but into which one should I put the patch? And, since I have all the expasions/stuff packs, do I need to download the first patch AND the Pets and up patch?

I have all objects available in the expected places except the surveillance. The catalog is the only place the reward shows and it has a custom star, and I cannot pick it from the catalog or place it.

I do remember something odd about the Surveillance reward but I will have check into it and get back to you, leefish. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

If there is a basegame equivalent Bins folder included in the Ultimate Collection then these patches should go there. Otherwise put it in the M&G Bins folder. You should use the contents of SDpatchSims2_Rewards.zip and none other.

If you also wish to use a Collection file then the contents of SDcollectionPetsAndLater_Rewards.zip is the one to use with the Ultimate Collection.

Hi leefish - I configured your exact game configuration in AnyGame then downloaded and installed the contents of SDpatchSims2_Rewards.zip in the Basegame BINS folder. I was able to access and use the Surveillance reward from both Electronics/Misc and Hobby/Misc with no problem. The reward did not display a star, as designed (because it is in BINS).

Because your Surveillance reward shows a star but the rest of the Rewards objects do not, I suspect that there may be another patch (or object with a conflicting GUID) that is creating the star.

Hi, thank you for the quick reply. I had a look in my mods and indeed I was using this mod by cyjon. Once I removed his fix all worked as expected.

Thank you.

I think the base game equivalent for the UC is the double deluxe/base folder. Seems to be working there.

I have a question regarding this mod. If I use it to build a house that has one of these "unlocked" items and upload it to MTS, and my house gets uploaded by someone that doesn't have this mod installed, will the item(s) still show up on their game or will they need to install the mod as well?

Lot downloaders do not need this set for the item to appear in their lots. Provided they don't delete the item they do no need this set.

When you say deletion could possibly cause corruption, are you referring to deleting the objects from catalog with in-game delete button, or removing the file of this mod? I'd like to use it, but only temporarily. I don't see how removing the mod could cause corruption, but since you specifically say corruption I'm wondering if I missed something.

If you have questions on how to use SimPE or WW, you're welcome to PM me.

Any default replacement or patch file that is placed in BINS should only be deleted when the game is not running, using Windows Explorer or an equivalent. There should be no problem with deleting these files, provided this procedure is followed.

These downloads should not be deleted from the catalogue when the game is running because potentially that deletion could damage the EA game files.

Just so I know for sure, you're saying that as long as no component of the game is currently running, I can go into the files and delete the mod file itself and be fine?
