THE RESULT OF MORE THAN A YEAR OF TINKERING AND EXPERIMENTING.

It's been about a year since I first tried my hand at using postprocessing to make my game more beautiful, and this shader has pretty much been in the works since then. As such, it's an evolved and seriously improved version of My first ReShade preset, and I strongly believe it has now been improved to virtual perfection.

This graphics mod is intended to make your game look more natural, more awesome, and more real. Days are brighter and more inspiring, nights are darker and more mysterious. Your entire game will be more vibrant and alive, and you'll no longer need Photoshop to make your screenshots look good.

Features include: Bokeh depth-of-field, ambient occlusion, chromatic abberation, anti-aliasing, HDR and adaptive sharpening.
This shader comes in three flavours: MEDIUM for mid-range PCs, HIGH for high-end PCs with powerful graphics cards, and ULTRA with the highest possible settings, for photographers. (ULTRA is not intended for regular gameplay.)
The shader is fully standalone, meaning the ReShade tool is not required for it to work.

It looks like an 80s movie!

I seriously love the way it looks.

About ReShade:

Quote:
ReShade is an advanced, fully generic post-processing injector for games and video software. Imagine your favorite game with ambient occlusion, real depth of field effects, color correction and more...ReShade exposes an automated and generic way to access both frame color and depth information and all the tools to make it happen.

If you want, you can download the ReShade tool at reshade.me. ReShade is easy to use and only needs to be run once to setup a game.
If you want to get started with ReShade yourself, follow @alverdine's excellent tutorial, right here on ModTheSims.

How to install:

Standalone:
1. Unzip the version of your choice in your main The Sims 3 install folder (typically C:/Program Files (x86)/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Game/Bin)
2. Done!

Additionally, some rough estimates of the lowest, highest and average framerates experienced in regular gameplay with a Nvidia GTX 1070:
Medium version: 25, 80, 45
High version: 15, 40, 25
Ultra version (not intended for regular gameplay): 2, 8, 5

Suitable graphics cards:

Listed below are a number of graphics cards that are definitely powerful enough to handle TS3 at high settings with ExtraReal.

- Nvidia GeForce GTX 960
- Nvidia GeForce GTX 970
- Nvidia GeForce GTX 980
- Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050
- Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060
- Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070
- Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080
- AMD Radeon RX 480
- AMD Radeon RX 470
- AMD Radeon R9 Fury
- AMD Radeon R9 390
- AMD Radeon R9 290

Hotkeys:

F7: ambient glow
F8: ambient occlusion / depth of field
F9: ambient bloom
F12: depth overlay
Scroll Lock: motion blur, depth haze, FXAA, lens flare, chromatic abberation, grain etc.

TS3_ExtraReal_Medium.zip | Description: FIXED VERSION 21.48 MB 3,533 19th Sep 2017
TS3_ExtraReal_Ultra.zip | Description: FIXED VERSION 21.48 MB 2,587 19th Sep 2017
Quick Guide:

1. Click the file listed on the Files tab to download the file to your computer.
2. Extract the zip, rar, or 7z file. Now you will have either a .package or a .sims3pack file.

For Package files:

1. Cut and paste the file into your Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\Packages folder. If you do not already have this folder, you should read the full guide to Package files first: Sims 3:Installing Package Fileswiki, so you can make sure your game is fully patched and you have the correct Resource.cfg file.
2. Run the game, and find your content where the creator said it would be (build mode, buy mode, Create-a-Sim, etc.).

For Sims3Pack files:

1. Cut and paste it into your Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Downloads folder. If you do not have this folder yet, it is recommended that you open the game and then close it again so that this folder will be automatically created. Then you can place the .sims3pack into your Downloads folder.
2. Load the game's Launcher, and click on the Downloads tab. Find the item in the list and tick the box beside it. Then press the Install button below the list.
3. Wait for the installer to load, and it will install the content to the game. You will get a message letting you know when it's done.
4. Run the game, and find your content where the creator said it would be (build mode, buy mode, Create-a-Sim, etc.).

Extracting from RAR, ZIP, or 7z: You will need a special program for this. For Windows, we recommend 7-Zip and for Mac OSX, we recommend Keka. Both are free and safe to use.

Ran the fixed version and it works on a 650m. Here's the result for people wondering if they can run it on a lower end or older GPU: (I'm running the medium setting)

- First, I don't recommend running it with other lighting mods. It won't conflict, but it is an overlay which adds on. When I first ran it, I have Buhudain's lighting mod, everything was overly glowing bright. I ran it a 2nd time without mods and it was beautiful.

- On the 650m at 1080p with full graphics setting, you can get 8-10 FPS. Surprisingly, it IS playable. I know people think such low FPS is not playable, but it runs and is smooth, does not lag. It is just a little slow. It runs more or less like when I run the game on Intel HD, actually even a little faster despite Intel HD actually gives a higher FPS.

- The GPU load is full at 99% the whole time, the VRAM usage is about 800MB, was 500MB before. Surprisingly again, GPU temperature is unchanged.

- It is an overlay. So the "c" capture command won't work. You'll have to use Fraps or other programs to capture screenshots, or use the capture screen from your OS.

Thanks for sharing this!

Correct, it didn't work out so well. It ran, but was very sluggish. Also the lighting took over the UI also, is that supposed to happen? Either way, I took it out (I tried the medium version) as it was too slow. Nice for those who have newer cards, though!

Nothing happens. I used the hotkeys and nothing happens, even though I'm sure I put it in the right folder.

But are you 100.0% sure? The Sims 3/Game/Bin et cetera, and you've put the two files and the "postprocess" folder in there?

Yes, if you get the Medium version it should be fine.

Thank you soo much for this! It looks amazing.
But there is a big problem, though. Is it normal for it to affect the UI so much? My UI is quite blurry and it is a bit unsettling for the eyes for gameplay.
I've tried the high version and now I will try the medium to see how it goes.
Thank you again.

Pretty simple: your graphics chip sucks, it's grossly underpowered. I really recommend against doing any gaming on it. Sorry, but that's the truth.

Since you have two graphics cards, I'd say you should try the High version. I'm not sure, but I think it'll run.

Also, is there any wasy to optimize this better? My PC which can run TW3:WH at medium without breaking a sweat can't handle it!
Also, keep in note my PC can run FH3 at the penultimate highest graphic settings without stuttering or crashing once! Please optimize this! (if possible, of course, then I'll just say goodbye to my ol' buddy AMD ;-; )
