This seems to fix the problem of unplayable dormies forgetting they are dormies if you install an elevator. I've been testing this for a few days and it seems to have fixed the problem.

EDIT: Now included: the Pets version.

EDIT #2: Use the Pets version if you have Seasons and/or Pets.
