This is a Maxis Recolour which means that it is a recolour of an item that already exists in your game. Please check the Expansion pack requirements to see which game pack it recolours.
This is a new mesh, and means that it's a brand new self contained object that usually does not require a specific Expansion pack (although this is possible depending on the type). It may have Recolours hosted on MTS2 - check the sidebar.
This is a new mesh recolour, and means that you will need to download the particular mesh itself in order for this to show up in your game. See the Meshes Needed section or read the text for more information.
UPDATED ON AUG 29, 2009: I've tweaked the bone assignments on the meshes so the rank pips don't look garbled (in lack of a better word) when you look at the Sim from the side. If you've noticed this glitch and it bugs you, then please redownload!
--------------------------------------------
Well, I promised you rank pips for your Starfleet Sims, and here they are: accessory pips for all ranks from ensign to captain, plus one insignia for non-commissioned officers. They are for adults (and young adults if you have University) and elders, and will appear together with casual and formal clothes and - if you have Seasons - with outerwear (more on that below). They can also be worn together with other accessories.
Now, these pips are made to work with my turtleneck body meshes (which you find
here for adults and
here for elders), so if you use them together with other meshes, things might look a little strange; for example, on a mesh that doesn't have a collar, it will look like the pips are floating in front of the neck. Just so you know that this isn't an error; it's impossible to make pips that look good with any and all collars at all times, so of course I've been selfish and have made a set that looks good with
my stuff.

(If people request it, I might make pips that work with other collar types later on, but for now, this is what you get.)

Happy Simming!
ETA: The one and only HystericalParoxysm tells me there aren't any compatibility issues with Seasons, so I've removed the non-Seasons version; the current version (where the rank pips appear with outerwear as well) should work with the base game as well. There's no need to redownload anything, though - unless you've already downloaded the non-Seasons version and want the one where the pips appear with outerwear just in case you get Seasons later on, that is.
